  • Initializing Detail View from nib with parameters passed from Root View

    - by culov
I'm have a map view with a number of annotations on it... once the callout is clicked, i need to pass several parameters to the DetailViewController, so ive been trying to do this through the constructor. I've debugged a bit and discovered that the arguments are being passed properly and are being received as expected within the constructor, but for some reason whenever I try to change the values of the IBOutlets I've positioned in the nib, it never has an effect. Here's what im passing (btw, im getting a "No initWithNibName : bundle : header' method found" warning at this line): DetailViewController *dvc = [[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailViewController" bundle:nil header:headerText]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:dvc animated:YES]; Now heres my constructor: - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil header:(UILabel*)headerLabel { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { self.headerTextView = headerLabel; NSLog(@"header:%@", headerLabel.text); } return self; } Once again, the problem is that headerLabel.text is printed properly in the console, but the line self.headerTextView = headerLabel; doesnt seem to be doing what I want it to do. Thanks!

  • Making a circular NSSlide look and behave like in GarageBand

    - by Koning Baard
I am new to drawing with Cocoa, and I am making some software which will have sliders similar to these found in GarageBand: These look beautiful and can be controld by moving the mouse up and down. Can you help me with customizing NSSliders by subclassing them, so I can make them look and behave exactly as in GarageBand? Thanks. I have one image for the knob which should be rotated as they do not need to be in 3D .

  • iPhone: Error and error handling confusion in comparison.

    - by Mr. McPepperNuts
NSArray *results = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; if(results == nil){ NSLog(@"No results found"); searchObj = nil; }else{ if ([[[results objectAtIndex:0] name] caseInsensitiveCompare:passdTextToSearchFor] == 0) { NSLog(@"results %@", [[results objectAtIndex:0] name]); searchObj = [results objectAtIndex:0]; }else { NSLog(@"No results found"); searchObj = nil; } } The code above compares data a user enters to data pulled from a database. If I enter data which is in the database; it works. But if I enter complete gibberish it returns the error below instead of "No results found." *** WebKit discarded an uncaught exception in the webView:shouldInsertText:replacingDOMRange:givenAction: delegate: <NSRangeException> *** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0) The results array being null should be accounted for during the checks in the above code, no?

  • UITableView: Mixing static and dynamic cells

    - by AlexR
I am trying to mix dynamic and static cells in a grouped table view: I would like to get two sections with static cells at the top followed by a section of dynamic cells (please refer to the screenshot below). I have set the table view contents to static cells. I designed the static cells in Interface Builder and gave them identifiers related to their section and row: "section0static0", "section0static1", "section1static0" and "section1static1". I named the dynamic cell "section2dynamic". My delegate methods, in which I am trying to return the correct cell identifier (static or dynamic) are as follows: - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { switch (section) { case 0: return 2; break; case 1: return 2; break; case 2: return 0; break; default: break; } return 0; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @""; if (indexPath.section <= 1) CellIdentifier = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"section%istatic%i",indexPath.section,indexPath.row]; else CellIdentifier = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"section%idynamic",indexPath.section]; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath]; return cell; } Edit Based on AppleFreak's advice I have changed my code as follows: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell; if (indexPath.section <= 1) { // section <= 1 indicates static cells cell = [super tableView:tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; } else { // section > 1 indicates dynamic cells CellIdentifier = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"section%idynamic",indexPath.section]; cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath]; } return cell; } However, my app crashes with error message Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'UITableView dataSource must return a cell from tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:' for section 0 and row 0. The cell returned from cell = [super tableView:tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath] for section 0 and row 0 is nil. What is wrong with my code? Could there be any problems with my outlets? I haven't set any outlets because I am subclassing UITableViewController and supposedly do not any outlets for tableview to be set (?). Any suggestions on how to better do it?

  • Automatically determining the size of a UITableViewCell

    - by hanno
I am trying to determine the size of a UITableCellView. The reason being that I am using one class for different orientations and devices. The cell contains one subview that is supposed to fill the entire cell. Right know I'm doing this in the UITableViewCell's init method: if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad){ //iPad subv = [[OrbitView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(52, 5, 660, 420) ]; }else{ //iPhone subv = [[OrbitView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(15, 5, 290, 200) ]; } Clearly, there must be a better way of doing this, without the magic numbers. How/Where should I set the frame of the subview in the UITableViewCell so that it fills the entire UITableViewCell?

  • Require Integer Value not Memory Address whilst avoiding Invalid receiver type compiler warning

    - by Dave Anderson
I have the following code; int days = [[SettingsUtils daysToRetainHistory] intValue]; [retainHistory setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Days to retain History: %d", days]]; [daysToRetainHistory setValue:days animated:NO]; where [SettingsUtils daysToRetainHistory] is as follows; + (int) daysToRetainHistory { return (int)[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"CaseBaseDaysToRetainHistory"]; } I get the compiler warning Invalid receiver type 'int' because I call intValue on an int but unless I do this I can't seem to get the integer value out and always end up with the memory address i.e. 98765432 instead of 9 which ruins the UILabel display [retainHistory] and the UISlider [daysToRetainHistory] value. How do I avoid the compiler warning and still get my integer value in the label and the necessary float value for setting the UISlider value?

  • set different images to uitableview cell

    - by Sudha
    I am making an app in which one of the view has a tableview. Tableview cell has two conditions. There are two images which are going to be set on uitableview cell according to the condition i.e. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{ NSString *que =[[userqueries objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]objectForKey:@"question"]; NSString *ans =[[userqueries objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]objectForKey:@"answer"]; static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil){ cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; cell.imageView.image=nil; if ((que.length!=0)&&(ans.length!=0)) { UIImageView* imag = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 75)]; imag.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"ques.png"]; [cell.contentView addSubview:imag]; questext = [[UITextView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 0, 300, 35)]; questext.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; questext.delegate = self; questext.tag = 101; questext.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; questext.editable = NO; questext.scrollEnabled = YES; [cell addSubview:questext]; anstext = [[UITextView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 37, 300, 35)]; anstext.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; anstext.delegate = self; anstext.tag = 102; anstext.scrollEnabled = YES; anstext.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; anstext.editable = NO; [cell addSubview:anstext]; } else { UIImageView* imag = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 40)]; imag.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"answ.png"]; [cell.contentView addSubview:imag]; onlyques = [[UITextView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 0, 300, 35)]; onlyques.backgroundColor= [UIColor clearColor]; [onlyques setScrollEnabled:YES]; onlyques.delegate = self; onlyques.tag = 103; onlyques.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; onlyques.editable = NO; onlyques.scrollEnabled = YES; [cell addSubview:onlyques]; } } questext = (UITextView*)[cell viewWithTag:101]; questext.text = que; anstext = (UITextView*)[cell viewWithTag:102]; anstext.text = ans; onlyques = (UITextView*)[cell viewWithTag:103]; onlyques.text = que; return cell; } But image is not appearing properly. As I scroll up and down the table view ,images get changes automatically. Please look upon my code and help me in finding the error. second image is when I scroll up and down the table view and first image is in the starting. please help me. if any one knows how to load different images to uitableview cell. thanks in advance.

  • Unit Testing Model Classes that derive from NSManagedObject

    - by Matt Baker
So...I'm trying to get unit tests set up in my iPhone App but I'm having some issues. I'm trying to test my model classes but they inherit directly from NSManagedObject. I'm sure this is a problem but I don't know how to get around it. Everything is building and running as expected but I get this error when calling any method on the class I'm testing: Unknown.m:0:0 unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xc2b120 If I follow this structure (http://chanson.livejournal.com/115621.html) to create my object in my tests I end up with another error entirely but it still doesn't help me. Basically my question is this: how can I test a class that inherits from NSManagedObject?

  • Returning NSNull from actionForLayer:forKey

    - by MrHen
If I implement the CALayer delegate method actionForLayer:forKey I can return [NSNull null] to force the CALayer to not animate any changes. Unfortunately, [NSNull null] doesn't implement the CAAction delegate and XCode kicks out the following warning: warning: class 'NSNull' does not implement the 'CAAction' protocol Here is the method code: - (id<CAAction>)actionForLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer forKey:(NSString *)theKey { //This disables the animations when moving things around //Also, don't animate the selection box. It was doing weird things if(undoGroupStarted || theLayer == self.selectionBox) { return [NSNull null]; } else { return nil; } } Am I doing something wrong? Is returning [NSNull null] bad behavior? If so, what is another way to do what I am trying to do here? If not, how do I make the compiler happy?

  • Distinct Value Array for View Controller Index Using Core Data

    - by b.dot
    Hi, I'm trying to create an index representing the first letter value of each record in a Core Data store to be used in a table view controller. I'm using a snippet of the code from Apple's documentation. I would simply like to produce an array or dictionary of distinct values as the result. My store already has the character defined within each record object. Questions: 1) I'm having a problem understanding NSDictionaryResultType. Where does the resulting dictionary object get received so that I can assign it's keys to the view controller? The code seems to only return an array. 2) If I include the line containing NSDictionaryResultType, I get no returns. 3) I realize that I could do this in a loop, but I'm hoping this will work. Thanks! NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"People" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setResultType:NSDictionaryResultType]; // This line causes no no results. [request setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [request setPropertiesToFetch :[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"alphabetIndex"]]; NSError *error; NSArray *objects = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error];

  • map view inside table view cell

    - by kudorgyozo
Hello, i have another (probably unanswered) question about map views. I have a map view inside a table view cell and i want to disable the table view scrolling if the scrolling begins in the map view. Also the zooming gesture does not function normally. It only functions if the zooming gesture is done horizontally on the iphone display. The same thing happens with swiping gestures. It only affects the map if i swipe the map area horizontally. If i swipe vertically the table view scrolls instead, and i want to disable that. Any ides how to do it?

  • NSDictionary: Two keys per value?

    - by Derek
I would like to create an NSDictionary (or something similar) that has two keys per value. It will be for English/Spanish word look-up, where: each value is an array containing all the conjugated verbs in English AND Spanish. each (two) keys contains both an English infinitive (e.g. "to be", "to go") and a Spanish infinitive This way, I can look a word up regardless of language based on the values having two keys per value. Here's an example: keys: "to want" or "querer" values: ["want", "want", "wants", "want", "want", "quiero", "quieres", "quiere", "queremos", "quieren"]

  • Fetch Data using predicate. Retrieve single value.

    - by Mr. McPepperNuts
XYZAppDelegate *appDelegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext = appDelegate.managedObjectContext; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name == %@", entryToSearchFor]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Entry" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"name" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [request setEntity: entity]; [request setPredicate: predicate]; NSArray *results = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:nil]; if (results == nil) { NSLog(@"No results found"); }else { NSLog(@"entryToSearchFor %@", entryToSearchFor); NSLog(@"results %@", [results objectAtIndex:0]); } I want to retrieve a single value (String) from "Entry." • Filter entire NSDictionaries out of NSArray based on multiple keys

    - by user270475
Hi, I have an NSArray of NSDictionary objects which I would like to be able to return a new array of NSDictionaries from, where every NSDictionary has "Area == North" (for example). The closest example I have found so far is http://stackoverflow.com/questions/958622/using-nspredicate-to-filter-an-nsarray-based-on-nsdictionary-keys but this just returns the unique values for a given key, not the dictionary that has that key. Is there any way to perform a similar operation, and to return the entire dictionary?
