• How to merge or copy anonymous session data into user data when user logs in?

  This is a general question, or perhaps a request for pointers to other open source projects to look at: I'm wondering how people merge an anonymous user's session data into the authenticated user data when a user logs in. For example, someone is browsing around your websites saving various items as favourites. He's not logged in, so they're saved to an anonymous user's data. Then he logs in, and we need to merge all that data into their (possibly existing) user data. Is this done different ways in an ad-hoc fashion for different applications? Or are there some best practices or other projects people can direct me to?

• Which of the two ways should I use to insert tags into mysql?

  For each ad, I allow users to choose up to 5 tags. Right now, in my database, I have it like... Posting_id TagID 5 1 5 2 5 3 6 5 6 1 But i was thinking if I should make it like... Posting_id TagID 5 1 2 3 6 5 1 Then first option is much easier to insert and retrieve data. But if I have 100 posts with 3 tags each, that's 300 rows...so ALOT more rows The second option requires using explode() impode(), etc but it is much cleaner. Which option should I do and why? thanks!

I am trying to use this technique in a large form with a list(List) but when I post back, the Viewmodel.Order that should’ve contained list of items and activities return with the lists empty. • algorithm to combine data for linear fit?

  I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but you guys have been helpful with plenty of my CS homework in the past so I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm looking for an algorithm to blindly combine several dependent variables into an index that produces the best linear fit with an external variable. Basically, it would combine the dependent variables using different mathematical operators, include or not include each one, etc. until an index is developed that best correlates with my external variable. Has anyone seen/heard of something like this before? Even if you could point me in the right direction or to the right place to ask, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

• How to move iframe along the DOM without losing it's content?

  Is it possible? I have tried to move it, but iframe contents dissapear. Tried to get contents of iframe and place them in the new place but all handlers ofc dissapear. Tried to do the same, but with new jQuery 1.4.2 feature, that clones all events along with it. But it doesn't work :) So I have decided to ask here for help. How to move the damn iframe to another place in the document without losing it's contents? ^_^ Thanks Added: txtad_iframe = ad_container.find('iframe'); its_contents = txtad_iframe.contents(); its_body = its_contents.find("div:first").clone(true).insertAfter(cthis.find('#photos')); new_ad.append(its_body); Here i'm trying to copy contents to new ad container. But it doesn't work. Context banner doesn't react on click event. I have tried to move ad_container to container, but iframe body content dissapears.

• How to create a web framework in C# without ASP?

  I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

Created CustomControls.de-DE.resx inside the ResourceFolder. added some commonly used strings in that resx file changed the access modifier to Public added <SupportedCulture>de-DE;</SupportedCulture> in the csproj file. set System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("de-DE"); in sample.cs file before IntializeComponent(). my DateTimevalue was " 2 Day(s): 3 Hr (s): 5 Min(s) : 32 Sec (s) Getting only default language that is english. What i did wrong? Please help me anyone. Is anything i missed?

• AppDomain assemblies not being loaded correctly.

  Hi, We are doing the following in the Application_Start (Global.ascx.cs) for a WCF Service hosted by IIS 7.0 (integrated pipeline). var mapperConfigurations = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies() .SelectMany(a => a.GetExportedTypes().Where(t => typeof (IMapperConfiguration).IsAssignableFrom(t) && t.IsClass)) .ToList(); The web-service has 8-10 assemblies in its bin folder and each of them have multiple implementations of IMapperConfiguration. After an IIS Reset, no mapper configurations are found (found this using debug.write). However, this behaviour is inconsistent and at other times all implementations of IMapperConfiguration are found. When exactly does IIS load assemblies and what is wrong with this code? Thanks

• Cure for puzzle piece programming habbits?

  Even though I went to a decent CS school, I was still taught with the mentality of programming with puzzle pieces. By puzzle pieces I mean, looking up code segments at each step of the development process and adding them together as needed. Eventually gathering all of the pieces and having a properly working program. So as an example, if in my program the next step is to tokenize a string, I go to google and search "how do I tokenize a string in language". All instead of critically thinking about its implementation. I personally don't think its a very good way to program and I always seem to forget everything that I have searched for. So how can I get out of this puzzle piece mode of programmer that I was taught.

• Nesting a SharePoint Webpart inside of a User Control

  I know it's usually the other way around, but I have some extenuating requirements that must be met (read as "No one bothered to do the research and now I have to bail them out") I have a standard user control (ascx) that is to be imported into a SharePoint 2007 website. Due to a design constraint, a sharepoint web part that is also needed has to be nested inside of this user control. So in other words, the user control would have to look something like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="foo.ascx.cs" Inherits="foo" %> <div id="container"> ...snipped... <!-- SharePoint web part goes here --> ...snipped... </div> Any help would be appreciated.   I want to know why some ad codes or embed codes don't directly give you iframe code to embed on your site instead they give a javascript code which links to another javascript file on their server. The file on their server calls the iframe which serves the content. Why is this done and what are the benefits of this method. Example: this is the code issued by amazon: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/s/ads.js"></script> Which opens another javascript file that calls the iframe.

• Database migration

  We are migrating a client's own database schema to our own (both SQL-Server). Most of the mappings from their schema to ours have been indentified and rules been agreed on if the columns don't exactly align (default values etc.) Previously, depending on who was assigned the task, this has been done either with a mixture of sql scripts or one-off vb apps. I was thinking there must be a application (commercial or otherwise) where you can assign these mappings/rules and have it stream the data across. Surely the setting up and configuration of this tool would be less than the creation of ad-hoc scripts... Is there an app? Apart from the obvious 'be careful' any tips to mitigate the stress of a non-DBA porting one schema to another?

  I have created a VBScript which pulls the service tag, username, and computer name from a computer. What I need to do now is compile this information in a text document. How it's set up is as follows: We have an Active Directory Server, with a folder for login scripts. I have created a batch file to run this .vbs script, and the script works well so far. What I now need is for a file on the AD server, called "logging.txt", to be populated with the information that is created with the .vbs script.   Say you have an ASP.NET MVC project and are using a service layer, such as in this contact manager tutorial on the asp.net site: http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/iteration-4-make-the-application-loosely-coupled-cs If you have viewmodels for your views, is the service layer the appropriate place to provide each viewmodel? For instance, in the service layer code sample there is a method public IEnumerable<Contact> ListContacts() { return _repository.ListContacts(); } If instead you wanted a IEnumerable, should it go in the service layer, or is there somewhere else that is the "correct" place? Perhaps more appropriately, if you have a separate viewmodel for each view associated with ContactController, should ContactManagerService have a separate method to return each viewmodel? If the service layer is not the proper place, where should viewmodel objects be initialized for use by the controller?

• Which SharePoint Authentication Mode Should I be using for this scenario?

  I currently have a sharepoint 2010 site for which NTLM windows authentication has been enabled (by default it is against Active Directory I believe). I'd need to change this so that I have 1 custom login page which accepts username/password/domain and validates those information against the active directory, then if that was valid, I'll write logic to logon to another webservice which is located on another server and returns me a unique sessionId that I can store (as a cookie) for further use. Please could you advise which authentication mode I can use to create this custom login page? should that be FBA against AD? not sure how that works. Thanks in advance.

• SharePoint Returning a 401.1 for a Specific User/Computer

  We have a SharePoint Services 3.0 site set up supporting about 300 users right now. This report is isolated and has never been duplicated. We have one AD user who cannot log into the SharePoint site with his account from his machine and is subsequently returned a 401.1 error. If any other user tries to log on with their account from his machine, it works okay. If he moves to another machine and logs on, it works okay. The only solution to this point has been to install FireFox on the machine. When he authenticates with FF, everything is okay. Remedies tried so far: Cleared cookies/cache Turned off/on Integrated Windows Authentication in IE Downgraded IE 8 to IE 6 Removed site from Intranet Sites zone Renamed the machine Disjoined/Rejoined Domain

  Hi All, I am setting up a Continuous Integration server. I have one issue that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the tutorials. I have a ASP.net Web Application that I need to compile and them publish. My Problem is that I seem to be able to compile the app but when I attempt to use a buildPublisher this copies every thing including .svn files & folders and ms CS files. I am using an MSBuild task to compile my source. I tried setting my MSBuild Output Directory to directory but this didn't seem to have any effect. What am I not understanding? Thanks

  For example, let's say this is my abstract class: abstract class A{ int x; int y; void foo(A fooMe); } ...and B and C are two classes which extend A. What I want is for B to only be able to call foo() on other Bs, and for C to only be able to call foo() on other Cs. But I want this to be out of the hands of the programmer who's extending my A class - that is, I want a way to ensure this functionality within As code alone. What can I do? (If possible) I'd like to avoid any hack or generics solution that's too messy - I still want foo to be able to be called like this, for example: B b=new B(); B bb=new B(); bb.foo(b);

• How does the dataset determine the return type of a scalar query?

  I am attempting to add a scalar query to a dataset. The query is pretty straight forward, it's just adding up some decimal values in a few columns and returning them. I am 100% confident that only one row and one column is returned, and that it is of decimal type (SQL money type). The problem is that for some reason, the generated method (in the .designer.cs code file) is returning a value of type object, when it should be decimal. What's strange is that there's another scalar query that has the exact same SQL but is returning decimal like it should. How does the dataset designer determine the data type, and how can I tell it to return decimal?

• A beginner's question...How do I use $_POST instead of $_GET? (PHP)

  Okay, for all my coding so far I been using GETs and only $_POST on the same script. Ex: profile.php would show all the posts an user made and under each of their post, they can edit their post. • Do I have partial view/code behind in Flask?

  I'm migrating from C#.NET to Python/Flask. In .NET I have MasterPage, UserControl, PartialView each has its own code behind. e.g. I can save the check login functions in Login.ascx.cs and render the Login.ascx wherever I'd like to. If logged in, it shows the welcome message, else shows the login form. But in Flask I only found {% include 'login.html' %} which include the static html file. How can I implement this design in Flask?
