  • Modify MySQL INSERT statement to omit the insertion of certain rows

    - by dave
    I'm trying to expand a little on a statement that I received help with last week. As you can see, I'm setting up a temporary table and inserting rows of student data from a recently administered test for a few dozen schools. When the rows are inserted, they are sorted by the score (totpct_stu, high to low) and the row_number is added, with 1 representing the highest score, etc. I've learned that there were some problems at school #9999 in SMITH's class (every student made a perfect score and they were the only students in the district to do so). So, I do not want to import SMITH's class. As you can see, I DELETED SMITH's class, but this messed up the row numbering for the remainder of student at the school (e.g., high score row_number is now 20, not 1). How can I modify the INSERT statement so as to not insert this class? Thanks! DROP TEMPORARY TABLE IF EXISTS avgpct ; CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE avgpct_1 ( sch_code VARCHAR(3), schabbrev VARCHAR(75), teachername VARCHAR(75), totpct_stu DECIMAL(5,1), row_number SMALLINT, dummy VARCHAR(75) ); -- ---------------------------------------- INSERT INTO avgpct SELECT sch_code , schabbrev , teachername , totpct_stu , @num := IF( @GROUP = schabbrev, @num + 1, 1 ) AS row_number , @GROUP := schabbrev AS dummy FROM sci_rpt WHERE grade = '05' AND totpct_stu >= 1 -- has a valid score ORDER BY sch_code, totpct_stu DESC ; -- --------------------------------------- -- select * from avgpct ; -- --------------------------------------- DELETE FROM avgpct_1 WHERE sch_code = '9999' AND teachername = 'SMITH' ;

  • Reorganizing MySQL table to multiple rows by timestamp.

    - by Ben Burleson
    OK MySQL Wizards: I have a table of position data from multiple probes defined as follows: +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | time | datetime | NO | | NULL | | | probe_id | char(3) | NO | | NULL | | | position | float | NO | | NULL | | +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ A simple select outputs something like this: +---------------------+----------+----------+ | time | probe_id | position | +---------------------+----------+----------+ | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00A | 0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00B | 0.0005 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00C | 0.002 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01A | 0 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01B | 0.001 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01C | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00A | 0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00B | 0.0005 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00C | 0.002 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 01A | 0 | | . | . | . | | . | . | . | | . | . | . | +---------------------+----------+----------+ However, I'd like to output something like this: +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ | time | 00A | 00B | 00C | 01A | 01B | 01C | +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:44 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:45 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:46 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:47 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ Ideally, the different probe position columns are dynamically generated based on data in the table. Is this possible, or am I pulling my hair out for nothing? I've tried GROUP BY time with GROUP_CONCAT that roughly gets the data out, but I can't separate that output into probe_id columns. mysql SELECT time, GROUP_CONCAT(probe_id), GROUP_CONCAT(position) FROM MG41 GROUP BY time LIMIT 10; +---------------------+-------------------------+------------------------------------+ | time | GROUP_CONCAT(probe_id) | GROUP_CONCAT(position) | +---------------------+-------------------------+------------------------------------+ | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00A,00B,00C,01A,01B,01C | 0.0045,0.0005,0.002,0,0.001,0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:44 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:45 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:46 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:47 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:48 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:49 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:50 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:51 | 01C,01B,01A,00C,00B,00A | 0.0025,0.001,0,0.002,0.0005,0.0045 | +---------------------+-------------------------+------------------------------------+

  • Grabbing rows from MySql where current date is in between start date and end date (Check if current date lies between start date and end date)

    - by Jordan Parker
I'm trying to select from the database to get the "campaigns" that dates fall into the month. So far i've been successful in grabbing rows that starts or ends inside the current month. What I need to do now is select rows that start in one month and ends a few months down the line ( EG: It's the 3rd month in the year, and there's a "campaign" that runs from the 1st month until the 5th. other example There is a "campaign" that runs from 2012 until 2013 ) I'm hoping there is some way to select via MySql all rows in which a capaign may run. If not should I grab all data in the database and only show the ones that run via the current month. I have already made a function that displays all the days inbetween each date inside an array, which is called "dateRange". I've also created another which shows how many days the campaign runs for called "runTime". Select all (Obviously) $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM campaign"); Select Starting This Month $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM campaign WHERE YEAR( START ) = YEAR( CURDATE( ) ) AND MONTH( START ) = MONTH( CURDATE( ) )"); Select Ending This Month $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM campaign WHERE YEAR( END ) = YEAR( CURDATE( ) ) AND MONTH( END ) = MONTH( CURDATE( ) ) LIMIT 0 , 30"); Code sample while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $dateArray = dateRange($row['start'], $row['end']); echo "<h3>" . $row['campname'] . "</h3> Start " . $row['start'] . "<br /> End " . $row['end']; echo runTime($row['start'], $row['end']); print_r($dateArray); } In regards to the dates, MySql database only holds start date and end date of the campaign.

  • Non-blocking MySQL updates with java?

    - by justkevin
For a multiplayer game I'm working on I'd like to record events to the mysql database without blocking the game update thread so that if the database is busy or a table is locked the game doesn't stop running while it waits for a write. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using c3p0 to manage the database connection pool. My best idea so far is to add query update strings to a synchronized list with an independent thread checking the list every 100ms and executing the queries it finds there.

  • How can I view live MySQL queries?

    - by barfoon
Hey all, I am just wondering if its possible to trace MySQL queries on my linux server as they happen? For example I'd love to set up some sort of listener, then request a web page and view all of the queries the engine executed, or just view all of the queries being run on a production server. Are there tools to do this? Thank you,

  • MySql Query lag time?

    - by Click Upvote
When there are multiple PHP scripts running in parallel, each making an UPDATE query to the same record in the same table repeatedly, is it possible for there to be a 'lag time' before the table is updated with each query? I have basically 5-6 instances of a PHP script running in parallel, having been launched via cron. Each script gets all the records in the items table, and then loops through them and processes them. However, to avoid processing the same item more than once, I store the id of the last item being processed in a seperate table. So this is how my code works: function getCurrentItem() { $sql = "SELECT currentItemId from settings"; $result = $this->db->query($sql); return $result->get('currentItemId'); } function setCurrentItem($id) { $sql = "UPDATE settings SET currentItemId='$id'"; $this->db->query($sql); } $currentItem = $this->getCurrentItem(); $sql = "SELECT * FROM items WHERE status='pending' AND id > $currentItem'"; $result = $this->db->query($sql); $items = $result->getAll(); foreach ($items as $i) { //Check if $i has been processed by a different instance of the script, and if so, //leave it untouched. if ($this->getCurrentItem() > $i->id) continue; $this->setCurrentItem($i->id); // Process the item here } But despite of all the precautions, most items are being processed more than once. Which makes me think that there is some lag time between the update queries being run by the PHP script, and when the database actually updates the record. Is it true? And if so, what other mechanism should I use to ensure that the PHP scripts always get only the latest currentItemId even when there are multiple scripts running in parrallel? Would using a text file instead of the db help?

  • PHP code to convert a MySQL query to CSV

    - by Reilly
What is the most efficient way to convert a MySQL query to CSV in PHP please? It would be best to avoid temp files as this reduces portability (dir paths and setting file-system permissions required). The CSV should also include one top line of field names. Cheers.
