• nsclient++ intermittent connection refused on same subnet

  I have setup Nagios and nsclient++ on a number of my Windows servers. They are all in the same subnet so no routing or firewall stuff is taking place in between the endpoints, and I have verified that the firewalls on the servers are not causing trouble. The problem is that the scheduled checks sometimes fail with "connection refused" and sometimes work! It is a frustrating problem to resolve because I do not know what to look for. One place I did look is in the nsclient++ logs, where I am seeing this recurring error: ...\trunk\modules\CheckSystem\PDHCollector.cpp:148: Failed to query performance counters: \238... This sounds promising, but I couldn't find much on Google about this error as it pertains to NSClient++

• Deep recursion in WHM EasyApache software update causes out of memory

  I was trying to load some modules with EasyApache in a software update (WHM) cause I need to install Magento ecommerce. I did the first EasyApache update. However, one module I needed was not loaded.   Three Apache2 web servers running a PHP 5.2.3 web site. We're using Memcache to cache rendered pages but also as the storage engine of the PHP Sessions. At peak traffic times we're getting Apache segmentation faults on all three web servers and all HTTPD child processes segfault.   Hi, I am using a Media Temple DV server with CentOS upon trying to install ImageMagick via yum, I get the following error: There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/rpm/_rpmmodule.so: undefined symbol: rpmdbCheckTerminate Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. • Use of Hibernate 3.0 with EJB 3.0 & JPA

  Where I'm working the guys that are sitting across from me are working on a project. This is a JavaEE app which uses Struts, Spring, EJB 3.0, JPA, and Hibernate 3.0. They are using EJB 3.0 entity beans with annotations. I've been asking them why Hibernate 3.0 is in this mix and noone can seem to tell me. It feels like they've included Hibernate 3.0 because they were told to but are not using it for anything that they can't get from EJB 3.0 entity beans/JPA. They're using CMP and accessing all of the database functions via EJBs. Can Hibernate give you anything in this setup that can't be provided by EJB 3.0/JPA?

  We had our samba server (ubuntu 8.04 ltr) share fill up the other day but when I went to look at it I cant see any of the shares have to much on them we have 5 group shares and then each users has an individual share one users has 22gigs of stuff a few others have 10-20mb of stuff and everyone else is empty so maybe like 26gigs total I deleted a few files yesterday and freed up about 250mb of space today when i checked it it was completely full again and i deleted some older files and freed up about 170mb of stuff but i can watch it slowly creep down in free space. I keep running a df -h Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 241690180 229340500 169200 100% / varrun 257632 260 257372 1% /var/run varlock 257632 0 257632 0% /var/lock udev 257632 72 257560 1% /dev devshm 257632 52 257580 1% /dev/shm lrm 257632 40000 217632 16% /lib/modules/2.6.24-28-generic /volatile what can I do to try to hunt down whats taking up so much of my hdd? (im fairly new to unix in general so i apologize if this is not well explained)

• What makes a bad programming language bad?

  We have all seen things like the typing system of JavaScript (There is a funny post including a truth table somewhere around here). I consider this one of the main things that makes a programming language bad. Other things that spring to mind: Bad Error messages (Either obfuscated so you can't figure out whats wrong, not existing or simply too long and red) The language wasn't planned and just grew uncontrolled in all directions (PHP?) The language encourages bad programm(er/ing) habits such as: Global variables everywhere, bad variable names Inconsistent naming conventions inside the language I can't come up with any more at the moment and would be very happy to read what you think about this. What shouldn't be missing in a language created to be as bad (from the perspectives of the programmer, the company that hires to programmer, the team leader and the customer) as possible? (I ask this because I'm designing a bad, experimental language at the moment)

• VMXNET3 nic loses the ability to update ARP table after N hours

  I have a fedora 18 VM that stops updating the arp table on eth1 after running for a number of hours to days. There are other VMs on the same hypervisor that can access all of the same networks without issue. A tcpdump of the offending NIC shows only ARP broadcasts but no responses. None of the other VMs on the vDS see the ARP broadcasts from the offending NIC. The only way I can currently solve the problem is to reboot the VM and then everything works for a while. I've tried changing the port on the vDS and even flipping the network configurations after I lose eth1's ARP table, but the ARP problem follows eth1 but I can access the machines that were originally on eth1. If I statically add the arp entries for machines on the same subnet I have no problems with connectivity. The Hypervisor is an HP BL49X series with flex-10 network modules. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

  So i just made my first RSS feed, or so i tought, in combination with CI. Now my view DOES display the top of my rss page (Title and Description), But all items are omitted. When i rightclick-view source it DOES contain all the items within the item tags. Can anyone help me?   I have a Java\Spring\Hibernate application - complete with domain classes which are basically Hibernate POJOs There is a piece of functionality that I think can be written well in Grails. I wish to reuse the domain classes that I have created in the main Java app What is the best way to do so ? Should I write new domain classes extending the Java classes ? this sounds tacky Or Can I 'generate' controllers off the Java domain classes ? What are the best practices around reusing Java domain objects in Grails\Groovy I am sure there must be others writing some pieces in grails\groovy If you know about a tutorial which talks about such an integration- that would be awesome !!! I have copied /etc/selinux and all the kernel modules to my ramdisk, and have tried both selinux=1 and selinux 1 as Kernel boot parameters. • Apache, modifying response codes from 404 to 301

  Hi, I'm running a magento installation on an apache server. There are many pages indexed in both google and linked to from external sites. I can't use 301 redirects in a .htaccess file as I can't be sure I will catch all the links. At the moment all requests are rewritten through magento and if a request isn't found magento returns a 404 File not Found. Is there a way of using one of the apache modules to filter the response* from magento and if a 404 Not Found is being sent back then replace the response with a standard 301 Redirect to the home page? E.g. Request to Magento -- Apache -- Rewrite to Magento index.php page -- page processed. Response if request exists -- return results (200) if request doesn't exist -- return 404 -- apache filter change response -- return 301 redirect to / I appreciate any help. • Why is C# suddenly so popular?

  Why is C# suddenly so popular? There's been like a repeat explosion in the blogs lately about it; It reminds me of the earlier part of this decade when all of those frameworks for Java came out like Spring, JSF, Hibernate, Struts, Struts2, Tapestry etc... I've actually been thinking about learning C#, and it seems to contain a lot of qualities that it has gotten from Java (aside from it being completely cross-platform) But, it almost seems like a step backwards to me...its not totally multi-platform, a language that's run by a corporation rather than a community... (But, knowing this isn't the case, I've come here to find out why it isn't...) P.S. And yes, I am aware of the Mono project so that you can run it on Linux, but isn't it always behind the curve? A new version of Java would be supported on all the platforms.

• Grails and PermGen issue with g:link and g:render

  I've been running grails for sometime without any issues but recently after an upgrade to Grails 1.1.1, I've encountered the dreaded PermGen errors. Prior to the upgrade, no such issue. The error seems to be happening when the <g:link> and <g:render> tags are used in a GSP although I'm not sure it's indicative that this is the issue but more of the fact that it ran out of space when these tags were being rendered. Typically, everyone who encounters PermGen errors recommend increasing your java environment options -- but what maybe the source of the issue? Is it a Grails 1.1/hibernate/spring problem?   Hello colleagues! At first some precondition to my question, I'm using struts2 + tiles2 + toplink. NO spring at all. The simplest scenario - is to display list of entities on the page. To optimize resolving JPA's EntityManager I would like to create helper (JPAResourceBean) that implements lazy load of entity manager. For this purposes I'm going to use struts2's bean declaration: <bean name="myfactory" class="my.model.JPAResourceBean" scope="session" optional="false"/> Why bean is not instantiated neither in session? (I'm using s:property just for debug) ... <s:property value="#session.myfactory" default="buka.1"/> ... nor in plain bean list: ... <s:property value="#myfactory" default="buka.2"/> ... May be the second part of question is - how to resolve this bean from java code?

• Jetty 6 to Jetty 7 upgrade: what happened to system property "jetty.lib"? (-Djetty.lib=my/lib/dir)

  Looks like Jetty team wanted to do some spring cleaning between versions 6 and 7, and it looks as if one useful system property, "jetty.lib" either does not exist, does not work, or just has changed in an unspecified way so as to make my jetty 6 set up work easily with Jetty 7. I tried searching through Jetty 7 docs, but about the only reference I saw was that "some commonly used properties (such as "jetty.home") still work as they used to". So, what am I missing? I really would want to avoid messing with things within Jetty distribution dirs (otherwise I could -- and maybe I have to? -- just use JETTY_BASE/lib/ext), and that's what "jetty.lib" was useful for.

• Apache 2.2 on Mountain Lion ignoring ProxyPass and sending request to DocumentRoot

  I have sickbeard running at 127.0.0.1:8081/sickbeard ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass /sickbeard http://127.0.0.1:8081/sickbeard ProxyPassReverse /sickbeard http://127.0.0.1:8081/sickbeard in httpd.conf And yet when I try and access http://example.com/sickbeard/ it gives me a 404, with this in the error log. File does not exist: /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/sickbeard Which I think means it's ignoring the ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse directives? Anyone know why this may be? For what it's worth, this setup used to work under Lion. • How to set the PHP Api Version for phpize

  I'm upgrading php on my server but I'm running into a problem with phpize and compiling external modules. phpize -v reports: Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20041225 Zend Module Api No: 20090115 Zend Extension Api No: 220090115 But on my test server (which I'm trying to replicate) I get this: Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20090626 Zend Module Api No: 20090626 Zend Extension Api No: 220090626 I'm running debian squeeze, pulling the php 5.3.0-2 packages from the experimental repo. The difference betweent he two servers is that the first server has had old verisons of php on it, and the test server was installed with php 5.3.0-2 from the start. I've attempted uninstalling all PHP packages from the first server (using --purge to get rid of all the config files) and re-installing 5.3 fresh, but I'm still having the same issue. Help!
