  • iPhone + Android App to view Blog

    - by Pratik
What would be the best way to write an app for the iPhone OS and the Android OS that allows access to a web blog (posted on blogspot.com)? Are there ways to manipulate the incoming data from the website to fit the UI of the phones, or will I have to re-do a lot of the blogs? Any help would be nice! And thank you in advance!

  • How to blit() in android?

    - by Lo'oris
I'm used to handle graphics with old-school libraries (allegro, GD, pygame), where if I want to copy a part of a bitmap into another... I just use blit. I'm trying to figure out how to do that in android, and I got very confused. So... we have these Canvas that are write-only, and Bitmaps that are read-only? It seems too stupid to be real, there must be something I'm missing, but I really can't figure it out.

  • Adding on touch event to images inside gridview

    - by Steve
I have a gridview where each item has a image and a textview (an app), i added the onItemClick to the gridview in order to launch the app, i also removed the orange selection and made selector in xml so when pressed the text would change to grey and on release it would return to white. My problem is that i need the image to apply an alpha value when pressed and restore the previous alpha on release i tested a lot of ways and none did worked correctly. I came close with the updated answer from the autor of the question: How to set alpha value for drawable in a StateListDrawable?, but some how the state pressed never gets called, i don´t know if this is because i am using the onitemClick to launch the app or not. Also i since i can´t define the alpha on imageview xml i don´t know what else to do Any help will be appreciated

  • Android @Override usage

    - by BahaiResearch.com
    (Newbie to Java, old time C# guy.) I have noticed a lot of the use of @Override in Android example code. I thought that all Java methods were by default "Virutal"? What then does @Override do? Example: private class HelloWebViewClient extends WebViewClient { @Override public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) { view.loadUrl(url); return true; } }

  • The Relationship Between Activities and View Objects - Android

    - by Greenhouse Gases
I am attempting to learn how to develop on the Android platform but do not quite understand the relationship between Activities and Views, because according to the documentation an Activity is link to a UI object that the user can interact with, but if this is the case where does the whole idea of Views come in? There is probably a very basic explanation but I would appreciate a few pointers all the same. Thanks

  • onActivityResult method not being called Android

    - by Chintan
    I am trying to send data from child activity to parent. But somehow, onActivityResult(..) is not getting called. here is code Parent activity selectedText.setOnTouchListener(new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { if (event.getActionMasked() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN) { Intent intent = new Intent(Parents.this,Child.class); startActivityForResult(intent, 1); } return true; } }); @Override protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { switch (requestCode) { case 1: if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) { if (data.hasExtra("selText")) { selectedText.setText(data.getExtras().getString( "selText")); } break; } } Child Activity: I can see selected value set in the setResult(). But after finish of child activity, it's not going back to parent activity. textListView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int myItemInt, long arg3) { selectedFromList =(String) (textListView.getItemAtPosition(myItemInt)); Intent data = new Intent(); data.putExtra("selText", selectedFromList); setResult(RESULT_OK,data); finish(); } });

  • Android AudioRecorder object wont read from microphone.

I'm trying to build a voip application on a new android device, i use AudioRecorder to read the microphone but I'm getting no valid results, just white noise. This happen only on this new device(other work well) and this is probably because this device has PTT ability. Is there some workaround to avoid using AudioRecoder to receive streaming data from the microphone? Thanks. supersk.

  • Help me choose between XML or SQL Lite on android

    - by Ngetha
I have an android app that periodically, say once a week downloads content from a server in XML. The content is used by the app, different Acitivities use different parts of the content. My question is a design one, should I save the data in SQlite or just keep it as an XML file, which one would be faster to read? The app can only use one content piece at a time, which means subsequent XML content downloads replace the old one.

  • How to change sync settings through Android API?

    - by Kyle Slattery
Is there a way to change the sync settings of a Gmail account programmatically with an Android app? For instance, I'd like to enable/disable syncing of a Gmail account from my app, without the user having to do anything. I took a look at AccountManager, but that doesn't seem to be the right place to look.

  • Is it OK to set state within Event Raising methods?

    - by Greg
I ran across this pattern in the code of a library I'm using. It sets state within the event raising method, but only if the event is not null. protected virtual void OnMyEvent(EventArgs e) { if(MyEvent != null) { State = "Executing"; // Only sets state if MyEvent != null. MyEvent(this,e); } } Which means that the state is not set when overriding the method: protected override void OnMyEvent(EventArgs e) { base.OnMyEvent(e); Debug.Assert( State == "Executing" ); // This fails } but is only set when handling the event: foo.MyEvent += (o, args) => Debug.Assert(State == "Executing"); // This passes Setting state within the if(MyEvent != null) seems like bad form, but I've checked the Event Design Guidelines and it doesn't mention this. Do you think this code is incorrect? If so, why? (Reference to design guidelines would be helpful). Edit for Context: It's a Control, I'm trying to create subclass of it, and the state that it's setting is calling EnsureChildControls() conditionally based upon there being an event handler. I can call EnsureChildControls() myself, but I consider that something of a hack.

  • Android Speed based on accelerometer values

    - by fraguas
Hi. I need to obtain the velocity of an android device, based on the accelerometer values. I made a code that allows me to get the accelerometer values, and then I calculate the velocity, using the formula: v = v0 + at. (vector calculation) My problem is that my velocity only increases and never decreases. I think the problem is that the device never gets an negative acceleration. Can you help me with this?

  • editText not centering

    - by Will Nasby
I have a large editText that no matter what I try, won't center. I have tried putting it in a horizontal and vertical linear layout and then setting that gravity to center because setting the imageText's gravity to center, it still hugs the left of my activity. <EditText android:id="@+id/editText1" android:layout_width="250dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:ems="10" android:gravity="center" android:lines="8" android:maxLines="8" android:minLines="8" > </EditText> And here is what it is doing:

  • Set Round Border of an android TextView already having a background color

    - by vaibhav
I want a TextView to have a rounded border. This can be done by using a drawable, specifying a shape in the drawable, and then using the drawable as the background of the TextView. android:background="@layout/border" Also shown here However, my TextView already has a background color (which is gray) and thus I'm unable to use the above method to set a rounded border. Is there any other method to do this which allows the background color of the TextView to remain gray and also surrounds it with a rounded border?

  • Android Full Text Search

    - by Eduardo
Does Android come with a way to do Full Text Search? I know is it not even possible to search contacts by the notes field, being Google the search company, but I would be disappointed if there is no API for that.
