    I'm using the following code to post to the server which is then sent to a MYSQL query to find matches via search. $.ajax({ url: '/search/spotlight/', data: "q=" + $(this).val(), success: function(data) { } }); When Q's val has spaces in it, it's creating problems. I'm wondering if I'm handling this correctly? Do I need to encode the value in the AJAX call? Or is this a problem on my backend, which is ColdFusion Right now JQUERY is posting the following to the server: /search/spotlight/?q=FirstName%20LastName is this right?

  • Does Python Django support custom SQL and denormalized databases with no Foreign Key relationships?

    I've just started learning Python Django and have a lot of experience building high traffic websites using PHP and MySQL. What worries me so far is Python's overly optimistic approach that you will never need to write custom SQL and that it automatically creates all these Foreign Key relationships in your database. The one thing I've learned in the last few years of building Chess.com is that its impossible to NOT write custom SQL when you're dealing with something like MySQL that frequently needs to be told what indexes it should use (or avoid), and that Foreign Keys are a death sentence. Percona's strongest recommendation was for us to remove all FKs for optimal performance. Is there a way in Django to do this in the models file? create relationships without creating actual DB FKs? Or is there a way to start at the database level, design/create my database, and then have Django reverse engineer the models file?

  • Threaded Django task doesn't automatically handle transactions or db connections?

    I've got Django set up to run some recurring tasks in their own threads, and I noticed that they were always leaving behind unfinished database connection processes (pgsql "Idle In Transaction"). I looked through the Postgres logs and found that the transactions weren't being completed (no ROLLBACK). I tried using the various transaction decorators on my functions, no luck. I switched to manual transaction management and did the rollback manually, that worked, but still left the processes as "Idle". So then I called connection.close(), and all is well. But I'm left wondering, why doesn't Django's typical transaction and connection management work for these threaded tasks that are being spawned from the main Django thread?

  • any way to use ajax with jstl customtags without duplicating tags in javascript?

    I am working on a page where part of the content is loaded normally and the pages are rendered using jsps. The product images and links generated on that page are by custom jstl tags. When the user scrolls more products are requested from the server in a JSON response and then using UnderscoreJS templates they are rendered and added to the bottom of the page. Is there any way I can use the JSTL tags in Javascript without recreating them using a javascript function (it won't be possible to re-create all of them in javascript). What is the best way to handle this scenario? I guess I could return a rendered html response for the ajax call, but that would mean I have some ajax requests which use json and some that use rendered html...

Normally, I would use something like this: $(".overlay_popup").bind("click", function(){... but this didn't work for the overlay. Any ideas on how I can successfully do this?

    Hello, So i am writing a little app that compares a user's position against a database on web-based server written using Django and performs some functions with it. Accessing the browser's geolocation data (in supported browsers ) is fairly trivial using JavaScript. But what is the best way to allow the Django server to access the longitude and latitude variables? Is it best to wrap them up as a JSON object and send to the server via POST? Or is there some easier (Geo)Django-based way to access the Navigator.geolocation browser object. Please forgive a newbie a question like this, but my Google-Fuing only seems to find ways to insert variables into JavaScript via template tag, whereas I need it to work the other way! Any advice or code snippets greatly appreciated. Feel free to talk to me like I am an idiot.

    I would like to update one module in a python package with my own version of the module, with the following conditions: I want my updated module to live outside of the original package (either because I don't have access to the package source, or because I want to keep my local modifications in a separate repo, etc).     How do you show ajax gif only for a specific request? For example my page is calling a web-service every 30 seconds in a background, and I don't want to show the gif during this callback. On the other hand I want to show the gif, when I'am making manual ajax requests. I am using jQuery. edit: I didn't setup the global handler as shown here http://api.jquery.com/ajaxStart/, just by attaching to the .ajaxStart event. But I don't want to show/hide the gif manually on every request too. I need some generic solution.

I understand that the connect framework provides CSRF middleware, but I am not sure how to implement it in the scope of client-side Ajax post requests. There are bits and pieces about this in other Questions posted here in stackoverflow, but I have yet to find a reasonably complete example of how to implement it from both the client and server sides. Does anyone have a working example they care to share?

  • Why aren't my JQuery .ajax requests being made in parallel?

    I am trying to make two ajax requests in parallel using jQuery like this: var sources = ["source1", "source2"]; $(sources).each(function() { var source = this; $.ajax({ async: true, type: "POST", data: {post: "data", in: "here"}, url: "/my/url/" + source, success: function(data) { process_result(data); } }); }); I got the basic structure from this question, but my requests still aren't being made in parallel. "source1" takes a while to complete, and I can see on the server that the second request isn't made until the first is completed. As far as I can tell, I don't have any other active requests, so I don't think it's a problem with the maximum number of parallel requests for the browser. Am I missing something else here?

    I have Server A (www.example.com) sending information to Server B. I can only have HTML / JS on Server A (and have to do the "crunching" on Server B) so I'm trying to send form data via AJAX (trying to avoid a form post to Server B - don't ask). Obviously doing an AJAX call cross-domain is considered XSS and a big no-no, but if I were to put Server B in a subdomain (sub.example.com), would that be considered okay? How are cross-domain errors detected? Does the browser look up DNS records? IP address? Thanks in advance for you help.

    I've got portions of pages being replaced with HTML retrieved via AJAX calls. Some of the HTML coming back has JavaScript that needs to be run once in order to initialize the accompanying HTML (setting up event handlers). Since the document has already been loaded, when I replace chunks of HTML using jQuery's .html function, having jQuery(document).ready(function() {...}); doesn't execute since the page loaded long before and this is just a snippet of HTML being replaced. What's the best way to attach event handlers whose code is packaged along with the HTML it's interested in, when that content is loaded via AJAX? Should I just put a procedural block of javascript after the HTML , so that when I insert the new HTML block, jQuery will execute the javascript immediately? Is the HTML definitely in the DOM and ready to be acted upon by JavaScript which is in the same .html call?

  • Jquery ajax using asp.net does not work on IE9 during the 2nd call of the function?

    I have gridview that is loaded from another aspx page after an ajax call, the problem is it works on chrome/firefox/safari but using ie9 the ajax call would work fine during the first call but when i try to call the function again it throws an 304 status on the network tab of ie9 dev tool and the gridview is not refreshed.     This is about as beginner as it gets regarding AJAX, but here it goes. I want to have one checkbox somewhere on an ASP.NET web form (ASPX). When the user clicks the checkbox, I want one of those spinning indicators to show. While that spinning indicator is showing, I want an update operation to occur in the database to reflect that the user has intended for that checkbox to be checked. update MyTable set CheckboxChecked = 1 Then, as soon as the update operation has occurred, I want that to be reflected in the checkbox by removing the spinning indicator and replacing it with the standard checked checkbox. I'm guessing this is done with an UpdatePanel and possibly an update statement followed by a looped call to a select statement... but I have never used AJAX before and have no idea how to go about it. Thanks!

  • Is it possible to do an Ajax request for an ICS file?

    I am trying to do an Ajax request for an ICS file. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I found the perfect library to parse the iCal data. Any ideas why the data comes up blank when I do this? $.ajax({ success:function(data){ alert(data); }, url:"http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=15714&cat=98&platform=osx&method=sa/Swiss32Holidays.ics" }); It makes the request fine, but the data still comes up blank.
