Exchange 2007 - mailbox role Exchange 2007 client access, transport role I am trying to monitor the following performance counter on my exchange 2007 server (mailbox role) MSExchange Database(Information Store)\Database Page Fault Stalls/sec But I cant find the counter anywhere. I have checked the version of exchange an its 8.3.6 I looked on the other server in case I had it mixed up, but its not here either. Can anyone shed some light ?

• Exchange 2010 Internal Auto Discover Migrate away from current .local DNS name

  We have an Exchange 2010 Server, running within our Active Directory domain, with an internal hostname of server.example.local. The server is configured for Exchange anywhere, but currently has a self signed certificate with a name of server.example.local installed. Internally, clients connect and work fine, but externally, we are having certificate errors as you would expect. I'm about to purchase a UCC SSL Certificate to install on the server with all the relevant SANs on the certificate to correct this, but due to obvious problem obtaining a trusted cert with .local as a subject alternative name, I'm looking to configure clients on the internal network so that they don't use any reference to the .local hostname. I've configured our external DNS name for the server as exchange.example.com, and have created an CNAME for autodiscover.example.com which also (correctly) points to exchange.example.com. I've also configured internal DNS records for these two hostnames which point to the internal interface of the same server. I don't anticipate any problems here. I'm now trying to reconfigure Auto Discover internally, so that Outlook attempts to connect to exchange.example.com. I've followed the steps in KB940726 to prepare for this, and this appeared to work fine. No errors were generated and I was able to verify the CAS name in AD using ADSI edit. I've just tried testing this with a newly created test user account complete with a new Exchange mailbox, and Outlook 2007 connects fine on the internal network, but looking deeper in the Exchange profile, Outlook is still resolving the server name as server.example.local. Could it be the self signed cert, that is causing Outlook to display the server name as server.example.local, or is there still something wrong with my internal autodiscover configuration? Edit I've proven it isn't the certificate that is responsible for outlook returning server.example.local, by installing another self certified certificate with a name of test.example.com. When creating a new outlook profile, I get the mismatch error I'm expceting, but after accepting the cert, and finishing the config of the Outlook profile, again it still shows server.example.local as the server name. This means that if I were to purchase the UCC cert now, that external client would work fine, but internal clients would show a certificate name mismatch. Any ideas where to start diagnosing this?

I have previously solved this task by manually creating an external contact for each email address and then adding those external contacts to a distribution group. What would be the most efficient way to solve this task with Exchange 2010? Does EMS help here?

• Exchange 2010 DAG + VMWare HA = no support?

  We currently have an Exchange 2003 clustered environment (two machine cluster) that we're looking to upgrade to 2010. We recently purchased a VMWare virtualization environment (three Dell R710's with an EMC NS-120 serving up NFS datastores - iSCSI is available) that we wish to use for this new environment. I'm seeing that Microsoft does not support Exchange 2010 DAGs with a virtualization high availability solution (see links below). I would like to utilize the DAG to ensure the data stays available if one host goes down, and HA to ensure that if the physical host goes down, the VM will come back up on the other available host. Does anybody know why MS does not support this? VMWare HA will only restart the VM if it is hung/down - I don't see any difference between this and restarting the physical box if someone pulled the power... Will we only run into issues with support if it has something to do with HA/DAG failover or will they see we have HA and tell us to put it on a physical box even if it has nothing to do with HA? If we disable HA for these VM's will that satisfy them on a support case? Has anybody set up an Exchange 2010 DAG on VMware with HA enabled? Will they have any issues with using an NFS datastore? We have much greater flexibility on the EMC with NFS vs iSCSI, so I would prefer to continue utilizing that. • Can I use Outlook 2010 (beta) with OWA account?

  One of the new features of Outlook 2010 (beta) is the support for multiple Exchange accounts. I'm wondering if there is any way to use this together with a (different) Outlook Web Access account to also get that email in Outlook. Specifially, in additional to my regular corporate (Exchange) account, I also use another corporate account through OWA. With this second account, the only supported access is through OWA; while POP3 access is available, it is not actually suported. I'm not very familiar with configuring Exchange servers, but in talking to those who are, it sounds like enabling Outlook Web Access is (slightly) different than allowing access from Outlook via HTTP(s). Is that correct? If so, it doesn't really semm quite right as absolute worst-case, one could (theoretically) resort to screen-scraping OWA. Edit: this looks to be about the same as Activesync/OWA Desktop Client? (This doesn't have anything to do with the question, but I'm actually using this second corporate account in Outlook by POP3'ing to Gmail, and then IMAP4 from Gmail to Outlook. Obviously, it would be much nicer to add it as a second Exchange account.).

• In Excel 2010, how can I show a count of occurrences on a specific date within multiple time ranges?

  Here's what I'm trying to do. I have three columns of data. ID, Date(MM/DD/YY), Time(00:00). I need to create a chart or table that shows the number of occurrences on, say, 12/10/2010 between 00:00 and 00:59, 1:00 and 1:59, etc, for each hour of the day. I can do countif and get results for the date, but I cannot figure out how to show a summary of the count of occurrences per hour for the 24 hour period. I have months of data and many times each day. Example of data set is below. • Migrating from "partial" Exchange 2003 to full Exchange 2003 usability

  I have a client that is using Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 R2, but only for calendar sharing and contacts sharing. Their email is still coming to their clients via a POP3 account on each client's Outlook. I'd like to move them over to using Exchange for both email and the other things they are utilizing it for now. Can you folks guide me in the right direction? The setup: external domain is akin to domain.com (and is where they get their POP3 email from now) internal domain is akin to domain.local only simple hardware firewall (no ISA) static external IP is available to use My "assumptions": Setup SMTP default connector in Exchange for their existing external domain Have their existing email backed up to PST files (just in case) Setup the new MX records to point domain.com to the static external IP I'm a little confused how I'm going to setup their existing Exchange accounts with the proper SMTP address though. Right now it is just [email protected]. Do I just need to modify or create a new recipient policy? Are there other steps involved that I'm missing? Anyone with a walkthrough or even a basic "steps" is fine. I'm fairly used to Exchange 03, but I've been on Exchange 07 for a while now so going back is the weird part...plus I don't know what issues Exchange 03 on SBS has versus the normal "version". • Exchange emails not delivering for one user

  We have an Exchange infrastructure going through a migration from 2003 SP2 (call it ExOld) to 2010 (ExNew). All users are now on the new server, but mail is still being directed to ExOld until testing is complete. ExNew sends emails directly to the internet. For one particular user, emails don't seem to be being reliably delivered, but the odd thing is that it's not all emails. I can see external emails in his inbox. If I send an internal email it works fine. If I send an email from Gmail to him it doesn't get through. If I telnet from outside to ExOld I can send an email to him. If I telnet from outside to ExNew I can send an email to him. • One user sometimes gets an unknown certificate error opening Outlook

  Let me clarify a little. This isn't an unknown certificate error it's an unknown certificate error in so much as I can't figure out where the certificate comes from. This happens on a Win 7 Enterprise machine connecting to Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010. The error he gets is that the root is not trusted because it's a self-signed cert. Take a look at this screenshot because even if I had generated this myself I wouldn't have put "SomeOrganizationalUnit" or "SomeCity" or "SomeState", etc. (Red block covers our domain name.) I'm a little concerned this is a symptom of a security breach. Exchange 2010 has three certificates installed but none of them are this certificate. They all have different expiration dates (one is expired) and different meta-data. edit: There are two scenarios that I see the certificate warning and one of them I can reliably repeat. When the user leaves his computer on over night Outlook pops the Security Warning window. I don't know what time this happens. Using Outlook Anywhere if I connect to Exchange externally via a cellular USB modem the Security Warning window will appear every time I close and reopen Outlook. Whether I say Yes or No does not make a difference on whether or not I can connect to Exchange and send/receive email. In other words, I can always connect to Exchange. I've checked my two Exchange servers and my Cisco router for a certificate that matches this one and I can't find it. edit 2: Here is a screenshot of the Security Alert window. (I've been calling it Security Warning... My mistake.) edit 3: I stopped seeing this error several weeks ago but I can't tie it to any single event (because I just sort of realized that warning had stopped showing up) but I think I found the source of the certificate. Last week I found out that the certificate on our website DomainA.com was invalid. I knew that our web admin had installed a valid certificate so when I look into the problem I found out I was being presented with the invalid certificate that this posting is in regards to. The Exchange server's domain is mail.DomainA.com so I can only guess that Outlook was passing this invalid certificate through as it did some kind of check on DomainA.com. This issue is still a mystery because the certificate warning stopped appearing several weeks ago whereas the invalid certificate issue on the website was only fixed last week. It ended up being a problem with the website control panel. The valid certificate was installed but not being served for some reason and instead the self-signed cert was being served.

  previously we have requested a wildcard ssl certificate from godaddy for our major domain. one of the reasons was the new established exchange server 2010. usually you require following names included in certificiate: FQDN (e.g. mail.whatever.com) Hostname (mail) Domain name (whatever.com) Autodiscover.whatever.com MX Record with the wildcard certificate these are all covered (except of the local hostname). During creation/importing of the ssl certificate into exchange 2010, exchange first asks, if a wildcard certificate is used and then encounters an error - due to the certificate is a wildcard certificate and not a certificate especially generated for the FQDN, SSL for POP and IMAP can not be provided. couldn't find any workaround or solution for this on google, so I hope, maybe some one here has an answer or solution for me! :) the exchange 2010 is running on a windows server 2008 R2 enterprise. thanks in advance and best regards, sise

  Hi I just installed outlook 2010, and saw this conversation feature. However my sent mails does not appear in the conversation. How do I make it appear there? PS: I'm not using exchange. Is there a way to do this without exchange? EDIT: There's something Weird happening. I'm testing this and it appears to work only sometimes. And When I Try this at the other company's computer that uses Exchange, but don't have exchange Cached mode enabled this doesn't work. And the option Show messages from other folders is not even there.

  We have two interconnected Exchange organizations: Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2013. When users ask for read receipt in Outlook these receipts are delivered correctly within each organization. However when Exchange 2003 users send messages to Exchange 2013 users the read receipts are delivered to the Exchange 2013 recipients and instead of the message senders. We analyzed the message content at the recipient side and it looks like the message arrives with an incorrect ReadReceiptEntryID field. The field must contain the sender's address but it contains the recipient address instead. What can be the cause of the issue?

• Excel 2010 data validation warning (compatibility mode)

  We have some legacy worksheets that were created in Excel 2003, which are used by LabVIEW-based test automation software. The current LabVIEW software can only handle the legacy .xls format, so we're forced to keep these worksheets as-is for the time being. We've migrated to Office 2010 and when working with these worksheets, I see this warning: "The following features in this workbook are not supported by earlier versions of Excel. These features may be lost or degraded when you save this workbook in the currently selected file format. Click Continue to save the workbook anyway. To keep all of your features, click Cancel and then save the file in one of the new file formats." "Significant loss of functionality" "One or more cells in this workbook contain data validation rules which refer to values on other worksheets. These data validation rules will not be saved." When I click 'Find', some cells that do indeed have validation rules are highlighted, but those rules are all on the same worksheet! We're using simple list-based validation, with some cells off to the side containing the valid values (for example, cell B4 has a List with Source "=$D$4:$E$4") This makes no sense to me whatsoever. One, the workbook was created in Excel 2003, so obviously we couldn't implement a feature that doesn't exist. Secondly, the modifications we're making don't involve changing the validation rules at all. Thirdly, the complaint that Excel is making is incorrect! All of the rules are on the same worksheet as the target. As if the story wasn't bizarre enough: I went ahead and saved the worksheet with Excel 2010. I then went to an old computer back in the lab and opened the document with Excel 2003. Guess what - the validations were untouched! My questions are: is this a legitimate bug in Excel 2010, or is this some exotic error in the legacy .xls worksheet that is confusing the heck out of Excel 2010? Has anyone else observed this issue working in compatibility mode?

• Moving MS Exchange 2007 to another machine

  We have a machine that has been chugging along with the burden of both Exchange and DC and DNS all with SBS 2008. We have a better machine now and I'd like to move Exchange 2007 to that machine and take it off of this machine. In fact, I'm planning on formatting the old machine and get rid of SBS all together because it is making the machine SLOW. How would I go about making the move? I've read on previous versions of Exchange (2000), that all you do is install Exchange on the new machine and then start moving mailboxes one after the other. Well, what about all the different rules we have in place? How do those get moved? How do we de-commission the old exchange and set up the new exchange as the primary one? Come to think of it, how do we have both exchanges recognize each other on the same domain? TIA

• Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2, built-in font smoothing

  I've just installed Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 onto my Windows XP to evaluate it and check whether it meets my preferences the way it did before. Okay, I've temporary defeated an urgent bug with a strange workaround (I could not open any file from the Solution Explorer), and it left bad memories to me. But however, it's okay. The first thing I've seen just opening the code editor was ClearType font rendering. Wow, so unexpectedly. I must note that I do not use standard Windows rendering techniques, but I still prefer GDI++, a font renderer developed by Japanese developers. (GDI++ allows to render the fonts in Mac/Win-Safari style over entire Windows.) Personally for me, GDI++ reaches the great font-rendering results allowing me to use the Dejavu Sans Mono font with really nice smoothing in Visual Studio 2008 (VS 2005 too, though VS 2005 crashes in this case). But GDI++ cannot affect Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 text editor - it uses ClearType (right?), and it does not care about the system font smoothing settings. It could be an editor based on WPF, right? So as far as I can see, I can't use GDI++ anymore because it uses Windows GDI(+) but no WPF? So I've got several questions: Is it possible to disable VS 2010 b2 built-in ClearType or override it with another font smoother? Is it possible to install a Safari-like font renderer for Visual Studio 2010 [betas]? Thanks a lot.

  I see that there were ways in Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 to just put in an LDAP query and it would populate the group for you. Is there any way to do that in Exchange 2010? I know there's dynamic distribution groups but I don't want to create the group based on one of their pre-set queries and I don't want to mess around with "custom attributes". I just want to put an LDAP query in there and make it run it to populate the distribution group.

  I have migrated about 45 mailboxes at this point from our single instance of Exchange 2003 to a High Availability Exchange 2010 environment successfully. However one mailbox moved successfully and the user is able to send and receive e-mail internally and externally with no problems but they do not show up in the Global Address List. The OAB is owned by an Exchange 2010 mailbox server. What am I missing?

  Very often when I open up Outlook 2010 and start doing actions in it, it will hang and become non responsive. I have tried letting it finish, but it never does come back (up to 20 minutes of letting it try). I generally have to restart Outlook and try again. Usually after about an hour of doing this, Outlook somehow snaps out of it and works for the rest of the day. It's generally in the morning (though I doubt that's the key variable). Generally, the emails that cause problems are HTML/formatted, but not always. What I've done so far to troubleshoot: Install Latest Outlook Hotfix (I think Dec 14, 2010) Start Outlook in Safe Mode Neither of those steps seem to make a difference. Usually - after about 10-15 restarts of Outlook on any given day, then it starts working thereafter. My next step is to uninstall/reinstall Office 2010, but I'm hoping someone has seen this and knows what to do about it - though not sure. My configuration is like this: Microsoft Online Services (using Microsoft's Sign In App) - Connecting to Exchange I have two other Exchange accounts in this profile (new feature in 2010) connected through Outlook Anywhere. Life Meeting Conferencing Add In I've disabled the People tab/add in. I've disabled the "Send to Bluetooth" add-in. Not sure what else to do. Thanks in advance.

What I've done so far to troubleshoot: Install Latest Outlook Hotfix (I think Dec 14, 2010) Start Outlook in Safe Mode Neither of those steps seem to make a difference. Usually - after about 10-15 restarts of Outlook on any given day, then it starts working thereafter. My next step is to uninstall/reinstall Office 2010, but I'm hoping someone has seen this and knows what to do about it - though not sure. My configuration is like this: Microsoft Online Services (using Microsoft's Sign In App) - Connecting to Exchange I have two other Exchange accounts in this profile (new feature in 2010) connected through Outlook Anywhere. Life Meeting Conferencing Add In I've disabled the People tab/add in. I've disabled the "Send to Bluetooth" add-in. Not sure what else to do?

  I have a client that is divesting a business unit into a new AD forest, Exchange org, etc. We're using Quest tools to migrate users and mailboxes. However, I have to build the new infrastructure to match the old one. In the old one, we're using Managed Folder Mailbox Policies to limit (or allow) retention. They started with Exchange 2007 and never upgraded to Retention Policies; oh well. So, in the old environment, when you use a 2007 server to define a new Managed Content Setting, you can pick "Email" from the dropdown for MessageClass. • Exchange 2010: Possible to close for incomming mails for specific acount and reply with "no longer a

  Hi, I was wondering if it is possible, in Exchange server 2010, to disable a mailbox account, lets call it mailuser and if anyone sends a E-mail for [email protected] then it will send a mail back with some sort of standard "This E-mail is no longer in use. Please write to [email protected] instead" mail. I know I can create an "out-of-office" reply from the users outlook, but it would be so much faster to do it within the exchange server.
