  • My computer won't go into standby or hibernate

    Hi. I have a problem that I first noticed yesterday. Whenever I would press the half moon standby button on my keyboard, my computer would go to sleep. I also have a shortcut on my desktop configured to put my computer into hibernate. But now whenever I try to put my pc in sleep or hibernate mode, my monitor goes black for a few seconds but then comes back on at the login screen. I haven't installed or changed anything other than create a couple logical partitions in the hfs+ filesystem. (still in the process of trying to triple-boot) Any help would be great, but for now I'm going to bed. Will check back in the morning.

  • Convert file from VOC to MP3

    I would like to convert a sound file (from a digital voice recorder) with the extension .voc to an .mp3 file or some other common sound files. I am on Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried the program voc2wav but it gives me an error message saying that the program isn't 64 bit. The program has to be free and able to run without installing. (The voice recorder did come with a program that I could install, but I would like to avoid that).

  • Should the hostname of my VPS point to the dedi IP of my Domain or to to a shared one used for new account creation?

    I leased a VPS which I want to use to sell shared hosting. 3 IPs - I call them A, B and C here for simplicity. Actual setup is: A=NS1.mydomain.com; host.mydomain.com and is used to set-up new accounts in shared environment B=NS2.mydomain.com C=dedicated IP for mydomain.com (SSL secured) The more I read about DNS, the more I get confused; thus my question: Is this configuration "Good Practice", especially the hostname pointing to A rather than to C? And what would be a better alternative?

  • Remove the audio narration from a PowerPoint presentation

    I recorded audio for a PowerPoint presentation and now a colleague wants me to send the presentation to him. The file is currently 18 MB and I want to get it down to handy 1 or 2MB by stripping the audio. The only way I see is to remove the audio in the animation bar slide by slide. Stripping notes can be done by the "inspect document" feature. But for audio I see no such way. How can I remove the audio all at once?

  • Reverse proxy - how should it be done?

    I have a currently running server with Apache that is working great! However, I want to buy a VPS and use that as a proxy between the user and the "old" server. So the new server's only job is actually to just forward the traffic from the VPS to the old Apache server. How can I achieve this the best way? I've read something about nginx proxy, but don't know if that's what I should use? The IDEAL way (for me) would be to now even touch the running server. I just want to setup the VPS as proxy, forward the DNS to the proxy instead, and let the proxy take over the connection to the primary server. Is that possible? I would really like to hear your opinions about this, and how you would do this (would be happy if you could link me to some tutorial)! :) The VPS is running CentOS and the running/primary is running Debian. Thanks in advance.

  • Simple Mouse Move Event in F# with Winforms

    This evening I had the pleasure of reading one of ThomasP’s blog posts on first class events. It was an excellent read, and I thought I would make a brief derivative of his post to explore some of the basics. In Thomas’s post he has a form with an ellipse on it that when he clicks on the ellipse it pops up a message box with the button clicked… awesome. Something that got me on the post though was the code similar to the one below… // React to Mouse Move events on the form let evtMessages = frm.MouseMove |> Event.map (fun mi -> mi.Location.ToString()) |> Event.map (sprintf "Hey, you clicked on the ellipse.\nUsing: %s") |> Event.add (MessageBox.Show >> ignore) The MessageBox is a function with a string passed into it. What if I wanted to rather change a mutable value holder instead, how would the syntax go for that? Immediately the thought came to me of anonymous functions. I’ve used them before to do something like this… let HelloPerson personName = "Hello " + personName |> fun(x) -> Console.WriteLine(x) So using the same approach I adapted the event code to instead of showing a Message Box with a string passed in to it, to rather change the forms header. |> Event.map (sprintf "Your mouse position is %s") |> Event.add(fun(x) -> frm.Text <- x) Okay… it looks a bit weird with the –> x <- syntax, but makes sense and works… The next thing I wanted to do was change Thomas’s code sample from having an ellipse, and reacting to the position of the mouse and click, to rather trigger the event whenever the mouse moved. This simple involved removing some filtering code. Finally I wanted the code to work as a FSharp Project without having to run through the F# interactive. To achieve this I just needed to find out how to trigger the window event loop. This can be achieved with the code below… // Program eventloop while frm.Created do Application.DoEvents()   So lets look at the complete code sample… #light open System open System.Drawing open System.Windows.Forms // Create the main form let frm = new Form(ClientSize=Size(600,400)) // React to Mouse Move events on the form let evtMessages = frm.MouseMove |> Event.map (fun mi -> mi.Location.ToString()) |> Event.map (sprintf "Your mouse position is %s") |> Event.add(fun(x) -> frm.Text <- x) // Show the form frm.Show() // Program eventloop while frm.Created do Application.DoEvents()

  • Ensure your view and function meta data is upto date.

    You will see if you use views and functions that SQL Server holds the rowset metadata for this in system tables. This means that if you change the underlying tables, columns and data types your views and functions can be out of sync. This is especially the case with views and functions that use select * To get the metadata to be updated you need to use sp_refreshsqlmodule.     I am planning to upgrade my current 9.04 server version to 12.04LTS server. I've successfully backup and restore my Cacti version 8.7d to 8.7i that comes with the distribution. However, the plugin patch installation for PIA 3.1 it is not working for only ubuntu.
