  I shall start with an example. I want to restrict to POST requests only for http://path/to/logical/abc.xml and restrict to GET only for http://path/to/logical/def.xml. How do I put constraints like this as the paths are logical and location directive is not supported in .htaccess? The actual problem is to set different authentication type(basic, digest) on diff logical file.for eg. for abc.xml I want to authenticate for Basic type of authentication and def.xml with digest.

  I'm really curious right now. I'm a Python programmer, and this question just boggled me: You write an OS. How do you run it? It has to be run somehow, and that way is within another OS? How can an application run without being in an OS? How do you tell the computer to run, say, C, and execute these commands to the screen, if it doesn't have an OS to run in? Does it have to do with a UNIX kernel? If so, what is a unix kernel, or a kernel in general? I'm sure OSes are more complicated than that, but how does it work? It would be really brilliant to know this! Thanks.

• Difference between '\n' and '\r\n'

  Yes yes, I am aware that '\n' writes a newline in UNIX while for Windows there is the two character sequence: '\r\n'. All this is very nice in theory, but my question is why? Why the carriage return character is extra in Windows? If UNIX can do it in \n why does it take Windows two characters to do this? I am reading David Beazley's Python book and he says: For example, on Windows, writing the character '\n' actually outputs the two- character sequence '\r\n' (and when reading the file back, '\r\n' is translated back into a single '\n' character). Why the extra effort? I will be honest. I have known the difference for a long time but have never bothered to ask WHY. I hope that is answered today. Thanks for your time.

• Sms via a nokia phone over a serial port

  Hi, I'm trying to send a sms via a Nokia phone over serial which is easy enough via putty. The commands from the nokia documentation works fine. However, trying to send the same commands from a c# application fails miserably. I've run Sysinternals PortMon and can see the commands come through OK, the only difference I can see is in the way it connects but I am having trouble finding the commands that would iron out those differences.   Hi all, I am creating a simple listbox filter that takes the user input and returns the matching results in a listbox via javascript/jquery (roughly 5000+ items in listbox). Here is the code snippet: var Listbox1 = $('#Listbox1'); var commands = document.getElementById('DatabaseCommandsHidden'); //using js for speed $('#CommandsFilter').bind('keyup', function() { Listbox1.children().remove(); for (var i = 0; i < commands.options.length; i++) { if (commands.options[i].text.toLowerCase().match($(this).val().toLowerCase())) { Listbox1.append($('<option></option>').val(i).html(commands.options[i].text)); } } }); This works pretty well, but slows down somewhat when the 1st/2nd char's are being typed since there are so many items. I thought a solution I could use would be to add a delay to the textbox that prevents the 'keyup' event from being called until the user stops typing. The problem is, I'm not sure how to do that, or if its even a good idea or not. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.

• Secure Copy File from remote server via scp and os module in Python

  I'm pretty new to Python and programming. I'm trying to copy a file between two computers via a python script. However the code os.system("ssh " + hostname + " scp " + filepath + " " + user + "@" + localhost + ":" cwd) won't work. I think it needs a password, as descriped in How do I copy a file to a remote server in python using scp or ssh?. I didn't get any error logs, the file just won't show in my current working directory. However every other command with os.system("ssh " + hostname + "command") or os.popen("ssh " + hostname + "command") does work. - command = e.g. ls When I try ssh hostname scp file user@local:directory in the commandline it works without entering a password. I tried to combine os.popen commands with getpass and pxssh module to establish a ssh connection to the remote server and use it to send commands directly (I only tested it for an easy command): import pxssh import getpass ssh = pxssh.pxssh() ssh.force_password = True hostname = raw_input("Hostname: ") user = raw_input("Username: ") password = getpass.getpass("Password: ") ssh.login(hostname, user, password) test = os.popen("hostname") print test But I'm not able to put commands through to the remote server (print test shows, that hostname = local and not the remote server), however I'm sure, the conection is established. I thought it would be easier to establish a connection than always use "ssh " + hostname in the bash commands. I also tried some of the workarounds in How do I copy a file to a remote server in python using scp or ssh?, but I must admit due to lack of expirience I didn't get them to work. • How do you send an extended-ascii AT-command (CCh) from Android bluetooth to a serial device?

  This one really has me banging my head. I'm sending alphanumeric data from an Android app, through the BluetoothChatService, to a serial bluetooth adaptor connected to the serial input of a radio transceiver. Everything works fine except when I try to configure the radio on-the-fly with its AT-commands. The AT+++ (enter command mode) is received OK, but the problem comes with the extended-ascii characters in the next two commands: Changing the radio destination address (which is what I'm trying to do) requires CCh 10h (plus 3 hex radio address bytes), and exiting the command mode requires CCh ATO. I know the radio can be configured OK because I've done it on an earlier prototype with the serial commands from PIC basic, and it also can be configured by entering the commands directly from hyperterm. Both these methods somehow convert that pesky CCh into a form the radio understands. I've have tried just about everything an Android noob could possibly come up with to finagle the encoding such as: private void command_address() { byte[] addrArray = {(byte) 0xCC, 16, 36, 65, 21, 13}; CharSequence addrvalues = EncodingUtils.getString(addrArray, "UTF-8"); sendMessage((String) addrvalues); } but no matter what, I can't seem to get that high-order byte (CCh/204/-52) to behave as it should. All other (< 127) bytes, command or data, transmit with no problem. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. -Dave

  I installed nginx and phpmyadmin. • XP Client for NFS failure dialog on startup, but drive mapping works

  I'm mounting an NFS share to some windows machines using the tools that come in the Services for UNIX Administration toolkit. I've set up the User Name Mapping service to use local passwd and group files. I had to manually start the User Name Mapping service, and then created an 'advanced map' from the XP machine's user to a uid that exists in on my NFS server, like so: Windows User: Matt Bennett UNIX Domain: PCNFS UNIX User: mattbennett UID: 10250 Primary: * I can map a network drive without any issues, and it correctly identifies the UID and GID to use, but when I reboot I get this message: "An error occurred while connecting to the NFS server. Make sure that the Client for NFS service has started. If the problem persists make sure Client for NFS service can communicate with User Name Mapping or PCNFS server." After dismissing the dialog, the machine finishes booting and the network drive is there in My Computer with the title "Disconnected Network Drive", but I can open it I can see the network share without a problem, and then it drops the 'disconnected' from its title. It seems like the services are starting in the wrong order or something, so the first attempt to connect fails but subsequent ones work as expected. There don't seem to be any symptoms apart from the dialog box, but obviously something's not quite right. What have I done wrong? Thanks, Matt.

• Got a malware on my hosting provider which infect JavaScript files .. how do I find the entry point?

  This morning some sites which are hosted on the server as me started triggering malware alerts and started to redirect traffic to external sites. I've found out that a line of packed javascript was added to many js files across the server. What the script does is pretty simple, but what I would like to know is if this malware is well known and how it infect servers and propagate. For the curious here's the javascript line in question:   The documentation claims that I can add aliases in a file (like /etc/postfix/virtusertable) and then use the "virtual_maps" directive to point to it. This does not appear to be working, however. My mail is bouncing with: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table; If I mail the user from the server using the mail command, it works. mail myuser The message goes through postfix and inserts itself in the Cyrus inbox correctly. When I use fetchmail to get the user's messages off a pop3 server, postfix fails. • NIC are not advertising Correct Speeds

  I have an IBM x336 that is not advertising the proper LINK speeds. One interface is the other is not. I've tried to Force it to 1000/Full but then it just shows link down. I have confirmed the switch is set to auto negotiate like my switches. I have also changed out my Ethernet Cables. I'm at a loss where to look further. I have verified that it will connect at 1G on a different swtich. This also has happened on two different servers on the same switch. • Method to integrate Powershell scripts with non-Windows workflow?

  I love the smell of new machines in the morning. I'm automating a machine creation workflow that involves several separate systems across my infrastructure, some of which involve 15 year old perl scripts on Solaris hosts, PXE Booting Linux systems, and Powershell on Windows Server 2008. I can script each of the individual parts, and integrating the Linux and Unix automation is fairly straightforward, but I'm at a loss as to how to reliably tie together the Powershell scripts to the rest of the processes. I would prefer if the process began on a Linux host, since I imagine that it will end up as a web application living on an Apache server, but if it needs to begin on Windows, I am hesitantly okay with that. I would ideally like something along the lines of psexec for Linux to run against Windows, but the answer in that direction appears to by Cygwin, and as much as I appreciate all of the hard work that they put in, it has never felt right, if you know what I mean. It's great for a desktop and gives a lot of functionality, but I feel like Windows servers should be treated like Windows servers and not bastardized Unix machines (which, incidentally, is my argument against OSX servers, too, and they're actually Unix). Anyway, I don't want to go with Cygwin unless that's the last and only option. So I guess what I'm asking is if there is a way to execute jobs on Windows machines from Linux. Without Cygwin. I'm open to ideas and suggestions, including "Look idiot, everyone uses Cygwin, so suck it up and deal with it". Thanks in advance!

• How can I "filter" postfix-generated bounce messages?

  We are using postfix 2.7 and custom SMTPD (based on qpsmtpd) in highly customized configuration for spam filtering. We have a new requirement to filter postfix-generated bounces through our custom qpsmtpd process (not so much for content filtering, but to process these bounces accordingly). Our current configuration looks (in part) like this: main.cf (only customizations shown): 2526 inet n - - - 0 cleanup pickup fifo n - - 60 1 pickup -o content_filter=smtp:127.0.0.2 Our smtpd injects messages to postfix on port 2526, by speaking directly to the cleanup daemon. And the custom pickup command instructs postfix to hand off all locally-generated mail (from cron, nagios, or other custom scripts) to our custom smtpd. The problem is that this configuration does not affect postfix generated bounce messages, since they do not go through the pickup daemon.
