• Looping over some selected values in a stored procedure

  I'm trying to modify a stored procedure hooked into an ORM tool. I want to add a few more rows based on a loop of some distinct values in a column. Here's the current SP: SELECT GRP = STAT_CD, CODE = REASN_CD FROM dbo.STATUS_TABLE WITH (NOLOCK) Order by STAT_CD, SRT_ORDR For each distinct STAT_CD, I'd also like to insert a REASN_CD of "--" here in the SP. However I'd like to do it before the order by so I can give them negative sort orders so they come in at the top of the list. I'm getting tripped up on how to implement this. Does anyone know how to do this for each unique STAT_CD?

• Using css "active tab" technique on single page

  I'm building a navigation system using jquery scrollto. I have my navigation menu in a separate file (( navigation.php )). It is included in 5 locations on the first page (( 5 different sections w/ text following each )). I'm trying to figure out a way to have the current "tab" highlight'd. I could hard code the navigation in each location to ensure it shows up the correct way, but I'd rather use the phpinclude() method. The other issue is that each "tab" has it's own unique color (( cmykd )). Here is the alpha version of what I'm doing (( when you click && the page slides, the "active tab" still stays grey -- I'd like it to be the corresponding color )). • Python Textwrap - forcing 'hard' breaks

  I am trying to use textwrap to format an import file that is quite particular in how it is formatted. Basically, it is as follows (line length shortened for simplicity): abcdef <- Ok line abcdef ghijk <- Note leading space to indicate wrapped line lm Now, I have got code to work as follows: wrapper = TextWrapper(width=80, subsequent_indent=' ', break_long_words=True, break_on_hyphens=False) for l in lines: wrapline=wrapper.wrap(l) This works nearly perfectly, however, the text wrapping code doesn't do a hard break at the 80 character mark, it tries to be smart and break on a space (at approx 20 chars in). I have got round this by replacing all spaces in the string list with a unique character (#), wrapping them and then removing the character, but surely there must be a cleaner way? N.B Any possible answers need to work on Python 2.4 - sorry!

  Dear experts, I would like to implement a API of Javascript that sort of resemble a light switch. For instance, there are two buttons on the actual HTML page act as the UI. Both of the buttons have event handlers that invokes a different function. Each function have codes that act like a state, for instance. button1.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //code effects 2 ) } button2.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //Code effects 2 ) } I the code works fine on the surface but the 2 state functions overlap. the effects is going to take place for the rest of the way until the next reload of the document. Basically what I want to achieve is that when 1 button is clicked, it will switch "OFF" the state of function invoked by the other button and vice versa. Thus, the effects achieved are unique are not overlapped. Is there anyway to achieve this or could any experts point me to the right direction. Thanks in advance.

• Making an asynchronous interface appear synchronous to mod_python users

  I have a Python-driven web interface powered by Apache 2.2 with mod_python and Python 2.4. I need to make an asynchronous process appear synchronous to users of this web interface. When users access one module on this website: An external SOAP interface will be contacted with a unique identifier and will respond with a number N The external interface will respond asynchronously by contacting a SOAP server on my machine between 1 and 10 times (the number N tells us how many responses we will receive) I need to somehow aggregate these responses and pass them to the original module which will display the information back to the user. The goal is to make the process appear synchronous to the user. What is the best way to handle this synchronization issue? Is this something Twisted would be well-suited for? I am not restricting myself to Python for the solution, though it is preferred because everything else on the server is in Python. I prefer a solution that is both scalable and will take a minimal amount of programming time (though I understand that these attributes are somewhat at odds).

• I've got to update a column in one SQL table with a counter stored in another table, and update that

  I'm using SQL server 2005 (for testing) & 2007 (for production). I have to add a unique record ID to all the records in my table, in an existing column, using a "last record ID" column from another table. So, I'm going to do some sort of UPDATE of my table, but I have to get the "last record ID" from the other table, increment it, update THAT table and then update my record. Can anyone give me an example of how to do this? Other users may be incrementing the counter also.

• How can data templates in generic.xaml get applied automatically?

  I have a custom control that has a ContentPresenter that will have an arbitrary object set as it content. This object does not have any constraint on its type, so I want this control to display its content based on any data templates defined by application or by data templates defined in Generic.xaml. If in a application I define some data template(without a key because I want it to be applied automatically to objects of that type) and I use the custom control bound to an object of that type, the data template gets applied automatically. But I have some data templates defined for some types in the generic.xaml where I define the custom control style, and these templates are not getting applied automatically. Here is the generic.xaml : If I set an object of type 'PredefinedType' as the content in the contentpresenter, the data template does not get applied. However, If it works if I define the data template in the app.xaml for the application thats using the custom control. Does someone got a clue? I really cant assume that the user of the control will define this data template, so I need some way to tie it up with the custom control.

  I'm hoping to implement something like all of the great plugins out there for ruby, so that you can do this: acts_as_commentable has_attached_file :avatar But I have one constraint: That helper method can only include a module; it can't define any variables or methods. • Put specific tds from a table row into edit using jQuery (then update w/ ajax)

  I'm somewhat new to jQuery, so I could use some help here. This is my issue: I have a php script outputting a dynamic table. Each row has an "edit" button, plus some other fields. Only 3 of those need to be turned into an input box. The edit button should only put that specific row into "edit mode." I got as far as assigning each row a unique class by adding a number to the end of it. I have been able to use jQuery to change all of the rows into edit mode, but I need it to be specific to a row. An example row would have classes like name0, price0, and desc0. The next row would go on to classes name1, price1, and desc1 (for the fields that need changed). How can I reference these values and pass them to jQuery so it processes an event on just those elements?

In a CKEditor dialog, text input fields are renamed with a unique number - e.g. id: 'txtUrl' will become something like id='27_textinput'. How do I reference this? // I feel it should be something like: var myfield = CKEDITOR.instances.myElement.document.$.body.getId('txtUrl'); // or maybe: var myfield = CKEDITOR.dialog.getContentElement('info','txtUrl'); // and then: myfield.value = 'myvalue'; But these don't work. • Does MySQL allow two primary keys on one table?

  CREATE TABLE Orders -> ( -> ID SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, -> ModelID SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, -> Descrip VARCHAR(40), -> PRIMARY KEY (ID, ModelID) -> ); Basically, this appears to me to be creating two primary key on one table. Is that correct? I thought that we could create a number of unique keys in one table, but only one primary key. How is it that my system is allowing the creation of multiple primary keys? Please advise: what are the rules governing this?

• Hibernate - why use many-to-one to represent a one-to-one?

  I've seen people use many-to-one mappings to represent one-to-one relationships. I've also read this in a book by Gavin King and on articles. For example, if a customer can have exactly one shipping address, and a shipping address can belong to only one customer, the mapping is given as: <class name="Customer" table="CUSTOMERS"> ... <many-to-one name="shippingAddress" class="Address" column="SHIPPING_ADDRESS_ID" cascade="save-update" unique="true"/> ... </class> The book reasons as (quoting it): "You don't care what's on the target side of the association, so you can treat it like a to-one association without the many part." My question is, why use many-to-one and not one-to-one? What is it about a one-to-one that makes it a less desirable option to many-to-one? Thanks.

  Hello, I have been looking for a while now but I can not find an easy solution for my problem. I would like to duplicate a record in a table, but of course, the unique primary key needs to be updated. I have this query: INSERT INTO invoices SELECT * FROM invoices AS iv WHERE iv.ID=XXXXX ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ID = (SELECT MAX(ID)+1 FROM invoices) the proble mis that this just changes the ID of the row instead of copying the row. Does anybody know how to fix this ? Thank you verrry much, Digits //edit: I would like to do this without typing all the field names because the field names can change over time.

• How to normalize a database where different user groups have different kinds of profiles?

  My application database has a Groups table that separates users into logical roles and defines access levels (admin, owner, salesperson, customer service, etc.) Groups has many Users. The Users table contains login details such as username and password. Now I wish to add user profiles to my database. The trouble I'm having (probably due to my relative unfamiliarity with proper database normalization) is that different user groups have different kinds of profiles. Ergo, a salesperson's profile will include his commission percentage, whereas an admin or customer service would not need this value. So, would the proper method be to create a unique profile table for each group? (e.g. admin_profiles, or salesperson_profiles). or is there a better way that combines certain details in a generic profile, while some users have extended info. And if so, whats a good example of how to do this with the commission example given?

  Hi In this article Ayende describes how to map a single domain model to multiple physical data models. Is it possible to extend this principle such that the mapping can chosen dynamically? So for example, imagine we had an entity that could be written to the same physical schema in three ways depending on its current status, and lets assume that regardless of status each entity had a unique identifier. One solution would be to represent the entity in its different states with three separate classes: one for each mapping. Then the entity could be loaded and in order to change its state the entity could be mapped to a class representing one of its other states and then saved back to the schema, making use of a different mapping. I was wondering if it is at all possible to have the same entity represented by one class that held a status flag (kind of like a discriminator), and any save to the schema would choose the appropriate mapping based on the value of the status flag.   It must be a fairly standard wheel, so I'd rather not reinvent it. Create/modify/delete users. Ditto their passwords & maybe enforce password change every X days. Also, create groups, like "sales", "support", etc and add/remove users. The only unique part should be what they have permission to do (visit certain parts of the site after login, etc) And I'd like to store admin data in an ODBC compliant database (MySql to start with, but I may move on). Is this a new wheel? There doesn't seem to be much of anything on SourceForge, but if I could find something established and trusted I wouldn't even mind paying a few $100 as a trade of for the time needed to develop & test it.

Apart from this, i.e. working only on a single code base, do GWT has any other advantage compared to other existing framework?? Edit: I'm trying to say why should we use gwt and not another framework?? What is there in GWT that makes it special for web application development??   I am adding a new GUID/Uniqueidentifier column to my table. ALTER TABLE table_name ADD VersionNumber UNIQUEIDENTIFIER UNIQUE NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWSEQUENTIALID() GO And when ever a record is updated in the table, I would want to update this column "VersionNumber". So I create a new trigger CREATE TRIGGER [DBO].[TR_TABLE_NAMWE] ON [DBO].[TABLE_NAME] AFTER UPDATE AS BEGIN UPDATE TABLE_NAME SET VERSIONNUMBER=NEWSEQUENTIALID() FROM TABLE_NAME D JOIN INSERTED I ON D.ID=I.ID/* some ID which is used to join*/ END GO But just realized that NEWSEQUENTIALID() can only be used with CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE. I got this error The newsequentialid() built-in function can only be used in a DEFAULT expression for a column of type 'uniqueidentifier' in a CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statement. It cannot be combined with other operators to form a complex scalar expression. Is there a workaround for this ? Edit1: Changing NEWSEQUENTIALID() to NEWID() in the trigger solves this, but I am indexing this column and using NEWID() would be sub-optimal

• Stored Connection Strings per user

  In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

• Why do values in the row I insert not match the values in the insert query?

  I just can't understand why is my database (mysql) behaving like this! My console shows that the record is created properly (please, notice the "remote_id" value): Tweet Create (0.3ms) INSERT INTO `tweets` (`remote_id`, `text`, `user_id`, `twitter_account_id`) VALUES (12325438258, 'jamaica', 1, 1) But when I check the record, it shows that the remote_id is 2147483647 intead of the provided value (12325438258 in the example above)... This table has many entries, but this field is always written with 2147483647... It was supposed to fill this space with an unique id (which I guarantee you is being generated properly).
