  • Javascript getElementsByTagName broken firefox?

    - by Sheldon Ross
    I'm getting the weirdest issues with Javascript in Firefox today. I'm trying to manipulate some table rows, but .getElementsByTagName("tr"); is pulling back junk. dynamicTable.tableBody = dynamicTable.getElementsByTagName("tbody")[0]; var tableRows = dynamicTable.tableBody.getElementsByTagName("TR"); var actualTableRows = new Array(); for(var i in tableRows) { var row = tableRows[i]; alert(row.tagName); if(row.tagName == "TR"){ actualTableRows.push(row); } } dynamicTable.bodyRows = actualTableRows; The puzzling part of course is my temporary hack to fix the error. For some reason .getElementsByTagName("tr") is pulling back some functions also. Incidently the alert above goes something like this TR TR TR TR undefined undefined undefined. The code I wanted was something like this dynamicTable.bodyRows = dynamicTable.tableBody.getElementsByTagName("tr"); But then bodyrows does not contain just tr elements it has the aforementioned junk in it. Any thoughts?

  • Entity Framework foreign relationship issue

    - by Doug Hope
    I've had an entity framework model working for some time. Yesterday, it suddenly started complaining about a foreign key relationship issue during an insert. I've checked the fields and can do a manual insert using the exact field values. But the EF continues to complain. Any ideas what could have happened?

  • form not identifying the new input fields generated through a javascript

    - by tibin mathew
    Hi, I am developing a site in php. i have some issues with my form i have to more than one software packages at a time. so i have used javascript to append file and a dropdown to my html. i have called ajs function to add the new input fields each time when i click a link. and its displaying correctly. but its not identifying in my action page. i cant take the value of new input fields which i have created through that javascript function. below is the code page which i have used. function addInput(divName){ var newsel= document.createElement('div'); newsel.innerHTML="Operating System: --Select OS--    bc_linux    Linux   Solaris   2000/XP/Vista   XP/Vista   2K/XP/Vista/W7   HP   Windows 2000/XP/Vista zip   Windows 2000/XP/Vista exe   X Server - 2.2M   Fonts - 32.9M"; document.getElementById(divName).appendChild(newsel); var newdiv = document.createElement('div'); newdiv.innerHTML = "Upload Software File: "; document.getElementById(divName).appendChild(newdiv); } <form action="act-add-software.php" method="post" onSubmit="return validate(this);" enctype="multipart/form-data">  Operating System:  Operating System: <select name="frm_os" class="text_area" style="width:200px"> <option value="">--Select OS--</option> <optgroup label="Spind Enabled"> </optgroup> <option value="bc_linux">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;bc_linux</option> <optgroup label="Packages"> </optgroup> <option value="Linux">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Linux</option> <option value="Solaris">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Solaris</option> <option value="2000/XP/Vista">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;2000/XP/Vista</option> <option value="XP/Vista">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;XP/Vista</option> <option value="2K/XP/Vista/W7">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;2K/XP/Vista/W7</option> <option value="HP">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;HP</option> <option value="Windows 2000/XP/Vista zip">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Windows 2000/XP/Vista zip</option> <option value="Windows 2000/XP/Vista exe">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Windows 2000/XP/Vista exe</option> <option value="X Server - 2.2M">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;X Server - 2.2M</option> <option value="Fonts - 32.9M">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Fonts - 32.9M</option> </select> <a onClick="addInput('dynamicInput');">Add More Package</a> </td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr align="center" valign="middle" class="tbl_row1"> <td height="25" align="left" class="font1" width="156" bgcolor="White"><div align="right"> <?if(strstr($frm_server_side_error,'frm_software')){?> <font class="error"><b> <font color="#dd0000">*</font>&nbsp;Upload Software File: </font> <?}else{?> <font class="form_element"> <font color="#dd0000">*</font>&nbsp;Upload Software File: <?}?> </div> </B> </td> <td class="font1" bgcolor="White" align="center" style="padding-left:2px;"><input type="file" name="frm_image[]" class="text_area"> </td> <?if($frm_sfile !=""){?> <td class="font1" bgcolor="White" align="center"></td> <?}else{?> <td class="font1" bgcolor="White" align="center">&nbsp;(Current File: NOT Uploaded Yet) </td> <?}?> </tr> </table></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <div id="dynamicInput"> </div> </td> </tr> <?   • CSS overflow detection in JavaScript

    - by ring0
    In order to display a line of text (like in a forum), and end that line with "..." if the text would overflow the line (not truncating using the CSS overflow property), there are a number of ways. I'm still seeking the best solution. For instance, Adding in CSS a "..." as a background-image is a possibility, but it would appear all the time, and this is not a good solution. Some sites just count the characters and if over - say - 100, truncates the string to keep only 100 (or 97) chars and add a "..." at the end. But fonts are usually not proportional, so the result is not pretty. For instance the space - in pixels - taken by "AAA" and "iii" is clearly different "AAA" and "iii" via a proportional font have the same width There is another idea to get the exact size in pixels of the string: create in Javascript a DIV insert the text in it (via innerHTML for instance) measure the width (via .offsetWidth) which is not implemented yet. However, I wonder if there could be any browser compatibility problem? Did any one tried this solution? Other recommendations would be welcome.

  • PHP with Javascript: Email confirmation script not working

    - by Josh K
    Hey Heres what i got: echo "<script type=\"text/javascript\"> function finishForm() { var answer = confirm('Are you sure these are the teams you want to enter with?'); if (answer) { if(document.getElementByID(emailconfirm).value == ".$_SESSION[Email].") { form.action=\"esubmit.php\"; form.submit(); } else { alert('E-mail address do not match'); return false; } } } function restartForm() { var answer = confirm('Are you sure you want to start over?'); if (answer) { form.action=\"e1.php\"; form.submit(); } } </script>"; I have a regular button calling this function. emailconfirm is a text input. I want to confirm that they have chosen the right teams, then check if the email in the session and the email confirmation text match. If they do match Then i want to submit the form. If they dont match, I want to alert the user they dont match, and just return to page so user can check emails and then resubmit. This script is in my header. EDIT: Haha sorry i submitted one before and it didnt go through, forgot to add my problem!! When you click the button it comes up with the confirmation, clicking either yes or no doesnt do anything. The alert doesnt pop up if they dont match and if they do match it doesnt submit. Also it might be good to note I had it without the email confirmation if statement and it worked fine (going to the submit page)

  • Javascript timezone solution needed(taking into account the actual difference in UTC timestamps)

    - by user198729
    I have unix timestamps from time zone X which is not known, the current timestamp(now()) in TZ X is known 1275143019, how to approach a javascript function so that it can generate the datetime in the users current TZ in the format 2010-05-29 15:32:35 ? UPDATE I'm not a unix timestamp expert,if unix timestamp is always the same in different TZ, then I have to change the question a little,so that the current datetime in TZ X is known(like 2010-05-29 22:32:28),and the other datetime is also in this format,how to convert them to the user's TZ based on the difference between now() ? UPDATE Something strange from MySQL: On server: mysql> select now(); +---------------------+ | now() | +---------------------+ | 2010-05-29 18:34:30 | +---------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) mysql> select UNIX_TIMESTAMP(); +------------------+ | UNIX_TIMESTAMP() | +------------------+ | 1275143674 | +------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) On local: mysql> select now(); +---------------------+ | now() | +---------------------+ | 2010-05-29 22:41:30 | +---------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) mysql> select UNIX_TIMESTAMP(); +------------------+ | UNIX_TIMESTAMP() | +------------------+ | 1275144091 | +------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) Why the difference between now() (2010-05-29 22:41:30-2010-05-29 18:34:30=6hours) and UNIX_TIMESTAMP() (1275144091 - 1275143674 = 417seconds) is not the same ?

  • Stuggling with webkit-transition in javascript

    - by Mungbeans
    I've tried a few variations of using webkit-transition that I've found from googling but I've not been able to get any to work. I have some audio controls that I make appear on a click event, they appear suddenly and jerky so I want to fade them in. The target browser is iOS so I am trying webkit extensions. This is what I currently have: <div id = "controls"> <audio id = "audio" controls></audio> </div> #controls { position:absolute; top: 35px; left:73px; height: 20px; width: 180px; display:none; } #audio { opacity:0.0; } audio.src = clip; audio.addEventListener('pause', onPauseOrStop, false); audio.addEventListener('ended', onPauseOrStop, false); audio.play(); audioControls.style.display = 'block'; audio.style.setProperty("-webkit-transition", "opacity 0.4s"); audio.style.opacity = 0.7; The documentation for webkit-transition says it takes effect on a change in the property, so I was assuming changing style.opacity in the last line would kick it off. The controls appear with an opacity of 0.7 but I want it to fade in and that animation isn't happening. I also tried this: #audio { opacity:0.0; -webkit-transition-property: opacity; -webkit-transition-duration: 1s; -webkit-timing-function: ease-in; } Also tried audio.style.webkitTransition = "opacity 1.4s"; from this posting How to set CSS3 transition using javascript? I can't get anything to work, I'm testing on iOS, Safari desktop and Chrome. Same non result on all of them.

  • Gdata JavaScript Authsub continues redirect

    - by Krustal
    I am using the JavaScript Google Data API and having issues getting the AuthSub script to work correctly. This is my script currently: google.load('gdata', '1'); function getCookie(c_name){ if(document.cookie.length>0){ c_start=document.cookie.indexOf(c_name + "="); if(c_start!=-1){ c_start=c_start + c_name.length+1; c_end=document.cookie.indexOf(";",c_start); if(c_end==-1) c_end=document.cookie.length; return unescape(document.cookie.substring(c_start, c_end)); } } return ""; } function main(){ var scope = 'http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/'; if(!google.accounts.user.checkLogin(scope)){ google.accounts.user.login(); } else { /* * Retrieve all calendars */ // Create the calendar service object var calendarService = new google.gdata.calendar.CalendarService('GoogleInc-jsguide-1.0'); // The default "allcalendars" feed is used to retrieve a list of all // calendars (primary, secondary and subscribed) of the logged-in user var feedUri = 'http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/default/allcalendars/full'; // The callback method that will be called when getAllCalendarsFeed() returns feed data var callback = function(result) { // Obtain the array of CalendarEntry var entries = result.feed.entry; //for (var i = 0; i < entries.length; i++) { var calendarEntry = entries[0]; var calendarTitle = calendarEntry.getTitle().getText(); alert('Calendar title = ' + calendarTitle); //} } // Error handler to be invoked when getAllCalendarsFeed() produces an error var handleError = function(error) { alert(error); } // Submit the request using the calendar service object calendarService.getAllCalendarsFeed(feedUri, callback, handleError); } } google.setOnLoadCallback(main); However when I run this the page redirects me to the authentication page. After I authenticate it send me back to my page and then quickly sends me back to the authenticate page again. I've included alerts to check if the token is being set and it doesn't seem to be working. Has anyone has this problem?

  • Mootools Javascript can't push to array

    - by nona
    I have an array set with the heights of each hidden div, but when I use it, the div instantly jumps down, rather than slowly sliding as when there is a literal number. EDIT: testing seems to reveal that it's a problem with the push method, as content_height.push(item.getElement('.moreInfo').offsetHeight);alert(content_height[i]);gives undefined, but alert(item.getElement('.moreInfo').offsetHeight); gives the correct values Javascript: window.addEvent('domready', function(){ var content_height = [];i=0; $$( '.bio_accordion' ).each(function(item){ i++; content_height.push( item.getElement('.moreInfo').offsetHeight); var thisSlider = new Fx.Slide( item.getElement( '.moreInfo' ), { mode: 'horizontal' } ); thisSlider.hide(); item.getElement('.moreInfo').set('tween').tween('height', '0px'); var morph = new Fx.Morph(item.getElement( '.divToggle' )); var selected = 0; item.getElement( '.divToggle' ).addEvents({ 'mouseenter': function(){ if(!selected) this.morph('.div_highlight'); }, 'mouseleave': function(){ if(!selected) { this.morph('.divToggle'); } }, 'click': function(){ if (!selected){ if (this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML == '+') this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML = '-'; else this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML = '+'; item.getElement('.moreInfo').set('tween', { duration: 1500, transition: Fx.Transitions.Bounce.easeOut }).tween('height', content_height[i]); //replacing this with '650' keeps it smooth selected = 1; thisSlider.slideIn(); } else{ if (this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML == '+') this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML = '-'; else this.getElement('.symbol').innerHTML = '+'; thisSlider.slideOut(); item.getElement('.moreInfo').set('tween', { duration: 1000, transition: Fx.Transitions.Bounce.easeOut }).tween('height', '0px'); selected = 0; } } }); } ); }); Why could this be? Thanks so much!

  • How to report progress of a JavaScript function?

    - by LambyPie
    I have a JavaScript function which is quite long and performs a number of tasks, I would like to report progress to the user by updating the contents of a SPAN element with a message as I go. I tried adding document.getElementById('spnProgress').innerText = ... statements throughout the function code. However, whilst the function is executing the UI will not update and so you only ever see the last message written to the SPAN which is not very helpful. My current solution is to break the task up into a number of functions, at the end of each I set the SPAN message and then "trigger" the next one with a window.setTimeout call with a very short delay (say 10ms). This yields control and allows the browser to repaint the SPAN with the updated message before starting the next step. However I find this very messy and difficult to follow the code, I'm thinking there must be a better way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any way to force the SPAN to repaint without having to leave the context of the function? Thanks

  • Javascript code works only when the page loads

    - by victor
    I have a page with a dropdown and two textboxes. The javascript code checks to make sure that if the dropdown says Appointment Made or Patient Scheduled, the appropriate text boxes will have dates in them. When the page loads and the drop down shows either of the two above, all works fine but when I change the drop down the script does not work. I have put an alert statament after the third line and do see that when I make a change to patient_status, the variable a gets updated but for some reason the script fails and does not prompt. For example if the page loads and Appointment Made is selected, the script will prompt, but if I change the drop down to Patient Scheduled, it will not prompt. Thank You. function calculate() { a= document.getElementById("EditRecordpatient_status").value; b= document.getElementById("EditRecordSurgery_Date").value; c= document.getElementById("EditRecordConsult_Date").value; alert(a); alert(b); alert(c); if (a=="Appointment Made" && c=="") { alert('You have scheduled a patient for consultation but the consult date is missing!'); return false; } else if (a=="Patient Scheduled" && b=="") { alert('You have scheduled a patient for surgery but the surgery date is missing!'); return false; } else { return true; } } document.getElementById("Mod0EditRecord").onclick=calculate;

  • opening a new page and passing a parameter to it with Javascript

    - by recipriversexclusion
    I have a JS function that processes XML I GET from a server to dynamically create a table as below // Generate table of services by parsing the returned XML service list. function convertServiceXmlDataToTable(xml) { var tbodyElem = document.getElementById("myTbody"); var trElem, tdElem; var j = 0; $(xml).find("Service").each(function() { trElem = tbodyElem.insertRow(tbodyElem.rows.length); trElem.className = "tr" + (j % 2); // first column -> service ID var serviceID = $(this).attr("service__id"); tdElem = trElem.insertCell(trElem.cells.length); tdElem.className = "col0"; tdElem.innerHTML = serviceID; // second column -> service name tdElem = trElem.insertCell(trElem.cells.length); tdElem.className = "col1"; tdElem.innerHTML = "<a href=javascript:showServiceInfo(" + serviceID + ")>" + $(this).find("name").text() + "</a>"; j++; }); // each service } where showServiceInfo retrieves more detailed information about each service from the server based on the serviceID and displays it in the same page as the services table. So far so good. But, it turns out that I have to display the detailed service information in another page rather than the same page as the table. I have creates a generic service_info.html with an empty layout template, but I don't understand how to pass serviceID to this new page so that it gets customized with the detailed service info. How can I do this? Or, is there a better way to handle these situations? Thanks!

  • Splitting data from MySQL using PHP & Javascript works in IE but not in FF

    - by MTSzabo
    I have the following JavaScript function on a page: function setFields(){ var menu = document.getElementById('EditLocation'); var itemDataArray = menu[menu.selectedIndex].value.split('|'); form.LocationShortName.value = itemDataArray[0]; form.LocationLongName.value = itemDataArray[1]; form.Phone.value = itemDataArray[2]; form.Address1.value = itemDataArray[3]; form.CityStateZip.value = itemDataArray[4]; form.MapLink.value = itemDataArray[5]; } Down on the Form, I have the following: <select class="input2" name="EditLocation" id="EditLocation" onchange = "setFields();"> <option value="-Add New-"<?php if($editlocation=='-Add New-'){echo(' selected="selected"');} ?>>-Add New-</option> <?php require_once('connection.php'); $connection = mysql_connect($hostname,$username,$password) or die (mysql_errno().": ".mysql_error()."<BR />"); mysql_select_db($database); $sql = "SELECT * FROM directions ORDER BY dirshortname"; $query = mysql_query($sql); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)) { echo('<option value="'.stripslashes($row['dirshortname']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirlongname']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirphone']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirstreet']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dircsz']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirmaplink']).'"'); if ($editlocation==stripslashes($row['dirshortname'])) { echo(' selected="selected"'); } echo('>'.stripslashes($row['dirshortname']).'</option>'); } ?> In essence, the PHP is supposed to pack the data elements pulled from MySQL into the OPTION VALUE portion of the SELECT box. Once the user selects a record, the JavaScript pulls the packed data apart and populates the other data elements on the FORM. It all works wonderfully in IE, but in FF the fields do not populate with data. The form is somewhat long, but I'll include it anyway for the sake of completeness. <form action="admin-dirs.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" style="margin:0px; padding:0px " id="form"> <table width="587" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">Select Location to Edit: </td> <td width="342"><select class="input2" name="EditLocation" id="EditLocation" onchange = "setFields();"> <option value="-Add New-"<?php if($editlocation=='-Add New-'){echo(' selected="selected"');} ?>>-Add New-</option> <?php require_once('connection.php'); $connection = mysql_connect($hostname,$username,$password) or die (mysql_errno().": ".mysql_error()."<BR />"); mysql_select_db($database); $sql = "SELECT * FROM directions ORDER BY dirshortname"; $query = mysql_query($sql); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)) { echo('<option value="'.stripslashes($row['dirshortname']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirlongname']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirphone']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirstreet']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dircsz']).'|'.stripslashes($row['dirmaplink']).'"'); if ($editlocation==stripslashes($row['dirshortname'])) { echo(' selected="selected"'); } echo('>'.stripslashes($row['dirshortname']).'</option>'); } ?> </select></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td colspan="2"><span class="main" style=" padding-left:12px; padding-right:12px; padding-top:6px"><br /> (Note: Leaving the Long Name blank will duplicate the Short Name.)</span></td> </tr> <?php if(!$errlocationshortname=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$errlocationshortname.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>Location Short Name: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="LocationShortName" id="LocationShortName" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$errlocationshortname==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($locationshortname); ?>" maxlength="50"></td> </tr> <?php if(!$errlocationlongname=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$errlocationlongname.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>Location Long Name: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="LocationLongName" id="LocationLongName" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$errlocationlongname==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($locationlongname); ?>" maxlength="50"></td> </tr> <?php if(!$erraddress=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$erraddress.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>Street Address: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="Address1" id="Address1" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$erraddress==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($address); ?>"></td> </tr> <?php if(!$errcsz=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$errcsz.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>City, State, Zip: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="CityStateZip" id="CityStateZip" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$errcsz==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($csz); ?>"></td> </tr> <?php if(!$errphone=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$errphone.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>Location Phone Number: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="Phone" id="Phone" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$errphone==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($phone); ?>" maxlength="20"></td> </tr> <?php if(!$errmaplink=='' ){echo(' <tr> <td width="60">&nbsp;</td> <td width="185">&nbsp;</td> <td width="342"><span class="redtxterror">'.$errmaplink.'</span></td> </tr>');} ?> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>Paste Link to Map: <span class="red_star">*</span> </td> <td><input name="MapLink" id="MapLink" type="text" class="input2<?php if(!$errmaplink==''){echo('r');} ?>" value="<?php echo($maplink); ?>" maxlength="125"></td> </tr> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td><div align="right" style="padding-right:25px"> <input type="hidden" id="action" name="action" value="submitform" /> <input type="submit" id="savenew" name="savenew" value="Save & New" /> <input type="submit" id="submit" name="submit" value="Save & Close" /> <?php if(!isset($_POST['action'])) {?> <input type="reset" id="reset" name="reset" value="Reset" /> <?php } ?> </div></td> </tr><tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td>&nbsp;</td> <td class="main_d"><div align="right" style="padding-right:25px">Your IP Address is Logged as: <?php echo($ip); ?></div></td> </tr> </table> </form>

  • Is this a good decorator pattern for javascript?

    - by Kucebe
    I need some simple objects that could become more complex later, with many different properties, so i thought to decorator pattern. I made this looking at Crockford's power constructor and object augmentation: //add property to object Object.prototype.addProperty = function(name, func){ for(propertyName in this){ if(propertyName == name){ throw new Error(propertyName + " is already defined"); } } this[name] = func; }; //constructor of base object var BaseConstructor = function(param){ var _privateVar = param; return{ getPrivateVar: function(){ return _privateVar; } }; }; //a simple decorator, adds one private attribute and one privileged method var simpleDecorator = function(obj, param){ var _privateVar = param; var privilegedMethod1 = function(){ return "privateVar of decorator is: " + _privateVar; }; obj.addProperty("privilegedMethod1", privilegedMethod1); return obj; } //a more complex decorator, adds public and private properties var complexDecorator = function(obj, param1, param2){ //private properties var _privateVar = param1; var _privateMethod = function(x){ for(var i=0; i<x; i++){ _privateVar += x; } return _privateVar; }; //public properties var publicVar = "I'm public"; obj.addProperty("publicVar", publicVar); var privilegedMethod2 = function(){ return _privateMethod(param2); }; obj.addProperty("privilegedMethod2", privilegedMethod2); var publicMethod = function(){ var temp = this.privilegedMethod2(); return "do something: " + temp + " - publicVar is: " + this.publicVar; }; obj.addProperty("publicMethod", publicMethod); return obj; } //new basic object var myObj = BaseConstructor("obj1"); //the basic object will be decorated var myObj = simpleDecorator(obj, "aParam"); //the basic object will be decorated with other properties var myObj = complexDecorator(obj, 2, 3); Is this a good way to have Decorator Pattern in javascript? Are there other better ways to do this?

  • Manually Trigger or Prevent Javascript Lazy Loading in Website from Bookmarklet

    - by stwhite
    One of the problems with using a bookmarklet for grabbing images on a page is that if a website uses lazy loading, the bookmarklet won't detect the image because it will have a placeholder, e.g. "grey.gif" and not the actual source of the image. Javascript on page load, is run to replace these urls. I'm looking for a solution to retrieve those images that are not being displayed by either triggering or preventing Lazy Loading from running. This bookmarklet isn't limited to one specific domain. So far some ideas I've had are: Ping the domain and retrieve the page html if no images are found the first time around: Problem: this then requires parsing the actual html. Problem: with lazy loading, a few images will always show, just none below the fold. Scroll page to initiate lazy loading when bookmarklet is clicked, then scroll back to top. Trigger Lazy Loading from inside bookmarklet using script. Lazy Loader adds the "original" attribute, potentially could check if attribute exists w/ value. Problem: ???

  • javascript to select text from web page

    - by phil swenson
    I'm trying to write a bookmarklet that grabs any selected text on a web page and sends it to my website. It should (hopefully) work in Chrome, FFX, Safari, and IE. I did a search and found a function, but it doesn't appear to work. Here is the code: <html> <body> <div onClick=getSelText()>Click</div> <div>please select me</div> </body> <script language=javascript> function getSelText(){ var txt = 'nothing'; if (window.getSelection){ txt = "1" + window.getSelection(); } else if (document.getSelection) { txt = "2" + document.getSelection(); } else if (document.selection) { txt = "3" + document.selection.createRange().text; } else return; alert("selected text = " + txt); } </script> </html> when I select the text in the div "please select me" and hit the click div, I just get "selected text = 1" thanks
