  • Apache: Assign SSL server / client certs to directories

    I have multiple directories on my system, e.g., /var/www/dir1 /var/www/dir2 /var/www/dir3 And what I'd like to do is to generate a server/client SSL certificate for each directory, and then set up each directory such that the client cert must match the server cert in order to access said directory. Now, if someone has the client cert for /var/www/dir2 and they try to access /var/www/dir1, they will be unable to do so since those directories use different certs. Each of these directories is hosted on the same domain (i.e., domain.com/dir1, domain.com/dir2). Now, the problem I am having is that I am not exactly sure how to accomplish this in Apache. (Also, I don't really care for domain.com to require SSL, but I do want the directories to require it.)

    Hello, I am trying to write a reward system wherein users will be given reward points if they download complete files, So what should be my log format. After searching alot this is what I understand its my first time and havent done custom logs before. First of all which file should I edit for custom logs because this thing I cant find. I am using ubuntu server with default apache, php5 and mysql installation # I use this commands and they work fine nano /etc/apache2/apache2.conf /etc/init.d/apache2 restart I think this is what I need to do for my purpose LogLevel notice LogFormat "%f %u %x %o" rewards CustomLog /var/www/logs/rewards_log rewards This is as it is command or there is something missing? and is there any particular location where I need to add this? and one more thing %o is for filesize that was sent and is it possible to log only files from a particular directory? or for files with size more than 10mb.   • Retrieve malicious IP addresses from Apache logs and block them with iptables

    Im trying to keep away some attackers that try to exploit XSS vulnerabilities from my website, I have found that most of the malicious attempts start with a classic "alert(document.cookie);\" test. The site is not vulnerable to XSS but I want to block the offending IP addresses before they found a real vulnerability, also, to keep the logs clean. My first thought is to have a script constantly checking in the Apache logs all IP addresses that start with that probe and send those addresses to an iptables drop rule. With something like this: cat /var/log/httpd/-access_log | grep "alert(document.cookie);" | awk '{print $1}' | uniq Why would be an effective way to send the output of that command to iptables?     I am involved in designing a asp.net webforms application using .NET 3.5. I have a requirement where we need to log exceptions. What is the best approach for exception handling, given that there would be concurrent users for this application? Is there a need or possibility to log in exceptions at a user level? My support team in-charge wants to have a feature where the support team can get user specific log files. To give you a background, this application is currently on VB 6.0 and we are migrating it along with some enhancements. So, today the support personnel have a provision to get user specific log files.

  • apache/debian squeeze server loading directory listing instead of website

    when you navigate to mywebsite.com/ you see an apache page showing a folder called mywebsite.com/, clicking there then takes me to mywebsite.com/mywebiste.com which doesn't exist, so wordpress shows me the a 404 error.     I have a quick question but I've been struggling to find the best solution: I have two java webapps and wordpress (php) that I need to serve through my Prod website: App #1 should be accessed when pointing to www.example.com/ (this would have other url too such as "www.example.com/book") App #2 should be accessed when pointing to www.example.com/manage Finally WordPress would be accessed at www.example.com/info How can I configure apache to serve all these three instances at the same time?     Hoping that somebody can help us understand this behavior. We've got a bunch of daemontools services under /etc/service/. One of the services controls apache, and the run script has this in it. exec envdir /var/lib/supervise/wwwproxy/env setuidgid root bash <<-BASH ulimit -n 8192 # also increase the running user's file descriptor limit exec apache2 -f /path/to/demo_apache2.conf -D FOREGROUND BASH We were having the problem that svc -d /etc/service/* actually had the effect of restarting all the services, it didn't take them down. We finally tracked it down to that one service, and found that svc -d /etc/service/apache2 would bring up any other service was down, including itself. Changing FOREGROUND to NO_DAEMONIZE fixes the behavior, but we'd really like to understand what's going on. Can anybody explain why an svc -d on one service would bring an other service up? Thanks for any clue you can offer.

    Is it possible to log CREATE / ALTER statements issued on a MySQL server? I heard that it could be done with a trigger, but I can't seem to find suitable code anywhere. I would like to log these statements to a table, preferably with the timestamp of when they were issued. Can someone provide me with a sample trigger that would enable me to accomplish this?     I have an Apache webserver with mod_proxy enabled and a Virtualhost, proxy.domain.com. This proxy is configured to prompt the user for credentials with AuthType Basic. Then, the content of web.domain.com is available through the proxy with ProxyPass and ProxyReverse. However, the REMOTE_USER variable is empty. I read different things to achieve this with mod_rewrite and mod_headers but all my tries have failed. Does anybody has been luckier than me? Thanks.

    We have an ASP.NET web application which is mapped to a folder on an apache hosted php site using ProxyPass.ProxyPassReverse. A couple of problems being encountered. cookies are being lost which breaks the site navigation, this can be overcome by setting the asp app as cookieless. Forms authentication is used on the ASP site, this is also broken withe the proxypass in place, suspect this is cookie related also. ASP site works ok when run from a domain/ip address. Use of a separate domain / sub-domain is not an option duew to client requirements.

    The following HTTP request results in a "See the error log for more details; Invalid Value Found For Domain" error: GET / HTTP/1.0 Host: www.MyWebsite.com If I make the hostname all lowercase, however, it works just fine. How can I make Apache case insensitive? Here's my httpd.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mywebsite.com ServerAlias www.mywebsite.com ... </VirtualHost> I tried adding ServerAlias www.MyWebsite.com to that but that didn't help. And in any event, it seems like that's a poor approach anyway since the case can be mixed up in a ton of different ways and trying to account for all of them would result in a huge *.conf file.   • Tracing or Logging Resource Governor classification function behavior in Sql Server 2008

    I'm trying to use the Resource Governor in SQL Server 2008 but I find it hard to debug the classification function and figure out what the input variables will have, i.e. does SUSER_NAME() contain the domain name? What does the APP_NAME() string look like? It's also hard to verify that it's working correctly. What group did the function return? The only way I can see this is to fire up the performance monitor and watch unblinkingly for little blips in the right CPU counter. Is there some way I can either run it in Debug mode, where I can set a breakpoint and step through and look at variable values, or can I at least do the old-school method of writing trace statements to a file so I can see what's going on? I think it is good practise to put the "real" web server in a seperate subnet, and then install an Apache Reverse Proxy in a DMZ. My question is, where should I put the SSL cert(s)? Should I a) Use a self-signed cert on the "real" web server, and a proper cert on the reverse proxy? b) Use 2 real certs on both the "real" web server and the reverse proxy? c) Don't use any cert on the "real" web server, and use a proper cert on the reverse proxy? I'd like to use a) or c), if possible. I also don't want anyone's browser complaining of a self-signed cert. Thanks

If I have a class UserInformation which has getPhoneNumber, getCreditCardNumber methods, how would I customise log4j or this class so that it will obscure the numbers correctly.   • apache httpd cannot browse through browser

    i've setup apache and php on a virtual machine. everything works fine in the virtual machine. im able to execute php files and run up phpmyadmin connecting to mysql. on my host machine, im able ping and ssh into the remote machines. however, im unable to browse the php files on the host browser using the ip address. in my httpd.conf, im listening to port 80. i enabled the ServerName 192.168.75.102:80 am i missing some settings? port settings maybe?
