  • Sanitizing input for display in view when using simple_format

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out the right way to display comments such that newlines and links are displayed. I know that usually, you should display user-inputs only when escaping html with h(). That of course won't display newlines or links, so I found the simple_format and auto_link methods. What I am now doing is: simple_format(santize(auto_link(comment.text))) Is this the right way to do this, and is it still safe from XSS attacks? Thanks! Eric

  • What is NSString in struct?

    I've defined a struct and want to assign one of its values to a NSMutableDictionary. When I try, I get a EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Here is the code: //in .h file typedef struct { NSString *valueOne; NSString *valueTwo; } myStruct; myStruct aStruct; //in .m file - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; aStruct.valueOne = @"firstValue"; } //at some later time [myDictionary setValue:aStruct.valueOne forKey:@"key1"]; //dies here with EXC_BAD_ACCESS This is the output in debugger console: (gdb) p aStruct.valueOne $1 = (NSString *) 0xf41850 Is there a way to tell what the value of aStruct.valueOne is? Since it is an NSString, why does the dictionary have such a problem with it? ------------- EDIT ------------- This edit is based on some comments below. The problem appears to be in the struct memory allocation. I have no issues assigning the struct value to the dictionary in viewDidLoad, as mentioned in one of the comments. The problem is that later on, I run into an issue with the struct. Just before the error, I do: po aStruct.oneValue Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory. Reason: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at address: 0x00000000 0x9895cedb in objc_msgSend () The program being debugged was signaled while in a function called from GDB. GDB has restored the context to what it was before the call. To change this behavior use "set unwindonsignal off" Evaluation of the expression containing the function (_NSPrintForDebugger) will be abandoned. This occurs just before the EXC_BAD_ACCESS: NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [formatter setDateFormat:@"MM-dd-yy_HH-mm-ss-A"]; NSString *date = [formatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]; [formatter release]; aStruct.valueOne = date; So the memory issue is most likely in my releasing of formatter. The date var has no retain. Should I instead be doing NSString *date = [[formatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]] retain]; Which does work but then I'm left with a memory leak.

    hi there I have an entity and it seems like using DateTime as the Id would be a good suit, however I there is this strange feeling that that it might be a terrible idea ( tho i cant come up with any logical reason as to why), This is an immutable object ( ie once the value is recorded it shouldn't really change ) So DateTime as id field in NHibernate yay or Nay? I would appreciate your comments on this

    Hi There, i am trying to read the RSS feed by loading it to xmldocument some thing like xmlTextReader = new XmlTextReader(url); XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.Load(xmlTextReader); some times the loading to xml document succeeds and some times it fails . the url i am using is http://rss.nzherald.co.nz/rss/xml/nzhrsscid%5F000000004.xml what could be the probelm, is it like the RSS is not updated properly..? any suggestions/comments Regards DEE

  • ArcObjects: Is buffering a point faster than buffering a line / polyline?

    I can write my code logic to either buffer a polyline or to buffer the to and from point of the polyline. Working with the points will be easier, so it is the preferred way. Logically my reasoning tells me that buffering a point will be faster as it will always be a perfect circle. But will buffering 2 points still be faster than buffering 1 polyline? My gut says yes. Any comments?

    Trying to include a source-file into my latex document using the listings package, i got problems with german umlauts inside of the comments in the code. Using \lstset{ extendedchars=\true, inputencoding=utf8x } Umlauts in the source files (encoded in UTF-8 without BOM) are processed, but they are somehow moved to the beginning of the word they are contained in. So // die Größe muss berücksichtigt werden in the input source file, becomes // die ößGre muss übercksichtigt werden in the output file.     My application has two node types: a parent node which can hold recursive child nodes. Think of it like the post-comment system in SO, but comments can be recursive: parent_1 child_11 child_12 child_121 child_3 parent_2 child_21 child_211 child_2111 Important to note that the parent nodes have different attributes and behavior than the child nodes. What is the correct (and presumably most efficient) way of modeling this relationship in Django?

  • Help to understand and recode javascript function to deal with special characters.

    Hi all, I am trying to rewrite a javascript function since I was told this function its a bit nasty peace of code and it could be nicely written by a very kind user from here. I have been trying to understand what the function does, therefore I could rewrite it properly, but since I dont fully understand how it works its a very difficult task. Therefore I am looking for help and directions (NOT THE SOLUTION AS I WANT TO LEARN MYSELF) to understand and rewrite this function in a nicer way. The function its been made for dealing with special characters, and I know that it loops through the string sent to it, search for special characters, and add what it needs to the string to make it a valid string. I have been trying to use value.replace(/"/gi,"/""), but surely I am doing it wrong as it crashes. Could anybody tell me where to start to recode function? Any help would be appreciated. My comments on the function are in capital letters. So far I've found PyMT, but haven't really seen any comments on the maturity of that product, so any input in that regard would be much appreciated. I'd also like some other suggestions on API's that might be of interest, since googling have only given so much, and as with PyMT, it is quite difficult finding opinions on the frameworks out there.
