    Hello, I am using Debian Linux 5.0 with Webmin and Virtualmin. Everything works fine except the BIND DNS Server. It says Failed to start BIND : Unknown error. Any ideas?   • Re-deploy only the reports on SCOM Management Packs

    I've migrated Reporting Services on a SCOM 2007 R2 install, and noticed that the reports have not being copied. I can create a new report, but the ones I've had because of the management packs are gone. I've tried re-applying the Management Packs however it doesn't re-deploy them and when I try to access for example: Monitoring - Microsoft Windows Print Server - Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 Print Services - State View - select any item and click Alerts on the right menu. I get the following error: Date: 12/24/2010 12:40:35 PM Application: System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Application Version: 6.1.7221.0 Severity: Error Message: Cannot initialize report. Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException: The item '/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Library/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Alert' cannot be found.   • What is the most suitable way to manage iSCSI storage for Virtual Environments?

    We are planning to place a HP MSA P2000 with two FC/iSCSI controllers in our network. We have two options to provide more storage to Virtual Machines (We are running Hyper-V): A) Add iSCSI targets to the Virtual Hosts and then create VHD that we would add to each guest server. B) Directly add iSCSI targets in each guest server. Just wondering if one of those options is better than the other, and which is the common practice in a virtualized environment.   • How do I use long names to refer to Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA)?

    Commonly domain user accounts are used as service accounts. With domain user accounts, the username can easily be as long as 64 characters as long as the User Principal Name (UPN) is used to refer to the account, eg [email protected]. If you still use the legacy pre-Windows 2000 names (SAM) you have to truncate it to ~20 characters, eg mydomain\truncname. When using the New-ADServiceAccount PowerShell cmdlet to create a new Group Managed Service Account (gMSA) and a name longer than 15 characters is specified, an error is returned. To specify a longer name, the SAM name must be specified separately, eg: New-ADServiceAccount -Name longname -SamAccountName truncname ... To configure a service to run as the new gMSA, I can use the legacy username format mydomain\truncname$ but using usernames with a maximum of 15 characters in 2013 is a smell. How do I refer to a gMSA using the UPN-style format instead? I tried the longname$@domainfqdn approach but that didn't work. It also seems that the gMSA object in AD doesn't have a userPrincipalName attribute value specified.

  • How to shuffle pieces of large video files?

    Hi Folks, For a party we want to show film-fragments using a projector. We have around 50 full-length movie avis and would like to shuffle them in shorter pieces. So every ca. 2-5 minutes another piece should begin. For example a sequence could be: Movie05-12m00s-14m30s, Movie08-55m50s-57m00s, Movie02-02m42s-06m40s, etc. So, random movies, at random positions within the movie of random lengths. What would be the kind of solution we're looking for? We were thinking 2 scenarios: Before doing this use some kind of tool to cut all avis in smaller pieces and put them on shuffle in a regular media player A sort of "VJ" program that can do this shuffle mixing realtime. Any suggestions for any of the above scenarios? Thanks!

  • I am unable to connect to my netbook from any machine on my network until the netbook has pinged it

    I have a rather strange issue with my netbook on my local network. When trying to connect to it in any way from a remote system it does not appear to find it. However if I get the netbook to ping the machine trying to connect it mystically appears to work. Below is the ping test from my main PC to the netbook.   • How to find process that's using 100% of CPU

    As i'm looking at htop and top i see that my processor usage is 100% allways. But i can not see any process that is using that much CPU. Htop shows me only 1-2 processes that use around 5% cpu time. Is there a way to find the processes that use that much cpu time? I have found many scripts and ideas to effect this but I require that it's not be a "drop-in" replacement, as in it must work globally for any possibly directory from one codebase.   • Apache + Bind Problems

    Hello, I am using VirtualMin on Debian-50-lenny-64-LAMP (Debian Linux 5.0). I've upgraded some packages including "bind". Since the upgrade, both Apache and Bind stopped working. Here's the errors I get: Blockquote Starting web server: apache2apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 78.46.92.11 for ServerName (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs failed! and Failed to start BIND : Unknown error I am sure that some files were changed after the upgrade and this is a simple problems to solve, but unfortunately, it's the first time I am in this situation and I just couldn't find a solution. I've Googled about the errors but still couldn't make it work. Now I am sorry I did the update. I usually make updates to have the latest versions of the packages that are installed in the server. Any ideas?

  • On Windows 7, how can I make the Start Menu search feature include matches from within words, not just the start of the word?

    I have a program installed called WinSCP. When I press the Windows key and type "SCP", I get "No items match your search." Is there a configuration option I can set somewhere, so that this item will be found? I'm not looking for a specific solution for this particular program, but something general, so that if there's a program named XYZ, I can find it via the Start Menu search by entering YZ. EDIT TO ADD: I'm looking for a "set-it and forget-it" type of configuration change, so that within-word searching happens always, automatically. I don't want to have to type a * before every query. Apparently this wasn't clear from what I wrote above.

  • How do I batch-downsize images on linux, while keeping small images small?

    I have a whole lot of photos and it's time to clean up the mess and free some disk space. I know mogrify is great to batch-resize things down. The problem is, in some directories I have small images mixed with the big ones. I'd like to batch-downsize all the big one but not upsize the small ones. As an example, I have a rep with tens of MBs-pictures in the 3000x2000s. Some of them I have already downsized so I could email them. They may be 1024x768. I'd like to downsize the big ones to 1600x1200, a disk-space-to-quality tradeoff I like. But then, with mogrify or convert, the small ones will be upsized, which would be a waste of disk space. I found some tricky ways to use identify with cut and some scripting to filter the small pics out and mogrify the others, but man, there's got a way to tell mogrify not to upsize my pics... How ? Is there some other tool better suited ?

    I have a machine running a legacy J2EE app. The code is not Maven-ized and it works with pretty old Java and Postgres versions. I have converted it to a VM in ESXI and I'd like to try to upgrade it to a modern, binary-compatible version of RHEL (Centos or Scientific LInux) and see if things would still work. Where should I start? Am I being too optimistic with this one? It's more of an experiment and I'm not doing it on a production machine. But given the OS is pretty old I am looking for a way to do this eventually. Many thanks

  • Second monitor not detected

    Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

    The problem with our server is that we need to use the bug ridden and awful AT&T network client, which causes our server to bluescreen once per 24 hours. Does any one know how to (or has a good guide) quickly set up a workstation running Windows server 2008 R2 as a proxy server. So this spare workstation would run AT&T and would act as a bridge between our server and the server that can be connected to only via the AT&T VPN software. And this way our own production server would not crash so often (or not at all) and the workstation can happily crash whenever it wants to.

  • Retrieve malicious IP addresses from Apache logs and block them with iptables

    Im trying to keep away some attackers that try to exploit XSS vulnerabilities from my website, I have found that most of the malicious attempts start with a classic "alert(document.cookie);\" test. The site is not vulnerable to XSS but I want to block the offending IP addresses before they found a real vulnerability, also, to keep the logs clean. My first thought is to have a script constantly checking in the Apache logs all IP addresses that start with that probe and send those addresses to an iptables drop rule. With something like this: cat /var/log/httpd/-access_log | grep "alert(document.cookie);" | awk '{print $1}' | uniq Why would be an effective way to send the output of that command to iptables?   • In Open Calc, how do I copy a paste cells that contain references to other workbooks?

    I have an OpenOffice Calc sheet with cells containing formulas that refer to another file, e.g: 'file:///C:/path/to/other.xls'#$Sheet1.A1:B2. Note: When I copy the cells from one sheet to another in the same workbookt, it works as expected. When I copy this to a sheet in another workbook, the references are lost and all is left is ''#$Sheet1.A1:B2. I could copy/paste the cell's contents, but that would be fastidious, error-prone, and anyhow not a good solution. How do I keep the external references when copy-pasting from one workbook to another ?

  • Recreate/Regenerate vhost config in cpanel for one account

    So my boss as allways was messing with cpanel on our production server (we only have production servers, which is bad enough)... so now all of the accounts is pointing to the default apache page in /usr/local/apache/htdocs instead of /home/useracc/public_html. Is there a way how to tell cpanel/WHM to recreate the vhost configuration of the account from scratch? the account has a database and emails associated with them so before i do anything i don't want to mess anything up with cpanel.

  • Use old raid drive as boot device without data loss

    There were two disks in sw-raid. There were /dev/md1 as swap, /dev/md2 as boot and a /dev/md3 with ext4. The sw-raid was disabled by stopping and removing mdadm and then zeroing the superblock on each /dev/mdX partition with: sudo mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda1 sudo mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda2 sudo mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda3 In the disk that is the first boot device, I don't know if it's relevant, the system type of each partition was set back from fd to 82 or 83 with fdisk, /etc/fstab was updated, changing /dev/mdX to /dev/sdaX, and grub was reinstalled on the boot partition (/dev/sda2) with grub-instal. But the system wont boot. What else should I do to use this disk as the boot device without reinstall or data loss?   • WPF / C#: Transforming coordinates from an image control to the image source

    I'm trying to learn WPF, so here's a simple question, I hope: I have a window that contains an Image element bound to a separate data object with user-configurable Stretch property <Image Name="imageCtrl" Source="{Binding MyImage}" Stretch="{Binding ImageStretch}" /> When the user moves the mouse over the image, I would like to determine the coordinates of the mouse with respect to the original image (before stretching/cropping that occurs when it is displayed in the control), and then do something with those coordinates (update the image). I know I can add an event-handler to the MouseMove event over the Image control, but I'm not sure how best to transform the coordinates: void imageCtrl_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { Point locationInControl = e.GetPosition(imageCtrl); Point locationInImage = ??? updateImage(locationInImage); } Now I know I could compare the size of Source to the ActualSize of the control, and then switch on imageCtrl.Stretch to compute the scalars and offsets on X and Y, and do the transform myself. But WPF has all the information already, and this seems like functionality that might be built-in to the WPF libraries somewhere. So I'm wondering: is there a short and sweet solution? Or do I need to write this myself? EDIT I'm appending my current, not-so-short-and-sweet solution.     I was following the MVCMusic tutorial with an machine with full sql server 2008 r2 and full visual studio professional and when I got to the page where it sets up membership (near page 66) the Web administration tool wont work, i got the following error: An error was encountered.   • Error in PHP soap client to .NET soap Server

    PHP soap client in attempting to interact with a .NET soap server results in the following error: [soap:Receiver] Server was unable to process request. --- Invalid length for a Base-64 char array. $credentials = array( 'RequestorUID'=> 'xxxx', 'RequestorPassword'=> 'xxxx' ); $param = array('pmPropertyManagerID'=>'xxxx'); $client->GetPropertyStatus($credentials, $param); GetPropertyStatus take two arguments, a credentials object - which works correctly as other functions that only require credentials are executed correctly. The second argument is defineds as a string and I have attempted to input it directly as a string and base64_encoded string (error: Length of the data to decrypt is invalid), an array and an associative array both string and base64_encoded string and get the error above. Any help would be appreciated.
