• Python coding with VLC player (quite a basic query I expect)

  I'm fairly new to the whole coding realm so my knowledge is fairly limited, and I can't seem to find any basic tutorials on how to use scripts with VLC player. More specifically, the reason I'm asking here is because I stumbled across a post on this site about playing random clips from random videos on VLC player automatically. This is the forum post: Playback random section from multiple videos changing every 5 minutes My situation is similar to this lovely gentleman's was, though he clearly knows a lot more about coding than I do. In short, I'd like to copy this coding into a file of some sort and apply it to VLC player myself. Only I'm not sure what file type I'd have to save it as (I have Python by the way, and I tried saving it as a .py file but I didn't know if it was correct or where to go from there). Additionally, I'm not sure how to get VLC to "read" the script, so to speak - is there a specific location the file needs to be, and do I run the script from another program or through VLC? I'll reiterate that I'm relatively new to this, so if anybody would be so kind as to post a quick list of steps on how to save/place the file and use it with VLC player I really would appreciate it! P.S. I'm not computer illiterate, I'm fine with most programs and I'd understand if you just said things like "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins" or "in VLC, select Tools Plugins and extensions", I just wouldn't catch on to anything about adding a line of coding that does something without being told exactly what to write! • NGINX : Proxy pass intercepting 5xx errors - Possible to differentiate between ones fired by backed vs ones fired by nginx itself?

  We use proxy_intercept_errors ( http://wiki.nginx.org/HttpProxyModule#proxy_intercept_errors ) with our backends. We intercept a number of status codes, including a few 5xx ones. Our 5xx (each 500 has its own) handler has an access_log so we can see all the 5xx errors returned to the user in a nice clean logged format. The issue with this is that as it stands now, we cannot tell weather a 5xx was returned to the user by nginx or intercepted from our backend. Is there any way to differentiate between the two?   Hi a friend of mine is asking about the request which can for example be found here: http://www.geoidee.ch/geodata/geoserver-2.0.0/logs/2010_11_23.request.log His original message: On a couple of hundred web sites worldwide, one of the 50 most popular "File not found" error 404 is caused by the following request: "GET http://66.196.81.202/error/vote HTTP/1.0" It originates from a user agent that purports to be an iPhone. The two requests that hit my servers appeared to originate near Frankfort, Germany. The IP address in the request is part of Yahoo although I doubt that Yahoo had any intentional part. fe1.buzz.vip.re1.yahoo.com The HTTP request has a host header 66.196.81.202 and a X-Forwarded-For of 96.6.99.16 and my IP address I expected to be able to do a Google search and find some kind of security bulletin on it, but I found nothing. • Name one good reason for immediately failing on a SMTP 4xx code

  I'm really curious about this. The question (highlighed in bold): Can someone name ONE GOOD REASON to have their email server permanently set up to auto-fail/immediate-fail on 4xx codes? Because frankly, it sounds like "their" setups are broken out-of-the-box. SMTP is not Instant Messaging. Stop treating it like IRC or Jabber or MSN or insert-IM-technology-here. I don't know what possesses people to have the "IMMEDIATE DELIVERY OR FAIL" mentality with SMTP setups, but they need to stop doing that. It just plain breaks things. Every two or three years, I stumble into this. Someone, somewhere, has decided in their infinite wisdom that 4xx codes are immediate failures, and suddenly its OMGWTFBBQ THE INTARNETZ ARE BORKEN, HALP SKY IS FALLING instead of "oh, it'll re-attempt delivery in about 30 minutes". It amazes me how it suddenly becomes "my" problem that a message won't go through, because someone else misconfigured "their" SMTP service. IF there is a legitimate reason for having your server permanently set up in this manner, then the first good answer will get the check. IF there is no good reason (and I suspect there isn't), then the first good-sounding-if-still-logically-flawed answer will get the check.

• 404 Not Found for a PL script that exists!

  Hello all, I make a GET request to a CGI script and I get a 404 error. However, I am 100% sure that script is present and it has permissions: -rwxr-xr-x 1 apache apache 6520 Sep 7 03:01 uu_ini_status_audios.pl The request URL is: http://mysite.com/cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl?tmp_sid=893facacc5dc392ad0f4c91e6a9e8d40&rnd_id=0.12266222834382812 The error I get: The requested URL /cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl was not found on this server. This use to work for me before, but I think it stopped working after I restarted apache so maybe it means its a configuration I changed?? I checked the error logs for apache and php and nothing useful was found to help me with my problem! I appreciate any help on this!

• Using SQL Server specific code in Access linked to SQL Server database

  Hi, I have an access file that is linked (through an ODBC connection) to a SQL Server 2008 database. I am trying to write some reports against this database. However, Access chokes when I write the select query of the report with SQL syntax specific to SQL Server that doesn't exist in access. Shouldn't this work, since it's the SQL Server engine running the queries and just sending the data back to Access to display? Is there any way to get this to work? Need this to work on any combination of Access 2007 and 2010, and SQL Server 2005 and 2008. Edit Note: I cannot create a SQL Server stored procedure or function, or otherwise modify the original (SQL Server) schema in any way.

  I'm getting blue screens, mostly when trying to boot a program that required a lot of memory (games, photo editing software.) So far I've only managed to catch one set of error codes: BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: ADA393BA BCP3: E9BCEBC4 BCP4: 00000000 OS Version: 6_0_6002 Service Pack: 2_0 Product: 768_1 It's on a Sony VAIO Laptop VGN FW-41E, Vista OS service pack 2. Besides these codes it lists two 'temporary' files that were related with this crash: ...AppData\Local\Temp\WER-134925-0.sysdata.xml ...AppData\Local\Temp\WERDA66.tmp.version.txt When I googled these files some site said it was linked to a worm called 'yodo', but virus scans don't return any results (hitman pro, malware bytes, avast antivirus all turn up empty). Upon further searching about this yodo worm, I came across security stronghold where someone posted they had acquired this worm when downloading access and excel templates. Now, I actually did download templates for the same programs, they might have been the same, they may be related or I might be grasping at straws here. I have not noticed any issues other in performance as of late, just BSOD's when I start software that requires some memory, but I never had issues with these exact same programs before. Help and/or hints are required on how to actually figure out what's the root of this BSOD issue and how can I fix it. Do you reckon it's actually a virus? What program should be able to remove YODO worm stuff?

• Are you aware of any client-side malware that sends lots of junk requests for .gifs?

  I am getting dozens of 404 errors on my site that are requests for gif's with apparently random names, like 4273uaqa.gif and 5pwowlag.gif. I see that most of them are coming from one user. I assume something is happening in the background on her machine without her knowledge. I assume it's a malware thing on the client. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Would love to advise my customer that s/he has an issue. I'd also like to stop getting these 404 reports. :)

  One of our clients has reported that they are experiencing 404 (file not found) errors when attempting to navigate a website that we support. The behaviour only appears to affect her - other users on the same machine can navigate the website fine, but the problem follows her from one PC to another. I've had a good look through the IIS server logs and have identified the requests in question. The normal request pattern is as follows: POST /page.aspx - 80 - ... 401 1 0 POST /page.aspx - 80 DOMAIN/user ... 302 0 0 GET /anotherPage.aspx Request=833f80a5-f34c-4b0e-addb-d73e1ee1663a 80 - ... 401 1 0 GET /anotherPage.aspx Request=833f80a5-f34c-4b0e-addb-d73e1ee1663a 80 DOMAIN/user ... 200 0 However, requests for the affected user do not include a request for the redirected page, nor an entry for the 404, i.e.: POST /page.aspx - 80 - ... 401 1 0 POST /page.aspx - 80 DOMAIN/user ... 302 0 0 ... other unrelated requests Can anyone suggest what might trigger this behaviour, and how I might investigate the cause or prevent it from occuring? I read here that the Allow META refresh option in IE6 might trigger this behaviour, but I have not been able to replicate the behaviour by modifying this setting only.

  I'm having trouble installing git using this command: sudo apt-get install git-core It's giving me the problems below and I'm not quite sure how to get this to work correctly. I try running sudo apt-get update and after it just gives me problems. If anyone knows how to solve this or a possible way of getting GIT on your machine differently it would be of much help. But when I try to play the iso file in windows it says: Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region. When I open the *.IFO file with IfoEdit it says that all world regions are unabled. Can someone tell me why is this happening? ( maybe the whole process of creating the *.iso file is wrong? )

Reading the YUI blog, it seems browser needs the header "Last-Modified" to verify with the server. I'm wondering why the browser need to verify the last modified date.   We are setting up an online payment facility using a payment gateway. After the payment gateway finishes processing the credit card details for a payment, the user is redirected to a "403 Forbidden" page. The logs show: [MY_IP_ADDRESS_HERE] - - [SOME_DATE_HERE] "GET /POSTBACK_URL.php?txnid=1338434567&result=failure&reason=The+remote+server+returned+an+error%3a+(404)+Not+Found.&digest=7a115270c56df5945c43ad86e56b2e930a3cfd50 HTTP/1.1" 404 - "PAYMENT_GATEWAY_URL_HERE" "BROWSER_DETAILS_HERE" It means that when the PAYMENT_GATEWAY_URL attempts to open our POSTBACK_URL, it gets a 404 error, is that correct? But why does the page say "403 Forbidden"? Anyway, we tried to copy-paste that same URL into the browser window, and the page is opened successfully, with our programmed error notification message. So, why couldn't it be opened when the payment gateway tried to redirect to it, but we could? Is this some sort of permissions issue? If so, the postback URL's file permissions are already 755. What am I missing?

• How can I enable IIS to run Perl scripts?

  we're trying to get awstats up and running on our IIS6 server. awstats is running fine and generating output and all that jazz... no problem there. When trying to change the selected month/year in the output page though, it is trying to run awstats.pl through IIS, and coming up with a 404 error. To debug I made a simple hello.pl in my root, and tried to run that, also 404s. I followed the directions on this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245225 regarding installing ActiveState Perl and then configuring IIS. I added the extension mapping on my directory and registered the web services extension as directed. The perl scripts all run fine and output if run from the command line, so I know perl is good, but I can't get IIS to find the files. Here is the configuration on my the home directory tab of my site: Here is the configuration of my web service extension: I turned on directory browsing for this site, and when i get the listing of the directory, IIS actually does show the .pl files being in the directory. But if I click on one of them, I get the 404 error. 12/17 15:22 Also tried adding .pl as a mime-type on my site's configuration.   Currently I have a .bat file that opens a program, opens a document and then reloads this document so it contains new data. After that I need a timeout so it can run some other things within the document which takes about 2 minutes in total, but for safety I used 5 minutes. Then I want it to save the document and close the program. I've searched a lot for this but I can't find anything that saves the document and then closes it. Only can find how to save a bat file, but I already have that!   I can import an sql (from test linux server mysql) file if the lower case setting is removed. But then the table names are lower case and the web site doesn't work. Originally it was working (my.ini with the lower case settings), I then exported to a linux server, it was working there. Now importing back to my windows (xampp setup) fails. After wild goose chase looking at disks and permissions, I found that if I remove the lower_case_table_names=0, the import works! But I need the case sensitive command so that I can deploy on the linux server.
