  • Issue with android tablayout switch tab

    - by user330915
I am a new android developer, just tried something with Android Tablayout. There are two tabs and one tab has a GridView and the other one has a DatePicker. I created an activity and layout for each tab. The problem is that when I switch to the gridView, the background is not refreshed, and the images are just drawn over the DatePicker, so through images, the DatePicker still can be seen. It really bothers me. What should I do to have a clean background for imageView? Steve

  • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

    - by Carter
My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it? Recently updated documentation on Apple dev site... http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#featuredarticles/iPhoneURLScheme_Reference/Articles/MapLinks.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40007894-SW1 Both these links go to the same place http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York http://maps.apple.com/maps?q=New+York

  • App Engine SDK Console Not Fully Updated on OSX for GAE Release 1.3.4

    - by ryan
I downloaded and am running the latest SDK (in About GoogleAppleEngineLauncher, I see it is version 1.3.4.794), but when I open the SDK Console and go to the Task Queue section, I still see "Tasks will not run automatically. Select a queue to run tasks manually." I have not added the flag --disable_task_running, so I'm confused as to why it is still manual for me.

  • Pagination in Google App Engine with Java

    - by newbie
I need to create simple pagination of objects, but when I read manual I found out that query.setRange(5, 10); will fetch 10 objects, even when only 5 objects are needed. Is there anyway to fetch just needed objects? EDIT: I started bounty, so fi you can show me simple example code in Java that works, then I will accept you answer.

  • Google App Engine: Update model definitons?

    - by Rosarch
I recently updated one of my models by adding a db.ListProperty(): class DependencyArcTail(db.Model): courses = db.ListProperty(db.Key) ''' newly added ''' forwardLinks = db.ListProperty(db.Key) However, I can't seem to get this to be reflected in the SDK dashboard. I cleared the datastore and reloaded it. Then I ran the procedures that create the DependencyArcTail objects. However, forwardLinks still doesn't show up as an attribute in the SDK dashboard. What's happening?

  • How to Implement chat application for Android?

I am working on a chat application for android. This chat application is for sending messages from one device to another using internet(GPRS,3G,etc) from this application. please tell me a way to implement this. I thought using web services is more data(internet) consuming and less efficient.is this right? I worked on server and client sockets. I ran both server and client classes in single device and messages can be transfered from client socket to server socket and vice versa. Now i want to message between two devices using server socket on web server and how to connect to server from Android Devices. please help me thank you very much.

  • Detect if an app was uninstalled

    - by mobilekid
Is there a way to get a system notification when an app has been uninstalled? I would like to maintain a table of all clients' info currently using my app. However, that seems impossible if there is no way to detect this event. The first solution I can think of is to have an always running service in the background listening for android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED. But then would that service be killed once the uninstallation process has ended, or would it be stopped just before the process has kicked off? Also even if this is a solution it's has the potential to put off a lot of people when they realise that part of the app is running in the background. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Add Words to Android's UserDictionary

    - by SaulBack
I want to add an entire medical dictionary to my android (Moto Droid). I would like to be able to send text messages and have the medical words be in the predictable text. I've been trying to write a small app that would accomplish this, but everything I try the app crashes on startup. I've never written an app for a mobile platform so that is a first for me. Here is what is not working properly. public class WordAdd extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); UserDictionary.Words.addWord( this , "newMedicalWord", 1, UserDictionary.Words.LOCALE_TYPE_CURRENT); } } It seems so simple to do, yet I am so stuck. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • google app engine db.Model in python only display user-defined fields

    - by MattM
I'm a python newbie so I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before. I am building out an application in GAE and need to generate a report that contains the values for a user-defined subset of fields. For example, in my db model, CrashReport, I have the following fields: entry_type entry_date instance_id build_id crash_text machine_info I present a user with the above list as a checkbox group from which they select. Whichever fields the user selects, I then create a report showing all the values in the datastore, but only for the fields that they selected. For example, if from the above list, the user selects the build_id and crash_text fields, the output might look like this: build_id crash_text 0.8.2 blown gasket 0.8.2 boom! 0.8.1 crack! ... So the question is, how exactly do I only access the values for the fields which the user has defined?

  • Understanding configuration for parallel calling in web app (IIS + MS SQL)

    - by mmcteam.com.ua
We have an ASP.NET MVC application + IIS 7.5 + SQL Server 2008 R2. We have to load a lot of aggregate counters on the each page. We decided to use ajax and call with javascript for each counter or groups of counters and return them as JSON result. We solve the problem that user doesn't wait for page loading, page loads fast. User waits for counters loading while seeing other page content. But we thought that if we make calls from javascript - our queries will be make async, but we notice, that it is not. All our javascipt calls runs immediately, but action that they invoke are in queue. If we use Async Controller ability - all counters calculating simultaneously, but user has to wait for the longest counter calculating before page loads. The question: We want to understand what is happens if we use ajax and call two or more actions simultaneously. And how can we configuring this. (also in each action we make some queries to sql server)

  • Is there a global inbox for android?

    - by Loony2nz
I'm a Blackberry fan and I have been aching to get a phone with a better UI (and not the jesusPhone). I was looking at the Android platform and find it quite fun to play with. However, one of the crucial elements of my BB that I love to death is the global inbox of all my email accounts. (not to mention the BB messenger, but I can live without that). Is there an addon or does the android have this feature natively? I played with my friend's Verizon Droid, and she couldn't tell me. Thanks!

  • StringListProperty limited to 500 char strings (Google App Engine / Python)

    - by MarcoB
It seems that StringListProperty can only contain strings up to 500 chars each, just like StringProperty... Is there a way to store longer strings than that? I don't need them to be indexed or anything. What I would need would be something like a "TextListProperty", where each string in the list can be any length and not limited to 500 chars. Can I create a property like that? Or can you experts suggest a different approach? Perhaps I should use a plain list and pickle/unpickle it in a Blob field, or something like that? I'm a bit new to Python and GAE and I would greatly appreciate some pointers instead of spending days on trial and error...thanks!

  • Is there a work around for setAppCacheEnabled on WebView for an Android 2.1 application causing the

    - by Kevin
We have an HTML 5.0 web application that we ported to Android. It's our intention to run this in a Native Wrapper. Our application uses the ApplicationCache to run offline. This works find when running under the browser. While being hosted in a WebView within a native application, after the last file is downloaded and stored in the ApplicationCache from the manifest the application is terminated and does a core dump. This appears to be a documented bug. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7939 Has anyone doing anything similar found a work around for this issue?

  • Android: Referring to a string resource when defining a log name

    - by spookypeanut
In my Android app, I want to use a single variable for the log name in multiple files. At the moment, I'm specifying it separately in each file, e.g. public final String LOG_NAME = "LogName"; Log.d(LOG_NAME, "Logged output); I've tried this: public final String LOG_NAME = (String) getText(R.string.app_name_nospaces); And while this works in generally most of my files, Eclipse complains about one of them: The method getText(int) is undefined for the type DatabaseManager I've made sure I'm definitely importing android.content.Context in that file. If I tell it exactly where to find getText: Multiple markers at this line - Cannot make a static reference to the non-static method getText(int) from the type Context - The method getText(int) is undefined for the type DatabaseManager I'm sure I've committed a glaringly obvious n00b error, but I just can't see it! Thanks for all help: if any other code snippets would help, let me know.

  • Android API Target Level 5 and 6 for Ubuntu

    - by Sebi
Today i installed Ubuntu 10.4 and Eclipse Galileo. Then I downloaded the Android SDK and tried to install all packages via the Android SDK Tools. But unfortunately, only the Target Levels 3, 4, 7 and 8 were available. API Level 5 and 6 are missing. Does anybody know the reason for this? I already did a Google search and there seems to be nobody with the same problem. I also tried to restart it and nothing happens, the API Levels are still missing.
