  • Deleting files by type in Python on Windows

    - by choszen
I know how to delete single files, however I am lost in my implementation of how to delete all files in a directory of one type. Say the directory is \myfolder I want to delete all files that are .config files, but nothing to the other ones. How would I do this? Thanks Kindly

  • How are the concepts of process and threads implementated in Linux kernel?

    - by Shan
Can any one explain how are the concepts of process and threads implemented in Linux kernel ? I am looking for an intuitive explanation with some C snippets ( and important data structures) that clearly distinguishes between the two. I am just looking for the key implementation ideas I should get hold off. Essentially, I want to understand them and implement something similar in an embedded target (not supporte by any OS) in C language.

  • Thread pool stack security issue

    - by elmatador
In a naive implementation of a thread pool, can a piece of code that is being executed read the data left by some previous code on the stack (if it was running on the same thread instance)? Also, are there any other inherent security issues connected to thread pools?

  • Why (and when to) use stored procedures?

    - by mr.b
What would be appropriate scenario when stored procedures should be used? I stumbled upon implementation where almost whole data manipulation was handled by store procedures, even simplest form of INSERT/DELETE statements were wrapped and used via SP's. So, what's the rationale for using stored procedures in general? Sorry for such a beginners question..

  • IOC are at the class level, but what about database conflicts?

    - by mrblah
With IOC I understand you can substitue implementations out by merely editing a configuration file etc. BUT, what happens when the classes are married to particular database tables and sprocs, you can't just swap out an implementation since the classes/entities are tied to particular tables and stored procedures. Am I right here?

  • C++ header files and variable scope

    - by MrDatabase
I want to organize my c++ variables and functions in the following way: function prototypes in a header file "stuff.h", function implementation in "stuff.cpp", then say #include "stuff.h" in main.cpp (so I can call functions implemented in stuff.cpp). So far so good. Now I want to declare some variables in stuff.cpp that have global scope (so I can modify the variables in functions implemented in stuff.cpp and main.cpp). This doesn't seem to work. How can I do this?

  • Inheritance question / problem

    - by Itsik
I'm creating a custom Layout for android. The layout implementation is exactly the same, but once I need to extend from RelativeLayout, and once from LinearLayout. class Layout1 extends LinearLayout { // methods and fields } class Layout2 extends RelativeLayout { // the same EXACT methods and fields } How can I use inheritance to avoid DRY and implement my methods once.

  • Detecting if a file is binary or plain text?

    - by dr. evil
How can I detect if a file is binary or a plain text? Basically my .NET app is processing batch files and extracting data however I don't want to process binary files. As a solution I'm thinking about analysing first X bytes of the file and if there are more unprintable characters than printable characters it should be binary. Is this the right way to do it? Is there nay better implementation for this task?

  • How to find same-value rectangular areas of a given size in a matrix most efficiently?

    - by neo
    My problem is very simple but I haven't found an efficient implementation yet. Suppose there is a matrix A like this: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 4 2 2 2 0 0 4 4 2 2 2 0 0 0 0 2 2 2 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 Now I want to find all starting positions of rectangular areas in this matrix which have a given size. An area is a subset of A where all numbers are the same. Let's say width=2 and height=3. There are 3 areas which have this size: 2 2 2 2 0 0 2 2 2 2 0 0 2 2 2 2 0 0 The result of the function call would be a list of starting positions (x,y starting with 0) of those areas. List((2,1),(3,1),(5,0)) The following is my current implementation. "Areas" are called "surfaces" here. case class Dimension2D(width: Int, height: Int) case class Position2D(x: Int, y: Int) def findFlatSurfaces(matrix: Array[Array[Int]], surfaceSize: Dimension2D): List[Position2D] = { val matrixWidth = matrix.length val matrixHeight = matrix(0).length var resultPositions: List[Position2D] = Nil for (y <- 0 to matrixHeight - surfaceSize.height) { var x = 0 while (x <= matrixWidth - surfaceSize.width) { val topLeft = matrix(x)(y) val topRight = matrix(x + surfaceSize.width - 1)(y) val bottomLeft = matrix(x)(y + surfaceSize.height - 1) val bottomRight = matrix(x + surfaceSize.width - 1)(y + surfaceSize.height - 1) // investigate further if corners are equal if (topLeft == bottomLeft && topLeft == topRight && topLeft == bottomRight) { breakable { for (sx <- x until x + surfaceSize.width; sy <- y until y + surfaceSize.height) { if (matrix(sx)(sy) != topLeft) { x = if (x == sx) sx + 1 else sx break } } // found one! resultPositions ::= Position2D(x, y) x += 1 } } else if (topRight != bottomRight) { // can skip x a bit as there won't be a valid match in current row in this area x += surfaceSize.width } else { x += 1 } } } return resultPositions } I already tried to include some optimizations in it but I am sure that there are far better solutions. Is there a matlab function existing for it which I could port? I'm also wondering whether this problem has its own name as I didn't exactly know what to google for. Thanks for thinking about it! I'm excited to see your proposals or solutions :)

  • Does [Serializable] work for inherited classes?

    - by MattiasK
I haven't worked much with remoting so excuse this rather rudimentary question, If I derive a class from an abstract class marked as [Serializable] (for passing the data across an appdomain), does the other side get the actual overriden implementation? ie does polymorphism work over remoting/Serializable? I need to create a clone on the other side rather than operating on the original so MarshalByRef is not an option...

  • Can you suggest some UI related flex 3 interview questions for a senior pos?

    - by mohan talluri
Our Company is looking for a sr.flex developer. As part of interview process customized UI understanding and implementation is also included. I am Usability&design Lead for the same product team have some understanding of flex 3 but am not sure if pure UI/usability questions can be answered by flex developer. So can you suggest some UI related questions to see if he/she has competency to refer a prototype(html/mockup's) and build the same UI in flex.

  • Extend base class properties

    - by user1888033
I need your help to extend my base class, here is the similar structure i have. public class ShowRoomA { public audi AudiModelA { get; set; } public benz benzModelA { get; set; } } public class audi { public string Name { get; set; } public string AC { get; set; } public string PowerStearing { get; set; } } public class benz { public string Name { get; set; } public string AC { get; set; } public string AirBag { get; set; } public string MusicSystem { get; set; } } //My Implementation class like this class Main() { private void UpdateDetails() { ShowRoomA ojbMahi = new ShowRoomA(); GetDetails( ojbMahi ); // this works fine } private void GetDetails(ShowRoomA objShowRoom) { objShowRoom = new objShowRoom(); objShowRoom.audi = new audi(); objShowRoom.audi.Name = "AUDIMODEL94CD698"; objShowRoom.audi.AC = "6 TON"; objShowRoom.audi.PowerStearing = "Electric"; objShowRoom.benz= new benz(); objShowRoom.audi.Name = "BENZMODEL34LCX"; objShowRoom.audi.AC = "8 TON"; objShowRoom.audi.AirBag = "Two (1+1)"; objShowRoom.audi.MusicSystem = "Poineer 3500W"; } } // Till this cool. // Now I got requirement for ShowRoomB with replacement of old audi and benz with new models and new other brand cars also added. // I don't want to modify GetDetails() method. by reusing this method additional logic i want to apply to my new extended model. // Here I struck in designing my new model of ShowRoomB (base of ShowRoomA) ... I have tried some thing like... but not sure. public class audiModelB:audi { public string JetEngine { get; set; } } public class benzModelB:benz { public string JetEngine { get; set; } } public class ShowRoomB { public audiModelB AudiModelB { get; set; } public benzModelB benzModelB { get; set; } } // My new code to Implementation class like this class Main() { private void UpdateDetails() { ShowRoomB ojbNahi = new ShowRoomB(); GetDetails( ojbNahi ); // this is NOT working! I know this object does not contain base class directly, still some what i want fill my new model with old properties. Kindly suggest here } } Can any one please give me solutions how to achieve my extending requirement for base class "ShowroomA" Really appreciated your time and suggestions. Thanks in advance,

  • What happened to 'Copy Public Gallery Link' for folders in Photos in Dropbox?

    - by Transgenic
I've been trying to figure out how to use the 'Photos' folder properly, but it does not seem to contain the functionality that is mentioned on various websites. From what I've read, you are supposed to create a folder within the 'Photos' folder. At that point, it becomes a public gallery for which you can access the context menu item Copy Public Gallery Link. However, I do not have this context menu item. I found a topic on the DropBox forum, but it is 2 years old. Even the various website information mentioned is over a year old. I found a topic from this year on SuperUser that mentions about the Share link menu item. I understand that this functionality is basically the same as Copy Public Gallery Link, however, the key difference is that it opens the website for which I need to click 'Copy link to this page' link, which then adds it to the clipboard. My primary questions are: Did they phase out the Copy Public Gallery Link from the context menu entirely? If not, is there a way to re-enable this menu item? If not, am I using the Photos folder properly? Lastly, if there is no way to get this menu item, is there some kind of script or hack-around that will let me simplify the Shark link + Copy link to this page functionality without requiring it to open my web browser? Note: I had to edit my post to remove other website links that I mention since I'm considered a 'New User' here and am only able to post 2 hyperlinks. Sorry.

  • Breadcrumb Navigation For Cocoa

    - by Till Theis
Is there an open source implementation of a breadcrumb navigation for the Cocoa framework? Those path bars seem to gain more attraction these days (used in Transmit or Instinctiv) but the implementations I found are closed source.

  • Downsides to immutable objects in Java?

    - by parkr
The advantages of immutable objects in Java seem clear: consistent state automatic thread safety simplicity You can favour immutability by using private final fields and constructor injection. But, what are the downsides to favouring immutable objects in Java? i.e. incompatibility with ORM or web presentation tools? Inflexible design? Implementation complexities? Is it possible to design a large-scale system (deep object graph) that predominately uses immutable objects?

  • ConcurrenctBag(Of MyType) Vs List(Of MyType)

    - by Ben
What is the advantage of using a ConcurrentBag(Of MyType) against just using a List(Of MyType)? The MSDN page on the CB (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd381779(v=VS.100).aspx) states that ConcurrentBag(Of T) is a thread-safe bag implementation, optimized for scenarios where the same thread will be both producing and consuming data stored in the bag So what is the advantage? I can understand the advantage of the other collection types in the Concurrency namespace, but this one puzzled me. Thanks.

  • Question about fwrite API

    - by michael
Hi, In C++, there is a fwrite() which writes a buffer to a file on disk: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstdio/fwrite/ Can you please tell me if there is any buffer inside that fwrite implementation? i.e. if I call fwrite() multiple times (say 10 times), does it actually invoke file i/o 10 different times? Thank you.

  • Advice on applying RSpec to existing code

    - by Paul
I have been an evil coder - working like crazy to get a ROR demo operational and ignoring RSpec. Does anyone have any helpful (aka; friendly) advice on using RSpec to get the current implementation under BDD control? Especially pitfalls to avoid. Many thanks.

  • Search and replace in apache htaccess a RewriteRule

    - by Paul Irish
I'd basically like to get /path/file+name+with+plusses.mp3 to rewrite to /path/file name with plusses.mp3 In my case wordpress is intercepting the request and giving a 404. But the file does indeed exist. Given the constraints of the regex in mod_rewrite implementation, I haven't yet seen a straightforward way of doing this.
