  • Embed album art in OGG through command line in linux

    I want to convert my music from flac to ogg, and currently oggenc does that perfectly except for album art. Metaflac can output album art, however there seems to be no command line tool to embed album art into ogg. MP3Tag and EasyTag are able to do it, and there is a specification for it here which calls for the image to be base64 encoded. However so far I have been unsuccessful in being able to take an image file, converting it to base64 and embedding it into an ogg file. If I take a base64 encoded image from an ogg file that already has the image embedded, I can easily embed it into another image using vorbiscomment: vorbiscomment -l withimage.ogg > textfile vorbiscomment -c textfile noimage.ogg My problem is taking something like a jpeg and converting it to base64. Currently I have: base64 --wrap=0 ./image.jpg Which gives me the image file converted to base64, using vorbiscomment and following the tagging rules, I can embed that into an ogg file like so: echo "METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE=$(base64 --wrap=0 ./image.jpg)" > ./folder.txt vorbiscomment -c textfile noimage.ogg However this gives me an ogg whose image does not work properly. I noticed when comparing the base64 strings that all properly embedding pictures have a header line but all the base64 strings I generate are lacking this header. Notice 003 corresponds to front cover and image/jpeg is the mime type. So finally, my question is, how can I base64 encode a file and generate this header along with it for embedding into an ogg file?

    on Startup When my system starts up, the internet connection is dead. This causes various problems with startup items such as updates and auto-start programs failing. However, the connection is fine after going into Network and Sharing, Change adapter settings, then disabling and re-enabling the adapter. Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to fix it? System summary: Windows 7, 64 bit, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, Linksys WRT610N router, Sci Atlanta cable modem.

  • An alternative to Google Talk, AIM, MSN, et al [closed]

    I'm not entirely sure whether this part of stack exchange is the most adequate for my question, but it would seem to me that people sharing this kind of concern would converge either here, or possibly on a more unix-specific sub site. Either way, here goes. Background Feel free to skip to The Question, below. This should, however, help those interested understand where I'm coming from, and where I expect to get, messaging-wise. My online talking place-to-go has been IRC for the last fifteen years. I think it's a great protocol, and clients out there are very good. I still use, and will always continue to use IRC for most of my chat needs. But then, there is private instant messaging. While IRC can solve this with queries and DCC chats, the protocol just isn't meant to work too well on intermittent connections, such as a mobile device, where you can often walk around places with low signal. I used MSN for a while, but didn't like it. The concept was awesome, but I think Microsoft didn't get the implementation quite right. When they started adding all that eye candy, and my buddies started flooding me with custom icons and buzzing my screen to it's knees, I shut my account and told folks that missed me to just email or call me. Much whining happened, I got called many weird things for not using MSN, but folks eventually got over it. Next, Google Talk came along, and seemed to be a lot better than MSN ever was. The protocol was open, so I could use whatever client I felt a fancy for. With the advent of smart phones, I just got myself a gtalk client on the phone, and have had a really decent integrated mostly-universal IM solution. Over the last few months, all Google services have been feeling flaky. IMs will often arrive anywhere between twenty minutes and one hour after being sent, clients will randomly disconnect, client priorities seem to work sometimes, and sometimes just a random device of those connected will get an IM. I think the time has come to look for greener grass. The Question It's rather hard to put what I'm looking for into precise words. I guess I just want something that is kind of like MSN/Gtalk, but that doesn't let me down when I need it. IRC is pretty much perfect, but the protocol just isn't designed to work well on mobile devices. Really, at this point I'm considering sticking to IRC for desktop messaging, and SMS/email on the phone, but I hope that in this day and age there is something better out there.

    I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard, and it has dual Realtek RTL8111D gigabit LAN ports. I also have an Intel PRO/1000 MT PCI gigabit network card lying around from an old desktop. I've heard that Intel PCI-E network cards will often outperform Realtek, Marvell, or other non-Intel on-board network adapters, but my question is will the PRO/1000 MT PCI card outperform a single Realtek RTL8111D gigabit network adapter in terms of transfer speed, or should I keep what I have/buy a PCI-E Intel network adapter?

    What I want: A blog. I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this.     I have a high end Mac pro, but one thing in is that I'm unhappy with is a DVD drive. It's a Hitachi GH41N. Apple calls it a "superdrive", but it's anything but. The damn thing makes an amazing amount of noise, and isn't too fast either. What I want is a state of the art, fast, quiet DVD reader, preferably not even a burner. What should I get?

  • Our application is responding different on client server

    I have an application running on our local server and it works perfect. However when I deploy my application to our client's server there are problems. If i copy all the sources to another local from their server, it works fine again.... I am talking about an ASP.NET application talking with windows server 2008. The server specs of our client are: intel Xeon 2.13 GHz 6 GB RAM 300 GB HDD windows server 2008 R2 Although I think it's not that important I will describe the problems I am talking about to give u a better idea: It is related to upating and deleting fields in the sql server. Whenever there is more than one user running the application, and updates or deletes (not even the same record!0, there seems to be fields updating/deleting wrongly. But as I said before, if we copy the source to another server it is not the case. So I assumed it is more configuration related. Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be?   • PBS batch jobs - the qalter command

    I've got a giant computation running on a Scientific Linux cluster. At present I have over 600 jobs parked in the queue, waiting for processor time, while a few are running. I'm trying to use the qalter command on some of the idle but scheduled jobs. I'd like to schedule them for a later time, so that other users can jump part of the queue, sort of as an act of politeness. Is this doable? For example, JOBNAME 292399 is currently idle, scheduled to be run whenever a spot in the queue opens up. But if I run qalter -a 10051000 292398 followed by qrerun 292398 I get qrerun: Request invalid for state of job 292398.euler. From the qalter documentation, I thought 10051000 refers to tomorrow (oct 5th, 10am) but perhaps I'm misunderstanding something? If I'm going about this the wrong way, please let me know. The main thing I'm looking for is a command that's easily scriptable, so that I can modify when my queued tasks get run. qalter seems good for those purposes if I can get it working. I'd rather avoid running qdel and re qsubbing the computations, as there's a bookkeeping issue on which tasks to restart (vs which ones not to). I want to avoid that kind of bookkeeping. From googling around I notice some qalter commands have rather different date formats, but the above appears to be correct, as far as I can tell from the man docs. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X

    I've been looking for a solution to the unusable mouse problem in Mac OS X for ages. I've tried a gazillion programs and fiddled with every setting there is or there can be added. So far, I haven't found a way to get linear mouse response in Mac OS X. At this point I'm seriously considering installing another operating system. But before I do that, or go hacking around OS binaries, maybe someone here has a solution? I want linear mouse response. I want high sensitivity. I like my touchpad acceleration and would like to keep it if possible. Any ideas? P.S. I've been at this for a long time, I'll probably have already tried the most popular answers. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro. I don't use a particular brand of mouse. I'm not looking for any commercial solutions. I've tried: Mouse Acceleration Preferences Pane, the Snow Leopard version of which can get me close to a linear response, but at the cost of tracking speed (sensitivity).     So what I need to know is how find out who has been visiting what websites when through the router. It is similar to being able to History on browsers, but people can clear their history, or use Incognito mode. However, surely any data would be sent through the router so even if the person did clear their history or use incognito mode, you would be able to see what they had sent through the router, and what the internet had sent back. Is there any way to view all the connections that the router manages, and store all the data that it sends and receives and put them into, for example, a log file so I could view which computer had viewed what website at what time?

    I've gone through the following steps: Loaded up iTunes 10 on a Windows7 machine Went to iTunes store and subscribed to a podcast Selected sync podcasts Clicked sync However, it always hangs on step 1 of 3 - it just gives a status of 'Backing up' and never progresses past that.   • Port forwarding + shared connection with Ubuntu

    Because my wireless router's ethernet ports are defective, I set up a shared wireless connection from my laptop (which has wifi) to my eMac (which does not) via a crossover ethernet cable. The laptop is behind a router as 192.168.1.131, and the eMac is behind the laptop as 10.42.43.1 . The laptop is running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). I achieved the shared connection through NetworkManager Applet. I right-clicked on the network icon at the topright, went to Edit Connections, selected the Wired connection named "Auto eth0", clicked "Edit...", went to the "IPv4 Settings" tab, and selected the Method "Shared to other computers". The eMac can now access the Internet. Now I want to enable port forwarding. There's a game I want to play that needs port 6112 forwarded (both TCP and UDP) in order to host games. I set up the router to enable port forwarding for 192.168.1.131 (the laptop), but port forwarding still isn't available on the eMac. I suppose I need to pretend my laptop is a router and configure port forwarding on it, indicating that incoming connections to the laptop (192.168.1.131) should be forwarded to the eMac on the shared connection (10.42.43.1 ). Thus, packets coming into the router on port 6112 would be redirected to the laptop (by the router), then to the eMac (by the laptop). My question is, how would I do that on Ubuntu (in light of NetworkManager's presence)? Also, if I can't get this to work, does anyone mind hosting a comp stomp? :D

  • Bash: Reset and Clear Commands

    I have been using the command: reset to clear my terminal. Although I am pretty sure this is not what I should be doing. Reset, as the name suggests resets your entire terminal (changes lots of stuff). Here is what I want: I basically want to use the command clear. However if you clear and then scroll up you still get tonnes of stuff from before. In general this is not a problem however I am looking at gross logs that are long and I want to make sure that I am just viewing the most recent one. I know that I could use more or something like that but I prefer this approach.

  • Dell e4300 Random Beeps

    I’ve noticed that my Dell e4300 Laptop will randomly beep every now and then. The symptoms are virtually identical to the issue described here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19314488.aspx Any ideas why? I thought it might be related to hard drive activity so I downloaded the western digital disk utility and all tests check out fine. It’s not a big deal and it only beeps once every few days. I just want to make sure there isn’t a larger problem looming. =) -M
