  I need a comparison table of some sort for database varieties (MySQL, SQLite etc.). I can't find one. My use case is, I am implementing storage of objects in a distributed hash table. I need a database solution that is: Fast for sorting Simplistic (no users, preferably no additional structures like multiple tables etc.) Concurrent (if possible) Multi-platform File based (not stored in memory primarily) Centralized I will be programming in Go. As I understand, I believe I need what is called a Document Orientated Database, because I am storing objects, identified by keys. EDIT: While I am implementing a DHT, I will also be storing metadata about the objects, such as access counts etc. It would also be preferable to have TLL (time to live)

  I found a tutorial for developing multi-level drop down menu here.Its demo can be checked at www.kriesi.at/wp-content/extra_data/suckerfish_tutorial/step4.html#. I would like to enhance it to support cross-frames . It means, the horizontal part of the whole menu (html,css,javascript etc..in demo page) will exist in the upper frame and the rest will be put in the lower frame. Edit: There will be only one menu item in the horizontal part. It will be still ok if I can click that menu_item rather than mouse-hovering to show the lower part of the menu .   I have this string in PHP Hopelessly Incredible |SPG:M| 766 STEAM_0:1:20130600 " banned "A Blatantly Obvious Hacker 740 STEAM_0:1:55386073 " (minutes "0") (reason "Multi-Hack") The Format of the string is: Name1 Number(0-3 digits) Steam_0:x:xxxx offense (banned/kicked/mute etc) Name2 Number(0-3 digits) Steam_0:x:xxxx time reason My goal is to remove the values 766 and 740 because it is just garbage. Those values can have single, double, and triple digits. The next step would be to strip STEAM_0:1:20130600 and STEAM_0:1:55386073 out of the string and capture it in a new variable. The only constant is STEAM_0: the rest can change. I am still learning regex but I fear this is a bit complicated for me to do. Some guidance would be most appreciative.

• How do I prevent Window resizing when the Workstation is Locked then Unlocked?

  We have an application that is run in multi-monitor environments. Users normally have the application dialog spread out to span multiple mointors. If the user locks the workstation, and then unlocks it, our application is told to resize. Our users find this behavior frustrating, as they then spend some time restoring the previous layout. We're not yet sure whether it is the graphics driver requesting the resize or Windows. Hopefully through this question, it will become clearer which component is responsible, Popular applications like (File) Explorer and Firefox behave the same way in this setup. To replicate just: open Explorer (Win+E) drag the Explorer window to being horizontally larger than 1 screen lock workstation (Win+L), unlock the application should now resize to being solely on 1 screen How do I prevent Window resizing when the Workstation is Locked then Unlocked? Will we need to code in checks for (un)locking? Is there another mechanism we're not aware of?

  Folks I am trying to build a sitemap (we need one badly) for a huge multi-page web app. Technically its not much more than a collection of php/MySQL web forms that use javascript instead of traditional linkage to access the many pages. >td width="100" align="center" ONMOUSEOVER="this.className='bgover'" ONMOUSEOUT="this.className='bgout'" onclick="location.href='../main.php'">Main Page</td> Above is code sample of how the links are currently managed. I know I can search through the various pages, nearly a 1000, and find these "location.href" variables and that will help me a sitemap for each section. But maybe there is an easier way? WE use Trac and SVN so perhaps I am going about this the wrong way? Any advice would be appreciated.

• Scrolling through list element causes text elements to scroll as well

  I'm using a list element with variableRowHeight and word-wrap set to true like in the example below: http://blog.flexexamples.com/2007/10/27/creating-multi-line-list-rows-with-variable-row-heights/ When I scroll through the list with a mouse scrollwheel the text in the listItems also scroll. I know that this is to do with the height of the textField... but I am unsure how to best resolve this issue. Any thoughts are appreciated! The issue that I am experiencing also occurs in the example above.

• Why isn't it possible to update an ObservableCollection from a different thread?

  In a multi-threaded WPF application, it is not possible to update an ObservableCollection from a thread other than WPF window thread. I know there are workarounds, so my question is not how to avoid the "This type of CollectionView does not support changes to its SourceCollection from a thread different from the Dispatcher thread" exception. My question is, why there is such an exception? Why wasn't it possible to allow collection updates from any thread? Personally, I don't see any reason to block UI update when ObservableCollection is changed from other threads. If two threads (including parallel ones) are accessing the same object, one listening for changes of object properties through events, the other one doing changes, it will always work, at least if locks are used properly. So, what are the reasons?

  My program is working with fax documents stored as separate bitmaps I wonder if there is a way to detect automatically page orientation (vertical or horizontal) to show image preview for user in right order (meant rotate if neccesary) Any advices much appreciated! EDIT: Clarification: When Faxmachine receives multi-page document it saves each page as separate TIFF file. My app has built-in viewer displaying those files. All files are scaled to A4 format and saved in TIFF (so there is no change to detect orientation by height/width parameters) My viewer displays images in portrait mode by default What I'd like to do is automagically detect situation when org document was printed in landscape mode (eg wide Excel tables) then I'd like to show rotated preview for end user to speed up preview process Obviously there are 4 possible fax orientation portrait / landscape x 2 kind of rotations. I'm even interested simplified solution detecting when org doc was landscape or portrait (I've noticed most of landscape docs needs to be rotated clockwise)

• How can I measure file access performance (and volume) of a (Java) application

  Given an application, how can I measure the amount of data read and written by that application? the time spent reading/writing to disk? The specific application is Java-based (JBoss), and multi-threaded, and running as a service on Windows 7/2008 x64. The overall goal I have is determining whether and why file access is a bottleneck in my application. Therefore, running the application in a defined and repeatable scenario is a given. File access may be local as well as on network shares. Windows performance monitor appears to be too hard to use (unless someone can point me to a helpful explanation). Any ideas?

  I'd like to write an axis label over two lines with an expression() statement. However, plotmath and expression won't allow this (e.g. subscript appear on the far right). I found this discussion circa 2005 of a similar issue but the work around that they offer doesn't translate to my application in ggplot2. A recent question addressed a a different permutation of multi-line expression statements, but again the work around provided doesn't apply here.   This question is particularly aimed at descriptions and explanations of what is happening in a computer program, as well as any general advice or approaches for undertaking technical reports in Computer Science at both undergraduate and graduate levels. You see, I am having particular difficulty in the best way to explain what is happening. As in, given any given program from a multi-agent system to a standard webservice, the best and most eloquent way to say exactly what is going on, the logic behind it and it's respective justifications. Should I avoid saying class names? Avoid specifying methods? Keep referring to class variables and any particular references? I'm banging my head against the wall at trying to keep a solid technical foundation and making it accessible to people of all backgrounds. Apologies for the rather vague question. Cheers.

  Seems Androidplot (androidplot.com) website/forums are down so I'll try asking this question here. I have multi touch zoom and scrolling. Similar code to http://mlepicki.com/2012/03/androidplot-multitouch-zoom-scroll/ except that I have a bar graph instead. However with 100 data points it has noticeable lag. Even with 10 bars are just showing. Sounds like its drawing/calculating/etc all bars. Any idea on how I could optimise this? I can't use hardware rendering as I want to support Android 2.1 and the library doesn't support it(it breaks).

  hi folks, i got a crazy error within that for-loop matr=realloc(matr, newmax*sizeof(matr*)); for (i=0; i<newmax; i++){ matr[i]=realloc(matr[i], newmax*sizeof(int)); } matr is a multi-dimension array: int **matr. i need to resize column and row. first line resizes column and the for-loop resizes every row. it worked fine in c. now im working on a library for lua and it crashs here. compilin' works fine as well. but calling from lua crashs with lua: malloc.c:3552: mremap_chunk: Assertion `((size + offset) & (mp_.pagesize-1)) == 0' failed. i have no damn idea since it's working fine using it in c.

• Large strings: Text files or SQL DB?

  I am coding a forum system using PHP. I am currently storing a threads ID, title, author, views and other attributes in an SQL database and then storing the thread body (the HTML and BBcode) in text files inside a folder named after the thread ID. In practise it's really simple to grab the database values then just grab the thread body from the text file, but I was wondering if this is the 'proper way'? I have personally no problems doing this but if it turns out it is massively inefficient and I should instead store both the thread body HTML and BBcode in the database instead then I will change. However, to me it seems wrong to store such a (very possibly) huge string of multi-line text along with lots of different characters in a database - I was taught that databases are more for short field 'values' rather than website content. I would just like a definitive answer to this because it's been bugging me for ages as to wherever I’ve been doing it properly. Does anyone know how popular forum systems store threads?

• Simple C++ container class that is thread-safe for writing

  I am writing a multi-threaded program using OpenMP in C++. At one point my program forks into many threads, each of which need to add "jobs" to some container that keeps track of all added jobs. Each job can just be a pointer to some object. Basically, I just need the add pointers to some container from several threads at the same time. Is there a simple solution that performs well? After some googling, I found that STL containers are not thread-safe. Some stackoverflow threads address this question, but none that forms a consensus on a simple solution.

• RESTful API: How to handle translated textfields in representations?

  I am designing a RESTful API for a booking application. There are accommodations that you can request a list or the details. As the application targets a multi-language audience, the descriptions are (sometimes) available in different languages. Now I'm not sure how to handle these translations in the representation of an accommodation. Without the multiple languages I would make "description" a field or the accommodation object, quite simple. Any idea how to solve this elegantly? My current idea: Add a list of descriptions with text<-culture pairs instead of the description field and an additional subressource /descriptions to the accommodation for the creating (POST), updating (PUT) and deleting (DELETE) of new translations.

• Maven: Variables are not replaced in installed and deployed POM

  We have been trying to migrate our multi-module projects to maven. I have been struggling with the maven install plugin bug "http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-2971". I have written a Java program which can find and replace the expressions using my settings.xml and POM in my local repository view. As a result all of my parent POM's are having a additional phase in the build process. What i'm doing is that i have attached a goal which will run my Java program during "validate" phase. I think this is a not a good idea instead i would have asked individuals to run the program on their local repository on their own. What i'm asking here is that the best way to work around the "install" plugin issue (MNG-2971). I searched through the net but i could not locate such work around.

• Serialized task distribution: use thread or epoll?

  Now I'm in such a situation that there is a group of predefined tasks for multiple clients to do(any client can take any task). When a client connects to the server, server choose a task from the uncompleted tasks and send it to the client. It takes a while for the client to finish the task and send the result back to the server. Since a task should be sent to only one client, server should process requests in a serialized way. Now I have two plans to do it: create a thread for each client connection and all the threads take turns accessing the task pool, or use epoll listening on all the connection and process for each event of clients. Which one is better for the job? Or is there any other ideas? The server will be run on a multi-core machine.

In notepad++ you can accomplish the same thing by holding ctrl and clicking the additional lines(areas) you would like to edit. I figured I could use a autohotkey script to accomplish the same functionality. So I tried #IfWinActive, ahk_class Notepad++ ^!Down::^Click but each time that I try to load the script I get Error at Line 2 Line Text: ^Click Error: This line does not contain a recognized action the program will exit then I tried #IfWinActive, ahk_class Notepad++ ^!Down::send ^Click but that shows up as ETXClick in notepad++ What more do I need to get this script to work only for Notepad++

I'm using a View to display the content of my website with exposed filter (tags multi-selection) When I click on one of the tags something strange happen on the new website..   I'm trying to read a multi-line tab-separated file in bash. The format is such that empty fields are expected. Unfortunately, the shell is collapsing together field separators which are next to each other, as so: # IFS=$'\t' # read one two three <<<$'one\t\tthree' # printf '<%s> ' "$one" "$two" "$three"; printf '\n' <one> <three> <> ...as opposed to the desired output of <one> <> <three>. Can this be resolved without resorting to a separate language (such as awk)?
