  • Illegal instruction in Assembly

    - by Natasha
I really do not understand why this simple code works fine in the first attempt but when putting it in a procedure an error shows: NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction CS:db22 IP:4de4 OP:f0 ff ff ff ff The first code segment works just fine: .model small .stack 100h .code start: mov ax,@data mov ds,ax mov es,ax MOV AH,02H ;sets cursor up MOV BH,00H MOV DH,02 MOV DL,00 INT 10H EXIT: MOV AH,4CH INT 21H END However This generates an error: .model small .stack 100h .code start: mov ax,@data mov ds,ax mov es,ax call set_cursor PROC set_cursor near MOV AH,02H ;sets cursor up MOV BH,00H MOV DH,02 MOV DL,00 INT 10H RET set_cursor ENDP EXIT: MOV AH,4CH INT 21H END Note: Nothing is wrong with windows config. I have tried many sample codes that work fine Thanks

  • Build warning for distribution configuration of an iPad only application

    - by alan
Hi, I'm getting the following warning when building an ad hoc distribution copy of a new iPad only application: [BWARN]warning: building with 'Targeted Device Family' that includes iPad ('2') requires building with the 3.2 or later SDK. These are my build settings: Architectures: Optimized (armv6 armv7) Any iPhone OS Simulator: i386 Any iPhone OS Device: Optimized (armv6 armv7) Base SDK: iPhone Device 3.2 Valid Architectures: armv6 armv7 Target Device Family: iPad iPhone OS Deployment Target: iPhone OS 3.2 With this in mind I don't understand the warning. It seems to build and run OK but I'd rather not have warnings in my build for obvious reasons. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Alan.

  • LINQ-to-SQL Query Timing Out

    - by kevinw
I'm running this query in LINQ: var unalloc = db.slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs("Repair", RadComboBox1.SelectedValue, 20); It runs when I first open the page, but when I go back to it and try to run the same query with a different value, "Con", being passed through, the linq to sql designer.cs tells me that I've got a timeout error. Any ideas? Edit: This is what's in the designer: [Function(Name="dbo.slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs")] Public ISingleResult<slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobsResult> slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobs([Parameter(Name="JobType", DbType="VarChar(20)")] string jobType, [Parameter(Name="Contract", DbType="VarChar(10)")] string contract, [Parameter(Name="Num", DbType="Int")] System.Nullable<int> num) { IExecuteResult result = this.ExecuteMethodCall(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod())), jobType, contract, num); return ((ISingleResult<slot_sp_getUnallocatedJobsResult>)(result.ReturnValue)); } } This is the error: SQLException was unhandled by user code Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

  • Justified navigation buttons

    - by Kaivosukeltaja
I'm trying to create the primary navigation menu for a website that will have a variable amount of primary menu items. The navigation bar is horizontal and has a width of 738px. I would like to have the leftmost item 18px from the left and the rightmost item 18px from the right edge of the element, with the other menu items spread evenly between them. I'm using a tableless layout. So far I haven't been able to make it work exactly like I want. Setting margin: auto doesn't seem to help, and I can't keep the 18px margin on both sides using a table. One idea was to use text-align: justify but it doesn't justify single lines. Is there a simple or less simple way of doing this, or am I going to have to ask the AD to relax his visual requirements?

  • Impersonation in asp.net, confused about implmentation when used with Active Directory & Sql Server

    - by AWC
I have an internal website that is using integrated windows authentication and this website uses sql server & active directory queries via the System.Directory.Services namespace. To use the System.Directory.Services namespace in ASP.NET I have to run IIS under an account that has the correct privileges and importantly have impersonation set to true in the web config. If this is done then when I make a query against AD then the credentials of the wroker process (IIS) are used instead of the ASPNET account and therefore the queries will now succeed. Now if I am also using Sql Server with a connection string configured for integrated security ('Integrated Security=SSPI') then this interprets the ASP.NET impersonation to mean that I want to access the database as the windows credentials of the request no the worker process. I hope I'm wrong and that I've got the config wrong, but I don't think I have and this seems not to be inconsistent? It should be noted I'm using IIS 5.1 for development and obivously this doesn't have the concept of app-pools which I believe would resolve the problem.

  • improving conversions to binary and back in C#

    - by Saad Imran.
I'm trying to write a general purpose socket server for a game I'm working on. I know I could very well use already built servers like SmartFox and Photon, but I wan't to go through the pain of creating one myself for learning purposes. I've come up with a BSON inspired protocol to convert the the basic data types, their arrays, and a special GSObject to binary and arrange them in a way so that it can be put back together into object form on the client end. At the core, the conversion methods utilize the .Net BitConverter class to convert the basic data types to binary. Anyways, the problem is performance, if I loop 50,000 times and convert my GSObject to binary each time it takes about 5500ms (the resulting byte[] is just 192 bytes per conversion). I think think this would be way too slow for an MMO that sends 5-10 position updates per second with a 1000 concurrent users. Yes, I know it's unlikely that a game will have a 1000 users on at the same time, but like I said earlier this is supposed to be a learning process for me, I want to go out of my way and build something that scales well and can handle at least a few thousand users. So yea, if anyone's aware of other conversion techniques or sees where I'm loosing performance I would appreciate the help. GSBitConverter.cs This is the main conversion class, it adds extension methods to main datatypes to convert to the binary format. It uses the BitConverter class to convert the base types. I've shown only the code to convert integer and integer arrays, but the rest of the method are pretty much replicas of those two, they just overload the type. public static class GSBitConverter { public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this short value) { return BitConverter.GetBytes(value); } public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<short> value) { List<byte> bytes = new List<byte>(); short length = (short)value.Count(); bytes.AddRange(length.ToGSBinary()); for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) bytes.AddRange(value.ElementAt(i).ToGSBinary()); return bytes.ToArray(); } public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this bool value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<bool> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<byte> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this int value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<int> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this long value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<long> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this float value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<float> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this double value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<double> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this string value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<string> value); public static string GetHexDump(this IEnumerable<byte> value); } Program.cs Here's the the object that I'm converting to binary in a loop. class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { GSObject obj = new GSObject(); obj.AttachShort("smallInt", 15); obj.AttachInt("medInt", 120700); obj.AttachLong("bigInt", 10900800700); obj.AttachDouble("doubleVal", Math.PI); obj.AttachStringArray("muppetNames", new string[] { "Kermit", "Fozzy", "Piggy", "Animal", "Gonzo" }); GSObject apple = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Apple"); apple.AttachString("color", "red"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)1.5); GSObject lemon = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Lemon"); apple.AttachString("color", "yellow"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", false); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)0.8); GSObject apricoat = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Apricoat"); apple.AttachString("color", "orange"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)1.9); GSObject kiwi = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Kiwi"); apple.AttachString("color", "green"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)2.3); GSArray fruits = new GSArray(); fruits.AddGSObject(apple); fruits.AddGSObject(lemon); fruits.AddGSObject(apricoat); fruits.AddGSObject(kiwi); obj.AttachGSArray("fruits", fruits); Stopwatch w1 = Stopwatch.StartNew(); for (int i = 0; i < 50000; i++) { byte[] b = obj.ToGSBinary(); } w1.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(BitConverter.IsLittleEndian ? "Little Endian" : "Big Endian"); Console.WriteLine(w1.ElapsedMilliseconds + "ms"); } Here's the code for some of my other classes that are used in the code above. Most of it is repetitive. • Problem generating APN SSL certificate after submitting to apple store

    - by MikeQ
I'm having trouble getting Apple to generate an APN SSL certificate for my app ID. I've submitted the application to the Apple store, and it is pending review. I tested the application using an Ad Hoc app ID "${bundle_id}.adHoc" and everything went fine. I submitted to the Apple store with app ID "${bundle_id}.release". Now I want to generate my production APN SSL certificate for use with my release application ID - but the developer portal doesn't want to. When I upload my certificate request, it sits for about a minute before telling me: "We are not able to generate your Profile at this time. Please try again later or try using the Provisioning Portal" Is it impossible to generate your certificate while the application is under review or something? Should I have generated it prior to submission?

  • What is the significance of ProjectTypeGuids tag in the visual studio project file

    - by sudarsanyes
What is the significance of the ProjectTypeGuids tag in a visual studio project?? When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag? It would also be better if someone differentiate the ProjectType and ProjectTypeGuids tags. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2010 RC currently Thanks

  • While loop in IL - why stloc.0 and ldloc.0?

    - by Michael Stum
I'm trying to understand how a while loop looks in IL. I have written this C# function: static void Brackets() { while (memory[pointer] > 0) { // Snipped body of the while loop, as it's not important } } The IL looks like this: .method private hidebysig static void Brackets() cil managed { // Code size 37 (0x25) .maxstack 2 .locals init ([0] bool CS$4$0000) IL_0000: nop IL_0001: br.s IL_0012 IL_0003: nop // Snipped body of the while loop, as it's not important IL_0011: nop IL_0012: ldsfld uint8[] BFHelloWorldCSharp.Program::memory IL_0017: ldsfld int16 BFHelloWorldCSharp.Program::pointer IL_001c: ldelem.u1 IL_001d: ldc.i4.0 IL_001e: cgt IL_0020: stloc.0 IL_0021: ldloc.0 IL_0022: brtrue.s IL_0003 IL_0024: ret } // end of method Program::Brackets For the most part this is really simple, except for the part after cgt. What I don't understand is the local [0] and the stloc.0/ldloc.0. As far as I see it, cgt pushes the result to the stack, stloc.0 gets the result from the stack into the local variable, ldloc.0 pushes the result to the stack again and brtrue.s reads from the stack. What is the purpose of doing this? Couldn't this be shortened to just cgt followed by brtrue.s?

I have an image. I want to resize it using PIL, but it come out like this. Even without a resize it still messes up the colour. Minimal code: from PIL import Image import os import urllib import webbrowser orig_url = 'http://mercedesclub.org.uk/images/stackoverflow-question/least-popular-colours-_-500-x-500.jpg' temp_fn, _ = urllib.urlretrieve(orig_url) im = Image.open(temp_fn) fn = os.tempnam() + '.jpg' im.save(fn) webbrowser.open(fn) I've tried Image.open(temp_fn).convert(format) with 'RGB', 'CMYK' and 'L' as formats, but still get weirdly coloured or grey results. • Cure for puzzle piece programming habits?

    - by Recursion
Even though I went to a decent CS school, I was still taught with the mentality of programming with puzzle pieces. By puzzle pieces I mean, looking up code segments at each step of the development process and adding them together as needed. Eventually gathering all of the pieces and having a properly working program. So as an example, if in my program the next step is to tokenize a string, I go to google and search "how do I tokenize a string in language". All instead of critically thinking about its implementation. I personally don't think its a very good way to program and I always seem to forget everything that I have searched for. So how can I get out of this puzzle piece mode of programmer that I was taught.

  • get SSL Broken pipe error when try to make push notification

    - by emagic
We develop an iPhone app, and have push notification for development and ad hoc version working properly. But when we try to send push notification to real user devices in our database, we got SSL connection reset, then Broken pipe error. We think maybe there are too many devices in our database (more than 70000), so it is failed to send all messages at the same time. So we try to send messages to 1000 devices once, but still got this "Broken pipe" error for around 100 messages. And we are not sure whether the messages have been send. Any suggestion?
