how powerful is Bluetooth programming on Android? is it possible to add new protocols and encryption techniques? or even change in the current protocols? does it support bluetooth 2.1+EDR?
Hi stackies,
I'm programmatically putting various TextViews into a LinearLayout with a horizontal orientation.
After 2h of research I couldn't find out how to tell Android not to squeeze all the TextViews in one line but instead to "float" non-fitting TextViews into the next line.
I know there isn't something like actual "lines" in a LinearLayout, but how can I tell the TextViews to actually behave like floating DIVs from the HTML world?
Thanks alot!
Be well
S.
What are some things you wish you had known about Android when you first started out or before you published your first app on the market? I am nearing completion on my first and am starting to make sure I have crossed my proverbial Ts and dotted the Is
I'm developing a native app for Android and I'm trying to use functions such as glIsEnabled which appear to be only available in OpenGL ES 1.1. Google's docs claim that NDK 1.6R1 supports OpenGL ES v1.1 but the function call fails with "unimplemented Open GL ES API" and if i do a glGetString(GL_VERSION) it returns "OpenGL ES 1.0 CM" as the version.
So if 1.1 is available, what do I have to link against to get it or what else do i need to change to get it?
On the iPhone/iPod touch, settings could be kept in the Settings.app. Can you do this in Android? Or must you settings have to be in the actual appilcation?
I have an android app that periodically, say once a week downloads content from a server in XML. The content is used by the app, different Acitivities use different parts of the content.
My question is a design one, should I save the data in SQlite or just keep it as an XML file, which one would be faster to read?
The app can only use one content piece at a time, which means subsequent XML content downloads replace the old one.

Android is an open source operating system that is modified by cell phone vendors (HTC, Motorola, etc.). Modifications include the user interface, drivers, and other proprietary extensions.
Traditionally, product lines have been a suite of products or services that share a core set of functionality and are modified for different domains and markets.
Does this still qualify as a product line?
if yes, is there a tutorial available for creating an android app using the same?
if no, what db can i use apart from from SQLite, i need to keep the DB seperate from other apps.
I have a large editText that no matter what I try, won't center. I have tried putting it in a horizontal and vertical linear layout and then setting that gravity to center because setting the imageText's gravity to center, it still hugs the left of my activity.
<EditText
android:id="@+id/editText1"
android:layout_width="250dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:ems="10"
android:gravity="center"
android:lines="8"
android:maxLines="8"
android:minLines="8" >
</EditText>
And here is what it is doing:
What would be the best way to write an app for the iPhone OS and the Android OS that allows access to a web blog (posted on blogspot.com)? Are there ways to manipulate the incoming data from the website to fit the UI of the phones, or will I have to re-do a lot of the blogs?
Any help would be nice! And thank you in advance!
I want a TextView to have a rounded border. This can be done by using a drawable, specifying a shape in the drawable, and then using the drawable as the background of the TextView. android:background="@layout/border" Also shown here
However, my TextView already has a background color (which is gray) and thus I'm unable to use the above method to set a rounded border.
Is there any other method to do this which allows the background color of the TextView to remain gray and also surrounds it with a rounded border?
Hi

Upload Code :

PutObjectRequest por = new PutObjectRequest(Constants.getBucket(), record.getFile().getName(), record.getFile());
s3Client.putObject(por);
Any help is appreciated.

Is there a way to change the sync settings of a Gmail account programmatically with an Android app? For instance, I'd like to enable/disable syncing of a Gmail account from my app, without the user having to do anything.
I took a look at AccountManager, but that doesn't seem to be the right place to look.
I'm trying to build a voip application on a new android device, i use AudioRecorder to read the microphone but I'm getting no valid results, just white noise.
This happen only on this new device(other work well) and this is probably because this device has PTT ability.
Is there some workaround to avoid using AudioRecoder to receive streaming data from the microphone?
Thanks.

I have noticed a lot of the use of @Override in Android example code. I thought that all Java methods were by default "Virutal"?
What then does @Override do?
Example:
private class HelloWebViewClient extends WebViewClient {
@Override
public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
view.loadUrl(url);
return true;
}
}
