• OVF Tools error

  Hello all, I am trying to use OVF tools 1.0 to create an .ovf appliance split to 4gbs. When I run the following command: ovftool --chunkSize=4gb vi://:@/?ds= e:\test\test.ovf everything starts off fine. It will got for about 15-16% then I get this message: "Error: unable to get NFC ticket for target disk". I have looked online, but cannot find anything that matches this problem. I am using Windows 2k3 as the ovf creation server, and I'm in a ESX 3.5 environment. The ovf must be split into 4gb chunks (or less) so they can be put onto DVDs. Also, when it is done it deletes the files it started to create. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Accessing IPv6 router interface from a minimal Fedora installation?

  I've recently installed Fedora 16 and am trying to set up a simple apache server. The only problem I've run into so far is that I'm unable to access my router's web interface from any box on my network. It assigns addresses via dhcp, and the router always responds to a ping. The server is also picking up an IP from the router on the proper subnet. Now, all I really need to do is forward a port, however I am receiving "Unable to connect" through the web interfaces and "connection refused" via telnet. What are my options, and how might I go about troubleshooting this? Will I need the server's ip to be static in order to change these settings? The router is a "Netopia" model, if that helps.

  Lately I've noticing entries like this one in the kern.log of one of my servers: Feb 16 00:24:05 aramis kernel: swapper: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20 This is what I'd like to know: What exactly does that message mean? Is my server running out of memory? The swap usage is quite low (less than 10%), and so far I haven't noticed any processes being killed because of lack of memory. Additional information: The server is a Xen instance (DomU) running Debian 6.0 It has 512 MB of RAM and a 512 MB swap partition CPU load inside the virtual machine shows an average of 0.25

  Hi, I have just downloaded and installed Office 2010 RTM. Overall, it is very nice, but I miss having proofing tools available for my native language, Danish. I have installed the 2007 Proofing Tools, but they do not work with 2010: For this release we have made significant changes in the proofing infrastructure, therefore the Language Packs from previous Office versions including Office 2007 are not compatible with Office 2010. • urxvt bold colors are wrong - bold #0-7 are using colors from #8-15

  My colors are off. Specifically, the bold version of colors 1-6 is broken: The color of each (emboldened) index should match the color of the text beside it. It does not. This is generated from this gist, modified to enumerate colors 0-15 instead of 16-256. Update: Here's what's going on: Bold #1 is using color #9, bold #2 is using color #10 and so on. I confirmed this by changing color9, color10, etc. in my .Xresources file. I'm using solarized .Xresources and would rather keep colors #9-15 colored differently. Why is urxvt Bold #0-7 using colors from #8-15, and how do I stop this?

• Postfix performance

  Running postfix on ubuntu, sending alot of mail ( ~ 1 million messages ) per day. loads are extremly high but not much in terms of cpu and memory load. Anyone in a similiar situation and know how to remove the bottleneck? All mail on this server is outbound. I would have to assume the bottleneck is disk. • Baidu spider is hammering my server and bloating my error_log file

I have done an IP trace on the client address to find that it belongs to something called baidu. Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co in China. Is there a way that I can just get apache to deny any incoming requests from some crummy spider that is repeatedly hitting my site??? Is there a better way of dealing with the problem? I am happy to completely block out China if it means that I can actually track real errors.

• High server load - [jbd2/md1-8] using 99.99% IO

  I've been having spike in load over the last week. This usually occurs once or twice a day. I've managed to identify from iotop that [jbd2/md1-8] is using 99.99 % IO. During the high load times there is no high traffic to the server. Server specs are: AMD Opteron 8 core 16 GB RAM 2x2.000 GB 7.200 RPM HDD Software Raid 1 Cloudlinux + Cpanel Mysql is properly tuned Apart from the spikes, the load usually is around 0.80 at most. I've searched around but can't find what [jbd2/md1-8] does exactly. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know a possible solution? Thank you. • Snap Server 18000 connection help!

  I wonder if anyone here can help me. I have a home server setup made up of old secondhand computers, 2 servers running Windows Server 2003, 1 workstation running Windows 7, a 16 port switch & an adsl ethernet modem. All these connect and talk to each other fine but then I got a "Snap Server 18000" and a "Snap disk 30sa" sata array. When I turn the Snap on, it boots past the BIOS, runs a kernel, then displays: This device cannot be managed via the video/kbd/mouse interface. The video is now disabled. You may access the management functions from your web browser. Only, none of the other PCs detect it, so no browser can find it! I have checked all cables, and all LEDs indicate there's a connection. I have installed the windows "iscsi" and the adaptec "Snap Server Manager" on all PCs but still it's not detected. I don't know what else to do, please advise!

I have little script that run when user login to the computer and writes the file with computer name. I have 39 computers and only on 23 computers the script was run. • Ubuntu server very slow out of the blue sky (Rails, passenger, nginx)

  I run Ubuntu server 8.04 on Linode with multiple Rails apps under Passenger + nginx. Today I've noticed it takes quite a lot of time to load a page (5-10 secs). And it's not only websites, ssh seems to be affected too. Having no clue why this may be happening, I started to check different things. I checked how the log files are rotated, I checked if there's enough free disk space and memory.   I'm trying to setup the email alerts on the iDrac6 Express on an R610, but when i run the test it just says "Sending Failed". Platform Event Filter Alerts are enabled. The network setup is: 192.168.1.22/255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1 SMTP: 192.168.1.1 Exim is listening 192.168.1.1 and is set to allow mail on 192.168/16. There's nothing in the exim logs about connections from the drac. Is there a way to get the drac to give more information about why it's sending failed?

  I've got a number of audio recordings which I can't play back. It appears to be a case of a missing codec, but I can't locate the codec in question. VLC will not play the files. ffmpeg gives the error Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream 0. This is the output from MediaInfo.   I am using Samba 3, and want to join my Windows 8 PC to the Samba domain. Windows 8 cannot join out of the box, so I added the following registry entries: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode 1 DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired 0 And now it talks to the Samba server ok, however I get the following error: And I notice that the machine name created on the samba server does not match its name: win-8jq3fg1n74e$:x:30003:30003:Machine:/var/lib/nobody:/bin/false It is like it is using an internal name. • Buildcraft Minecraft mod causing crashes, NVIDIA-304xx Linux Drivers, KDE

  All is perfect, 96 fps average. Until an item tries to enter a buildcraft pipe. Tekkit instantly crashes, no error dialog. I have no idea what logs to look at for information on the crash, or how to fix it. • afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

• Format (remove) HDD volume that is visible in Windows 7 Disk Management but not diskpart.exe

  I'm trying to get iRST working on a SSD I installed in my lenovo u410. As part of that process, I created a hibernation partition and was fiddling around with RAID/AHCI settings. I managed to make my computer unbootable. No sweat, I just restored it with Lenovo's 1 key system. Now, however, I can't do anything with that hybernation partition! I can see it: (It's the 7.81 GB partition). But when I try to delete it in Diskpart.exe to reclaim the space and try the formatting again I only see this: I can't do anything with the partition in Disk Management either. Right clicking only shows the 'help' option. Can anyone suggest a way to edit these partitions with windows or, at least, reccomend a program that might help me fix this? Note, I'd rather not delete the 16 GB OEM partition that I believe holds the backup for this computer.

• When gaming computer freezes with a blank screen and a buzzing sound

  I have a problem with random freezes when playing games. Sometimes it's fine for hours, other times it dosn't last even one. I tried googling around and I found recomendations to update my graphics drivers and to test for overheating. The graphics drivers haven't helped worked and Furmark created a consistant heat higher than I get during a crash. I even tried running a game using the Linux dual boot and WINE, that crashed too. Here are the tempreture logs leading up to the latest crash. The GPU dosn't hit 80, and I've hit 90 with no crash on firmark. • Samsung 830 very slow benchmark numbers

  I just bought a new SSD, and installed a fresh copy of Windows on it. I didn't see any noticeable difference in boot times, app start-up times, so I decided to benchmark it. Asus P7P55D-E Intel i5-760 Samsung 830 256GB SATA III Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit The Windows experience index gave the drive a 7.3 rating, but real-world performance is not particularly impressive. Any ideas why the numbers are so low? UPDATE: It turns out that SATA III support is turned off by default on the P7P55D motherboard. After enabling it in BIOS (Tools - Level Up), the scores went up: Read Write Seq 325 183 4K 16 49 IOPS 32K 28K It's an improvement, but still far below what they should be for this drive.
