  • convert any language into PHP sourcecode

    - by dreftymac
Question: Is there any such thing as a programming language (other than an esoteric language such as BrainF@#$, or the languages PHP or VB) that you can "compile" into non-obfuscated PHP source code? Rationale: Swip wants to generate ordinary PHP code because it is so ubiquitous for the types of projects swip wants to do. Unfortunately swip would like to actually avoid writing PHP -- strange but true! Swip is crazy enough to want to generate PHP source code without having to type any PHP into Swip's editor.

  • Are there any small scale persisitant document/object databases?

    - by Joe Doyle
I have a few .Net projects that would benefit from using a document/object database opposed to a relational one. I think that db4o would be a good choice, but the $1200 commercial price tag is bit too much for us. I'd love to use MongoDb but it's design isn't for small scale, single server applications. Are there other options out there that I just haven't run across for small scale applications?

  • SerialVersionUID with "private static final long" still gets InvalidClassException

    - by Buggieboy
I have compiled and jarred the various projects in my Java application, generating serialVersionUIDs automatically through Eclipse for all my classes derived from Serializable. I read the answers to this question, and verified that serialVersionUids are all private static final long. Nevertheless, I get an error like this when I try to run: java.io.InvalidClassException: com.acme.product.Widget; local class incompatible: stream classdesc serialVersionUID = 5226096973188250357, local class serialVersionUID = -5432967318654384362 What am I missing?

  • Changing a custom accessoryView in a uitableviewcell?

    - by cannyboy
I'm trying to change the custom accessoryView of a uitableviewcell immediately after the user clicks on the cell. How would I do this? For the record, I'm using Matt Gallagher' custom table view tutorial: http://cocoawithlove.com/2009/04/easy-custom-uitableview-drawing.html Download link for source: http://projectswithlove.com/projects/EasyCustomTable.zip

  • How to stay motivated on the job?

    - by Fred Basset
Hi All, I've been working as an engineer professionally for 15 years for a number of different companies. My question is how do you stay motivated at work? I can generally be easily motivated if I'm working on design, but that seems to be about 5% of my actual work hours. Most of my work seems to end up being fixing problems in existing poorly designed projects. I'd love to hear some feedback from the other members out there. Thank you, Fred

  • ASP.NET MVC Project and the App_Code folder

    - by brunot
How come App_Code is not a choices in the Add ASP.NET Folder submenu in the VS solution explorer? I realize you can create one yourself manually by just renaming a New Folder, but what is the rational here? Is this not where you are supposed to put "utility" or "service layer" type classes? On a MVC project side note. I do like the fact that there is a reference to System.Configuration out-of-the-box unlike the default ASP.NET Web Form Projects.

  • Can Perforce and SourceSafe co-exist in Visual Studio?

    - by Chris
Visual Studio 2008, to be more specific. We're testing out moving to Perforce for source control, so I'd like to install the P4SCC plugin to monkey around with. However, I'd also like to continue using SourceSafe's IDE capabilities for projects that haven't been moved over yet. Can the two co-exist peacefully, or is it one or the other for a specific install of VS?

  • Object serialization practical uses?

    - by nash
How many software projects have you worked on used object serialization? I personally never came across a scenario where object serialization was used. One use case i can think of is, a server software storing objects to disk to save memory. Are there other types of software where object serialization is essential or preferred over a database?

  • Consistency vs Design Guidelines

    - by Adrian Faciu
Lets say that you get involved in the development of a large project that is already in development for a long period ( more than one year ). The projects follows some of the current design guidelines, but also has a few different, that are currently discouraged ( mostly at naming guidelines ). Supposing that you can't/aren't allowed to change the whole project: What should be more important, consistency, follow the existing ones and defy current guidelines or the usage of the guidelines, creating differences between modules of the same project ? Thanks.

  • Free or open source self hosted project management tools?

    - by titel
Hi guys, Does anyone know a free self hosted alternative to Basecamp or Active Collab? Basic requirements would be projects, milestones, tasks, users, reminders, reports. I've sped some time using this tools but now we need a tool for a project we're running and we're looking for some free alternative. Thanks in advance for your time, Constantin Tovisi
