• Cannot connect to Solaris Server when Oracle GoldenGate process uses the port

  I'm trying to test the Oracle goldengate to replicate data between two databases on the same server. So I installed two databases and two goldengate homes in the same machine. The goldengate processes are started from each home and they are responsible for the replication : Process from home 1 configured on port 7809 & process for home 2 configured on port 7810. For a successful replication, processes started from goldengate home 1 should communicate with processes started from goldengate home 2. But for some reasons, this is not happening. The goldengate log file has the following error : OGG-01223 Oracle GoldenGate Capture for Oracle, exthrr.prm: TCP/IP error 131 (Connection reset by peer). "Googling" for this error, it said that the connection occurred but the host terminated it. Tried to telnet the machine with the used port and it gave the following error: bash-3.00$ telnet 10.10.3.124 7810 Trying 10.10.3.124... Connected to 10.10.3.124. Escape character is '^]'. Connection to 10.10.3.124 closed by foreign host. Here the communication occurs but for only around 3 seconds then it is closed by the host, which is the same explanation of the above error in the goldengate log file. I tried to change the port but still the same error. The problem is happening only when the goldengate process is using the port. When other process is using the same port, I can telnet successfully.

• Oracle at HR Tech: What a Difference a Year Makes

  Last week, I had the privilege of attending the famous HR Technology Conference (HR Tech) in my new hometown of Chicago. This annual event, which draws the who of who in the world of HR technology, was by far the biggest.  It wasn't just the highest level of attendance that was mind blowing, but also the amazing quality of attendees. Kudos go to the organizers, especially Bill Kutik for pulling together such a phenomenal conference. Conference highlights included Naomi Bloom's (http://infullbloom.us) Masters Panel and Mark Hurd's General Session on the last day of the conference. Naomi managed to do the seemingly impossible -- get all of the industry heavyweights and fierce competitors to travel to Chicago for her panel. Here are the executives she hosted: Our own Steve Miranda Sanjay Poonen, President Global Solutions, SAP Stan Swete, CTO, Workday Mike Capone, VP for Product Development and CIO, ADP John Wookey, EVP, Social Applications, Salesforce.com Adam Rogers, CTO, Ultimate Software       I bet you think "WOW" when you look at these names. Just this panel by itself would have been enough of a draw for any tech conference, so Naomi and Bill really scored. TechTarget published a great review of the conference here.  And here are a few highlights from Steve. "Steve Miranda, EVP Apps Dev Oracle, said delivering software in the cloud helps vendors shape their products to customer needs more efficiently. "As vendors, we're able to improve the software faster," he said. "We can see in real time what customers are using and not using." Miranda underscored Oracle's commitment to socializing its HCM platform,and named recruiting as an area where social has had a significant impact. "We want to make social a part of the fabric, not a separate piece," he said. "Already, if you're doing recruiting without social, it probably doesn't make any sense."" Their business is changing and growing. They've dealt with acquisitions of their own and their competitors continue to nip at their heels. If Oracle feels as strongly about their products as they seem to be, they will be getting their co-president in front of a lot more groups of current and potential customers like they did at the HR Technology Conference this year. • Enable/Disable SSL JSSE in Weblogic Server 11g/12c

  Here is the flag to enable or to disable JSSE.-Dweblogic.ssl.JSSEEnabled=true|false Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true.  Starting WLS 12c, Even if the above option is set to false , it is ignored. The changes are neither persisted nor the Mbean value is also left unmodified.... Please also be aware of the below changes in SSL implementation in 12c version 1. Certicom has been removed from WebLogic Server 12.1.1 and is no longer supported. 2. JSSE is the only SSL implementation that is supported in WebLogic Server 12.1.1. The following configuration changes have been made to be consistent with this support: The default for JSSEEnabled has been changed to true. Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true. If JSSEEnabled is set to false, it will be ignored. That is, the MBean value will not be changed either in memory or the persisted config.xml file. • It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over

  Oracle OpenWorld 2012 is behind us. Well, for San Francisco, anyhow. The team is already working on the Latin America event which takes place in December in Sao Paulo, and an OpenWorld in Asia for 2013 as well. And of course they're already working on the next San Francisco OpenWorld for 2013. So what happens after the conference is over? People pack up demo and network gear and ship it out to wherever it's going next; take down and recycle signage; strike the keynote set, the exhibition and demo halls, the street tents, and anything else that was constructed just for the conference. There's a lot of post-conference analyis going on too. Oracle and partner marketing teams are looking at and following up on the leads they got from booth, demo, and lounge traffic. The events team is evaluating the session and conference surveys you filled out if you attended -- looking to identify the best speakers, what worked and didn't work, how you liked the venues, the food, the entertainment, the presentations. From all of that information will come recommendations for next year on what to keep doing, what to do better, and what not to do at all. The goal for each year's conference is to be better than last year's. • oracle access on vmware fusion

  Hello, I'm running snow leopard and I'm doing some development that requires some network knowledge. I've installed vmware fusion 3.0 and I've set up a virtual machine with windows 2003 server. I need to mimic the exact configuration of another server in the network, so I really need to run the versions I'll be mentioning here. Besides, I set up two network configurations on the VM: one NAT config (so that I can have internet access) and one host-only config (because I need to use another server's mac adress and my local area network might have a problem with it) From the installation of windows 2003, I then installed oracle 10.2.0.1. During the installation I received a warning about the primary ip-address of the system being dhcp assigned, but I ignored it (maybe it was a mistake)... Now, from experience, unless the DHCP assigned address changes, I should be able to access the guest system's database from the host system, so I went to safari and tried to access the oracle em. As it turns out, because my computer is on a company network, the company's DNS doesn't know about the virtual machine, unless of course I switch to a bridged network config. However, I don't want to do that because I don't to mix up the domains. So I guess the question is, how can I define my own dns or router, or whatever it is that I need to define so that whenever I try the guest system's ip address form the host, it will use the vmnet1 or vmnet8 interface define by vmware and bypass the dns configuration of my local area network. I'd also like to know what to do incase I want to change ip addresses on the guest machine without having oracle go haywire (I've noticed a few folders on the structure which are specific for the very first IP Address)... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Migrating JSF 1.2 to 2.x resulted in java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sun.faces.config.InitFacesContext.cleanupInitMaps

My application is using the following APIs: maven-jetty-plugin (version 6.1.10) maven-compiler-plugin (version 2.3.1) myfaces-api & -impl (version 1.2.7) jsf-facelets (version 1.1.14) richfaces (version 3.3.3) javax servlet jstl (version 1.2) javax servlet-api (version 2.5) and some other plugins as well. • Using Oracle Data in the Business Rules Engine

  Yesterday I started working on some new functionality that I had planned to implement using the Business Rules Engine.  As I got further into it, I realized that some of my rules were going to need to reference some data that resides in an Oracle database.  I knew the Business Rules Composer supports using DataConnections and TypedDataTables, but I’d never used this functionality myself, so I wasn’t so sure how it would work with Oracle.  As it turns out, it’s very do-able, there’s just little hoop you need to jump through. I fired up BRC and my suspicions were quickly confirmed.  BRC only recognizes SQL Server databases when it comes to editing rules.  Not letting that deter me, I decided to see if I could “trick” BRE into using Oracle data. On my local SQL server, I created a new database and in that database, created a table that matched the schema of the table I wanted to use in the Oracle database.  I then set about creating my rules, referencing the new SQL Server database everywhere I wanted to use Oracle data.  Finally, I created a new class library and added a class that implements Microsoft.RuleEngine.IFactRetriever.  In that class, I added the necessary code to get a DataSet from the Oracle server, wrap it in a TypedDataTable and assert it into the rule engine.  It’s worth pointing out that in my IFactRetriever class, I made sure to set my DataSet name to the name of the database I’d referenced in the BRC and the DataTable’s name to the name of the table that I’d referenced in the BRC. After gac’ing the new class library and deploying my policy, I tested and everything worked as expected.

• How to stop an IOException error using whilst using a combination of jython, pyro and ant?

  So the wonderful low down on this doozie of a problem: short version: We are building a distribution system for this item of software we're using. Basically we take out build artifact, store it on an ftp server which passes it to multiple clients which execute scripts to patch their servers. Long version: 1 distribution server multiple client servers software: jython 2.5.1, ant 1.8.0, pyro 3.10 The distribution server has an FTP server and a PYRO client running on it. Each client server has a PRYO server running on it. When the PYRO client is told to start the patch procedure then it reads a machine list which contains a list of all the client servers. Then connects to each of the PYRO servers one by one and execute the patch procedure. The procedure is: getPatch (gets the latest patch for that server), StopServer (stops the software that may or maynot be accessing what needs to be patched), Apply patch, StartServer. Each of the processes calls an ANT script that passes with some folder names and other config passes around. The fun part happens when you go to apply the patch. See below for error log. I had to remove the folder names because of NDA reasons. This is where it gets interesting. Running each section of the procedure individually. i.e. running getPatch, StopServer, etc. one at a time manually. This bug doesn't happen. Physically goign to the machine and running the processes it doesn't happen. Only when we call all 4 of the processes one after the other. It occurs during the ApplyPatch phase when an ANT replace script is called on multiple files. We think it might have something to do with the JVM keeping hold of the file for a split second or 2. however this is meant to have been patched according to the bug notes on ant. so in short: • How to configure oracle instantclient for mono?

  Mono is really awesome. Some of our applications worked in linux out of the box even without recompiling the binary. However I am having tough time to configure oracle instantclient to use it with mono. I installed instantclient on a CentOS VM(by installing instantclient rpm) but however I did not find TNSNAMES.ORA anywhere. I searched for oracle and I found the following path contains the oracle libraries. • al32utf8 in oracle and SQL Server and DB2 pulling data

  I have a non-utf8 oracle database running on 11.1.0.7. We need to support greek characters. So we have two options: use nvarchar, nclob fields for those fields that need greek (it is not all fields). We have tested this and gotten it to work with java coding. convert Oracle to AL32UTF8 database. I am not asking how to do this. I got this from the Oracle Site/Oracle Support. I know what is involved, lossy data, etc, increasing the size of the database. My question is we have users to our system that connect to our database with database links but work on SQL Server and IBM DB2 databases. I do not have access to those databases and I do not have experience with them. If they are not in UTF-8 databases what happens when they pull UTF8 data? I would assume that English/Ascii characters are fine and the greek will end up as junk data. I also ran Oracle Character set scanner (oracle command line utility you use to get info about the affects of a character set conversion). It says that my database will crease in sizez by about 20%. Does this have an affect on users with 3rd party databases? These are customers of our data and there is a limit to how much access I can have to them to run tests. Any information you have would be welcome.

  I'm doing maintenance work on a Rails site that I inherited; it's driven by an Oracle database, and I've got access to both development and production installations of the site (each with its own Oracle DB). I'm running into an Oracle error when trying to insert data on the production site, but not the dev site: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (OCIError: ORA-00001: unique constraint (DATABASE_NAME.PK_REGISTRATION_OWNERSHIP) violated: INSERT INTO registration_ownerships (updated_at, company_ownership_id, created_by, updated_by, registration_id, created_at) VALUES ('2006-05-04 16:30:47', 3, NULL, NULL, 2920, '2006-05-04 16:30:47')): /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-oracle-adapter-1.0.0.9250/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/oracle_adapter.rb:221:in `execute' app/controllers/vendors_controller.rb:94:in `create' As far as I can tell (I'm using Navicat as an Oracle client), the DB schema for the dev site is identical to that of the live site. I'm not an Oracle expert; can anyone shed light on why I'd be getting the error in one installation and not the other? Incidentally, both dev and production registration_ownerships tables are populated with lots of data, including duplicate entries for country_ownership_id (driven by index PK_REGISTRATION_OWNERSHIP). Please let me know if you need more information to troubleshoot. I'm sorry I haven't given more already, but I just wasn't sure which details would be helpful.

  The Developer's Conference (TDC) kicked off Wednesday in São Paulo, Brazil. With over 3000 developers in attendance over five days, it is the premier multi-community developer conference in Brazil, organized by Globalcode. Yara Senger, one of the organizers said, "We like to say multi-community rather than multi-technology because it is interesting and benefical when various communities get together. They learn so much from each other!" TDC includes tracks on Java and several other technologies, including SOA, Python, Ruby, mobile and digital TV. In the mobile track, developers who create a Java ME app will get a Nokia S40 phone!New this year at TDC is the Java University track, sponsored by Oracle.  It is aimed at university students and professionals who are new to Java. The lectures are introductory level, with an educational focus and practical exercises. The Java track and other tracks, such as SOA, mobile and Digital TV, are getting lots of help from the expertise of Brazilian JUGS members. Thanks to GoJava, JavaBahia, JavaNoroeste and SouJava!Carlos Fernando, one of the coordinators on the Digital TV track, said "My goal is to teach developers the basics of digital TV, and show them the tools used to build interactive TV applications." Fernando explained the concept of "the second screen:" that many people watch TV and have second smart device (tablet or smartphone) with them, and this creates many opportunities for developers. For example, while watching TV, a viewer can get extra content (interviews, behind the scenes) on their tablet. More interestingly, while watching their favorite TV show a viewer likes an outfit one of the actors is wearing, their smartphone can tell them where they can buy it nearby, or they can order it online immediately. Fernando exclaimed, "The opportunities for developers are nearly infinite in the area of digital TV!" At the TDC opening keynote, Debora Palermo, Oracle University country manager for Brazil, reminded attendees that Java is present in many devices, from simple to complex, and knowledge of this platform can open many doors in the labor market. She explained Oracle's Workforce Development Program (WDP), managed by Oracle University, which allows educational institutions to deliver Oracle training. WDP allows for easy and low-cost access to Oracle training in local communities across the world. "Oracle University is committed to creating the next generation of Java developers, and WDP can make that happen," Palermo said. As of March 2012, Oracle University is partnering with Globalcode to offer WDP. Students can earn official Oracle Course Certifications, a great way to learn Java.Brazilian developers that cannot attend TDC can watch live streaming.

• What Gets Measured Gets Managed

  OK, so if I were to claim credit for inventing that expression, I guess I could share the mantle with Al Gore, creator of the Internet. But here's the point: How many of us acquire CRM systems without specifically benchmarking several key performance indicators across sales, marketing and service BEFORE and AFTER deployment of said system? Yes, this may sound obvious and it might provoke the, "Well of course, Diamond!" response, but is YOUR company doing this? Can you define in quantitative terms the delta across multiple parameters? I just trolled the Web site of one of my favorite sales consultancy firms, The Alexander Group. Right on their home page is a brief appeal citing the importance of benchmarking. The corresponding landing page states, "The fact that hundreds of sales executives now track how their sales forces spend time means they attach great value to understanding how much time sellers actually devote to selling." The opportunity is to extend this conversation to benchmarking the success that companies derive from the investment they make in CRM systems, i.e., to the automation side of the equation. To a certain extent, the 'game' is analogous to achieving optimal physical fitness. One may never quite get there, but beyond the 95% threshold of "excellence," she/he may be entering the realm of splitting infinitives. But at the very start, and to quote verbiage from the aforementioned Alexander Group Web page, what gets measured gets managed. And getting to that 95% level along several key indicators would be a high quality problem indeed, don't you think? Yes, this could be a "That's so 90's" conversation, but is it really?
