    I am the only administrator on my Window's 7 Asus x53E series laptop. Why is a standard user able to access my files by just searching my name in the start menu? If I log into guest account and search my name it shows an error that i don't have permission. When i log into my roommate's standard account and go to the start menu I put my name in search and everything I have done or searched is open to them . How can i make my administrator account private

  • Disable File Copy between VMs

    When I access multiple virtual desktops via VMware View 4, I'm able to copy files between VMs. The VMs are located in different isolated networks. This is a security concern in my organization and how can I disable this feature? I'm not able to find any related configuration in View Connection Server. Thanks!

  • How would I prevent users from logging in a PC while software is installing?

    So I currently am looking for a solution to keeping users logged out while software is installing or activating a pop-up message that cannot be moved, closed, and is always on top, because sometimes when we deploy software to users (via SCCM), the parameters of the install require the user to be logged out for the duration of the installation. I've looked at trying to customize the group policy for account lockout but with no luck. Anyone know of any programs or scripts that do this? Thank you!

Since a colleague and me are working on the server almost all the time and another colleague also wants to connect there is always the need to disconnect one user which is bad. Is there a possibility to increase the number of allowed users? On another server there are more than 2 users allowed. What is different there?

There's actually quite a few of these requests over at least the few days - so it naturally piqued my interested. Searching Google simply seems to produce a very long list of websites which make their Apache access logs publicly available... Is this some weird indication that we're being targeted? And by who?

  • How to sort a ListView control by a column in Visual C#

    Microsoft provide an article of the same name (previously published as Q319401) and it shows a nice class 'ListViewColumnSorter ' for sorting a standard ListView when the user clicks the column header. This is very useful for String values, however for Numeric or DateTime data it gives odd results. E.g. 100 would come before 99 in an ascending sort as the string compare sees 1 < 9. So my challenge was to allow other types to be sorted. This turned out to be fairly simple as I just needed to create an inner class in ListViewColumnSorter which extends the .Net CaseInsensitiveComparer class, and then use this as the ObjectCompare member's type. Note: Ideally we would be able to use IComparer as the member's type, but the Compare method is not virtual in CaseInsensitiveComparer , so we have to create an exact type: public class ListViewColumnSorter : IComparer {     private CaseInsensitiveComparer ObjectCompare;     private MyComparer ObjectCompare;     ... rest of Microsofts class implementation... } Here is my private inner comparer class, note the 'new int Compare' as Compare is not virtual, and also note we pass the values to the base compare as the correct type (e.g. Decimal, DateTime) so they compare correctly: private class MyComparer : CaseInsensitiveComparer {     public new int Compare(object x, object y)     {         try         {             string s1 = x.ToString();             string s2 = y.ToString();               // check for a numeric column             decimal n1, n2 = 0;             if (Decimal.TryParse(s1, out n1) && Decimal.TryParse(s2, out n2))                 return base.Compare(n1, n2);             else             {                 // check for a date column                 DateTime d1, d2;                 if (DateTime.TryParse(s1, out d1) && DateTime.TryParse(s2, out d2))                     return base.Compare(d1, d2);             }         }         catch (ArgumentException) { }           // just use base string compare         return base.Compare(x, y);     } } You could extend this for other types, even custom classes as long as they support ICompare.     Instant help for windows dialog components is a great feature and very much known since windows 98. but I saw many many people are not aware it and query on Google to get help, but “help button” for dialogs helps you or your customers to get the help instantly. Every dialog window has help icon if that dialog was coded to enable it. it really helps to know the functionality of the components quickly. For example I was trying to pint a document from acrobat reader and opened printer properties to print the content front and back of the paper. If you observe there is a help button before close button. To get help on options of “Print on Both Sides” you would need to click on help button first and then click on the area on which you want to see the help. above picture shows help text for the options of “Print on Both Sides”. If you would like to get the help using keyboard you can use F1 key. Help button can be displayed only if minimize button and maximize button both are not shown unless you want go with custom buttons. below is the way if you want to get Help button for windows forms.   In this sample demo I want to have a checkbox and need to show help when I click on F1 on check box.   • Can not enable Windows SmartScreen. Says: "this setting is managed by your system administrator"

    I can not enable my Windows SmartScreen on Windows 8.1 My PC is not joined to any domain. I'm not talking about SmartScreen feature available in IE but the feature that is available in File Explorer. Control Panel Action Center Change Windows SmartScreen settings I searched in group policy but couldn't find anything that is preventing me from enabling it. Update 1: My user is a member of administrators group. Other things work fine. When I try to change something that needs administrative permission, UAC window appears, but nothing here.

  • Account Lockout with pam_tally2 in RHEL6

    I am using pam_tally2 to lockout accounts after 3 failed logins per policy, however, the connecting user does not receive the error indicating pam_tally2's action. (Via SSH.) I expect to see on the 4th attempt: Account locked due to 3 failed logins No combination of required or requisite or the order in the file seems to help. This is under Red Hat 6, and I am using /etc/pam.d/password-auth. The lockout does work as expected but the user does not receive the error described above. This causes a lot of confusion and frustration as they have no way of knowing why authentication fails when they are sure they are using the correct password. Implementation follows NSA's Guide to the Secure Conguration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. (pg.45) It's my understanding that that only thing changed in PAM is that /etc/pam.d/sshd now includes /etc/pam.d/password-auth instead of system-auth. If locking out accounts after a number of incorrect login attempts is required by your security policy, implement use of pam_tally2.so. To enforce password lockout, add the following to /etc/pam.d/system-auth. First, add to the top of the auth lines: auth required pam_tally2.so deny=5 onerr=fail unlock_time=900 Second, add to the top of the account lines: account required pam_tally2.so EDIT: I get the error message by resetting pam_tally2 during one of the login attempts. user@localhost's password: (bad password) Permission denied, please try again. user@localhost's password: (bad password) Permission denied, please try again.   • How do I enable the confluence-users group?

    I've got an issue with Atlassian Confluence. Normal users can't log in, but administrators can... Details below! I manage users using an Apple Open Directory (LDAP). I created two groups: "confluence-administrators" and "confluence-users". I've added team leaders and managers to both groups, and I've added some users to "confluence-users". Everyone in "confluence-administrators" can log in easily. People in "confluence-users" can't log in at all. When I look at the user list (in Confluence), and select a user to examine the list of groups he or she belongs to, I can see that the Confluence Administrators are indeed members of the "confluence-administrators" group, but not a single user is a member of the "confluence-users" group. Not event the Confluence Administrators, which are members of both groups! So I tried to have one of the "confluence-users" log in while watching the Confluence logs. Here's the result: 2012-07-05 14:50:19,698 ERROR [http-8090-11] [core.event.listener.AutoGroupAdderListener] handleEvent Could not auto add user to group: Group <confluence-users> is read-only and cannot be updated at com.atlassian.crowd.directory.DbCachingRemoteDirectory.addUserToGroup(DbCachingRemoteDirectory.java:461) ... So it says the group group is read-only... I'm not sure why it is a problem. Well confluence-administrators too is read-only and it doesn't complain. Some things I don't think are part of the problem: I've synchronized Confluence with LDAP many, many times. I have verified many times that I didn't make a typo while setting the groups on the LDAP server. LDAP synchronization goes well. No errors in the logs (only INFO level log messages). The user exists. Errors in the logs are different when a user doesn't exist. Any help is most welcome!

  • Windows 7 locked out account

    I have a Win7 x64 computer. There was only one account (mine, created at installation, password protected, full administrative access with UAC enabled). To speed up the startup + login process I went to control userpasswords2 and unchecked that users need to enter password. By this operation my account has been changed to Guest type and an Administrator account has been created. This Administrator account has a small overlay icon with a downwards pointing arrow. My original password did not work; if I try leaving the password blank it says something like "Your account has been disabled. Contact your administrator." Contacting myself surprisingly did not help. As my account (which I am still able to access) is Guest, I have no rights to do anything. Is there a way to get my access back without reinstalling?

  • Odd UI bug in Xcode 4.3.2

    I have this annoying UI bug when using xCode 4.3.2. Every time i press the space bar, the whole text scroll view jumps. Does anyone know why this happens, or how to stop it? edit: is happens, for example, when I'm writing comments in the code and the sentence contains a space. IT can be anywhere on the document, even in the center, doesnt have to be at the bottom of the page. After it "jumps" it goes back to where it was.

  • git init --bare permission denied on 16gb USB stick

    I am using GIT on a Windows 7 machine (64 bit) and have been learning how to use GIT to version control my files. Now I want to be able to create a --bare repository on an external device (in this case a 16gb USB stick) but unfortunately when I try to create a --bare repository on it I get the following error: f:/: Permission denied I am using the GIT Bash program which is installed with GIT on Windows machines, so these are the commands I am typing in (I am also opening the program as administrator by holding ctrl + shift when I open it) cd /f git init --bare f:/: Permission denied However if I create a normal repository it works just fine: cd /f git init Initialized empty repository in f:/.git/ Can anybody shed some light on why I can't create a --bare repository? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Google Chrome doesn't respond user actions correctly

    Recently I've changed my OS to Ubuntu 12.04 (Cinnamon, 64 bits) from Mint 13 (KDE, 64 bits) and one same bug still appears on new installation. The Google Chrome it seems that don't refresh (repaint) page based on my interactions. Example: When i'm try comment an Youtube vídeo, when i click on textarea, o cursor don't appear inside of textarea, BUT, when/if i change to another tab and return the cursor appears...OK... If i start write some text...according i'm typing the chars don't appers...again if i change to another tab and return the typed text appears on textarea. Other cases that this bug appears: Modal boxes link...don't show the modal; Forms inside modal boxes don't show typed chars; The common Discus comment plugin don't work when focused; I don't have any idea of reason of this bug. (video driver, window manager, Chrome bug ?, i don't know) Any idea to solve this ?   • Share an ATI Catalyst Profile across several/all users

    We've set up some hotkeys in the ATI Catalyst Control Panel on a communal machine, and we're trying to share this among a number of users, possibly all users. The profile is stored as MyProfile.xml in the Local Settings tree; the profile can be loaded through a shortcut, but unfortunately the Profilename switch simply expects the name of the profile rather than the path to the XML file. And while we can copy the profile to appropriate folders under other users accounts, the mere presence of the XML isn't enough to make the profile available to the user. A quick scan of the registry didn't reveal much, though I suspect there is something in there to be aware of. Any ideas on how we can share this profile?

  • Unknown user in terminal

    Im having a strange problem with the terminal in OS X. When I open the terminal the username at the command prompt is: unknown-04-0c-ce-e3-0d-c2: ~ I can't pinpoint when this first started or why unfortunately. I usually use iTerm for web development purposes but this also occurs in the normal OS X Terminal app. Any ideas/help would be really appreciated. Also this forum post helped http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=152407 The extract from the right post: Having run into the exact same issue myself, and having come across this thread while attempting to figure it out, I thought I'd post the answer. OS X is initially setting your hostname to what's set for your Computer Name in Sharing; however, if you're set up for DHCP and you match a current lease on your DHCP server (i.e., match the IP address of another recent user), OS X will then set your hostname to whatever the DHCP server currently has for that lease. This freaked me out incredibly at first, as I had just reformatted (having just purchased my first Mac and wanting to see how the installer worked) and knew I had not yet changed the Computer Name in Sharing -- yet my system hostname at the Terminal prompt was indeed changed to what I had previously set, pre-format. I grepped around, not finding the name anywhere save log entries; I thought either the format didn't actually properly wipe everything, or I was losing my mind. Finally I logged into my router (it's a Linksys WRT54GS running OpenWRT), and found the hostname in the current leases file. I then manually set my Mac's IP to something different, and volia! -- the hostname was back to what I expected. I hope this helps save someone from the same paranoia I went through.

  • Is there a Linux-compatible R/C simulator that works with real radios?

    My Dad flies radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft. He used to run a simulator called "RealFlight" which allowed him to connect his actual radio to his computer and fly simulated craft. He learned enough to fly actual planes, but he wants to move up from "trainer" aircraft to higher-performance craft. After some crashes, he'd like to go back to the simulator for a while. The catch: he's given up Windows and is now running Ubuntu. Question: is there an R/C flight simulator that Runs on Ubuntu? Allows you to connect your radio and use it to control the simulator, preferably through a USB port?
