• How to implement a lazy loaded Silverlight data grid without using paging

  Using the Business Application template from the brand new released RIA Services, you can see lots of examples using the data grid on top of a DomainDataSource in combination with a DataPager. The properties PageSize and LoadSize can be used to adjust the amount of data to be displayed in one page and the data that is prefetched in the background. Now I'd like to have a data grid with a scrollbar and no pager. The underlying DomainDataSource should load only the data that is diplayed in the grid. It should trigger another load, when the user scrolls down to items that are not yet in the data context. Is there any sample implementation how to do this?

• How to use a CTabCtrl in a MFC dialog based application ?

  I need to do something which i expected to be was simple - create a tab control which has 2 tabs, implying 2 modes of operation for my app. When user clicks on Tab1, he'll be presented with some buttons and textboxes, and when he clicks Tab2, some other input method. I noticed that there was a CTabCtrl class thats used in MFC to add tabs. However, once I added the tab ctrl using the UI designer, I couldn't specify how many tabs there'll be using property window. Searching on the net, I found some examples but all of them required you to derive from CtabCtrl , create 2 or more child dialogs etc and to write your own custom class. My question is, since I want to do something so basic, why couldn't I do it using the familiar Add Event handler/Add member variable wizard and then handle everything else inside my app's class ? Surely, the default CTabCtrl class can do something useful without needing to derive from it ?

• JQuery-tmpl Template Switching Not working.

  I'm trying to implement "more/less" functionality using the official jquery-tmpl plugin. I've looked at the examples, but I cannot seem to get the functionality to work in my own implementation. When I click on one of my "More" buttons, I seem to get an error thrown of: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'tmpl' of object #<an Object> is not a function This is my implementation here From what I can tell, the example I'm trying to replace is doing the following: Render the "Master" template On-click: Find the corresponding template object (tmplItem) to the clicked element. Pass in reference to a new template. Call the update function to re-render. Have I understood the documentation wrong? From what I can tell I'm doing the same thing as the example on the official documentation.

• Unable to access LinkedIn conections using python rauth library

  I was trying out this example at https://github.com/litl/rauth/blob/master/examples/linkedin-web.py I get a 403, Access to connections denied error and it returns KeyError: '_total'. r_network option is present. Has anyone faced this issue? Also if you look at http://docs.python-requests.org/en/latest/user/quickstart/#oauth-authentication, the 'requests' library is initializing resource_owner_key, resource_owner_secret apart from the application keys. Not sure how these are getting passed from the 'rauth' library, Was wondering if that was causing this 403 error.

• Entity framework (3.5): How to translate a certain LINQ query to eSQL?

  Hi there, I have the following LINQ query that I need to translate to Entity SQL /eSQL): return (ObjectQuery<User>) from user in Users where !user.Roles.Any(r => r.AnIntegerProperty < 0) select user; User.Roles is an navigation property to the n:m relation to Roles and there also is a Role.Users navigation property the other way round. There aren't User_Roles or Roles_User Entities available in the model, and I can't add these. I also can't use the LINQ statement here, because I need to add .OrderBy("it." + propertyname) (comes from another source, can't change that too) later on which is not possible if the ObjectQuery is build with linq. So how do I translate this to eSQL? And where can I find good eSQL samples? I searched for a whole day until now and must admit that eSQL reference is lousy and there aren't any usable examples around the web.

  Hi, I'm trying to produce a master/detail datagrid view. I'm using object data providers. Now I have seen many examples when the argument of a method for returning the records for the detail view is a string, like in this example: <!-- the orders datasource --> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="OrdersDataProvider" ObjectType="{x:Type local:OrdersDataProvider}"/> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="Orders" MethodName="GetOrdersByCustomer" ObjectInstance="{StaticResource OrdersDataProvider}" > <ObjectDataProvider.MethodParameters> <x:Static Member="system:String.Empty"/> </ObjectDataProvider.MethodParameters> </ObjectDataProvider> But in my case, the argument that I want to pass is the int ID not the string. Can I still somehow use the object data provider to return all the records from the database for the detail view if the argument passed to a method has to be an int?   i have some parsed data in two files. i need to send these to a webserver of a website. i also need to be logged into the webserver first. i am new to this web interaction thing. i just need to know how might i go about doing this. i am learning the libcurl library so i guess in can send standard HTTP POST messages. i will make a simple webserver to test it myself. can anyone tell me what kind of interaction is needed. by that i mean how do i send the username and password information, know that i am logged in and then be send the files. may be some examples of Form Posts which i believe is what i shud be doing right now.

• C++ Microsoft SAPI: How to set Windows text-to-speech output to a memory buffer?

  Hi all, I have been trying to figure out how to "speak" a text into a memory buffer using Windows SAPI 5.1 but so far no success, even though it seems it should be quite simple. There is an example of streaming the synthesized speech into a .wav file, but no examples of how to stream it to a memory buffer. In the end I need to have the synthesized speech in a char* array in 16 kHz 16-bit little-endian PCM format. Currently I create a temp .wav file, redirect speech output there, then read it, but it seems to be a rather stupid solution. Anyone knows how to do that? Thanks!

  Hi there So, say I have a string to parse with a given format that maps to a tree like data structure. The string is kinda similar to a folder path, and the structure is similar to a file structure, except its got some rules so for something@cat1@otherSomething you would get /something/cat1/otherSomething for something@cat2@otherSomething you would get /something/cat2/otherSomething other examples /OtherThing/cat1/otherSomething/Blah /OtherThing/cat4/otherSomething Where something, cat1, otherSomethign, etc are some sort of instances of ICategory There are certain rules that control what subcategories are valid and which subcategories are not acceptable, at the moment I m considering a heavy Object hierachy, but I know this is not a flexible solution, I d prefer the categories to be a bit more general but again, since there are rules about what can go next I m not sure how to do this. An example of a rule can be: OtherThing can only have subcategories cat1 and cat4 ( anything else is invalid) An option would be to use some sort of convention based aproach to instantiate a particular class given a subsection of the string(like cat4) but it seems a bit too complex, I m all ears Thanks

  Hi Guys, this is more of a subjective Question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm about to develop a very data-centric application that has to run inside the browser. The frontend will be Silverlight, backed by a Fluent NHibernate service that runs server side. The problem here is: Wherever I look for data-driven silverlight app I wind up finding Silverlight RIA services examples, but nothing on how to build this without some ADO.NET stuff involved. I have little to no knowledge in WCF so far, but from the limited research I did it seems like WCF is pretty much the only way to let the client talk to the server. Are there any tutorials/best practices on how to write a Silverlight MVVM app that provides CRUD for a non-EF database? Suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks PS: I can't use .NET remoting. The backend has to run on IIS6 :(

• When and why will an OS initialise memory to 0xCD, 0xDD, etc. on malloc/free/new/delete?

  I know that the OS will sometimes initialise memory with certain patterns such as 0xCD and 0xDD. What I want to know is when and why this happens. When Is this specific to the compiler used? Do malloc/new and free/delete work in the same way with regard to this? Is it platform specific? Will it occur on other operating systems, such as Linux or VxWorks? Why My understanding is this only occurs in Win32 debug configuration, and it is used to detect memory overruns and to help the compiler catch exceptions. Can you give any practical examples as to how this initialisation is useful? I remember reading something (maybe in Code Complete 2) that it is good to initialise memory to a known pattern when allocating it, and certain patterns will trigger interrupts in Win32 which will result in exceptions showing in the debugger. How portable is this?

  I know that cons returns a seq and conj returns a collection. I also know that conj "adds" the item to the optimal end of the collection, and cons always "adds" the item to the front. However, for lists they seem identical. user=> (conj '(3 2 1) 4) (4 3 2 1) user=> (cons 4 '(3 2 1)) (4 3 2 1) Are there any examples using lists where conj vs. cons exhibit different behaviors, or are they truly interchangeable? Phrased differently, is there an example where a list and a seq cannot be used equivalently?

  Hello all, I'm writing a CLI for a music-media-platform. One of the features is going to be that you can directly play YouTube videos from the CLI. I don't really have an idea to do it but this one sounded the most reasonable: I'm going to use of those sites where you can download music from YouTube, e.g. http://keepvid.com/ - then I directly stream & play this -- but I have one problem. • Multiple Progress Bar States in WPF

  I'm currently developing a WPF application in C# and I want to have a progress bar control that can be in a "paused" state as well as an "error" state. Much like this: http://wyday.com/windows-7-progress-bar/ Unfortunately, that's a Windows Forms control and implementing it via a Windows Forms Host proved to be incompatible. My question is, how can I go about accomplishing a similar effect in WPF? Is it possible to make multiple "states" of a progress bar? Is this kind of operation in WPF but I'm just looking over it? I'm mainly talking about the progress bar itself here, I'm pretty sure I know how to achieve this in the taskbar. All help is appreciated, especially code examples. Thanks!

• MS SQL replace sequence of same characters inside Text Field (TSQL only)

  I have a text column varchar(4000) with text: 'aaabbaaacbaaaccc' and I need to remove all duplicated chars - so only one from sequence left: 'abacbac' It should not be a function, Procedure or CLR - Regex solution. Only true SQL select. Currently I think about using recursive WITH clause with replace 'aa'-'a', 'bb'-'b', 'cc'-'c'. So recursion should cycle until all duplicated sequences of that chars would be replaced. DO you have another solution, perhaps more Permormant one? PS: I searched through this site about different replace examples - they didnt suit to this case.

Is it still good to have two separate classes only to split some code into two parts and to separate functional elements?

• Where are the new languages?

  Most now mainstream/popular (interpreted|scripting) programming languages were created around the 1990's. (Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP just to name a few). How many people knew about those languages around 1-2 years after they had been first published? Are there languages with potential of becoming as important as e.g.: Python or PHP being developed at the moment? I mean ... is there someone even seriously trying to create a new one? If the first version of a programming language is published and nearly nobody knows about it, as it was with all the languages I've mentioned above, where could I find out? Is there some sort of "list" or "network" dealing just with non-language-specific news? Is the area where Perl, Python, Ruby and PHP fit in already fully covered? Do you know of concrete examples of new programming languages being seriously developed or rising at the moment? (Except Google's go!)

• Process for linking static ObjC libraries in XCode

  I'm trying to link to a static library and I keep getting linker errors. I've found a few sites that post examples but I have not been able to see what I am doing wrong. First I create a project that will link to my lib add existing files find my .xcodeproj file select "Copy items into destination groups folder"... Select my host project as Add To Targets. Then I add a direct dependency to my host app expand targets double click MyHost.app click + under direct dependencies select my lib Then I set build flags double click MyHost application icon in Groups and Files. click the build tab then I set the OtherLinerFlag to -ObjC then I set Header Search Paths to my header file location for my static library. I pass the compile stage but any classes in my static lib cause linker error: literal-pointer@_OBJC@_cls_refs@SomeClass in MyHost.o thanks!

• What's all the hype over objectsets in Entity Framework 4?

  I am an intermediate user of EF in .net 3.5 and have recently moved to working with .net 4. One thing i keep coming across when reading various tutorials is the use of ObjectSets instead of ObjectQuerys and that they are a great new feature. What is so great about them? Reading this MSDN article titled "Working with ObjectSet (Entity Framework)" It shows two examples on how to add a Product.. one for 3.5 and another for 4.0. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee473442.aspx Through my lack of knowledge I am possibly bringing up a seperate point here, but i never added a Product like this: //In .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, use the following code: using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.AddObject("Products", newProduct); } I would have just used context.AddToProducts(newProduct); Please enlighten me.
