I have my battery at 95% and it's not charging while plugged in.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate.
Do you know if it might be a setting somewhere?
Here's a screenshot:
Hi my friend has a samsung NP530U3C and he has changed the bios to CSM only now it stuck on a loop and will not boot up, the options "F2 setup" "F4 recovery" are there but they do nothing.I have a bootable USB with win 8 that "installs" right up to restart then....back to the loop or in stall. Please can some one help its been driving me mad i just need to get tothe bios and change it back to EFI/CSM. Thanks.
On my home network we are allocated a dynamic IP. I want to configure ddclient (or an equivalent) to send IP updates to DNS-O-Matic/OpenDNS only when I am on my home network. I do not want to send IP updates when I'm on my office network. Can this be done? I am prepared to use different FLOSS software or a different free DNS service.
Additionally, there are multiple users who may be on the home network or away on other networks. How can we configure ddclient on each machine so that whoever is on the home network updates the IP (i.e. so we don't have to rely on a particular machine being on the network to update the IP). OpenDNS support have said we can't simply install updater software on each machine.
I've recently bought an HP Pavilion dv3-2150ep and I'm having a hard time getting the volume control display to work as expected. The control is a back-lit touch-sensitive bar above the keyboard. Now the buttons to turn the volume up and down actually do it, but the lightning is not changing at all. The mute button does change color when toggled.
I'm not sure if I'm missing any drivers here (I've installed all of those on the HP support page that seem to have something to do with sound and/or display) or if I have to activate this somewhere.
Any ideas?
I installed some updates, and now the computer doesn't boot up, it just keep's telling me to go to repair, which doesn't fix the problem.
I see the BSOD on startup, but it flashes by too quick. (I also don't have Vista on DVD to do a reinstall if I need to)
This is what I get from the Startup Repair details

Are tools which analyse which enable you to use all your CPU cores and also tools which help you to regain memory (can't think of any just yet but seen plenty) a gimmick? Do these tools really work?
Hello,
I have a site hosted on a Plesk VPS with 512MB memory and keep on getting kmemsize in "black zone" QoS errors. The soft limit of kmemsize is 12,288,832 and hard limit is 13,517,715.
The definition Virtuozzo gives is: Size of unswappable memory, allocated by the operating system kernel.
What's eating up the kmemsize? Is there any way to reconfigure and increase the kmemsize? The servers barely have any load or processing.
Thanks for the help...
Hi,
A friend has managed to set up their new Windows 7 Home Premium Dell Inspiron and forgot the password they have used. I have tried the following password reset software to no avail:
UBCD
OHPCrack
Offline NT Password & Registry Editor
*Trinity
Kon Boot
I have also tried to do a system restore but this asks for the password. The user does not have any data they need to save. Is there anyway I can get access to the restore partition using Linux to create a recovery disk or do I have to purchase a recovery disk from Dell?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I got a new screen for a Dell Inspiron 1545. The old screen says
Dell Inspiron 1545 LP156WH1 (TL)(C1?) HD
and the new one says
Dell Inspiron 1545 LP156WH1 (TL)(C1?) LCD
Does that make a difference? All I can get to work on the new screen is the backlight. The old screen had a crack. Now when I plug the old one in, it will not turn on at all. Could I have blown the inverter or messed up the cable?
Hi all. I have a toshiba satellite and its been behaving weirdly. It only works at the password prompt screen to logon but as soon as I am logged in, it just stops working. Left nor right button clicks are working. I am running vista home. Any pointers on how to go about this? Thanks.
I have 16GB ram in my machine. Before, free -m outputted the normal 16 GB ram, however now (after a reboot) it only detects 8 GB ram. Is one ram module damaged?
grep -i memory /var/log/dmesg outputs Memory: 15621184k/16017200k available (2535k kernel code, 387120k reserved, 1748k data, 196k init). (Which looks like 16 GB to me).
Free -m outputs: total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 7484 7415 68 0 6104 524
-/+ buffers/cache: 786 6697
Swap: 2055 0 2054
Anything I might be missing?
Thanks in advance.
I'm sure everyone has experienced it - if you leave a computer on too long, every once in a while, it needs a fresh reboot. I have a laptop, and I only hibernate it, but every week or two, I'm going to need to restart otherwise it will just slow down (usually when windows update makes me restart)
I was wondering though... why? What are some of the things that occur that eat up memory that can seemingly not be freed unless I reboot the OS.
In addition, are there any programs I can get that can free up this memory and keep the computer alive for longer? Preferably for windows 7.
I have an Acer Aspire One D250-1197. I really better type fast before it overheats again...
For some reason, I'm having a problem with heat on my netbook only when I run Joli OS (Ubuntu 9.10 LTS?). When I leave it idle, with nothing running (other than the regular Joli OS desktop and a couple of doing-nothing terminals), heat slowly builds up to the point where the netbook is burning hot to the touch. I have never had this problem when running Windows 7 Starter (even though it gives me plenty of other headaches). It seems that the fan is spinning, but not fast enough to keep up with the heat buildup.
Is there something wrong with the fan drivers? The computer doesn't seem to recognize that it is overheating. What can I do to solve this problem (other than shut it off or use Windows)? I'm currently on the wrong side of Earth (I mean, on vacation), so I just need a temporary fix, such as a driver I can install. Also, I have to use Linux, because I have to share out the wired connection in hotels wirelessly to the iPhones.
EDIT: I'm switching from Joli OS to a more "proper" and up to date distribution (Xubuntu 13.04). I'll see if it still has the heat problem and try @nod's cpufreq idea.
What does "Flashing the BIOS" mean? Are there benefits to flashing it? Is safe? Should it be done inside or outside of an OS, say my current Win7 installation? Thanks!
I have two headphones, neither has any amps or volume control, and both have the same problem with this computer. I normally have the volume on 10%, and that is optimal. I'm still very afraid that someday it will be at 100% and i'll accidentally have my headphones on.
I tested how loud it is at maximum volume -- it's earsplittingly loud! In fact, it's so loud that if I lay the headphones down on the table, I can listen to a song perfectly clearly from meters away.
Is there any way to make the volume control more safe for the ears?
I have a laptop with a set of external speakers hooked up to it on my computer desk. The speakers use the standard 3.5mm audio (headphones) jack. The speakers work fine, but I've recently added a separate monitor to my laptop via HDMI. With the monitor hooked up to my laptop and the speakers still hooked up to the laptop, sound will only come out of the built-in monitor speakers.
When I look at my audio settings, there are three different "audio playback devices" showing up, but only the built-in monitor speakers make noise when I click "test" (and I hear nothing when I set any of the other devices as the default.
Does anyone know how I can still use my external speakers when using a separate monitor with my laptop? I'm hoping there is a solution that doesn't require the laptop to be open or closed, because I use both scenarios.
I came across this post, but it doesn't look like they had much luck.
Hi, I'm running a CentOS 5.3 server with a basic LAMP stack. I've optimized LAMP and my code to run efficiently as possible, but Apache has a memory leak somewhere that kills my server every hour or so. What is the best way to write a script that will monitor the memory usage and if it peaks over, say, 450MB kill all the Apache processes and restart Apache. I know C++/PHP and basic Linux server administration but I'm not familiar with Perl or bash scripting. I'd be open to learn any solutions, though, as a temporary solution while I find the issue.
I am installing W7 Ent on an LG R580.
I am working with a valid ISO (installs perfect on other systems).
During the installation, before the installation window, the process hangs, and I get a black, cmd.exe screen with the following:
Select Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
with a prompt for: X:\windows\system32
My keyboard at that time only prints capital letters with '^' before each.
Only thing that I am able to do is reboot.
In the bios, I tried to disable USB Legacy ( thinking the problem is with my DVD ) - did not help.
I'm wondering where some information came from in a message I got on my Mac laptop. Here's the message:
From [email protected]
X-Original-To: john
Delivered-To: [email protected]
From: [email protected] (Cron Daemon)
To: [email protected]
...
Where did it get the "[email protected]" I know my username is john, and my computer is leutenberg, but where did it get the horners.org part? Thanks.
Some people say they are subpar, and others love them. What do you think? This is the computer I'm contemplating getting Gateway NV5387u. Quality Machine?
I'm running Derik's Boot and Nuke 2.2.6 (beta). When I get to a blue screen(Not BSOD) the following is printed.
Derik's Boot and Nuke 2.2.6 (beta) is
starting.
Waiting for USB devices to
register..........................done.
PCI (sys)
After that, it just sits there forever... Any advice, other than an older version of DBAN?
I have gotten this version of DBAN to work on an older machine before.
I wanted to update the bios, with an official bios update, from version 207 to 211. I didn't use winflash, I used easyflash in the bios. Everything seemed to be going okay; it deleted the old files, wrote the new ones, verified the new ones. Then it said: shutdown in/after 2 seconds and it shut down. Then nothing happened anymore. Power button completely unresponsive. The battery light was still on, and I'm not sure if I should've just waited... I didn't though, I thought I had to remove the battery, take the power off completely to be able to start it up again.
So I'm wondering: what are my options here? My warranty expired and I don't really have the money to send it in and pay hundreds of bucks on repairs.
Is there anything I can try? CMOS battery reset? Anything???
Please help me out! I would be very grateful :)
ps. What was sort of odd btw, was that easyflash said something like that it was an unsigned bios and if I wanted to flash it anymore, if i wanted to 'force' it or something. It was with 100% certainty the correct update from the Asus.com support site, so I didn't take that 'warning' seriously.
Router reconfigures PC's and they can no longer access the internet via hardwired connection to DSL Modem.
Hardware Information:
Buffalo Wireless Router/access point, Model: WZR-HP-G300NH-AP
DSL Modem: Generic (actually not sure of manufacture).
Service Provider: TOT (Thailand)
Laptop-1: Windows XP and Belkin PCMIA Network Card
Laptop-2: Windows XP unknown network card & Wifi
Laptop-3: Windows 7 unknown network card & Wifi
Outline of Problem/actions taken:
After a recent power failure the router and laptop-1 connected to router were no longer able to access the internet. Actions taken to try and recover internet access:
Using Laptop-1 tried to configure Router with PPPoe settings using software from Router Manufacture.
During the installation process a Timeout error was experienced, unable to connect to WAN.
Used Internet Explorer to communicate directly with Router using IP address.
Changed settings to use PPPoe settings given by ISP.
Router was not able to communicate with Internet.
Repeated steps 1-4 again with no success.
Reset Router and DSL modem.
Repeated steps 1-4 again still no success.
Tried connecting Laptop-1 directly to DSL to gain access to internet to research problem.
No Network connection with DSL could be established…connection would be established for a second and then be lost and didn’t appear long enough to actually connect to DSL.
Replugged LAN back into Router and connection was regained with laptop-1.
Replugged Laptop-1 directly into DSL and again unable to establish network connection.
Uninstalled network card and all of its drivers on Laptop-1.
Reinstalled network card and drivers and tried connecting directly to DSL.
Still unable to make network connection.
Plugged DSL into Laptop-3 and Internet connection was established.
Being Laptop-3 does not have a CD-Rom, Laptop-2 was tried to connect to the router.
With Laptop-2 steps 1-7 ended up being repeated without success.
Tried plugging Laptop-2 directly into DSL and again no network connection could be established.
Using Laptop-3 with a direct connection to DSL downloaded latest Router FW.
Installed router FW using Laptop-1.
Tired the installation process again without success.
Being desperate reinstalled OS on Laptop-1 still not success.
Tried using “ipconfig” with router to see what was going on without success.
With laptop-1 connected to DSL went through the “ipconfig /…” inputs to see if anything made a difference. Being the network card was not able to make a connection this provide very little information “media disconnected”.
So now I have a router and two laptops which are unable to connect to the internet and sure could use some advice/help.
I have Lenovo W500, 8GB RAM, 250GB Crucial SSD running Windows 7 x64 using boot-to-vhd.
Lately I started to experience some random freezes for 5-30 seconds. And when I say "freeze" I mean it; it's like a time machine - no input taken, nothing is written anywhere, no log, no disk activity. And then suddenly machine would wake up and continue as if nothing happened.
I do suspect that it's one of the drivers but I don't see any updates in the log lately except for .NET 4 framework and Adobe Reader. Out of new or updated software I can only recall Skype and IE9 but freezes started to occur definitely before IE install.
Regular software includes but not limited to: Office 2010, VMWare Workstation, IE9, Chrome, Skype, Seesmic/TweeterDeck, Live Writer.
How should I approach the "hunting season" to find our the culprit? Any tools or packages that could help me to identify the component, program, driver that causes the freeze?
Cheers
