  • Visual Studio: What approach do you use to 'template' plumbing for similiar projects?

    When building ASP.NET projects there is a certain amount of boilerplate, or plumbing that needs to be done, which is often identical across projects. This is especially the case with MVC and ALT.NET approaches. [I'm thinking of things such as: IoC, ORM, Solution structure (projects), Session Management, User Management, I18n etc.] I would like to know what approach you find best for 'reusing' this plumbing accross projects? Have a 'master solution' which you duplicate and rename somehow? (I'm using a this to a degree at the moment, but it's fairly messy. Would be interested how people do this 'better') Mainly rely on Shared Library projects? (I find this appropriate for some things, but too restrictive for things that have to be customised) Code generation tools, such as T4? (Similar to the approach used by SharpArchitecture - have not tried this myself) Something else? Thanks for sharing your experiences!

    What tools are good to use for code analysis in python? I have a large source repository split across multiple projects, and I would like to be able to run tools across the directories to see details like Cyclomatic Complexity, and perhaps be able to spot errors using static analysis. Ideally, I would like to be able to produce a report about the health of the source code, so we can spot problem areas that need to be addressed.

  • Why is this code's execution speed so different?

    In Internet Explorer 7, this code executes consistently in 47 ms: function updateObjectValues() { $('.objects').html(12345678); // ~500 DIVs } however, this code executes consistently in 157 ms: function updateObjectValues() { $('.objects').html('12345678'); // ~500 DIVs } Passing a number is over 3x faster than a string. Why are these results so dramatically different? And, is there any way to help the performance of the string?

I discovered the following resource on maxmind: http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/api/php/timezone/ I suspect that I could use this with another api that provides the state that an area code belongs to.     I have a webservice that I want to call from the browser every few seconds to see if there are any notification messages in the database that should be displayed on the screen. We have the JSON code working to display the messages in a JavaScript function after an Async Postback, but this only executes after a page turn. I want it to execute every 10-15 seconds as well.     I have just tried to upload Mac app to app store. But Apple said just error. Invalid Code Signing Entitlements. Your application bundle's signature contains code signing entitlements that are not supported on MAC OS X. Specifically, key 'application-identifier' in '(My app name).app/Contents/MacOS/(My app name) is not supported. My XCode is 4.2 and I didn't check Enable Entitlements. Please help me!!!

I found this link that states where the source code is but I cannot find it in my platform builder installation - I expect this is because it isn't the Windows Automotive platform.
