  • How efficient is PHP's substr?

    - by zildjohn01
    I'm writing a parser in PHP which must be able to handle large in-memory strings, so this is a somewhat important issue. (ie, please don't "premature optimize" flame me, please) How does the substr function work? Does it make a second copy of the string data in memory, or does it reference the original? Should I worry about calling, for example, $str = substr($str, 1); in a loop?

  • Very high-pitched noise when computer does something intense?

    - by Starkers
    "Intense" is the best word I can use to describe it because I'm not sure what it is, whether it's RAM, GPU or CPU. If I pan the camera in unity: A high pitched noise issues from the computer. The picosecond I start panning the sound starts. Stops the picosecond I stop panning. If I start an infinite loop: 2.0.0p247 :016 > x = 1 => 1 2.0.0p247 :017 > while x < 2 do 2.0.0p247 :018 > puts 'huzzah!' 2.0.0p247 :019?> end huzzah! huzzah! huzzah! An identical high pitched noise can be heard. I don't think it's the GPU due to this simple experiment. Or any monitor-weirdness (although the sound does sound like one of those old CRT monitors if you're old enough to be young when those things were about) The CPU? Or maybe my SSD? It's my first SSD and the first time I've heard this noise. Should I be worried? Regardless, what's causing this sound? I can't think what would cause such high frequency vibrations. I built the PC myself. Not enough heat paste on the CPU? Too much? Just no idea what's going on. Info: CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core i5-3570K, 3800 MHz (38 x 100) Motherboard Name Asus Maximus V Extreme Flash Memory Type Samsung 21nm TLC NAND Video Adapter Asus HD7770

  • Using PHP to read a web page with fsockopen(), but fgets is not working

    - by asdasd
    Im using this code here: http://www.digiways.com/articles/php/httpredirects/ public function ReadHttpFile($strUrl, $iHttpRedirectMaxRecursiveCalls = 5) { // parsing the url getting web server name/IP, path and port. $url = parse_url($strUrl); // setting path to '/' if not present in $strUrl if (isset($url['path']) === false) $url['path'] = '/'; // setting port to default HTTP server port 80 if (isset($url['port']) === false) $url['port'] = 80; // connecting to the server] // reseting class data $this->success = false; unset($this->strFile); unset($this->aHeaderLines); $this->strLocation = $strUrl; $fp = fsockopen ($url['host'], $url['port'], $errno, $errstr, 30); // Return if the socket was not open $this-success is set to false. if (!$fp) return; $header = 'GET / HTTP/1.1\r\n'; $header .= 'Host: '.$url['host'].$url['path']; if (isset($url['query'])) $header .= '?'.$url['query']; $header .= '\r\n'; $header .= 'Connection: Close\r\n\r\n'; // sending the request to the server echo "Header is: ".str_replace('\n', '\n', $header).""; $length = strlen($header); if($length != fwrite($fp, $header, $length)) { echo 'error writing to header, exiting'; return; } // $bHeader is set to true while we receive the HTTP header // and after the empty line (end of HTTP header) it's set to false. $bHeader = true; // continuing untill there's no more text to read from the socket while (!feof($fp)) { echo "in loop"; // reading a line of text from the socket // not more than 8192 symbols. $good = $strLine = fgets($fp, 128); if(!$good) { echo 'bad'; return; } // removing trailing \n and \r characters. $strLine = ereg_replace('[\r\n]', '', $strLine); if ($bHeader == false) $this-strFile .= $strLine.'\n'; else $this-aHeaderLines[] = trim($strLine); if (strlen($strLine) == 0) $bHeader = false; echo "read: $strLine"; return; } echo "after loop"; fclose ($fp); } This is all I get: Header is: GET / HTTP/1.1\r\n Host: www.google.com/\r\n Connection: Close\r\n\r\n in loopbad So it fails the fgets($fp, 128);

  • SQL Code Smells

    - by Lijo
    Hi Team, Could you please list some of the bad practices in SQL, that novice people do? I have found the use of "WHILE loop" in scenarios which could be resolved using set operations. Another example is inserting data only if it does not exist. This can be achieved using LEFT OUTER JOIN. Some people go for "IF" Any other thoughts? Thanks Lijo

  • Iterate through directory filenames using JavaScript on ASP.NET C#

    - by Gal V
    Hello all, I'm trying to read all filenames from a specified (server- not client) folder, and insert all the filenames into a javascript Array. It should behave like the Directory.GetFiles method in ASP.NET C#. I created a new array, and I just need the loop method (Javascript or jQuery) to iterate in the specific folder, and insert all the filenames into the array. Thanks all helpers!

  • How can I use linq to initialize an array of repeated elements?

    - by Eric
    At present, I'm using something like this to build a list of 10 objects: myList = (from _ in Enumerable.Range(0, 9) select new MyObject {...}).toList() This is based off my python background, where I'd write: myList = [MyObject(...) for _ in range(10)] Note that I want my list to contain 10 instances of my object, not the same instance 10 times. Is this still a sensible way to do things in C#? Is there a cost to doing it this way over a simple for loop?

  • IPC between multiple processes on multiple servers

    - by z8000
    Let's say you have 2 servers each with 8 CPU cores each. The servers each run 8 network services that each host an arbitrary number of long-lived TCP/IP client connections. Clients send messages to the services. The services do something based on the messages, and potentially notify N1 of the clients of state changes. Sure, it sounds like a botnet but it isn't. Consider how IRC works with c2s and s2s connections and s2s message relaying. The servers are in the same data center. The servers can communicate over a private VLAN @1GigE. Messages are < 1KB in size. How would you coordinate which services on which host should receive and relay messages to connected clients for state change messages? There's an infinite number of ways to solve this problem efficiently. AMQP (RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ, etc.) Spread Toolkit N^2 connections between allservices (bad) Heck, even run IRC! ... I'm looking for a solution that: perhaps exploits the fact that there's only a small closed cluster is easy to admin scales well is "dumb" (no weird edge cases) What are your experiences? What do you recommend? Thanks!

  • Why is System.arraycopy native in Java?

    - by James B
    I was surprised to see in the Java source that System.arraycopy is a native method. Of course the reason is because it's faster. But what native tricks is the code able to employ that make it faster? Why not just loop over the original array and copy each pointer to the new array - surely this isn't that slow and cumbersome? Thanks, -James

  • UIDisplayLink stops updating when UIScrollView scrolled

    - by Tricky
    Title is quite self explanatory, but I have some animation being done in a loop triggered by UIDisplayLink. However, as soon as I scroll a UIScrollView I have added to my view hierarchy, the animation stops immediately, only to return again when scrolling has completely stopped and come to a standstill.... Anyway to cancel this behaviour?

  • How to display an array's content in colomns, like ls -C does.

    - by Arko
    I wanted to display a long list of strings from an array. Right now, my script run through a for loop echoing each value to the standard output: for value in ${values[@]} do echo $value done Yeah, that's pretty ugly! And the one column listing is pretty long too... I was wondering if i can find a command or builtin helping me to display all those values in columns, like the ls command does by default when listing a directory (ls -C).

  • Ordering Wordpress posts by most recent comment

    - by James
    I'm wanting to order Wordpress posts by the most recent comment. To the best of my knowledge this isn't possible using the WP_Query object, and would require a custom $wpdb query, which I can easily write. However, I then don't know how to setup the loop to run off this object. Can anyone help?

  • Problem in finalizing the link list in C#

    - by Yasin
    My code was almost finished that a maddening bug came up! when i nullify the last node to finalize the link list , it actually dumps all the links and make the first node link Null ! when i trace it , its working totally fine creating the list in the loop but after the loop is done that happens and it destroys the rest of the link by doing so, and i don't understand why something so obvious is becoming problematic! (last line) struct poly { public int coef; public int pow; public poly* link;} ; poly* start ; poly* start2; poly* p; poly* second; poly* result; poly* ptr; poly* start3; poly* q; poly* q2; private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string holder = ""; IntPtr newP = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(sizeof(poly)); q = (poly*)newP.ToPointer(); start = q; int i = 0; while (this.textBox1.Text[i] != ',') { holder += this.textBox1.Text[i]; i++; } q->coef = int.Parse(holder); i++; holder = ""; while (this.textBox1.Text[i] != ';') { holder += this.textBox1.Text[i]; i++; } q->pow = int.Parse(holder); holder = ""; p = start; //creation of the first node finished! i++; for (; i < this.textBox1.Text.Length; i++) { newP = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(sizeof(poly)); poly* test = (poly*)newP.ToPointer(); while (this.textBox1.Text[i] != ',') { holder += this.textBox1.Text[i]; i++; } test->coef = int.Parse(holder); holder = ""; i++; while (this.textBox1.Text[i] != ';' && i < this.textBox1.Text.Length - 1) { holder += this.textBox1.Text[i]; if (i < this.textBox1.Text.Length - 1) i++; } test->pow = int.Parse(holder); holder = ""; p->link = test; //the addresses are correct and the list is complete } p->link = null; //only the first node exists now with a null link! }

  • Editing Neo Slider to move in one direction

    - by user2106416
    I have a website with brandspace theme from pixelentity. Currently, the slider move from right to left ( auto transition) . But, when the slider reaches the last image, it will go back to the first image by making all previous images sliding back from left to right. I want to make the slider to have a normal transition,i.e. going back to first image but still with the image sliding from right to left. Below is the slider.php code.: <?php $t =& peTheme(); ?> <?php list($pid,$conf,$loop) = $t->template->data(); ?> <?php $w = $t->media->width(940); ?> <?php $h = $t->media->height(300); ?> <div class="peSlider peVolo" data-autopause="disabled" data-plugin="<?php echo apply_filters("pe_theme_slider_plugin","peVolo"); ?>" data-controls-arrows="edges-full" data-controls-bullets="disabled" data-icon-font="enabled"> <?php while ($slide =& $loop->next()): ?> <?php $link = empty($slide->link) ? false: $slide->link; ?> <?php $img = $t->image->resizedImg($slide->img,$w,$h); ?> <div data-delay="4" <?php echo $slide->idx == 0 ? ' class="visible"' : ''; ?>> <?php if (isset($slide->caption)) $t->slider->caption($slide->caption); ?> <?php if ($link): ?> <a href="<?php echo $link ?>" data-flare-gallery="fsGallery<?php echo $pid ?>"> <?php echo $img; ?> </a> <?php else: ?> <?php echo $img; ?> <?php endif; ?> </div> <?php endwhile; ?> </div>

  • Parsing pipe delimited string into columns?

    - by DMS
    Hello, I have a column with pipe separated values such as: '23|12.1| 450|30|9|78|82.5|92.1|120|185|52|11' I want to parse this column to fill a table with 12 corresponding columns: month1, month2, month3...month12. So month1 will have the value 23, month2 the value 12.1 etc... Is there a way to parse it by a loop or delimeter instead of having to separate one value at a time using substr? Thanks.

  • Simaltaneous connections with PHP and SOAP?

    - by Dov
    I'm new to using SOAP and understanding the utmost basics of it. I create a client resource/connection, I then run some queries in a loop and I'm done. The issue I am having is when I increase the iterations of the loop, ie: from 100 to 1000, it seems to run out of memory and drops an internal server error. How could I possibly run either a) multiple simaltaneous connections or b) create a connection, 100 iterations, close connection, create connection.. etc. "a)" looks to be the better option but I have no clue as to how to get it up and running whilst keeping memory (I assume opening and closing connections) at a minimum. Thanks in advance! index.php <?php // set loops to 0 $loops = 0; // connection credentials and settings $location = 'https://theconsole.com/'; $wsdl = $location.'?wsdl'; $username = 'user'; $password = 'pass'; // include the console and client classes include "class_console.php"; include "class_client.php"; // create a client resource / connection $client = new Client($location, $wsdl, $username, $password); while ($loops <= 100) { $dostuff; } ?> class_console.php <?php class Console { // the connection resource private $connection = NULL; /** * When this object is instantiated a connection will be made to the console */ public function __construct($location, $wsdl, $username, $password, $proxyHost = NULL, $proxyPort = NULL) { if(is_null($proxyHost) || is_null($proxyPort)) $connection = new SoapClient($wsdl, array('login' => $username, 'password' => $password)); else $connection = new SoapClient($wsdl, array('login' => $username, 'password' => $password, 'proxy_host' => $proxyHost, 'proxy_port' => $proxyPort)); $connection->__setLocation($location); $this->connection = $connection; return $this->connection; } /** * Will print any type of data to screen, where supported by print_r * * @param $var - The data to print to screen * @return $this->connection - The connection resource **/ public function screen($var) { print '<pre>'; print_r($var); print '</pre>'; return $this->connection; } /** * Returns a server / connection resource * * @return $this->connection - The connection resource */ public function srv() { return $this->connection; } } ?>

  • MySQL getting stuck, eating up disk i/o

    - by bonez05
    Hi all, Using mySQL 5.0.51 on Solaris . At intermittent times it looks like MySQL is getting 'stuck' . The disk usage on the server spikes to 98% busy from reads. I used dtrace (specifically DTrace toolkit - iosnoop) to track down what processes was using all the reads. Mysql was calling tablename.TDM hundreds of times per second. There was no more than average load on the webserver that could account for this. There were no cronjobs running, and no other utilities like mysqldump or anything. It is a master / slave replication setup. As a jury-rigged fix, I altered the mysql table from 'tablename' to 'tablename2' and then back to 'tablename' This fixed the problem temporarily, and "unsticks" mysql. The disk usage goes back down and dtrace is no longer showing hundreds of reads to 'tablename.TDM' / second. A couple ideas I had are: 1. MySQL version bug 2. Infinite loop somewhere in my application (which i'm not sure how likely this is) 3. ?? Has anybody seen this before or have any insight? Thanks

  • Delete last line in txt file

    - by user3658127
    I wrote a foreach loop for my datagridview to write all rows to txt file. I have a problem as it adds 2 empty lines at the end, as 1 row is full of empty cells after adding/reading to datagrid view. Is there any way to omit the last line or delete it in txt? foreach (DataGridViewRow item in this.DB.Rows) { foreach (DataGridViewCell item2 in item.Cells) { if(item2.Value != null) filewrite.Write(item2.Value.ToString() + " "); } filewrite.WriteLine(""); }
