  I think back in the old days, some email programs let users Paste an image right inside the email content. (maybe WinMail or Outlook?) So for example, we can write some text, embed an image, and then write some more text, and embed another image. The recipient will get the email content in the above text-image-text-image order (instead of having all images attached at the end of email) Can any web-based email program do that? Note that the image is not just a link, but a complete file. For example, Gmail lets us paste an image, but it is actually just a link to some web location. Can the actual file content be embedded instead?

• "Does not make sense to draw an image" - Warning after upgrade to MountainLion

  After I upgraded my programming machine to MountainLion and XCode to the new version I get this warning printed into the console everytime I run my application: It does not make sense to draw an image when [NSGraphicsContext currentContext] is nil. This is a programming error. Break on void _NSWarnForDrawingImageWithNoCurrentContext() to debug. This will be logged only once. This may break in the future. I'm not using an Image anywhere in my Application and I searched the whole project for an image but couldn't find one. Does anybody know what could cause this? I'm using 2 nib files btw: One Popover and the Mainwindow. Neither of them contains an image. Edit: I found the line when this appears: [self.popover showRelativeToRect:[appDelegate.menulet frame] ofView:appDelegate.menulet preferredEdge:NSMinYEdge]; But none of those object is nil. Any suggestions? Edit 2: The Menulet is a NSView subclass btw. So I'm passing a view.

• How to change image and disable UIBarButtonItem

  I have a NavigationBar app with two views: a parent and a sub view. In the sub view I'm adding a button to the right corner as follows: - (void)viewDidLoad { UIBarButtonItem *tempButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"lock-unlocked.png"] style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(lockScreen)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = tempButton; [tempButton release]; } When that button is clicked I want to change the image of this rightBarButtonItem and disable the leftBarButtonItem (which was added automatically by the controller). Basically have two states of a button, locked and unlocked. Question 1: The only way I can find how to change the image is to create a new UIButtonItem with a new image and replace rightBarButtonItem with that new one. But I'm wondering if there's a way to just change the image without creating a new UIBarButtonItem. Am I creating a memory leak if I keep creating new UIBarButtonItem? Question 2: How can I get a hold of self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem and disable/enable it? I don't create that one manually, it's created automatically for me by the controller. I don't see any method/property on UIBarButtonItem to enable/disable user interaction with it.

Firstly this will only make sense really to anyone who's used this class For example the GetTimebounds,SetTimeBounds, ClipTimeBounds functions what are these actually doing? Also when using it, i get crashes caused by example this method in the main Fetch method - ZeroABL(abl, 0, destStartOffset * mBytesPerFrame); CARingBufferError CARingBuffer::Fetch(AudioBufferList *abl, UInt32 nFrames, SampleTime startRead) { SampleTime endRead = startRead + nFrames; SampleTime startRead0 = startRead; SampleTime endRead0 = endRead; SampleTime size; CARingBufferError err = ClipTimeBounds(startRead, endRead); if (err) return err; size = endRead - startRead; SInt32 destStartOffset = startRead - startRead0; if (destStartOffset 0) { ZeroABL(abl, 0, destStartOffset * mBytesPerFrame); } Here the destStartOffset has become larger than the size of the abl Bufferlist so when a memset is done it exceeds the boundaries of the abl Bufferlist causing the crash. Why hasn't this class got checks in to prevent this.

I have this set up so that when you click on a Person it publishes another subclassed UITableViewController that uses a NSFetchedController as well to display the Courses associated to the person. PROBLEM: I get this exception whenever I click on the Person and attempt to display the Course UITableViewController ... "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'keypath name not found in entity <NSSQLEntity Course id=2>'" Any ideas on how to resolve or troubleshoot? The code between the two ViewControllers is almost identical except for the NSFetchedResultsController being configured for "Person" entities in one and "Course" entities in another

  Hi, I'm having difficulties animating my custom layer property using Core Anmiation. My question is how the presentation of a CALayer is generated. Here is what I have now: @interface MyLayer : CALayer { NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; @end And when I try to animate the key path "customProperties.roll" using CABasicAnimation and addAnimation:forKey:, it seems that the customProperties variable doesn't get copied from the model layer to the presentation layer, and the customProperties of the presentation layer appears to be nil, failing to update the value for the key "roll". Is there a way to animate values in a dictionary correctly? What is the exact relationship between a model layer and a presentation layer while being animated? Thanks!

• [cocoa] NSSearchField not working as expected

  Hi, I'm trying to follow Marcus Zarra in his book 'Core Data'. In the book, he makes a small sample application, but it doesn't give much help when things don't work out... He starts out by visually designing three entities, and then adding array controllers for each entity to the main nib. Second, he adds a tableview and some other visual components to show data from the array controllers. So far, I have managed to follow, but now he adds a search field to the gui, and binds it to the same array controller as one of the tableviews. Expected behavior would be for the tableview to get filtered when typing in the search field, but nothing happens. How do I find out what's wrong? The relevant parts from the nib is as follow: NSArrayController Recipes - Mode = Entity - Enitity Name = Recipe TableView w/TableColumn - Value Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = arrangedObjects -- Model Key Path = name Search Field - Predicate Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = filterPredicate -- Model Key Path = name -- Display name = predicate -- Predicate Format = keyPath contains $value There are no relevant messages in the console. regards, -Vegar

• How to use walker to replace core function

  I want to modify the way pages are listed in the navigation, particularly the function el_start from wp-includes/classes.php. I've first modified the classes.php directly and it worked fine butnow I want to revert classes.php and move the modification out of wordpress' internal files. I wrote a walker class that I want to use but I don't know how to use it. I want to replace the current call wp_list_pages() to this: $walker_pages = new Walker_Page_CustomTitle; wp_list_pages(array('walker' => $walker_pages, 'title_li' => '', 'depth' => '1')); I've tried using a filter like so: function wp_list_pages_custom() { $walker_pages = new Walker_Page_CustomTitle; wp_list_pages(array('walker' => $walker_pages, 'title_li' => '', 'depth' => '1')); } add_filter('widget_area_primary_aside', 'wp_list_pages_custom'); But with this filter, the site won't load anymore. The tutorial here says I should put this code in header.php but that just puts my page links in the tag. I hope I'm making sense. Thanks.

• Crash when trying to get NSManagedObject from NSFetchedResultsController after 25 objects?

  Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to Core Data on iOS, but I think I've been getting better with it. I've been experiencing a bizarre crash, however, in one of my applications and have not been able to figure it out. I have approximately 40 objects in Core Data, presented in a UITableView. When tapping on a cell, a UIActionSheet appears, presenting the user with a UIActionSheet with options related to the cell that was selected. • Add Image to Base64 Encoded ImageStream in Resources (resx)

  I'm working on an older project, updating it. Part of the program has a toolstrip with many buttons on it, each with an image. I found that the images are stored in a Base64 encoded imagestream in the resx for the form and accessed as such: System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager resources = new System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager(typeof(Form1)); ... this.imageList1 = new System.Windows.Forms.ImageList(this.components); ... this.toolStrip1.ImageList = this.imageList1; ... this.imageList1.ImageStream = ((System.Windows.Forms.ImageListStreamer)(resources.GetObject("imageList1.ImageStream"))); ... this.toolStripButton1.ImageIndex = 0; //There are 41 images, so this can be between 0 and 40 I need to add another button with a new image. How can I add an image to this stream? I cannot use the designer, as it crashes as soon as I load the form (I believe because it uses a custom component with unsafe code). I could always just add a new image resource separate from the stream, but that would make that one button different and thus it would create problems with consistency, causing upkeep problems later. So I'm wondering if there is any way for me to edit the imagestream. I can access the raw base64 string, but I have no idea where to go from here.

• How do I convert a Linux disk image into a sparse file?

  I have a bunch of disk images, made with ddrescue, on an EXT partition, and I want to reduce their size without losing data, while still being mountable. How can I fill the empty space in the image's filesystem with zeros, and then convert the file into a sparse file so this empty space is not actually stored on disk? For example: > du -s --si --apparent-size Jimage.image 120G Jimage.image > du -s --si Jimage.image 121G Jimage.image This actually only has 50G of real data on it, though, so the second measurement should be much smaller. This supposedly will fill empty space with zeros: cat /dev/zero > zero.file rm zero.file But if sparse files are handled transparently, it might actually create a sparse file without writing anything to the virtual disk, ironically preventing me from turning the virtual disk image into a sparse file itself. :) Does it? Note: For some reason, sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=./zero.file works when cat does not on a mounted disk image.

• How to setup matlab for parallel processing on Amazon EC2?

  I just setup a Extra Large Heavy Computation EC2 instance to throw it at my Genetic Algorithms problem, hoping to speed up things. This instance has 8 Intel Xeon processors (around 2.4Ghz each) and 7 Gigs of RAM. On my machine I have an Intel Core Duo, and matlab is able to work with my two cores just fine. On the EC2 instance though, matlab only is capable of detecting 1 out of 8 processors. Obviously the difference is that I have my 2 cores on a single processor, while the EC2 instance has 8 distinct processors. My question is, how do I get matlab to work with those 8 processors? I found this paper, but it seems related to setting up matlab with multiple EC2 instances, which is not my problem. Any help appreciated!

  Hi, Im loading an image from a SQL CE db and then trying to load that into a PictureBox. I am saving the image like this: if (ofd.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { picArtwork.ImageLocation = ofd.FileName; using (System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(ofd.FileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open)) { byte[] imageAsBytes = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(imageAsBytes, 0, imageAsBytes.Length); thisItem.Artwork = imageAsBytes; fs.Close(); } } and then saving to the Db using LINQ To SQL. I load the image back like so: using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:\Temp\img.jpg", FileMode.CreateNew ,FileAccess.Write )) { byte[] img = (byte[])encoding.GetBytes(ThisFilm.Artwork.ToString()); fs.Write(img, 0, img.Length); } but am getting an OutOfMemoryException. I have read that this is a slight red herring and that there is probably something wrong with the filetype, but i cant figure what. Any ideas?   I have a Core Data entity whose header file looks like this: @interface MyEntity : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * index; @end And it's implementation file looks like this: @implementation MyEntity @dynamic index; @end Now, I have a piece of code that looks like this: NSArray* selectedObects = [myEntityArrayController selectedObjects]; NSUInteger theIndex = [[[selectedObects objectAtIndex:0] index] unsignedIntegerValue]; The 'myEntityArrayController' object is a NSArrayController which manages all entities of MyEntity. This code executes correctly, however XCode always gives the warning "Invalid receiver type 'NSUInteger'" for the last line of code. For some reason, XCode thinks that the index method returns a NSUInteger. I'm not sure why it thinks this, because 'objectAtIndex' returns an object of type 'id'. I've cleaned the project several times, and these warnings have hung around for a while. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Any idea? Edit: in the end the object (space ship) has to rotate like a clock pointer, as if it is turning right/left.

  Hi all and sorry in advance for this post but I've spent way too much time going around in circles so I'm hoping someone could shed a light on it here for me. I updated a webapp on Tomcat and I'm getting the following error which didn't exist on the previous version. Though I am quite confident that the part of code I modifed isn't to blame as I have tested the app on two different dev servers. The production server is configured thus: CentOS 5.4 virtual server with tomcat 5.5.23 running mysql 5.0.77. The two dev servers are: Windows XP SP2 running tomcat 5.5.23 with mysql 5.1.49 Mac OSX 10.6.6 Running tomcat 6 with mysql 5.1.51 The application was developed using struts (1.1 as far as I can gather) with hibernate 3 as the peristence layer. It only fails on the production server for some reason I can't fathom. I'd like to draw your attention to the java.sql.SQLException near the bottom. After some long searching I found this but because it was posted years ago (about 1 year before development started on this app I'm sure Hibernate has evolved from that version. as I can't find a way of implementing his solution. I use Eclipse Helios as an IDE. • ntpd on Fedora Core 6 with high negative time rest values

  The basic problem is we have a FC6 server instance running on a virtual machine, and the system time seems to have been slowly varying until it is now causing a problem. The server runs 24/7 and has been up for 155 days. It has been changed to show GMT, and reports the time as (example) 00:15:15 GMT whereas the actual time is 00:00:00 GMT. This is an offset of 915 seconds. selinux has been changed to 'setenforce 0' for testing and I am running as root. I stop the ntpd service and change the time in System|Administration|Date & Time. The time still shows the same with 'date' in bash. There are no error logs. I change the date with 'date --set' in bash. The response confirms the changed date. I run 'date' and the incorrect date is shown. There are no error logs. I start the ntpd service and /var/log/messages shows success with 'time reset -915.720139s'. The date remains unchanged. ntpq -p shows three three time servers all have offsets of around -915 seconds. I stop ntpd service and try 'ntpd -gqx' and get the same result as above - success, but a large negative time reset. I've tried varying combinations of the above, and a few more settings in System|Administration|Date & Time - no change. I just need to reset the system time to GMT. No offset. But I can't wait for ntpd to slew the time over the next few weeks. Any advice is welcome, cheers! Sure this shouldn't be this difficult... Mark...

• [Cocoa] CoreData bindings for NSPopupButton

  I'm looking to use a dropdown menu (possibly an NSPopupButton object) to represent the hierarchical results of two Core Data entities (Genre and Movie) and their relationships. In my current data model, my Genre entity has a one-to-many relationship with my Movie entity. What I'm now looking to do is generate the contents of an NSPopupButton to show a hierarchical list of Genres and the Movies associated with them, like so: Genre 1 Film 1 Film 2 Genre 2 Film 3 Film 4 Note that, in the above example, only Movie objects are to be selectable by the user (Genre objects will appear, but be unselectable). Also, to complicate matters slightly, I have an additional NSPopupButton which lists Movie Rental locations. The location selected by the user ultimately impacts on the genres and films available in the second dropdown. I imagine that bindings will only take me so far with this problem and that, ultimately, I'll have to populate the contents of the dropdown menu myself. I'm posting here for thoughts and opinions on the best way to go about this.

• iPhone "slide to unlock" animation

  Any ideas as to how Apple implemented the "slide to unlock" (also, "slide to power off" is another identical example) animation? I thought about some sort of animating mask - but masking is not available on the iPhone OS for performance reasons. Is there some private API effect (like SuckEffect) that they might have used? A spotlight type of effect? Some Core Animation thing? Edit: It's definitely not a series of stills. I've seen examples of being edit a plist value or something and customize the string on jailbroken iphones.
