• Extracting an interface from .NEt System classes

  When using Visual Studio it is easy to extract an interface from a class that I have written myself. I right click on the class and select 'Refactor' then select 'Extract Interface'. Let's assume for a second that I wanted to create a ConfigurationManager wrapper and write some tests around it. A quick way to do that would be to extract an interface from ConfigurationManager by right clicking it, then 'Go To Definition' and then from inside the class select 'Refactor' then select 'Extract Interface'. Then I would simply create my wrapper class, inherit from my newly created interface, and then implement it and I have a great starting point for my wrapper class. However, extracting an interface from any .NET system classes is not possible, probably because it's just meta data about the classes and not the classes themselves (or I am doing it wrong). Is there an easy way to do what I am trying to accomplish? I want to ensure I am not wasting time typing what I don't need to be typing. Thanks

  Hello I am using ibatis and C#. i get a result from a select query that has CreatedDate as one of the field. The Datatype of CreatedDate in Mysql is Date. I assign the result set of the select query to a Ilist< DeliveryClass **. Here the DeliveryClass CreatedDate as DateTime. When i run the application, i get **Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime. What could be the problem?

  I wonder what is the safest way to subtract two System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.FILETIME objects? I used the following code but sometimes it gives me ArithmaticOverflow exception due to the negative number in Low 32-bit values. I am not sure enclosing the body with unchecked will serve the purpose or not. • Debugging in visual studio 2008 freezes entire system

  Any time i try to debug in visual studio 2008 my entire system will freeze whenever a breakpoint is hit. I can move the mouse around and that remains responsive but nothing i click on does anything, I can bring up the task manager but can't do anything with it and i am able to lock/unlock the machine. I tried a fix that i found via google that suggested i disable advanced text services but it didn't work. I am using visual studio 2008 with SP1 running on Windows XP Pro, asking here is my last hope before formating/reinstalling so i hope someone can help me out. I debug by running the application in debug mode, the freeze happens no matter what the project size and it seems as if it is just the entire GUI that freezes, the computer carries on working just fine i just can't do anything with it because the GUI is totaly unresponsive.

• What's going on with my server? High load, lots of idle CPU time, low disk utilization

  I run a web site and send a legitimate opt-in, daily email newsletter to subscribers. Both the web hosting and email sending are done by the same machine. I have about 100,000 subscribers who have opted in to my daily email newsletter. My PHP script did a pretty good job sending mail to all of them until fairly recently, but as the list has grown I can't keep up. When I run top, I have very high load--usually at least 6 or 7, sometimes as high as 15--even though I only have two CPUs. However, when I run sar, my CPU is idle an average of about 30% of the time. So, it seems I'm not CPU bound. When I run iostat, it seems as though I'm not disk bound because my %util for each device is very low (no more than 5%). Given that I don't seem to be CPU bound or disk bound, why is top reporting such high load? Additionally, since I don't seem to be CPU bound or disk bound, why is my email sending script not able to keep up? • Facebook Photo Contest App Against FB's TOS ??

  What would be possible/best practice for a Photo Contest app? Saving photos to a database and refreshing the contents with an "infinite session"? Exporting photos to my site getting written consent from my user? I've gathered that it won't be possible to present users with a number of photos to vote on because the permissions for user's photos will often not allow just anyone (the public) to view them. I've looked at SnapIt! Photo Contest on Facebook and it appears they are successful with what I'm trying to do. Are they breaking the Facebook TOS? http://apps.facebook.com/snapitphoto I'm new to Facebook development and want to be sure it is possible to do what I want before I become very invested.   I would like to calculate the "size on disk" of a file in Python. Therefore I would like to determine the cluster size of the file system where the file is stored. How do I determine the cluster size in Python? Or another built-in method that calculates the "size on disk" will also work. I looked at os.path.getsize but it returns the file size in bytes, not taking the FS's block size into consideration. I am hoping that this can be done in an OS independent way...

• Scrum for Team System 2010 - How to use story points instead of Hours

  I have installed TFS 2010 using the Scrum for Team System v3. The work item templates want you to enter a Project Backlog Item that includes story points, then you need to add linked tasks as a child of the PBI. It is at the task level where you can assign team individuals, update estimated hours left, etc. What is the importance of the Story Points used at the PBI item if individual tasks are using hours? Has anyone customized this template so that the child work item tasks use story point burn downs instead of hours? Also, I would be nice to have the total number of story points from each individual task roll up into the PBI item as a read only field for total story points. Thanks for your time.

  I am getting different value for TimeZone.getDefault().getID() on different systems. For example, in case of Indian standard time, On one of the system we are getting "GMT+5:30": while on another we are getting "Asia/Calcutta". We are expected to get "Asia/calcutta" strings on all machines. Why is there an inconsistency for such behavior? Is there any way to get consistent behavior across different systems windows/MAC? What is the best way to get client time zone programmatically using Java?

  Hi everyone, I want to get the business hours from ScotiaBank branches that are near to me. The base-URL is: http://maps.scotiabank.com/ I then, Click on the "Branches" radiobox. Click on the "Open Saturdays" checkbox. Enter "B3H 1M7" (my postal code) into the search box. Click the Search button. Click on the first result that pops up (Micmac shopping centre). Store the business hours as a variable (called businessHours). And now I'm stuck. How can I export the data that I assigned to the variable to a text file or anywhere else where I can view it later? I'm not sure if this is even possible with Selenium, but if it's not, can you tell me an alternative of how I could do this? • Ideas Needed for a Base Code System

  I've developed a PHP web application that is currently in need of a strategic restructuring. Currently when we setup new clients we give them the entire code base on a subdomain of our main domain and create a new table for them in the database. This results in each client having the entire codebase, meaning when we make bug changes, fixes we have to go back and apply them independently across all clients and this is a pain. What I'd like to create is a base code server that holds all the core PHP files. base.domain.com Then all of our clients (client.domain.com) will only need a few files: config.php would have the database connection information. index.php - displays the login box if session non-existant, otherwise it loads baseline code via remote includes to base.domain.com. My question is does my logic seem feasible? How do other people handle similar situations by having a base code? Also.... Is it even possbile to remotely include PHP files from base.domain.com and include them in client.domain.com? Thanks, Tegan

• How to visually reject user input in a table?

  In the programming of a table-based application module (i.e. the user mostly enters tabular data in an already laid-out table), how would you reject user input for a given cell? The scenario is: the user edits the cell, enters something (text, picture, ...) and you want them to notice when they finish editing (hitting enter, for example) that their entry is not valid for your given "format" (in the wider meaning: it can be that they entered a string instead of a number, that their entry is too long, too short, they include a picture while it's not acceptable, ...). I can see two different things happening: You can rather easily fit their entry into your format, and you do so, but you want them to notice it so they can change if your guess is not good enough (example: they entered "15.47" in a field that needs to be an integer, so your program makes it "15") You cannot guess what to do with their entry, and want to inform them that it's not valid. My question specifically is: what visual display can you offer to inform the user that his input is invalid? Is it preferable to refuse to leave the editing mode, or not? The two things I can imagine are: using colors (red background if invalid, yellow background for my case 1 above) when you reject an input, do something like Apple does for password entry of user accounts: you make the cell "shaking" (i.e. oscillating left and right) for one second, and keep the focus/editing in their so they don't loose what they've typed. Let's hear your suggestions. PS: This question is, at least in my thought process, somehow a continuation and a specialization of my previous question on getting users to read error messages. PPS: Made this community wiki, was that the right thing to do on this kind of question or not?

  In order to create a “destination” auto filter input field on our website, I need a data source that provides a hierarchical data set of Region, Country, County/State, City and Town (plus an area like the Peak District National Park if at all possible) I know sites like Trip Advisor and Facebook seem to have very robust datasets for this. When you type, it brings up a match list with the hierarchy displayed (e.g. if you type Boston you get 6 results as there are multiply places called Boston – the hierarchy allows you to pick the correct option) There are many data sources out there but they either lack hierarchy or do not seem to be easily updatable or complete. I had expected this to be an easy task given the amount of site that have a destination or location autofill field. However, i cannot find a datasource or method that works. any help would be much appreciated. Tks,

Everything works fine except when I try to open the file in gedit (linux), it says it can't identify the character encoding. Notepad (on windows) opens the file just fine. What if I have a n states system, how would I spray some "dt" in the F matrix?

• Photo printing API system?

  I am looking for options to provide customers on my website a way to order prints for photos. (It is a photo sharing site, so it needs to be automated, I don't want any portfolio sites that require uploads and what not). Basically it just needs where I send them the photos, the address, (and possibly billing info) and they make the prints and mail them out. I have searched all over the place for such a system, but none seem to offer what I want. I tried hacking snapfish (which worked, but it says "Return to Picasa" on the buttons, which makes it sort of lame...) Any ideas?

• Detect file system changes on Samba share with Java on Windows

  Hi, for a recent project I need to detect file system changes on a mapped Samba share from java on windows: Creates, updates and removes. At the moment I am using a folder poll that maintains a list of files and their modified timestamp to look for events. But my problem is that this folder poll only peeks into the folder at certain times (every 10 seconds for example), so an updated file can be updated twice between two polls without recognizing. Is there any way to get events from windows inside Java whenever a file event occours on that mappep Samba share? Thanks!
