  • Which program do you recommend for monitoring the list of installed programs in Windows?

    - by Nickolai Leschov
I am in charge of a computer network in a small company (20..30 computers). Recently the need arose to control what kinds of programs our company is using i.e. to collect information that is available when one opens "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows. I would like to have a program that will collect this kind of information over the network of Windows machines. What is your recommendation?

  • Grails 1.2.0 not finding plugins in the default repository.

    - by Padraic
I do not know what changed in my environment, but all of a sudden I can not pull any plugins from the default repository. I went through the _*.groovy scripts and nothing has changed in my grails home directory and it appears that the default repository url is set correctly (DEFAULT_PLUGIN_DIST = "http://plugins.grails.org"). I am assuming it is an environment setting that changed on me, because if I switch to an old version of grails that I have installed, 1.1.1 for example, list-plugins is returning a full list of plugins. When I run grails list-plugins in my current 1.2.0 environment I get the following output: Welcome to Grails 1.2.0 - http://grails.org/ Licensed under Apache Standard License 2.0 Grails home is set to: /opt/grails-1.2.0 Base Directory: /Users/padraic/Projects/TestApplicationMachine Resolving dependencies... Dependencies resolved in 1633ms. Running script /opt/grails-1.2.0/scripts/ListPlugins_.groovy Environment set to development Reading remote plugin list ... Plug-ins available in the core repository are listed below: hibernate <1.3.0.RC2 -- Hibernate for Grails tomcat <1.3.0.RC2 -- Apache Tomcat plugin for Grails webflow <1.3.0.RC2 -- Spring Web Flow Plugin Reading remote plugin list ... Plug-ins available in the default repository are listed below: spock <0.4-groovy-1.7-SNAPSHOT -- Spock Integration - spockframework.org Plug-ins you currently have installed are listed below: cloud-foundry 0.2 -- Cloud Foundry Plugin for Grails hibernate 1.2.0 -- Hibernate for Grails tomcat 1.2.0 -- Apache Tomcat plugin for Grails I find it very strange that it only finds the spock plugin. It makes me thing that either a)it is going to the wrong repository or b)my version setting is incorrect. Any ideas? Thanks, Padraic

  • Can I set a default domain for a Windows Authenticated website in IIS7?

    - by Michael Haren
I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter: User: domain\username Pass: SomePassword It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway. This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.

  • What is default javac source mode (assert as identifier compilation)?

    - by waste
According to Orcale's Java7 assert guide: source mode 1.3 (default) — the compiler accepts programs that use assert as an identifier, but issues warnings. In this mode, programs are not permitted to use the assert statement. source mode 1.4 — the compiler generates an error message if the program uses assert as an identifier. In this mode, programs are permitted to use the assert statement. I wrote such class: package mm; public class ClassTest { public static void main(String[] arg) { int assert = 1; System.out.println(assert); } } It should compile fine if Oracle's info right (1.3 is default source mode). But I got errors like this: $ javac -version javac 1.7.0_04 $ javac -d bin src/mm/* src\mm\ClassTest.java:5: error: as of release 1.4, 'assert' is a keyword, and may not be used as an identifier int assert = 1; ^ (use -source 1.3 or lower to use 'assert' as an identifier) src\mm\ClassTest.java:6: error: as of release 1.4, 'assert' is a keyword, and may not be used as an identifier System.out.println(assert); ^ (use -source 1.3 or lower to use 'assert' as an identifier) 2 errors I added manually -source 1.3 and it issued warnings but compiled fine. It seems that Oracle's information is wrong and 1.3 is not default source mode. Which one is it then?

  • I'm trying to grasp the concept of creating a program that uses a MS SQL database, but I'm used to r

    - by Sergio Tapia
How can I make a program use a MS SQL server, and have that program work on whatever computer it's installed on. If you've been following my string of questions today, you'd know that I'm making an open source and free Help Desk suite for small and medium businesses. The client application. The client application is a Windows Forms app. On installation and first launch on every client machine, it'll ask for the address of the main Help Desk server. The server. Here I plan to handle all incoming help requests, show them to the IT guys, and provide WCF services for the Client application to consume. My dilemma lies in that, I know how to make the program run on my local machine; but I'm really stumped on how to make this work for everyone who wants to download and install the server bit on their Windows Server. Would I have to make an SQL Script and have it run on the MS SQL server when a user wants to install the 'server' application? Many thanks to all for your valuable time and effort to teach me. It's really really appreciated. :)

  • What program will monitor the chords I'm playing through my MIDI keyboard live?

    - by Jasper
Leaving Cubase 5 out of the picture, when I use Reason 4.0 to compose something, I need a program running that will monitor the chords I'm pressing WHILE I'm pressing them. See, I'm a new keyboardist, and a thing like this will improve my accuracy by 100%. At one point, I'll stop needing such programs even, but for now, I'd REALLY like to have something of that sort. Free or commercial suggestions.

  • Change the default browser which Kopete opens when you click a link?

    - by HorusKol
I have FireFox as my desktop's default browser (Ubuntu/Gnome 9.10) and most applications open links into FF readily enough, including Choqok (a KDE twitter client). But Kopete insists on opening Konqueror - which is annoying as it takes an age to load, while FF is almost always open an simply needs a new tab. I've checked though the preferences of Kopete, and can't seem to find anything to make it use FF.

  • What are the default/best bluetooth packages for Ubuntu 9.10?

    - by Igoru
I've had some problems with Bluetooth in my Ubuntu 9.10, and ended up by uninstalling everything related. I would like to know what are the default packages for BTH in Ubuntu, and what are your recommendations (like blueman or thing like this). I have a high-end cellphone and would like to use everything that's possible, talking about bluetooth, with it (a samsung scrapy touch, or GT-B3410).

  • Can I disable comments by default on my YouTube videos?

    - by Philip Durbin
Comments are unfortunately always automatically enabled when I upload a video to YouTube either via their website or iPhoto, but more often that not I later manually disable comments for each uploaded video by following the steps from the "comments on my videos" section of YouTube Help. I would much rather have comments automatically disabled, that is to say, disabled by default, for all of my uploaded videos. Is this possible? I couldn't find a setting for it.

Please don't get distracted about the PDF part - I just need to know how to find the font wherever Adobe installs it when I install Illustrator (CS5). TIA!

  • Is there a program that can colourize the output of any linux command?

    - by BeeBand
Or would I have to write my own? What's the best language for building a tool of this kind? I'm kind of new to linux, but I'm guessing that you could pass the output of a program to a particular script and have it display it in various colours, based on some regular expressions (constructed from some kind of config file perhaps). Or has it been done already...?

  • Default Search provider in Internet Explorer 8 Via GP?

    - by Bump
Does anyone know how to change the default search provider in IE8 Via Group Policy? IE7 seemed to work okay but once I rolled out the IE8 browser update via WSUS, it defaults back to Bing search on all clients which is done Via group policy. I have found some people making custom adm templates to change this behavior on Google but I cannot get a strait forward answer.
