• From .NET to Delphi, an ERP on Delphi

  I have learned programming on .NET. It's been 4 years since I have started (serious) programming, I gained experience in VBA, JavaScript but mainly C#. I have spent a lot of time trying to grasp the good coding practices, object orientation etc. Now finally I have a job. The job is fixing/upgrading an ERP on a daily basis. Creating reports and maybe sometimes new stuff. I have absolutely no experience in Delphi, and no motivation to learn it especially when people are moving to .NEt from Delphi not in the reverse direction sa my manager expects :) The question is that are there any tools that I write C# code and compile into this object pascal or whatever it is. I got this code from some old linux source that I'm trying to compile on Windows. Any idea what the issue is?

  Hi all, Is this statement true: com.sun.xml.internal package is an internal package as the name suggestes. Users should not write code that depends on internal JDK implementation classes. Such classes are internal implementation details of the JDK and subject to change without notice One of my colleagues used one of the classes in his code, which caused javac task in Ant fail to compile our project as the compiler couldn't find the class. Answer from Sun/Oracle says that this is expected behavior of the compiler as user shouldn't use the package. Question is why the classes in the package made public in the first place? Thanks, Sarah

  As the title suggests, I'm tyring to pass a variable data type to a template class. • How can I create different DLLs in one project?

  I have a question I don't know if it can be solved. I have one C# project on Visual Studio 2005 and I want to create different DLL names depending on a preprocessor constant. What I have in this moment is the preprocessor constant, two snk files and two assembly's guid. I also create two configurations (Debug and Debug Preprocessor) and they compile perfectly using the snk and guid appropiate. #if PREPROCESSOR_CONSTANT [assembly: AssemblyTitle("MyLibraryConstant")] [assembly: AssemblyProduct("MyLibraryConstant")] #else [assembly: AssemblyTitle("MyLibrary")] [assembly: AssemblyProduct("MyLibrary")] #endif Now, I have to put the two assemblies into the GAC. The first assembly is added without problems but the second isn't. What can I do to create two or more different assemblies from one Visual Studio project? It's possible that I forgot to include a new line on "AssemblyInfo.cs" to change the DLL name depending on the preprocessor constant?

It writes "variable tmpBrowser might not been initialized". If I comment the last line the compile does not complain.

• Monodevelop: "Are you missing an assembly reference?" despite reference being added

  I have a solution with 3 projects. Two of the projects compile fine: SparkleLib and SparkleLib.Cmis The third project (SparkleShare) depends on the two above, so I added them as references, but I get: The type or namespace name 'Cmis' does not exist in the namespace 'SparkleLib'. Are you missing an assembly reference? The error indicates that I should add SparkleLib.Cmis as a reference, but I already added it... I tried deleteting, re-adding, restarting, but no success. It is not a problem with my environment, as my fellow developers are having the same problem.

• Java compilers or JVM languages that support goto?

  Is there a java compiler flag that allows me to use goto as a valid construct? If not, are there any third-party java compilers that supports goto? If not, are there any other languages that support goto while at the same time can easily call methods written in Java? The reason is I'm making a language that is implemented in Java. Gotos are an important part of my language; I want to be able to compile it to native or JVM bytecode, although it has to be able to easily use Java libraries (ie. C supports goto, but to use it I'd have to rewrite the libraries in C). I want to generate C or Java, etc source files, and not bytecode or machine code. I'm using a third-party compiler to do that.

• How to obtain specific Excel object library without the corresponding Office version installed.

  I am developing a Excel automation app that read and write to Excel spreadsheet. I have Office 2007 installed on my machine. I therefore can reference the Excel 12.0 Object Library and the Excel 5.0 Object Library. I don't want to use Excel 5.0 because it's really quite old and poorly documented. Therefore I'm referencing Excel 12.0. However the target machine have Office 2003 installed and therefore only have Excel 11.0. So when I compile my program it crashes on the target machine since the referenced library are different. I was wondering is there a way I could obtain the Excel 11.0 without installing Office 03? I tried to find answers from msdn and microsoft support page but couldn't find anything? This is quite strange since it could also happen in the future where developers has newer editions of Office than clients?

• Hashing a python method to regenerate output when method is modified

  I have a python method that has a deterministic result. It takes a long time to run and generates a large output: def time_consuming_method(): # lots_of_computing_time to come up with the_result return the_result I modify time_consuming_method from time to time, but I would like to avoid having it run again while it's unchanged. [Time_consuming_method only depends on functions that are immutable for the purposes considered here; i.e. it might have functions from Python libraries but not from other pieces of my code that I'd change.] The solution that suggests itself to me is to cache the output and also cache some "hash" of the function. If the hash changes, the function will have been modified, and we have to re-generate the output. Is this possible or a ridiculous idea?   Can someone please explain in easy terms what is static library linking vs dynamic library linking other one has a larger memory map than the other or that the static library is used to compile/link with the program that will use it versus being loaded at runtime? I also need to create a static library of a program that I made in vs2008 and give one function interface to access the library. one of the requirements reads as such " * API should be in the form of static library. company xxx will link the library into a third party application to prevent any possible exposure of the code(dll)" how can they say both static and dll at the same time. I have never works with static library before. So please any help would be nice.

• Bulding an multi-platform SWT application using Ant

  I'm writing an SWT application which can be used on Windows (32/64 bit) and Mac OSX (32/64 bit). Apart from the JRE I rely on the SWT library found here. I can find four versions of the SWT library depending upon my target platforms (as mentioned above). When building my application, how can I compile using the correct SWT Jar? If possible, I'd like to try and avoid hard-coding the Jar version, platform and architecture. The SWT Jars are named like this: swt-win32-x86_64.jar swt-win32-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_64.jar (My project will be an open source project. I'd like people to be able to download the source and build it and therefore I've thought of including all the four versions of the SWT Jars in the source distribution. I hope this is the correct approach of publishing code relying on third-part libraries.) Thanks everyone.

• How do I decrease first load time in ASP.net MVC 2?

  I have an ASP.net MVC 2 application that runs well locally. However when I move the files to my production server, I get a first time lag of about 30 seconds, I assume this is a first compile. After that the application works fine. Then after about 20-30 minutes of non use, the applications takes another 30 seconds or so to load. I did try to precompile the code, but there is still a lag during the first load. Are there any trick to getting the application to work faster on the first load? I am using ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 , visual studio 2010, MVC 2. Thanks

  I'm referencing the NHibernate dll version 2.1.2-GA, and am unable to compile under Mono 2.8.1. I've tried using NHibernate 3 instead and it compiles fine. A simple example of the code that's failing is NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration cfg = new NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration(); and the error is Error CS0584: Internal compiler error: Could not load type 'NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration' from assembly 'NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4'. (CS0584) As mentioned it compiles with no problems using NHibernate 3, does anyone have any ideas how to get it working with NHiberate 2.1.2?

  I am trying to compile a library originally written for Cocoa. Things are good until it looks for the function marg_setValue(). It says there is a syntax error before char in marg_setValue(argumentList,argumentOffset,char,(char)lua_toboolean(state,luaArgument)); (it's talking about the third argument, not (char) ) I am trying to port LuaObjectiveCBridge to the iPhone. It has two choices, either using Runtime or Foundation. I have discovered there are some problems with foundation so I am trying runtime. But the compiler is not co-operating.

  As the question states, what exactly are the implications of having the 'implicit declaration of function' warning? We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected. • Sharing code between sqlite-net and servicestack ormlite?

  I am using sqlite-net to store data on my MonoDroid mobile application. I am wanting to sync this data with a server side service as well. Would it be possible to share the code for my Entity objects between sqlite-net and Servicestacks ormlite? The main difference between the two that I can see is declaring the "using namespace" statements at the top of the class for the object. Is it possible to detect the platform and set the using statements based on the platform? The other difference would be referencing the different dlls for servicestack so I suppose on the mobile app it would not compile if there are references to the servicestack namespaces... What would a good approach be to achieve sharing of this code?

• Referencing external classes

  My Android project references external classfiles that are not included in the in the Android SDK. I added those classes as an external library properly in eclipse. The code compiles with no problem. But as I try to run the application I get an ClassNotFoundException by the DalvikVM, although all the neccessary classes have been ported. Am I missing something? The steps I did. create new folder in eclipse android project. copy neccessary classes in this folder. add the folder to the classpath via eclipse. programm compile run as android application -- Exception
