    I am setting up server for hosting two WordPress which has size of around 70GB. I have already installed CentOS as OS and I would like to partition the Disk. Is there any tool which can help me or can someone guide me though the process as I am not expert is SSH commands. Here are some output that might help.   • Can I redirect the HTTP request towards an old folder to the homepage using .htaccess file?

    I have to following situation: I had an old blog that was made using Joomla (this blog was indexed well enough by search engines). For some problems I delete it and I have create it again using WordPress. Now I have many visit (from Google) that leading to specific pages of the old site (pages that don't exist in the new version). For example I have visit to URL as: /scorejava/index.php/corso-spring-mvc/1-test that don't exist on my new site. I would know if using the .htaccess file (or other sistem) I can redirect the HTTP request directed to some subfolder (that don't exist in the new version) to the homepage of my new site. For example I have the request towards the void URL: /scorejava/index.php/corso-spring-mvc/1-test. And I would create a regular expression that say something like: all the request toward the subfolder corso-spring-mvc (and all it's content file and subfolder) have to be redirected to www.scorejava.com. Is it possible?

    I'm developing a single page application with a lot of css & javascript. For now the page is 1.3Mo composed by 5 section. Here are the rounded stats : Document : 10kb Style : 60kb Images : 450 kb (already compressed, include a big gallery thumbnails) Javascript : 700kb - 600kb of "framework" (jquery, jquery-ui, boostrap, modernizer, waypoint, ...) and 100kb of custom js. Fonts : 125kb And the site is not finished yet. (Will include gmap api, and some others...) My questions are : Do you have any statistics about the average weight of an SPA? As this is the whole website, do you think it's acceptable? Is lazy load (for images) a solution? What will be impact for SEO ? Is the "200kb rule" of google still relevant? Do you know great tools to detect which javascript code is not used during the the exection of a page and then the availability to optimize these 700kb of framework js stuffs? Can a caching strategy be an answer?

  • How can I rewrite a subdomain to go to a specific file in a specific folder?

    I've done searching for my answer and have tested a few solutions, but nothing has worked so far. I'm trying to get a URL like this: http://baseball.sports.com to rewrite to... http://pro.sports.com/baseball-index.php However, I still need to keep the domain the same (http://baseball.sports.com). The reason being I have about 5 subdomains (baseball, football, soccer, etc) that I want to run off the same code base (pro.sports.com). Everything is on the same server. I'd be happy to answer any other questions that would help me get a resolution. I truly appreciate any direction that can be given to me to solve this. Thanks! --Nick

  • .htaccess - Simulating virtual host wrong link to Parent Directory in Directory Listing

    I have a domain dedicated for my local server (.dev), and an .htaccess file which redirects requests like http://folder.dev/subfolder/ to /htdocs/folder/subfolder. It works great and all, except for one minor issue. When I have the Directory Listing enabled, I can access all the folders, subfolders and files properly, except when I click on the Parent Directory link, which, for example, should lead to http://folder.dev, but redirects to http://folder.dev/folder/ and consequently throws 404 not found. Similarly, if Parent Directory should link to http://folder.dev/subfolder/, it links to http://folder.dev/folder/subfolder/.   • When creating a GUI wizard, should all pages/tabs be of the same size? [closed]

    I understand that some libraries would force me to, but my question is general. If I have a set of buttons at the bottom: Back, Next, Cancel?, (other?), then should their location ever change? If the answer is no, then what do I do about pages with little content? Do I stretch things? Place them in the lone upper left corner? According to Steve Krug, it does not make sense to add anything to GUI that does not need to be there. I understand that there are different approaches to wizards - some have tabs, others do not. Some tabs are lined horizontally at the top; others - vertically on the left. Some do not show pages/tabs, and are simply sequences of dialogs. This is probably a must when the wizard is "non-linear", e.g. some earlier choices can result in branching. Either way the problem is the same - sacrifice on the consistency of the "big picture" (outline of the page/tab + location of buttons), or the consistency of details (some tabs might be somewhat packed; others having very little content). A third choice, I suppose is putting extra effort in the content in order to make sure that organizing the content such that it is more or less evenly distributed from page to page. However, this can be difficult to do (say, when the very first tab contains only a choice of three things, and then branches off from there; there are probably other examples), and hard to maintain this balance if any of the content changes later. Can you recommend a good approach? A link to a relevant good blog post or a chapter of a book is also welcome. Let me know if you have questions.

    My OSX is Simplified Chinese, so the user folders in finder's sidebar is like this: AirDrop ???? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? These stand for AirDrop, Applications, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Musics and Pictures. However, now with an accident, my "Downloads" folders in sidebar is changed to its original english name, and I don't why, so my sidebar is now look like: AirDrop ???? ?? ?? Downloads ?? ?? ?? I know do symbol link to these folders would cause such case but I cannot find any symbol links to my ~/Downloads folder. So is there any way to get the Chinese name back? it looks so weired and dirty. I have a time machine backup 3 days ago, but I have quite a lot modifications to my user folder these 3 days, so time machine may not be a good choice.

    I am using centos 5.7 with cPanel WHM running fastcgi/suEXEC I am trying to make a particular folder writable to allow a script to upload files but seem to be having problems. The folder (and all recursive folders) I want to be writable is: /home/mydomain/public_html/uploads And I want only scripts run by the user "songbanc" to be able to write to this directory. I have tried the following: chown -R songbanc /home/mydomain/public_html/uploads chmod -R 755 /home/mydomain/public_html/uploads But it still doesn't seem to work. The script will only upload files if I set the permissions manually via FTP client to 777. I assume I am misunderstanding how to set permission for users with fastcgi and hopefully someone can help me. Thanks Im looking for an app that will let me automatically sync a usb drive with a folder on my home system over the internet. I would like to roam from computer to computer and run this syncing app from the usb drive. Im looking for the same functionally as DropBox but without the 2gb restriction and without the need to fully install. Two Way sync between a usb drive and pc over the net Utilizes the full size of the usb drive not limited by an online storage size. (I dont need online backup or versioning) Allows the removal of the usb drive, Plugging it in to another computer will resume its sync. While the drive is connected the app should run silently keeping changed files in sync. (I dont want to run a manual process other than simply starting the app) Must be able to run as a portable app from the usb drive but can fully install on home pc. Window 7 Support is preferable.     Why do I ask? I want to use one language not two. Yes I know with Java and .NET I can program anything, but, as a website it should have a good design, I don't want to build ugly sites. Which is why for smaller sites I use PHP, I can get the e-comm I want and also a nice UI pretty easily, unlike in ASP.NET. But would I run into this design rstriction with Java (I've never used it). Plus, Java would also give me exposure to Android development. So..then I could ditch PHP? I guess I am looking for the 'one ring to rule them all', and not 2 or 3 (languages). Thanks in advance,

  • Could Wordpress be used/extended as a medium-size ecommerce site? [migrated]

    Is wordpress reliable enough and could it be used with a proper plugin as a medium sized ecommerce site? We are talking around 1500 products here, estimates say around 5 to 10 costumers per day, usually returning ones. Some days none. I have a client who wants to sell online. We are situated in a country where people dont see web as something serious enough. Still, they literally have a budget of pretty much none. And 1500 products to sell online. Magento, or any other open source ecommerce platform are out of the question, there is just no resources for starting something like that. Or any time. Only way is something free, small, absolutely not resource hungry as Wordpress. I have to fight with making it work with only what i have at disposal. Also, if you can recommend any wordpress plugin for the job(WP-ecommerce?), i will be very thankful. I guess something paid, up to maximum 50$ would work too.

  • How do I change the default ftp folder in Mac OS X 10.6?

    I'm running WordPress 2.9.1 from a Mac running 10.6.3. WordPress is installed to the /Library/WebServer/Documents folder. WordPress has a feature called Auto Update. Clicking an auto update button will download and install updated versions of the WordPress software, or third-party plugin tools. It's a convenient way to keep things up to date. WordPress uses FTP to download the files. I've enabled FTP and set up a user account and opened the requisite ports in my firewall for FTP traffic. This doesn't seem to be enough for my self-hosted installation, though. I'm sure this feature was originally designed for someone who has access to a remote shared webserver, and that it's merely a configuration challenge related to the FTP setup. I feel that if I can adjust the initial directory that the FTP service presents to the AutoUpdate feature, everything else will work properly. So, my question is, how do I adjust what folder is presented when a given user connects to a Mac running 10.6.3 via FTP?

  • Picasa duplicates everything into a `$My Pictures` folder.

    My parents have a Windows XP laptop running Picasa, Dutch version of both. It's configured to put imported photos in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Mijn documenten\Mijn afbeeldingen, which is Windows XP's default My Pictures folder localized to Dutch. A while back I noticed disk space was going much faster than it should be. Turns out there was a Documents and Settings\user\Mijn documenten\$My Pictures pretty much the same size as the original one. This was well over a year ago. I figured it to be an internationalization bug, the $My Pictures thing looks like a placeholder that didn't get resolved. I figured it'd get fixed soon. It didn't. I threw out Picasa, tediously cleaned up the mess it left behind and replaced it by Windows Live Photo Gallery. My parents found WLPG to be unworkable and asked to get Picasa back. I reinstalled it, by now it's at 3.8.0 (build 117.29, 0). Wouldn't you have it, the mystery $My Pictures folder is back, 25GB of disk space has evaporated and it's the same mess it used to be. What's going on here? How do I stop it doing this?

I've argued that it's easier to do the shredding on the ASP.NET side where we already have access to things like deserializers, etc, and the entire complex of known types, but no, the boss says "shred it on the server, return a dataset, bind the dataset to the columns of the gridview" so for now, I'm doing what I was told.     Now, seriously... I'll refrain from using bad words here because we're talking about the Boost fellows. It MUST be my mistake to see things this way, but I can't understand why, so I'll ask it here; maybe someone can enlighten me in this matter. Here it goes: uBLAS has this nice class template called bounded_vector<> that's used to create fixed-size vectors (or so I thought). From the Effective uBLAS wiki (http://www.crystalclearsoftware.com/cgi-bin/boost_wiki/wiki.pl?Effective_UBLAS): The default uBLAS vector and matrix types are of variable size. Many linear algebra problems involve vectors with fixed size. 2 and 3 elements are common in geometry! Fixed size storage (akin to C arrays) can be implemented efficiently as it does not involve the overheads (heap management) associated with dynamic storage. uBLAS implements fixed sizes by changing the underling storage of a vector/matrix to a "bounded_array" from the default "unbounded_array". Alright, this bounded_vector<> thing is used to free you from specifying the underlying storage of the vector to a bounded_array<> of the specified size. Here I ask you: doesn't it look like this bounded vector thing has fixed size to you? Well, it doesn't have. At first I felt betrayed by the wiki, but then I reconsidered the meaning of "bounded" and I think I can let it pass. But in case you, like me (I'm still uncertain), is still wondering if this makes sense, what I found out is that the bounded_vector<> actually can be resized, it may only not be greater than the size specified as template parameter. So, first off, do you think they've had a good reason not to make a real fixed<< size vector or matrix type? Do you think it's okay to "sell" this bounded -- as opposed to fixed-size -- vector to the users of my library as a "fixed-size" vector replacement, even named "Vector3" or "Vector2", like the Effective uBLAS wiki did? Do you think I should somehow implement a vector with fixed size for this purpose? If so, how? (Sorry, but I'm really new to uBLAS; just tried it today) I am developing a 3D game. Should uBLAS be used for the calculations involved in this ("hey, geometry!", per Effective uBLAS wiki)? What replacement would you suggest, if not? -- edit And just in case, yes, I've read this warning: It should be noted that this only changes the storage uBLAS uses for the vector3. uBLAS will still use all the same algorithm (which assume a variable size) to manipulate the vector3. In practice this seems to have no negative impact on speed. The above runs just as quickly as a hand crafted vector3 which does not use uBLAS. The only negative impact is that the vector3 always store a "size" member which in this case is redundant [or isn't it? I mean......].     Hi, I found the iPhone simulator at /Username/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.2/ and in there I can see my apps within a cryptic directory name. One of my apps is storing a database and some cached files in the iPhone's "Personal" folder which I thought is the "Documents" folder in the directory of the simulator. But there's nothing in it. Nevertheless, I can read my files - where are they? René

  • Java heap keeps on shrinking! What is happening in this graph of heap size?

    Hi Guys, This is a screen shot of a JVM (win64, 6u17) running ActiveMQ, after every garbage collection the heap size is reducing. As the heap size reduces garbage collection gets more frequent and the heap reduces more quickly. Eventually the VM locks up as it's spending all it's time in GC. -Xms is the default and -Xmx is 2048mb. What is happening!!?
