• PHP + GD: imagetruecolortopalette not keeping transparency

  I am using GD to output an image that is a truecolor+alpha channel PNG file using imagepng just fine. However, I would like to have the ability to also output an ie6-compatible 256-color PNG as well. According to the official documentation for imagetruecolortopalette: The code has been modified to preserve as much alpha channel information as possible in the resulting palette, in addition to preserving colors as well as possible. However, I am finding that the results of this function do not properly preserve any transparency at all. I used this firefox image with text superimposed on top of it as a test, and all the function did was give me a white background and a weird dark blue border. I know that I can't hope to preserve the full alpha channel, but surely this function would at least pick up on the transparent background. Is there something I'm missing? Are there any alternative approaches that I can take?

• R ggplot barplot; Fill based on two separate variables

  A picture says more than a thousand words. As you can see, my fill is based on the variable variable. Within each bar there is however multiple data entities (black borders) since the discrete variable complexity make them unique. What I am trying to find is something that makes each section of the bar more distinguishable than the current look. Preferable would be if it was something like shading. • How to find the maximum value for each key in a List of Dictionaries using LINQ?

  I have a List of Dictionaries that have keys of type string and values that are ints. Many of the dictionaries have the same keys in them but not all of them. So my question is: using LINQ how would I find the maximum value associated with each distinct key across all of the dictionaries? • WebGL transparent black.

  I have a strange problem that I can't figure out when trying to do blending in WebGL. Black is rendered fully transparent , and everything with shades of grey in it is rendered also semi transparent. I have set it to use the alpha channel as the source for transparency, and in some respect it works, every thing that isn't black/grey is rendered differently when changing the alpha value. but even when I set the alpha to 1, black is still displayed transparent. This is how I enable transparency: this.gl.blendFunc(this.gl.SRC_ALPHA, this.gl.ONE); this.gl.enable(this.gl.BLEND); this.gl.disable(this.gl.DEPTH_TEST); And the part of the shader that does transparency: gl_FragColor = vec4(texColor.rgb * vLightWeight, texColor.a * uAlpha); where texColor is the texture color that is being sampled, vLightWeight is the shadowing that is being calculated in the vertex shader, and uAlpha the uniform which I use for transparency.

  I am trying to get a color to show up on screen just like the charging battery (shown here): After looking at the Apple Documentation on UIColor here, I have attempted using both colorWithHue:saturation:brightness:aplha: and colorWithRed:green:blue:alpha: to get a color to show up like that. For example when I use colorWithHue:.3 saturation:.84 brightness:1 alpha:.5 on a black background, it renders a color like this: or the colorWithRed:0 green:1 blue:0 alpha:.5 on a black background shows up like this: It doesn't have that translucent or glossy look to it. Is there a better method to use? Or do I just not have the values right? (I have tried many combinations)

• Can you have multiple interpolators on a single view when using ViewPropertyAnimator?

  For example, I would like to animate a view such that it moves down in the y direction while decelerating, and at the same time it undergoes an alpha change linearly. The code would look something like this: myView.animate().translationY(100).setDuration(1000).setInterpolator(new DecelerateInterpolator()); myView.animate().alpha(1).setDuration(1000).setInterpolator(new LinearInterpolator()); This does not work of course because the LinearInterpolator overwrites the DecelerateInterpolator. Is there a way to have one interpolator for the translation part of the animation and a different interpolator for the alpha part? I am aware that this can be accomplished using ObjectAnimator or an AnimationSet, but my question is about whether it can be done using the much cleaner ViewPropertyAnimator.

  I got a ton of movieclips in a class. I want to turn every single instance in the class interludeIntro invisible, but I want to turn specific instances visible later.   I sometimes disable depth buffer writing via glDepthMask(GL_FALSE) during the alpha rendering of a frame. That works perfectly fine on some GPUs (like the Motorola Droid's PowerVR), but on the HTC EVO with the Adreno GPU for example, I end up with the frame buffer being complete garbage (I see traces of the meshes I rendered somewhere, but the entire screen is mostly trashed). If I force glDepthMask to be true the entire time, everything works fine. I need glDepthMask to be off during parts of the alpha rendering. What can cause the framebuffer to get destroyed by turning the depth writing off? I do clear the depth buffer initially, and the majority of the screen has pixels rendered with depth writing turned on first before I do additional drawing with it turned off.

• Exporting SWF With Transparent Background For Scaleform/UDK

  After looking all over in the UDN and forums I have yet to find a solution for this: I am currently using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 2.0 to build my scaleform menus and I can use them in the UDK. For various reasons I can't use the handy plugin Autodesk supplies to enable this export so I publish my flash documents to swf the old fassioned way and manually use the gfxexport.exe tool to get my .gfx file. I can then import into the UDK the normal way. My problem is that the flash movies that I import will not alpha blend even if the material is set to blend in the alpha channel of the target render texture. My project images are set up to export properly. My classpath for Actionscript 2.0 is set to the correct location. My HTML publish settings have window mode set to Transparent Windowless. Is it possible to export without the scaleform flash extension and still get the desired effects and if so how might I do so? Am I merely missing something from my project setup?

• Implement Negascout Algorithm with stack

  I'm not familiar with how these stack exchange accounts work so if this is double posting I apologize. I asked the same thing on stackoverflow. I have added an AI routine to a game I am working on using the Negascout algorithm. It works great, but when I set a higher maximum depth it can take a few seconds to complete. The problem is it blocks the main thread, and the framework I am using does not have a way to deal with multi-threading properly across platforms. So I am trying to change this routine from recursively calling itself, to just managing a stack (vector) so that I can progress through the routine at a controlled pace and not lock up the application while the AI is thinking. I am getting hung up on the second recursive call in the loop. It relies on a returned value from the first call, so I don't know how to add these to a stack. • Order independent transparency in particle system

  I'm writing a particle system and would like to find a trick to achieve proper alpha blending without sorting particles because: Each particle is a point sprite in a single mesh and I can't use scene graph ability to sort transparent nodes. The system node should be properly sorted, though. Particle position is computed on shader from initial velocity, acceleration and time. In order to sort the system I would have to perform all this computations on CPU, which is something I want to avoid. Sorting hundreds of particles against camera position and uploading it on GPU each frame seams to be quiet heavy operation. Alpha testing seems to be fast enough on GLES 2.0 and works fine for non-transparent but "masked" textures. Still, it's not enough for semi-transparent particles. How would you handle this?

• Can you change a license once you pick one?

  I am working on a product that I don't feel is completely ready but I have a set of users that are very interested in using it now as "alpha" testers. I would like to give them the product now for free as "alpha" testers, but I would like to later license the software. Is this possible? Can anyone point me to any links/books/articles/etc? Thanks. EDIT: Due to the lack of my clarity and the reponses to the question I thought I should add this statement. I haven't decided if I am going to close-source or open-source this project yet. The user base that wants to get their hands on it now has kind of surprised me and I was concerned about what my options are as far as being able to give it to them now as open-source and later change to closed-source, or even vice versa. • HLSL: An array of textures and sampler states

  The shader must switch between multiple textures depending on the Alpha value of the original texture for each pixel. Now this would word fine if I didn't have to worry about SamplerStates. I have created my array of textures and can select a texture based on the Alpha value of the pixel. But how do I create an Array of SamplerStates and link it to my array of textures? I attempted to treat the SamplerState as a function by adding the (int i) but that didn't work.
