  • Are reads and (transactional) writes faster for entities of the same group than otherwise?

    - by indiehacker
What advantage is there to designing child-parent relationships, which allow us to do writes in transactions, when there is never a real concern for consistency and contention and those sort of more complex issues? Does it make writes and reads faster? Consider my situation where there are many .png images that are referenced to one mosaic layer, and these .png images are written just once by a single user. The user can design many mosaic layers and her mosaic layers and referenced image entities are never changed/updated, they are just deleted some time in the future. Other users can come to the web project site and interactively view the mosaic layer as different layouts/configurations of the images as they play (query) with different criteria. So reads should be very fast. So there is no real worry of contention, or users conflicting with one another with writing new image entities. And because of that I am assuming there is no "requirement" for the .png image entities to be grouped by their same mosaic layer in child-parent relationship. However, perhaps, since the documentation says they are stored close to one another, if the many image entities were grouped as children to a single mosaic layer parent than this has the advantage that the writing (in transaction) and reading will happen much faster?

  • How do I make TODO comments show up in the task list for C++ projects in Visual Studio 2010?

    - by Chris Simmons
I'm trying to get my TODO comments to show up in the task list in Visual Studio 2010 for a C++ project, but they don't. I looked at this, but see no caveats other than the TODO comments need to be in the currently-open file. For example, creating a new Win32 console app places this: // TODO: reference additional headers your program requires here in a new file, stdafx.h. However, there's nothing in the task list. I have "Comments" chosen from the drop-down in the task list, but it's always empty. And it's not this problem; I can open the file and be looking at the TODO comment in the code editor and no task is shown. This is not a problem for C# projects as TODO comments show up as designed in those projects; this appears to be an issue specific to C++ projects. What else can I check?

  • AppEngine: Can I write a Dynamic property (db.Expando) with a name chosen at runtime?

    - by MarcoB
If I have an entity derived from db.Expando I can write Dynamic property by just assigning a value to a new property, e.g. "y" in this example: class MyEntity(db.Expando): x = db.IntegerProperty() my_entity = MyEntity(x=1) my_entity.y = 2 But suppose I have the name of the dynamic property in a variable... how can I (1) read and write to it, and (2) check if the Dynamic variable exists in the entity's instance? e.g. class MyEntity(db.Expando): x = db.IntegerProperty() my_entity = MyEntity(x=1) # choose a var name: var_name = "z" # assign a value to the Dynamic variable whose name is in var_name: my_entity.property_by_name[var_name] = 2 # also, check if such a property esists if my_entity.property_exists(var_name): # read the value of the Dynamic property whose name is in var_name print my_entity.property_by_name[var_name] Thanks...

  • How to set CSS style colors in GWT

    - by AmaltasCoder
I have a GWT + AppEngine application that lets users create online polls. I want to let the poll creator choose from a variety of themes for his poll. We will save the theme a poll creator chose on the server and whenever a poll respondent access the poll he will get the questions with the chosen theme. A theme for us means a set of 4-5 colors which we will use to style the poll page. Our client side application is a GWT application with styles set inline in UiBinder templates elements, for example: <ui:style> .header { background: color1; padding: 6px 6px; } .anothercssclass { background: color2; padding: 6px 6px; } </ui:style> Please suggest how we can set the color1 and color2 from the theme saved on server. Please note this is NOT a GWT module theme question.

  • Flickering Image in Java?

    - by Noah Cagle
OK so I am coding a game right now to prepair for Ludum Dare SharkJam, and I am using a new method for programming, because the last method I had crashes my PC, so this one should work. Well it does work and all, better too, but the images that I put in it flicker. Here is the whole main class (where the images are drawn) package me.NoahCagle.watermaze; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import javax.swing.JFrame; import me.NoahCagle.watermaze.entity.EntityShark; import me.NoahCagle.watermaze.entity.Player; import me.NoahCagle.watermaze.input.Keys; import me.NoahCagle.watermaze.map.Map; public class Game extends JFrame { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; Map map = new Map(0, 0); Player player = new Player(50, 30); static EntityShark shark = new EntityShark(400, 400); public Image dbImage; public Game() { setSize(800, 600); setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setLocationRelativeTo(null); setVisible(true); setTitle("Water Maze"); setResizable(false); setBackground(Color.blue); addKeyListener(new Keys()); } public static void main(String[] args) { new Game(); Thread s = new Thread(shark); s.start(); } public void paint(Graphics g) { dbImage = new BufferedImage(getWidth(), getHeight(), BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB); g.drawImage(dbImage, map.x, map.y, null); g.drawImage(player.player, player.x, player.y, this); g.drawImage(shark.shark, shark.x, shark.y, this); repaint(); } } What this code does for me is makes the Images work correctly, just flickering, alot. Can anyone help me with my issue? EDIT: I think it has something to do with where I call the repaint method in the paint method, so look there.

  • AppEngine Outage? What's happening?

    - by Albert
I'm getting a lot of 500 errors recently (both static and dynamic requests). Making my application unavailable. The logs say the following: A problem was encountered with the process that handled this request, causing it to exit. This is likely to cause a new process to be used for the next request to your application. (Error code 121) The same code has been working well for quite some time. What's happening now? I'm using the High Replication Datastore and Python 2.5.

  • Include a repetitive chunk of HTML

    - by user146780
I basically have a div on my site that always has the same stuff. However, this div is not present on all pages which is why I won't use the dynamic web template. I was wondering if it was possible for PHP to get the code from a document on the server and put in into the div? Ex: <div id="section... then my text file contains <p>hello</p> Basically I want PHP to put it into the div when the user sees it. If theres a smarter way of acheiving this I'd be open to it as well. Thanks

  • Timeout loading application on GAE using web2py

    - by Charles P.
I am uploading an app to GAE. Through some experimentation I've found that if I don't include wsgihandler.py, the app loads very slowly. It feels like it's looking for this file and them timing out. Besides the slow loading, everything works perfectly without wsgihandler.py, so I want to know if there is a simple way to remove the references to the file. I tried poking around the files, but it doesn't look like there are direct references. Also, I asked before what I need at a minimum to get an application to work, and I found that I need: web2py/app.yaml web2py/gaehandler.py web2py/VERSION web2py/gluon/* (and subfolders, this is web2py) web2py/applications/theoneappyouwanttodeploy/* (and subfolders)

  • Can JPA do batch update | put | write | insert as pm.makePersistentAll() does in GAE/J

    - by Kenyth
I searched through multiple discussions here. Can someone just give me a quick and direct answer? And if with JPA you can't do a batch update, what if I don't use transaction, and just use the following flow: em = emf.getEntityManager // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) ... em.close() How does this compare to batch update with regard to performance, and compare to a single transaction commit, measured by RPC calls to datastore server, CPU cycles per request, or so. Does every call to em.persist(..) before em.close() trigger a RPC call to the datastore server? Thanks very much for any response!

  • How do I get the application title of a Google AppEngine app from within that app

    - by Noah McIlraith
Under the application settings page in the Administration console, it is possible to specify a name for the application, AFAIK this is used in the login page when using the users API to login. I would like to be able to use this information within an application, currently, the title is also specified in a separate configuration file, but configuration repetition is something I would like to avoid if at all possible. Is there some way for a GAE application to determine the "Application Title"? Oh, also, I am using python.

  • Getting MATLAB variable (string) from C

    - by Hamming
Hi! I'm writing a small C application that launchs a Matlab script (.m file). I need to exchange some variables and I don't know how to get an array of chars that exists in Matlab. I'm doing something like this: enter code here result = engGetVariable(ep,"X"); if (!result) { printf ("Error..."); exit -1; } int n = mxGetN(result); char *varx = NULL; memcpy(varx, mxGetData(result),n*sizeof(char)); It doesn't work. Does someone know how to get a Matlab string in C? I've read Matlab documentation about engGetVariable() and the provided example but any of this things clarify me.
