  • How do you add a listbox as an input parameter UI element in SSRS 2008?

    I have to add a listbox/dropdownlist to a report in a Visual Studio Business Intelligence project, allowing users to filter a DataSet by the Id of the entity chosen in the listbox. I heard this was possible, but there is no option to add a listbox in the Toolbox in Visual Studio, and looking at the Report Definition on microsoft.com, there's nothing there about a listbox. What am I doing wrong here?

    Hi, I'm looking for a user interface for a MediaPlayer which should be able to play video as well as audio files. Furthermore it needs the following things (nothing fancy): TextView for playing time Progress Bar for progress visulization Play/Pause/Stop buttons NO playlist functionality required, the player will only play a single item (that's why I don't need next/previous buttons). It sounds pretty much like the standard audio-player of Android = 2.0. Sure, I could try to find its source code but that would require to tediously check out the entire source.     I've got a really nasty problem... I wrote a red5 app and so on and it is running perfectly on my local computer. Now the problem occurs = How can I make this program work on a remote server? Local : OSX 10.5 - red5 0.63 Server: CentOS 5 - red5 0.90 Maybe its because of the version difference... but I can't test red5 0.90 locally becaus it won't start up -.-' and I can't install the 0.63 on the server because of missing dependencies (and broken links to them...)

I tried with a runnable and calling .invokeLater or .invokeAndWait but I still get the same behavior, and even if I get dirty like above using synchronized it still doesn't work. Does anyone know how I can display each label at a time? Thank you!

    Disclaimer: I've never used technique which is described below. That's why there may occur some mistakes or misunderstandings in its description. I heard that some teams (developers) use 'pre-configured' tomcat. As I understand they add different jars to tomcat \lib folder and do something else. Once I've read something about recompilation (or reassembly?) of tomcat for certain needs. Just yesterday I heard a dialog where one developer sayd that his team-mates were not able to deploy the project until he would give them configured tomcat version. So, I wonder, what is it all about and why do they do it? What benefits can they gain from that?

  • What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

    We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

  • Distributing WPF apps to a legacy user base: How seamless is it?

    I'm considering developing a WPF application, to be hosted by a legacy Windows app (C++), and I'm trying to get a better sense of how feasible it'll be to do so, given the broad user base I'm targeting. Knowing WPF targets .NET 3.5, I'm looking for some insight as to what the field looks like right now -- who's already got the runtime, whether it's distributed by Windows Update, if so, how (e.g., as an optional or required download, to which operating systems, etc.), whether XP pre-XP2 supports it (and how), and so on. The current version's got many thousands of users, using all manner of Windows operating systems, and while I'd very much like to leverage WPF to breathe some life into their user experience, I want to make sure I'm not shutting anyone out by doing so, or burdening them with a download they might have to do manually. I realize most, or all, of this information's out there already, in various places, but I figured I'd ask here first, since I'm sure some of you've probably already gone down this road and have valuable experiences to share.   • Will a mulitouch touch screen equipped PC allow me to simulate real Android UI's without an Android device ?

    Hi, I have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab as an Android 2.x testbed (I am aware that 2.3 might not run on it, but it appears to be a good 1.x - 2.x device with a large enough screen to approximate the variety of screens on different phones). I would wait for Honeycomb equipped devices (such as the Motorola XOOM mentioned at CES 2011), but these are slated for some time in Q1 (likely end of Q1 for the Canadian market). If I get a multitouch capable PC and install the Android SDK and simulator, will I be able to use the multitouch functionality of the PC with the simulator to approximate a real device ? Does anyone use a multitouch touch screen PC for Android development ? I assume that this would work as the PC would recognize my fingers like the mouse, but I'd like to find out before purchasing the PC. Thanks for your help, Scott

There are a few different 3rd party code frameworks that include calendar controls, but most of them have a lot of functionality I don't need, plus most of them lack sufficient documentation on how to use them and I'm not a proficient enough iPhone developer figure it out using just the code. So I'm going to attempt to build my own and I was hoping you could provide me with some high-level direction to get started. At a high level, how could I build a simple, calendar control that doesn't do much more than display a calendar (month view, with the current date highlighted) and allows the user to selected a date? Something that looks like the calendar in the upper right corner of this image... Thanks so much in advance for your help!

  • Ajax heavy JS apps using excessive amounts of memory over time.

    I seem to have some pretty large memory leaks in an app that I am working on. The app itself is not very complex. Every 15 seconds, the page requests approx 40kb of JSON from the server, and draws a table on the page using it. It is cheaper to draw the table over because the data is usually always new. I am attaching a few events to the table, approx 5 per line, 30 lines in the table. I used jQuery's .html() method to put the new html into the container and overwrite the existing. I do this specifically so that jQuery's special cleanup functions go in and attempt to detach all events on the elements in the element that it is overwriting. I then also delete the large variables of html once they are sent to the DOM using delete my_var. I have checked for circular references and attached events that are never cleared a few times, but never REALLY dug into it. I was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on how to optimize a very heavy app like this. I just picked up "High Performance Javascript" by Nicholas Zakas, but didn't have much time to get into it yet. To give an idea on how much memory this is using, after 4~ hours, it is using about 420,000k on chrome, and much more on Firefox or IE. Thanks!

  • Is the UIDatePicker really the best iPhone UI mechanism for selecting dates?

    Hello! I'm diving into iPhone/iPad development and I'm trying to find an elegant mechanism for allowing the user to select dates. It seems to me that a calendar control would be the best way to go, but I don't see one in anywhere in the SDK. All all I see is this overblown, the-price-is-right-looking DatePicker control. Is this the only control that comes with UIKit for allowing the user to select dates? What about the calendar that the Notes app uses? Also, I should note I'm really trying to avoid using 3rd party code frameworks that have little or no documentation, because I'm new to all this and sufficient documentation is a must at this point.     As par my app requirement, there is a couple of scenarios that I need to handle. Scenario 1: To avoid piracy, I want to include some piece of code, whose job is sending both IMEI and Serial number of IPhone. Scenario 2: At server side, I've a database, which has a list of both IMEI and Serial No info. Here I wanna validate both IMEI and Serial numbers. If both are not matched then I can make sure that the app is pirated. Idea seems good. But I don't know how to handle these two scenarios in my app. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I am writing a web-app that uses a tagging system to organize the user's submitted reports. Part of it uses ajax to get suggestions for tags to present to the user based on the content of their report. I am looking for suggestions on how to present this information for the user. I'm not quite certain what a friendly way to do this would be. Edit: Well, most of the responses here seem to be focused on the user typing in keywords. The idea I'm trying to define here is more towards presenting the user a set of suggested keywords that they may accept or decline without having to type a tag in manually.     Hi, I'm trying to dynamically create buttons at runtime with PyQT4.7 However, this being my first python program I'm not sure how to get the functionality I want. I would like to be able to substitute a text string for an attribute name: i.e. for each in xrange(4): myname = "tab1_button%s" % each #tab1_button0, tab1_button1, tab1_button2 #self.ui.tab1_button0 = QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab) <--normal code to create a named button setattr(self.ui,myname,QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab)) #rewrite of line above to dynamicly generate a button #here's where I get stuck. this code isn't valid, but it shows what i want to do self.ui.gridLayout.addWidget(self.ui.%s) % myname #I need to have %s be tab1_button1, tab1_button2, etc. I know the % is for string substituion but how can I substitute the dynamically generated attribute name into that statement?     I have an Android app that only needs internet access and would like to target API level 3 (1.5) to reach the broadest handset base. However, it appears that targeting API level 3 implicitly requires two additional permissions that are visible to users: modify sd card, and read phone state.     I need to write a temporary Web-based graphical front-end for a custom server system. In this case performance and scalability aren't issues, since at most 10 people may check the system simultaneously. Also it should be PHP or Python (server) & JavaScript (client) (can't use Flex or Silverlight for very specific non-programming related issues). So I know I could use YUI or jQuery, but was wondering if there is something even more high-level that would say allow me to write such a little project within a few hours of work, and get done with it. Basically I want to be as lazy as possible (this is throw-away code anyways) and get the job done in as little time as possible. Any suggestions?
