  • Special folders & functionality in Windows [closed]

    I am using the new Virtual PC Beta on Windows 7 and I saw: The virtual machines have a special directory, but once you are in it, the VMs are shown. How can I do the same thing, with custom headings ("Machine status", "Memory", etc.) and custom toolbar buttons ("Create virtual machine")? I can't seem to find any documentation for this.

  • Norton Ghost EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available.

    After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem.   • IIS FTP - Users Last Logon

    How would you determine the last FTP logon time/date for a bunch of local user accounts on a DMZ (standalone/workgroup) server running IIS FTP? I know I could use a log aggregator and sift through it that way, but this server has been operational for approximately 8 years and I don't fancy that vector. I have also tried the scripting route, but this is of no use because the users have never actually logged onto the machine, so there's no profile (rendering the WMI classes *WIN32_UserAccount* and *WIN32_UserProfile* useless). They're just used to access the FTP service. Thanks in advance

  • NTFS Error - file system structure is corrupt and unusable

    My Windows 7 (64) keeps completely locking up, and I have to hold the power button to shit it down. Event logs are showing EventID 55. I realize that this can be a warning sign of an impending disk failure, but my data on this machine is safely backed up and I don't feel like taking the time to replace the drive right now. When I have seen this problem before, I have been able to delete the offending folder with a Linux Live CD. (When CHKDSK /F didn't work). In this case, the folder is from VSS. I assume this is from Crashplan, my online backup provider. What are the ramifications of deleting this folder from Linux? Is it safe to do? "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy26."

  • How to troubleshoot Application Popup issues 0XC0000142 and 0XC000009a

    I am running randomly into 1 of these popups when our application runs. The machines range from 8GB/8Core to 24GB/24Core and run Windows Server 2008 R2. The application is a bunch of perl scripts and exe's that are expected to utilitize the server well. The process tree can be quite deep (5-6 child levels) and quite broad (60-70 level 1 processes). We hit this issues every 1% run on random machines. The application stalls on popup, unless someone clicks the damn button. The event log reads as cmd.exe - "Failed to initialize app. Click OK to close app" How could I reliably repro these issues?

    Im trying to bind a list with datetime objects to my repeater. if (e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem || e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item) { DateTime actualDate = e.Item.DataItem as DateTime; } When I want access the itemdatabound event on the repeater Then I get an errormessage which says that DateTime is a valuetype and not a reference type. My solution is that a wrap the datetime in a custom object (reference type) and pass that to the repeater datasource instead of the datetime. But Im wondering if there are other solutions where the repeater takes valuetypes (DateTime objects)........

  • Programming an Event listener for files in a directory on Linux

    On Ubuntu linux, when you watch a flash video, it gets saved temporarily in the /tmp as flv files while the video buffers. I use vlc to directly play these files. Currently, I have scripted a shortcut that directly scans and opens the latest file in /tmp with vlc, when clicked. But, I want to program a Java application that will continually monitor this /tmp directory for any new flv files, and open it in vlc automatically. I know I can use Runtime.exec() to open the VLC application with the flv files. But, I DO NOT want to run a while(true) loop (with sleep) to scan for files. How can I make use of Event Handling (Java or any other language) on Linux to complete this task?

  • Help with Event-Based Components

    I have started to look at Event-Based Components (EBCs), a programming method currently being explored by Ralf Wesphal in Germany, in particular. This is a really interesting and promising way to architect a software solution, and gets close to the age-old idea of being able to stick software components together like Lego :) A good starting point is the Channel 9 video here, and there is a fair bit of discussion in German at the Google Group on EBCs. I am however looking for more concrete examples - while the ideas look great, I am finding it hard to translate them into real code for anything more than a trivial project. Does anyone know of any good code examples (in C# preferably), or any more good sites where EBCs are discussed?

[Update] Even though I found the (or better: one) answer myself, there seems to be some room for variation ;) Is there a difference between keyCode and which - especially if I'm just looking for ENTER, which will never be a unicode key? On FF/Chrome it goes weel, and submit the form after file selection, but I can't do this on ie. Already tried with click/propertychange but nothing happens.     I am trying to create Facebook based login using Javascript. Once a person clicks a button he should get a div replaced by another div, if he is logged in to Facebook. However, if he is not logged in to Facebook he is asked his Facebook credentials and he logs in. However, we need the user to click the button once more for the div replacement to happen in this case. I want to know if there is a way in which I can catch the Facebook login event and change the div? Is polling a way or there is some other way out. I want to use only Javascript.

    Just moved from VB.NET to C#. In VB to connect and Event Handler to a Sub we use the Handles clause. From what it seems, this do not exist in C#. After creating a simple application with a button I realize that Window Forms Designer automatically created an EventHandler to my button1_Click function (after I double clicked it), in Form1.Designer.cs with this code: this.button1.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.button1_Click); But, in VB, the WinForms Designer create the Handles clause in my class, in the function header. So, C# create the default EventHandler in designer file, while VB creates in main class with control resides. Is this correct? Am I missing something here?

  • Programmatically change the icon of the executable

    I am developing an application called WeatherBar. Its main functionality is based on its interaction with the Windows 7 taskbar — it changes the icon depending on the weather conditions in a specific location. The icons I am using in the application are all stored in a compiled native resource file (.res) — I am using it instead of the embedded resource manifest for icons only. By default, I modify the Icon property of the main form to change the icons accordingly and it works fine, as long as the icon is not pinned to the taskbar. When it gets pinned, the icon in the taskbar automatically switches to the default one for the executable (with index 0 in the resource file). After doing a little bit of research, I figured that a way to change the icon would be changing the shortcut icon (as all pinned applications are actually shortcuts stored in the user folder). But it didn't work. I assume that I need to change the icon for the executable, and therefore use UpdateResource, but I am not entirely sure about this. My executable is not digitally signed, so it shouldn't be an issue modifying it. What would be the way to solve this issue?

    Hi, I use VS2008 C# + Windows Forms. I can't understand why comboBox does not behave the way it should. In Design mode, I added a comboBox to my form, and edit Items to add "A" and "B". Double-clicking brings me to SelectedIndexChanged event, which I edit to display the selected text with MessageBox. private void comboBoxImageSet_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(comboBoxImageSet.SelectedText); } When I run, and select "A" or "B" in the comboBox, the MessageBox appears, but nothing is written.
