  • Passing URL parameter and a form data together

    - by Fabio
I have following URL: http://localhost:49970/Messages/Index/9999 And at view "Index" I have a form and I post the form data to the action Index (decored with [HttpPost]) using Jquery, like this: View: <script type="text/javascript"> function getMessages() { var URL = "Index"; $.post( URL, $("form").serialize(), function(data) { $('#tabela').html(data); } ); } </script> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <%=Html.TextArea("Message") %> <input type="button" id="submit" value="Send" onclick="javascript:getMessages();" /> <% } %> Controller: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Index(FormCollection collection) { //do something... return PartialView("SomePartialView", someModel); } My question: How can I get the parameter "9999" and the form FormCollection in the action Index? PS: Sorry about my english :)

  • What is the best way to work on a MVC project online?

    - by Alon
In a regular Web Forms application, I could upload the files to a web server and just open the web server in Visual Web Developer and it worked great, but because MVC is a project and not a web application, I can't just upload the files regulary and still open it in Visual Web Developre normally... So here comes the SVN, but the problem is that I can't show the web site before publish to my boss... Any solutions?

  • MVC2: "File not found" after view is painted

    - by Dave Hanna
This is wierd. First, I'm building a site based on someone else's framework (Piers Lawson: Creating a RESTful Web Service using MVC ), so I'm not entirely sure what's going on under the covers. But when I run it in VS 2010 by pressing F5, it brings up the Home page, and THEN traps an error in Application_Error. The error is "File does not exist" exception. But I have no idea what file it's looking for. Where does flow control go after the View is finished displaying? How can I break to find out what it's looking for?

  • CSRF Protection in AJAX Requests using MVC2

    - by mnemosyn
The page I'm building depends heavily on AJAX. Basically, there is just one "page" and every data transfer is handled via AJAX. Since overoptimistic caching on the browser side leads to strange problems (data not reloaded), I have to perform all requests (also reads) using POST - that forces a reload. Now I want to prevent the page against CSRF. With form submission, using Html.AntiForgeryToken() works neatly, but in AJAX-request, I guess I will have to append the token manually? Is there anything out-of-the box available? My current attempt looks like this: I'd love to reuse the existing magic. However, HtmlHelper.GetAntiForgeryTokenAndSetCookie is private and I don't want to hack around in MVC. The other option is to write an extension like public static string PlainAntiForgeryToken(this HtmlHelper helper) { // extract the actual field value from the hidden input return helper.AntiForgeryToken().DoSomeHackyStringActions(); } which is somewhat hacky and leaves the bigger problem unsolved: How to verify that token? The default verification implementation is internal and hard-coded against using form fields. I tried to write a slightly modified ValidateAntiForgeryTokenAttribute, but it uses an AntiForgeryDataSerializer which is private and I really didn't want to copy that, too. At this point it seems to be easier to come up with a homegrown solution, but that is really duplicate code. Any suggestions how to do this the smart way? Am I missing something completely obvious?

  • Problem with order by in LINQ

    - by vikitor
Hi, I'm passing from the controller an array generated by the next code: public ActionResult GetClasses(bool ajax, string kingdom) { int _kingdom = _taxon.getKingdom(kingdom); var query = (from c in vwAnimalsTaxon.All() orderby c.ClaName select new { taxRecID = c.ClaRecID, taxName = c.ClaName }).Distinct(); return Json(query, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } The query List should be ordered, but it doesn't work, I get the names of the classes ordered wrong in the array, because I've seen it debugging that the names are not ordered. The view is just a dropdownbox loaded automatically, so I'm almost sure the problem is with the action. Do you see anything wrong?Am I missing something?

  • DropDownListFor and relating my lambda to my ViewModel

    - by Daniel Harvey
After googling for a while I'm still drawing a blank here. I'm trying to use a ViewModel to pull and provide a dictionary to a drop down list inside a strongly typed View: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="Notebook.ViewModels.CorporationJoinViewModel" %> ... <%: Html.DropDownListFor(c => c.CorpDictionary.Keys, new SelectList(Model.CorpDictionary, "Value", "Key"))%> I'm getting the error CS1061: 'object' does not contain a definition for 'CorpDictionary' and no extension method 'CorpDictionary' accepting a first argument of type 'object' could be found and the relevant bit of my ViewModel public class CorporationJoinViewModel { DB _db = new DB(); // data context public Dictionary<int, string> CorpDictionary { get { Dictionary<int, string> corporations = new Dictionary<int, string>(); int x = 0; foreach (Corporation corp in _db.Corporations) { corporations.Add(x, corp.name); } return corporations; } } I'll admit i have a pretty magical understanding of how linq is finding my ViewModel object from that lambda, and the error message is making me think it's not. Is my problem the method I'm using to pass the data? What am I missing here?

  • How to assign .net membership roles to individual database records

    - by mdresser
I'm developing a system where we want to restrict the availability of information displayed to users based on their roles. e.g. I have a tabled called EventType (ID, EventTypeDescription) which contains the following records: 1, 'Basic Event' 2, 'Intermediate Event' 3, 'Admin Event' What I need to achieve is to filter the records returned based on the username (and hence role) of the logged-in user. e.g if an advanced user is logged in they will see all the event types, if the standard user is logged in they will only see the basic event type etc. Ideally id like to do this in a way which can be easily extended to other tables as necessary. So I'd like to avoid simply adding a 'Roles' field to each table where the data is user context sensitive. One idea I'm thinking of is to create some kind of permissions table like: PermissionsTable ( ID, Aspnet_RoleId, TableName, PrimaryKeyValue ) this has the drawback of using this is obviously having to use the table name to switch which table to join onto. Edit: In the absence of any better suggestions, I'm going to go with the last idea I mentioned, but instead of having a TableName field, I'm going to normalise the TableName out to it's own table as follows: TableNames ( ID, TableName ) UserPermissionsTable ( ID, Aspnet_UserId, TableID, PrimaryKeyValue )

  • Why isn't this MVC Html Helper extension method working?

    - by Blankman
My base controller looks like: public abstract MyBaseMasterController<TMasterViewModel> : Controller { } public MyMasterController: MyBaseMasterController<SomeThingModel> { } Extension method: public static string DoSomething(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append("var cnwglobals = {"); var controller = htmlHelper.ViewContext.Controller as MyMasterController; if (controller == null) { } return sb.ToString(); } In my view I do: <% Html.Dosomething(); %> I get an error: CS1061: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper<Blah.Models.ViewModelForMasterWrapper<Blah.Models.MasterViewModel>>' does not contain a definition for 'DoSomething' and no extension method 'DoSomething' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper<Blah.Models.ViewModelForMasterWrapper<Blah.Models.MasterViewModel>>' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

  • MVC: capture route url's and pass them to javascript function

    - by Tim Geerts
Short:Is there a way to have a route-definition that will pass the "CONTROLLER/ACTION" string value to a javascript function in stead of actually going straight for the controller action? More:I have a masterpage which contains the navigation of the site. Now, all the pages need this navigation wrapped around it at all times, but because I didn't want the navigation to constantly load with each pagecall, I changed all my pages to partialviews. These partial views are loaded via the JQuery.Load() method whenever a menu item is clicked in the navigation. This all worked very good, up till now because I noticed it's also a requirement of the website to be able to link directly to page X, rather then default.aspx. So, as an example:The main page is my "default.aspx" page, this utilizes my master page with the nagivation around it. And each call to a new page uses a javascript function that loads that particular partial view inside a div that is known in my masterpage. So, the url never changes away from "default.aspx", but my content changes seemlesly. The problem is, those url's also need to be available when typed directly into the address bar. But, they're partial views, so loading them directly from the address bar makes them display without any masterpages around them. Therefore my question if it might be possible to capture the route typed into the address bar and pass that on to my javascript function that will load that route in the content div. (I hope I explained it ok enough, if not, feel free to ask more information)

  • jquery Infinite Scroll page number

    - by Renan Vieira
I'm using a jQuery plugin called InfiniteScroll (https://github.com/paulirish/infinite-scroll) and I have a URL with this pattern: '/category/2/', when I paged the result I use the following pattern: "/category/2?page=2". When Infinite Scroll makes de request, he increments the wrong number, in the case above, the request is: "/category/3?page=2" in place of "/category/2?page=3". Anyone knows how workaround this?

  • Ninject with MembershipProvider | RoleProvider

    - by DVark
I'm using ninject as my IoC and I wrote a role provider as follows: public class BasicRoleProvider : RoleProvider { private IAuthenticationService authenticationService; public BasicRoleProvider(IAuthenticationService authenticationService) { if (authenticationService == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("authenticationService"); this.authenticationService = authenticationService; } /* Other methods here */ } I read that Provider classes get instantiated before ninject gets to inject the instance. How do I go around this? I currently have this ninject code: Bind<RoleProvider>().To<BasicRoleProvider>().InRequestScope(); From this answer here. If you mark your dependencies with [Inject] for your properties in your provider class, you can call kernel.Inject(MemberShip.Provider) - this will assign all dependencies to your properties. I do not understand this.

  • MVC 2 Conversion Disrupts the parameters passed to my Stored Procedure

    - by user54197
    I have a few textboxes that are not required. If the user enters nothing it is passed as 'null' in MVC 2. It was passed as '""' in MVC 1. What changes can I make to accomodate for this? public string Name { get; set; } public string Offer{ get; set; } public string AutoID { get; set; } using (SqlConnection connect = new SqlConnection(connections)) { SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("Info_Add", connect); command.Parameters.Add("autoID", SqlDbType.BigInt).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("name", Name)); //Offer now returns a null value, which cannot be passed command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("offer", Offer)); command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; connect.Open(); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); AutoID = command.Parameters["autoID"].Value.ToString(); }

  • How come module-level validation errors only display when property-level validators are Valid?

    - by jonathanconway
I'm using the module-level validator: 'PropertiesMustMatch' on my view-model, like so: [PropertiesMustMatch("Password", "PasswordConfirm")] public class HomeIndex { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } public string Password { get; set; } public string PasswordConfirm { get; set; } } I'm noticing that if I submit the form without Name filled in, the ValidationSummary() helper returns only the following error: The Name field is required. However, if I fill in Name, then ValidationSummary() will return a PropertiesMustMatch error: 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. So it looks like the property-level validators are being evaluated first, then the model-level validators. I would much prefer if they were all validated at once, and ValidationSummary would return: The Name field is required. 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I'm studying the MVC 2 source-code to try to determine why this happens.

  • Sorting List which has object that contains two string members that contains numbers

    - by Lemo
I want to know the best solution for this my case here is that i am taking values from Excel sheet and pushing them to database field, sometimes that field might contain some strings (thats why I cant make my object members int / double) In my class below size is the variable responsible for showing size of files in bytes public class dataNameValue { public string Name { get; set; } public string Count { get; set; } public string Size { get; set; } } I wanted to sort the list by file Size something like List mylist = new List(); mylist = mylist.OrderByDescending(i = i.Size).ToList(); The problem is that if i sorted it without converting it to "int/double" first -- its not giving right results

  • MVC4 dynamically changing master layout page doesn't work on first load

    - by Kelvin
I have an MVC4 mobile project that I want to add a desktop (non mobile) page to for some users. I have added a new desktop master page and assigned my view to use it. The first time I navigate to the page it renders using jquerymobile which appears to somehow be cached from the previous screen. If I hit F5 to refresh the page it displays using the assigned desktop masterpage correctly. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Any insight appreciated

  • Architecture with NHibernate and Repositories

    - by Matthew
I've been reading up on MVC 2 and the recommended patterns, so far I've come to the conclusion (amongst much hair pulling and total confusion) that: Model - Is just a basic data container Repository - Provides data access Service - Provides business logic and acts as an API to the Controller The Controller talks to the Service, the Service talks to the Repository and Model. So for example, if I wanted to display a blog post page with its comments, I might do: post = PostService.Get(id); comments = PostService.GetComments(post); Or, would I do: post = PostService.Get(id); comments = post.Comments; If so, where is this being set, from the repository? the problem there being its not lazy loaded.. that's not a huge problem but then say I wanted to list 10 posts with the first 2 comments for each, id have to load the posts then loop and load the comments which becomes messy. All of the example's use "InMemory" repository's for testing and say that including db stuff would be out of scope. But this leaves me with many blanks, so for a start can anyone comment on the above?

    - by user281180
    I have a form in which I have many checkboxes. I need to post the data to the controller upon any checkbox checked or unchecked, i.e a click on a checbox must post to the controller, and there is no submit button. What will be the bet method in this case? I have though of Ajax.BeginForm and have the codes below. The problem im having is that the checkbox click event is being detected only once and after that the click event isnt being launched. Why is that so? How can I correct that? <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("Edit", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "tests"})) {%> <div id="tests"> <%Html.RenderPartial("Details", Model); %> </div> <input type="submit" value="Save" style="Viibility:hidden" id="myForm"/> <%} %> $(function() { $('input:checkbox').click(function() { $('#myForm').click(); }); });
