  • sqlite issue using WHERE statement on a varchar field in Objective-C

    Hi, I have this sql statement SELECT * FROM Language WHERE LanguageCode=? where LanguageCode is a varchar(2). When I use sqlite3-prepare-v2 on that statement I got SQLITE_ERROR but if I use SELECT * FROM Language WHERE LanguageID=? where LanguageID is the primary key numeric identity field the statement compiles just fine. Is there any issue filtering by a varchar field using WHERE statement? Thanks

  • XCode copies blank database when doing build...

    I've noticed that even though I placed my sqlite3 database in the "resources" folder, and even though I checked the "Copy file" box, when I do a build, XCode creates an empty database toi the application folder it's building...so it's FINDING the database, and OPENING it, but there's nothing IN it, so when I do a sqlite3_prepare_v2, I get a SQLITE_ERROR... Help! What am I doing wrong?

  • /sbin/getty process causing 100% CPU utilization

    I have an instance of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.2.0-25-virtual i686) running as a KVM-VM on a host-machine that runs one more VM beside it. I deploy a Ruby on Rails application using the Capistrano deployment-gem. However, if I deploy twice in a row in a short time, the CPU usage jumps to 100% because of the /sbin/getty process. How can this be? I believe getty is a rather simple program that passes a login-name from a terminal to a login-process. Also: In my Capfile (Capistrano configuration file) I am running certain commands after the Rails application is deployed including a call to sudo /sbin/restart <APPNAME> which is an upstart task. Could this be related somehow? I can always kill the getty process and the problem is gone until the next deployment, but I would rather understand and fix the problem. Any help is appreciated. Attached is a screenshot of my problem.

    I'll be trying to sell my Ruby on Rails development skills to small local businesses. It seems I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I couldn't manage to put their apps into production, in fact catering for this would be a selling point. However, I do not want to bill every client monthly for the cost of their hosting, they would have to be the contract holders with the hosting service, and I'd only consult if they needed technical help when scaling. I've looked on one hand at cloud platforms, like engine yard, which seem like they would be too costly for the smaller clients, and on the other hand at vps providers which seem they would not be client friendly enough. Has anyone faced the same issue and come up with a decent solution ?

  • Why would I want to install node.js in my Rails Application?

    Okay guys, I'm super confused. I thought node.js was a sever side framwork, basically the js version of Ruby's Rails or PHP's Zend. However, I'm having some difficulty with turbolinks, and it seems to be the way to fix it is through installing node.js I mean, I don't understand this at all. How can two frameworks work together like this? Also, it's not a gem (that REALLY would have confused me), you have to install node.js it onto your local machine by running (in the case of Ubuntu) sudo apt-get install nodejs Firstly, how does this totally separate framwork have any bearing on rails? Secondly, surely this isn't fixing the problem forever? When you specify a gem in your gemfile, the server knows what external libraries to install. How does the server know to install nodejs?

    I plan to learn Ruby on Rails and would like to code in my development box which runs on Windows XP. I have Ubuntu Server (forgot the version ;p) running as my web server with Rails installed on it. I have been considering using Vim as my text editor of choice in XP but would like to know any text editor and accompanying shell/FTP/Putty/SSH (or whatever you may call it) program that can access those files in my Ubuntu server. It is better if the shell can be called or is bundled inside the text editor. I would like to know your combinations (text editor + shell) and your experiences on it when you were able to develop your Rails projects on that combination. Cheers!

    I want to be able to stream audio from another webpage through mine, but i do not know how to find the url for each audio file located on a separate webpage. It would also be extremely helpful to do everything in bulk so instead of writing a separate line of code for each audio file, simply writing a few lines of code to upload links to 100 audio files, etc. I am also using Ruby on Rails for my webpage. How do you find a file located on a separate webpage? Does anyone know, if possible how, to upload file links in bulk?

    My personal programming background is mainly in Java, with a little bit of Ruby, a tiny bit of Scheme, and most recently, due to some iOS development, Objective-C. In my move from Java to Objective-C I've really come to love some features that Objective-C has that Java doesn't. These include support for both static and dynamic typing, functional programming, and closures, which I'm trying to leverage in my code more often. Unfortunately there are trade-offs, including lack of support for generics and (on iOS at least) no garbage collection. These contrasts have lead me to start a search for some of the programming languages that support the following features: Object Oriented Functional Programming Support Closures Generics Support for both Static and Dynamic Typing Module Management to avoid classpath/dll hell Garbage Collection Available Decent IDE Support Admittedly some of these features(IDE support, Module Management) may not be specific to the language itself, but obviously influence the ease of development in the language.     I have a site created by Ruby on Rails. I had verified against Google Webmaster Tool some months ago, which was successful. One day webmaster starts giving me Re-verification fails. I tried again to verify my site using Meta tags and HTML files. But I kept having "Verification failed. The connection to your server timed out." Since then, Google stop crawling my site's content - though, somehow google still crawl my PDF contents on my site.

  • Website hosting and deployment

    I'm relatively new to Web Development especially when it comes to infrastructure. I have AngularJS application build and served by brunch.io locally. It uses rails-api JSON data. I'd like to deploy my angular application separately from rails server. For now, JS app is placde inside public directory of backend server and deployed together. It isn't elegant nor effective so I want to use some other hosting service. I was thinking about VPS where I could place both Angular and Ruby applications. I read about NodeJS or Nginx that can serve static files, but I don't have any knowledge or experience with these technologies. How is the best way to provide separate frontend and backend applications communicating with each other?
