• WinXp display driver incorrect to boot iso ubuntu 12.04

  I have Windows Xp on a HP Pavilion w/AMD Athlon 64 processor 3300+. I have downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 iso desktop. When trying to run Ubuntu, I get a line that says "sis 630 buss not detected. It continues and makes a blue screen, then says low graphics mode only and has a white screen. The HP has display adaptor sis 760, driver= 6.14.10.3671, 4/20/2005. I'm not familiar with ubuntu because I've never got it started as yet. Can the Ubuntu install process be changed to accept my sis 760 driver? I'm trying to make a Live CD(dvd) to run Ubuntu.

• On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

  Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! Does anyone know my best solution to progress to having this feature on my website, any tutorials or free to use, free to modify web plugins? Thank you for your help, Best Regards, Tim

• AdventueWorks Design Patterns Project - Part 1

  This is the presentation I did tonight at PHILLYNJ.NET.  It is the first in a multi-part of a series on the Applied Design Patterns.   The solution files are working code with design pattern notes in the comment blocks. After the overview and higher level discussions on Enterprise Design Patterns I reviewed the low level Database Access Library of code.  With walk-throughs of the the code and unint test. After that we went through the ProductPhotoConsoleTest Application that performed intergration testing of the DBAccess Class with the AdventureWorks ProductPhoto table extracting the photos and writing them to a file folder. • How can I link to callback functions in Lua such that the callbacks will be updated when the scripts are reloaded?

  I'm implementing Lua scripting in my game using LuaBind, and one of the things I'm not clear on is the logistics of reloading the scripts live ingame. Currently, using the LuaBind C++ class luabind::object, I save references to Lua callbacks directly in the classes that use them. Then I can use luabind::call_function using that object in order to call the Lua code from the C++ code. I haven't tested this yet, but my assumption is that if I reload the scripts, then all the functions will be redefined, BUT the references to the OLD functions will still exist in the form of the luabind::object held by the C++ code. I would like to be able to swap out the old for the new without manually having to manage this for every script hook in the game. How best to change this so the process works? My first thought is to not save a reference to the function directly, but maybe save the function name instead, and grab the function by name every time we want to call it. I'm looking for better ideas!

I want to work in companies that are open, innovative, and make a good contribution to the world of computer science. For example, Dropbox looks like a very fun company and its existence is very important. How do I spot this in job advertisements? EDIT: I should note that I live in Australia, so many of the fun companies that I know does not have any office here. I know only a handful of fun companies in Australia – including Google in Sydney. But I don't know that many.

• Cannot boot from Ubuntu USB

  I create a ubuntu 10.10 bootable USB via the method that is described on the download page of ubuntu. I made that from windows and also from ubuntu 10.04 (I have dual boot). When I boot from the USB made, the menu shows and when I run it, it gives a beep and nothing else. It never boots. USB creation from both methods result the same. I downloaded ubuntu via the torrent provided from Ubuntu. Any help will be very appreciated. I want to make my USB just like a Live CD so that I can run it on some other computers also.

• Chromium and Google Chrome downloading

  Well, I have sincerely enjoyed having Google Chrome on my linux machine, and have never had any problems until recently. I found that Google Chrome will simply not allow redirected downloads to start. I can download from direct links, but not pages that redirect and "Start in 3 seconds..." I immediately assumed it was the webpage itself, so I refreshed many times. I then restarted the browser, and after another failed attempt, my computer. After that point, I suspected my internet provider was to blame. I tried the redirection link in an alternative browser (Midori), and it worked perfectly fine. I decided it must be the version of Chrome that Google put out, so I quickly installed Chromium, and to my dismay, ran across the same problem. I can live with copying and pasting the url into Midori for redirected links, but I'd like the convenience of staying in my main browser. Thank you for any advice in advance. c:

• Trick Ubuntu into resolving a domain name locally

  I have an Ubuntu box that I use for all sorts of things. One thing I really want to do is redirect a sub domain to a local script. For example thisbit.example.com should actually show the content from localhost/~USER/FAKE.thisbit.example.com/ which is a folder that Apache is running for me which contains a very simple PHP script which implements an offline version of a server script that I am testing against. But example.com should continue to behave normally as should notthisbit.example.com etc. Ideally I need to be able to switch from testing to live with minimal fuss when the time comes.

• Grub not showing installed kernels

  Although I have several kernel versions in /boot and having them in my grub.cfg, they are not displayed in the grub boot menu. Running update-grub seems to work, as it puts the kernels in the grub.cfg in /boot/grub. Issueing it gives the following output: Generating grub.cfg ... cat: /boot/grub/video.lst: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-31-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-31-generic /usr/sbin/grub-probe: Fehler: no such disk. /usr/sbin/grub-probe: Fehler: no such disk. • Blackscreen while installing 12.10

  everytime I try to install ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop i get a blackscreen after clicking on "install ubuntu", "try ubuntu without installation" or "ubuntu live" i tried it with nomodeset, nolapic and acpi=off too but nothing works. Sometimes i even get so a loading screen with nothing but "Ubuntu 12.10" and 4 dots in the middle, after that shortly a blackscreen appears with some text on it and then the complete blackscreen appears. As i tried with "no splash" instead of "quiet splash" it shows me something with graphic and determined in it but it was to fast away in a blackscreen to remember. Has someone any idea what I can do to get this working? Sry for my bad english i'm actually from germany. Sincerely Nalelvon

• Laptop won't get to grub after meddling with kernels

Well, all is hunky dory until you consider that browsers don’t have concepts such as process isolation, encryption, obfuscation etc.. Stuff that we are so used to in operating systems that we don’t even think about it. Browsers have JavaScript, and broken HTML5 – it is not secure!
