  I have created an avmutablecomposition and tried to use insertEmptyTimeRange to generate 1 minute of silence. This doesn't appear to be working. I have also tried creating an avmutablecompositiontrack using addMutableTrackWithMediaType:preferredTrackID: and then insertEmptyTimeRange on the track and still no success. To give some background on my app, I allow users to add audio samples a timeline and then playback or export and this is working really well using the av classes. The problem is that I need to make sure that the audio is exactly 1 min (for example). Regardless of the info about my specific app above, is it possible to insert an empty time range into a comp or comptrack?

  With two ViewControllers, MyView 1 and MyView 2, is there possible to add a subview to MyView2 from MyView1.m? I have tried: MyView2 * screen = [[MyView2 alloc]initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; [screen.view addSubView:mySubView]; But my new instance of MyView 2 has no connection to the 'visible' ViewController on MyView2, right? To clarify, the ViewController that is showing, is MyView1. I want MyView1 to be able to add a subview to the MyView2 view. Thanks

• How to read an image from disk and block until its read?

  I'm loading 5 images from disk but I want the 1st image I read to show as soon as possible. Right now I do UIImage *img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path]; in a for loop but since imageWithContentsOfFile:path isn't blocking all 5 images wind up getting read from disk before the first one will appear (because they're all using up I/O). I confirmed this by just load one and it appeared on screen faster than if I load all 5. I'd like to load the 1st image and block until its fully read and shown before loading the next 4 or load the 1st one and be notified when its done before loading the next 4 but I can't figure out a way to do it. None of the 'WithContentsOfFile' methods for data or image block and they don't notify or have delegate methods. Any suggestions? Thanks

• Message sent to deallocated instance which has never been released

  Hello, I started dealing with NSOperations and (as usual with concurrency) I'm observing strange behaviour. In my class I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when one button in the UI is pressed I initialize the array: postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; and setup the operations (together with dependencies). In the operations I create a custom object and try to add to the array: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; and while adding I get: -[CFArray retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3b40c30 which is strange as I don't release the array anywhere in my code (I did, but when the problem started to appear I commented all the release operations to be sure that they are not the case). I also used to have @synchronized section like below: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; @synchronized (self.postResultsArray) { [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; } but the problem was the same (however, the error was for the synchronized operation). Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

• Zooming to UIView and it's sub-views

  Hi, I have a UIView which I can zoom to (as it is set as a subview of UIScrollView). UIView has UILabel, UITextField, etc. If I just zoom to the UIView, then of course label and text field get fuzzy (the same effect if you are zooming to the image file without changing image resolution). To solve the problem I need to increase the font size and sizes of the UILable and UITextField in according to the scale used to zoom in (scale is passed as a param by the UIScrollView). This is where I am getting confused. Changing frame (by increasing it width and height by zooming scale) I get all my elements (sub-views) repositions (because changing frame effects center and bounds) Question: 1. What would I need to do to zoom in to the sub-views and just increase the sub-view sizes while keeping them in the exactly the same position? thanks

• Is iOS6 simulator buggy when deleting applications?

  Frequently, when I try to delete an app on the iOS 6 simulator that comes with Xcode 4.5, the simulator freezes. What I do is just long press on the app. Delete dialog doesn't come up and the icons keep on wiggling. Quitting and re-opening the simulator does not help to delete the app. I've tried to delete the app's folder from /Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/5.1/Applications folder. Sometimes this helps but sometimes even this doesn't delete the icon from the simulator. This behavior is independent of the iOS version or the device model. It's the same whichever model/iOS I choose. The only thing that helps is using the Reset Contents and Settings option of the simulator. Do you experience the same frustration? If so, have you figured out a workaround besides resetting the simulator completely?

  I am trying to create a new method within my TapDetectingImageView file and it's giving me a warning that it cannot find the method even though I have it declared in the .h file. The specific three warnings all point to the @end line in the .m file when I build it and they say: "Incomplete implementation of class 'TapDetectingImageView' ; 'Method definition for '-functionA:' not found" ; "Method definition for '-functionB:' not found" What am I missing? Am I not allowed to do this in a protocol file like TapDetectingImageView?   I want to make a TableView of phrases which the user can edit. The "Phrase editor" is being displayed modally. My top left is for the Done button right now. I'm considering making a button at the end of the table for "new phrase". How would I implement that? Is it a good idea to follow the "contacts" application and make a + button in the top right, or Should I make the "Add Items" button at the end of the list? What are HIG implications of either one? • Resizing a UIView - expanding the top

  I have a UIView inside of a UIScrollView that I want to resize. I can increase the height easily by : CGRect frame = self.drawinView.frame; frame.size.height += 100; self.drawinView.frame = frame; self.drawinScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(frame.size.width, frame.size.height); And all is good. The above code will create a new area of the view at the bottom of the view that I can fill out. Now when I resize the view, I only want to be repainting the new portion of the view that has just been created. I dont want to have to repaint the whole view. However! I have run into difficulty when I need to expand the top of the view. Doing : CGRect frame = self.drawinView.frame; frame.origin.y -= 100; self.drawinView.frame = frame; self.drawinScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(500, 600); does not work. How can I do this without having to repaint the entire view?

What I did Create a project (Window-Based) Add 3 child classes (Window-Based too) Add a Tab Bar Controller to MainWindow.xib For each view under Tab Bar Controller, the 'Class', 'Name', 'Title' and 'NIB Name' are all set to connect to the corresponding class Add @class, IBOutlet are done in AppDelegate.h and AppDelegate.m In didFinishLaunchingWithOptions, I called [window addSubView: tabBarController.view]; Save and Run -- Tab Bar with 3 items can be seen But ... the 3 child views ARE NOT LOADED and SHOWN ... :( Anything that I missed ?   Can anyone please, oh sweet pain, please take me out of my misery by writing a simple example on how the heck you pass a number (int value) which gets created in 1 .m file to another .m file. In the apple demo application called QuartzDemo, there is a file called QuartzImages.m This file has the following line of code: [CODE]CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(pdf, 1);[/CODE] Notice the (pdf, 1) in that line. This number should be replaced with an integer variable. Now, there is also a file called MainViewController.m. In that file, there is a method? called -(void)viewDidLoad In that method, I want to assign a number to the integer variable which would replace the damn "1" with whatever number I want. I have been pulling my hair trying to get this done, reading beginning iPhone 3 Development book, dev documentation and God knows what not, without results. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Sigh.
