• How to change screen resolution for installation

  I am trying to install Unity on an old computer with a 1.7 ghz cpu but the installation windows only show the top quarter of the window (so unable to see or select all the prompts in the window). I have tired going to system settings, but because I cannot see all of windows, I cannot change system settings to make the resolution smaller. Is there any way to change the resolution so that I can see the full window so that I can complete the installation?

  I just got a new laptop, HP dm4, and I'm having problems getting the audio to work properly on it. http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=7b697a35465a9f7236fb94deb9ff97fa65e55489 I tried to edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and added: option snd-hda-intel model=ref this caused the audio to work, but it's muffled.   I am trying to install VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit), but at about 2/3 of the progress bar, it freezes where it says: Installing VMWare Player 2.5.5 Configuring... Interestingly, it is so frozen, that even after I hit cancel, it is still stuck. CPU consumption is at 0% and the command with which I launched the installer is: sudo sh VMware-Workstation-6.5.5-328052.x86_64.bundle Anyone has seen this before? Now im trying to install it on my desktop and i am stuck. i tried the Windows installer, when restarted and selected linux, the pc went to black screen the shut down... tried with cd, i got the ubuntu purple screen, then shut down. its an intel i5 build with 8G ram and asus motherboard...(don't know if it makes any difference) any help?

  I so sick and tired of having my components pass the minimum requirements of a game and then I get 15 FPS on the game on everything low. Should't PC developers say 'use at least this video card for a smooth 30 FPS'? Here are my specs: Windows 7 2GB DDR2 RAM XFX Nvidia 9400gt Intel Pentium D Dual Core 2.8ghz I should be at LEAST getting 30 FPS on everything low right? Please tell me what I can do to make games run as they should, or is my video card not good for these games?   I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa 1538 laptops and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (Kernel 2.6.32). Main problem is that the fans of the notebook are always on even when the temperature is low. Another problem is that the display brightness can not be adjusted. Since some years I use Dell laptops and never experienced any ACPI problems so I thought that it is no longer needed to fix ACPI tables but now I have this crap of a laptop and I think I have to do it. Unfortunately I need some help repairing the DSDT.
