  • Why is my searchable activity's Intent.getAction() null?

    - by originalbryan
I've followed the SearchManager documentation yet am still having trouble making one of my app's activities searchable. From my activity, the SearchDialog appears, I enter a query, hit search, my activity reopens, then I see this in the log: D/SearchDialog( 584): launching Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEARCH flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } I/SearchDialog( 584): Starting (as ourselves) #Intent;action=android.intent.action.SEARCH;launchFlags=0x10000000;component=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints;S.user_query=sdaf;S.query=sdaf;end I/ActivityManager( 584): Starting activity: Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEARCH flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI Intent { cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI null D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI false It appears to me that everything is fine up until the last three lines. The "NI" lines are getIntent().toString(), getIntent().getAction(), and getIntent().hasExtra(SearchManager.QUERY) respectively. ActivityManager appears to be starting my activity with the correct action. Then when my activity starts, it contains no action!? What am I doing wrong? The relevant portion of my manifest is: <activity android:name=".views.Waypoints" android:label="Waypoints" android:launchMode="singleTop"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.SEARCH" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> <meta-data android:name="android.app.searchable" android:resource="@xml/searchable" /> </activity>

  • Windows 7 Slow Searching

    - by Guy Thomas
I have a new Windows 7 machine with twice as much RAM and a faster processor than my old Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine. I am disappointed that searching amongst my 10,000 image files takes twice as long on my new Windows 7 machine. Both machines have their own copy of these same files. In other respects e.g. opening my huge Outlook files, the new machine is faster. The Windows Search Service has started. And I set indexing on the image folder about 3 days ago. Any ideas why I suffer from this poor index / search experience? Other than adding / removing folders, is there anything I can do to tweak indexing?

  • How Do Search Engines Rank Combined Keywords?

    - by Itai
Suppose: A site that ranks very well (1st result) for something like 'best blue widget'. It also ranks very well (1st page) for 'blue widget'. It ranks not so well (2nd page) for 'widget'. Obviously, the number of monthly searches are much higher for 'widget' than for 'blue widget', which is still higher than for 'best blue widget'. Now the actual question: When creating new external links, how does each of the following anchor texts affect SEO for of these searches? widget blue widget best blue widget [HINT: The answer should be a 3x3 table] [NOTE: Assume the site is relevant for all these keyword combination]

  • Combine Search Bar and URL Bar into One (WebView)

    - by Jay Bush
So I'm in the midst of updating my Web Browser app for iOS devices, from the ground up, and I'm trying to implement some more convenient features. One feature that seems to be really popular now, that I have been getting a lot of requests for, is the combination of a Google Search bar and a URL bar in one, like that of the Chrome application. Below is a screenshot of the Google Chrome app, and as you can see, they've made it so you can either enter in a search query like "apple ipad" and it will return a Google search page of 'Apple iPad', or you can enter in a URL "http://apple.com/ipad/" and it will load that URL. I have looked all over the internet, but all I could find were tutorials on how to Search Google with value of the UITextField. I have a feeling that the best way to do this is to probably make a 'check'. Like if the entered value contains 'http://' 'www.' '.com' or no spaces, then load it as a URL, if not then load it in a Google Search page, and then have the webview load up the Google Search page. If anybody could show me to the right direction, that would be great, or even supplying me with some code would be even greater. :) Thanks! If anyone needs part of the code, just ask.

  • Parse text file on click and display

    - by John R
I am thinking of a methodology for rapid retrieval of code snippets. I imagine an HTML table with a setup like this: one two ... ten one oneTwo() oneTen() two twoOne() twoTen() ... ten tenOne() tenTwo() When a user clicks a function in this HTML table, a snippet of code is shown in another div tag or perhaps a popup window (I'm open to different solutions). I want to maintain only one PHP file named utitlities.php that contains a class called 'util'. This file & class will hold all the functions referenced in the above table (it is also used on various projects and is functional code). A key idea is that I do not want to update the HTML documentation everytime I write/update a new function in utilities.php. I should be able to click a function in the table and have PHP open the utilities file, parse out the apropriate function and display it in an HTML window. Questions: 1) I will be coding this in PHP and JavaScript but am wondering if similar scripts are available (for all or part) so I don't reinvent the wheel. 2) Quick & easy Ajax suggestions appreciated too (probably will use jquery, but am rusty). 3) Methodology for parsing out the functions from the utilities.php file (I'm not to good with regex).

  • SEO Link Building For Brands Using Search Engines

Link building for an SEO site is a daunting task especially at the very beginning. It becomes a puzzle just where to start from and the directional drift that the link will profitably make. All this can be solved by web browsing through exploratory channels like Google that will give an idea of where to direct the attention. For example a basic approach can be in terms of finding out about how many hits the chosen brand name that one is building links to, receives on a daily basis.

  • Why distance field text rendering have clear outline?

    - by jinhwan
http://www.valvesoftware.com/publications/2007/SIGGRAPH2007_AlphaTestedMagnification.pdf All the process for doing distance rendering is clear, but 'how does it work' is not clear for me. It looks like that distance field pixels which are created around original pixel may affect 2d texture sampling interpolation process. But I can't understand the interpolation process. I've read that the distance field rendering is processed under nearest-neighbour interpolation. If it is true, shouldn't the distance field redering creates non interpolated result? In my thought, they should looks liked retro style pixel art. Where do i misunderstand in this process? So far, It is no difference with alpha test for me. Both of them throw away all pixcel which are not in. How does extra distance field pixel affect rendering under nearest-neighbour interpolation?

On click, the button submits data to a php file and then changes text and blurs according to the response from php file. The blur function and change text function in col5 is working well. But the change text function in button got really buggy. The button text should change accordingly. the text of button "Activate" should change to "Inactivate" and the text of button "Inactivate" should change to "Activate" on click / successful submission.. This is not working.. Below is the php file code <?php $id = $_POST[id]; if($id=="DataA1"){ echo "ACTIVATED"; } if($id=="DataB1"){ echo "ACTIVATED"; } if($id=="DataE1"){ echo "ACTIVATED"; } if($id=="DataC1"){ echo "INACTIVATED"; } if($id=="DataD1"){ echo "INACTIVATED"; } ?> Thanks in advance.. :) blasteralfred

Many directories have very strict rules for authors wishing to submit their content. This is to prevent duplicate content that may already be in their database and to insure the best quality for their viewers.

  • On-the-fly file search in gnome 3?

    - by jan groth
I recently switched to Gnome 3 (on Onereic 11.10). I was a big fan of gnome-do (on Gnome 2), where I heavily used the "files and folders"-plugin. This allows to configure a list of files and folder to be searched on-the-fly while typing. E.g. starting to type "timesheet" opens "timesheet_2011.ods" from my dropbox account... I can't find anything like this in Gnome 3. I know that there is a list of "recent items", and also the name of bookmarked folders in nautilus is searched, but that's not (exactly) what I'm looking for... So, what I want is this: tell Gnome 3 where my files are (certainly not only in my home folder) have them searched on the fly while I'm typing I think Unity offers something like this - but hey, I'm using Gnome 3 ;-) Anything I missed?

  • Two "subdomains" crossing search results

    - by LuckySpoon
My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

  • c++, win 32 , Erase text using TextOut or DrawText [on hold]

    - by XXXXX
How to erase the inputted character on the window and to write the another one on its place??? Say, for example, d d d d was inputted, I want to redraw it to d j j f I'm trying to do this in the following way: TextOut(hdc,rect.right,rect.top,(LPCWSTR)" ",2); DrawText( hdc, (LPCWSTR)str, -1, &rect, DT_SINGLELINE | DT_NOCLIP ) ; or DrawText( hdc, (LPCWSTR)" ", -1, &rect, DT_SINGLELINE | DT_NOCLIP ) ; DrawText( hdc, (LPCWSTR)str, -1, &rect, DT_SINGLELINE | DT_NOCLIP ) ; Anyway, some characters are redrawn, and in some cases(f, j,i characters) the junks are seen(one character is just drawn on another). I haven't set the SetBkMode to transparent. What to do? Thanks much in advance!!!

  • Poor backlink profile - search rankings not updated for 2+ months

    - by fistameeny
I am carrying out some work on a website that is a PR2 with a few good quality, relevant backlinks (PR4-6). It has a presence on Twitter that is updated regularly, a Google Places listing, and listings on some decent directories (Qype etc). The site was rebuilt into Drupal 7 two months ago, with all the basics done - URL rewriting, XML Sitemap submitted to Google, and most importantly, good quality, structured content. I've noticed that Google is still showing "old" URL's from the previous version of the site that was ditched 8 weeks ago. I think the site may be penalised under the Penguin update, as a previous SEO company created many low quality links from link farms/directories. My question is what the correct way to deal with this is. Bing Webmaster Tools can "disavow" links, and I guess I can attempt to contact the link farms to have them removed. I've already submitted a request to Google to request that we have the penalty removed as we're trying to tidy up a bad history. We submit updated sitemaps to Google and Bing daily, and have built some further decent quality, relevant links. Is there anything further I can do?

  • wkhtmltopdf displaying text as blocks

    - by making3
We're using wkhtmltopdf in a web project (nodejs/compoundjs). We've gotten it working how we wanted on our machines (using the --use-xserver switch). However, when I try to run this on our Ubuntu server 12.04 (without the ubuntu-desktop package), the PDF cannot use the switch. When we disable the switch, the PDF displays any characters as blocks (image below). How do I resolve this without installing ubuntu-desktop and running x server? I've found liberation fonts, which installing ttf-liberation and fonts-liberation did not help. And urw-fonts, but I have yet to find an Ubuntu equivalent. EDIT: It just hit me, this doesn't matter if I'm on the server or not. On my development machine (Ubuntu 13.04 desktop), I can run the following, which produces the same blocks: wkhtmltopdf http://google.com google1.pdf While this prints out the pdf properly: wkhtmltopdf --use-xserver http://google.com google2.pdf My version of wkhtmltopdf is 0.12.0.
