• Internet connection sharing windows server 2008 R2

  I have one windows server 2008 r2, and that server has 4 network interfaces (3 private, 1 internet connection). I would like to share internet connection with other 3 networks. Windows server firewall should make logs of data that is transfered. It should not be possible to connect directly to private networks from internet. How could I do it? Edit: I tried with NAT in RRAS, but it doesn't work. Here is the configuration: Server: IP private:192.168.0.1 IP public: xx.xx.xx.xx client IP:192.168.0.2 Default gateway: 192.168.0.1 Public and private interface added in NAT section of RRAS.

  All of a sudden my ssh connection to server has been damaged. I honestly don't know if this caused any damages or not. But it's prompted that /etc/ssh/sshd_config was stored as /etc/ssh/sshd_config.rpmnew which was quite normal. I've seen similar posts while googling, but almost all of them suggests that I should check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny, which in my case, I can't. I can not connect to the box to see what's going on there. I rebooted the box, through web interface of server provider, and it even got worse. • Network / Internet diagnostic tool to locate an error?

  Hi, I’m facing some difficulties with the Internet / network at my work and I have trouble locating the precise error and when and how it occurs. The problem is that the client machines in the house sporadic is disconnected to the Internet. I’m some what new so I haven’t that much inside in the network and apparently neither has my predecessor. What I am requesting and hoping you guys knows about is, if there exist some kind of network monitor tool I can install and run and it will periodically check the network, the Internet connection etc. and record to logs. Then, if there suddenly arises a problem some time of the day in some part of the network or the Internet connection, I can check it perhaps the next day. I’ve just downloaded and installed Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 application and hopeful it can give me some answers on where the instability is located but I still would like a tool to make different checks and test in some time interval. Do anyone know about such a program or another kind of performance / diagnostic tool / method I can use? Sincere Jesper

• Share 3G connection over WiFi-LAN network

  This is how I have established network between my PC and my laptop at home (being novice in networking, it took me few days to achieve the feat). And it is working perfectly. I can easily share files between them. Laptop IP Address: 192.168.1.4 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2 Desktop IP Address: 192.168.1.5 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2 ASUS RT-N10+ Router IP Address: 192.168.1.4 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2 I have connected the Desktop PC to the router using a LAN cable, and laptop to router over WiFi. Both, PC and laptop are running on Windows 7 OS, are on same HomeGroup, have same username / password. Also, I have connected the Ethernet cable to LAN port 1 of the router. Click here to view a graphical representation of the network. Can't post image here, because I don't have 10 reputation points. Now, what I want is use connect to Internet using a 3G USB modem on one device and share it over the network on the other. I tried Huawei and Micromax 3G USB modem. Both obtain a new IP address whenever I connect to Internet (means they have dynamic IPs). Rest, both have Subnet Mask as 255.255.255.255 and Default Gateway as 0.0.0.0. In that case, I cannot directly share Internet from the modem. Preferred DNS is blank for now in both, laptop and PC. What I am planning to do is to connect to Internet on laptop using the 3G modem and share the Internet connection over laptop's Wi-Fi (as hotspot) using Connectify, which I have done already. That, I suppose, will broadcast a static IP to connect to. Now what I can't figure out is that what changes should I make to the network settings of the router and the PC so that PC connects to the Internet broadcast by Connectify? Is that possible on the first hand? Please note that I am trying to implement the network without spending anything extra (for purchasing as USB WiFi adapter for PC, of course, which could have made the life lot easier for me). Suppose there are 2-4 splitters between the cable line coming into a building before the connection to a cable modem, does this negatively effect the latency, throughput, etc of a cable internet connection by any measurable amount? Is there a maximum number of times that a coaxial cable can be split into multiple internet and TV connections before QoS suffers?

• Windows 7 laptop constantly dropping internet connection

  I have scoured the web for an answer and failed to find one. I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7 64-Bit. I have the computer connected via Wifi. Now, I am no beginner with the Internet, or anything related to computers, as I have grown up teaching everyone around me how to use computers, and went to college for IT. Everything on my network works flawlessly at all times, except for this evil laptop. The worst part is that I fixed this once before a few years back and recently had to replace the hard drive and re-install the OS, but cannot for the life of me remember what I did to make this problem go away. I am in my browser, connected to the Internet. I click a link. Suddenly no internet access. All I do is click down on the WiFi connection in the task bar, disconnect and reconnect immediately. Internet is back the moment I hit "connect." I have read many people had the same issues as I am having, but they all had triggers or other network issues. I have no trigger (this happens literally five to six times per minute no matter what I am doing) and I have no problems with my router, modem, or any other devices or computers on said network. As I am a web designer, and like to test my work live at every turn- this is going to result in this laptop being in pieces if I can't get it fixed soon. If more info is needed, let me know and I will provide. Thanks for any help offered! EDIT: Network Card: Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC Network state reads as "No Internet Access" when the problem first occurs, then magically I have Internet access for about ten seconds once I disconnect and reconnect. I have turned off IPV6, I have turned off power saving options for the network adapter, no viruses. Any new ideas? Also, I had to disconnect and reconnect four times just to get to this edit screen- and will likely have to do the same just to post it- it's that bad.

• Java works under Firefox but crashes Internet Explorer

  Java works under Firefox and Chrome but not under IE. Here's what I tried (the advice normally given on forums): Java applet activated in tools - internet options - security tab - personnalise - Java applets Activated in tools - manage add-ons - tool bars and extensions - Java (tm) SSV2 helper - Activate Activated in tools - internet options - advanced tab - Use JRE for applet I've also deleted my temporary internet files (with Ccleaner), Reinstalled IE8 It is also set as the default Java for IE through the control panel - Java - Advanced tab - default Java for browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. (also tried with 1.6.0_31) Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :) edit: I have activated the ActiveX controls through manage add-ons - all add-ons but now, although the coffe cup loading screen appears (which did not before) it makes IE crash (which is new). I might have fiddled too much with the registry by trying to completely remove Java to reinstall it, so I ran "rereg" (a tool to repair dlls and their registry entries) without success.

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction?   I found I have problem to be a little addictive with surfing on internet. I am trying to find a free ware, (or software), that can help me for exemple to be just 2 hours per day on internet. Like it is counting the minutes and than stop working. not just 2 hours in one time, but in whole day.... maybe that it has different modes (2hours together, in whole day, 2hours + little reserve time) but I need something that really take me away access from internet :) Just counting time, is not enough for me :) Hope we will find something because, I just can't avoid not to loose 4 hours on internet. • Problem with PPTP VPN and internet

  Hello, I have an internet connection the following way : Internet Modem <- FireWall(not a router, a firewall) <- PC Everything is setup so my pc has an external ip address, and my firewall takes care of blocking bad stuff. I connect by VPN to an external network, so I added a new connection using Windows Xp's "New connection wizard" (the vpn client that comes with Windows XP), it's a PPTP connection so I used all default settings. I put the PPTP server's IP, my username and password and I succesfully connected. I was able to have access to the external VPN ressources. The only problem is everytime I connect to this VPN, my computer cannot connect to the web anymore, no msn, no ping, no web. Is there anything special I should be doing?

  I have 128 KB/s (1 Mbit/s) internet connection. Not quite fast for downloading big files, but it is okay for internet browsing. When I start big file dowload, I cannot surf the web normally: pages appears slowly, especially pictures there. Therefore I pause downloading, but I'm regularly spending much time on reading articles or leaving the computer alone, when I can allow the file being dowloaded. Is there any software that can automize the process of pausing and resuming download or simply automatically regulate internet speed for each application using Internet? I download files using different software and protocols (Download Master for http, ftp; uTorrent for torrents; many other programs for updating themselves), so I don't want to be tied to particular program for downloading.

• Disable/configure Back and Forward through mouse wheel in Internet Explorer

  I have a problem with Internet Explorer (version 7 on Windows XP). Sometimes (not always) when you use the mouse wheel to scroll a page up/down it instead chooses to go back or forth in the web browsing history. This behavior is the same as when you hold the shift-key simultaneously using the wheel. My guess is that Internet Explorer somehow gets misled by something and thinks that I'm actually pressing shift. This is in turn maybe an artifact of the fact that this particular session is a remote-desktop session originating from Linux (Ubuntu). Needless to say the problem can be quite irritating and the alternative of completely turning off the wheel functionality doesn't seem like an option as other applications would suffer greatly from this. Anyway back to my question(s): Is it possible to map the shift+wheel to a simple wheel event for Internet Explorer? Is it possible to disable the shift+wheel event for Internet Explorer? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

• Block a machine from accessing the internet

  After some confirmation that I have thinking right in this scenario. We have a number of wired and wireless machines which presently have direct internet access. I also have a Linux (Ubuntu) server which is used as a file server for the network. Essentially I would like to be able to turn internet access on and off for machines. My plan is to block these machines by MAC address at the router. I would then set up a proxy server on the Linux box (ie Squid) so that the machines I wish to restrict can access the internet via the proxy. As I can adjust access via ACLs in squid, I would be able to switch on or off a machines access to the internet without having to further adjust the router's MAC rules. And of course I could go further and create a few scripts to assist with this admin task. Does this seem sound and have I over looked anything? Any help greatly appreciated. Simon.

• 32 bit programs can't access Internet in Windows 7 64 bit

  I recently got a new ASUS laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. It worked OK for a while but a couple of days ago, suddenly I couldn't access the Internet any more. After narrowing down the problem, I've reached the conclusion that what's happened is that 32 bit programs are suddenly not able to use the Internet, but 64 bit applications work just fine. Examples of programs that DON'T work any more: Google chrome Firefox Internet Explorer 8 World of Warcraft Examples of programs that DO work: Internet Explorer 8 (64 bit) ping (command line) nslookup (command line) ftp (command line) I'm pretty sure that those command line apps are 64 bit native. A re-install of Windows using the recovery partition on the laptop did fix the problem temporarily, but now it's back again. And I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place getting someone to take the responsibility for this; the vendor says to talk to ASUS, ASUS says it's a software issue, and Microsoft doesn't give support on OEM licenses... Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

• VPN connection sharing for Ubuntu guest

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 guest on Windows XP host. I need to use a specific VPN software that works only on Windows. How should I configure virtualbox/guest so that the VPN connection would be visible on guest? I already tried NAT and bridged network settings. With both of these options I get only normal internet connection to work, but sites requiring VPN don't work on guest, only on host.
