  • Is it possible to have a Shared/Static Dependency Property?

    - by Matt H.
[using VB.NET, but I can easily read C# code in responses] I have a class called QuestionClipboard with ALL shared methods/properties. I previously had a QuesitonClipboard.doesClipboardHaveContent function that returned true/false if there was a Object on my 'clipboard'. I'd prefer to implement a Dependency Property so I can allow this true/false value to participate in data binding. The "GetValue(dp as DependencyProperty)" method requires an object instance, which would mean that my Property CAN'T be shared! Here is what the code would look like in my perfect world... Of course, the word "Shared" before the property declaration renders this code useless. Private Shared clipboardHasContentPropertyKey As DependencyPropertyKey = DependencyProperty.RegisterReadOnly("clipboardHasContent", GetType(Boolean), GetType(QuestionClipboard), _ New PropertyMetadata(False, Nothing, New CoerceValueCallback(AddressOf coerceClipboardHasContent))) Private Shared clipboardHasContentProperty As DependencyProperty = clipboardHasContentPropertyKey.DependencyProperty Public SHARED Property clipboardHasContent As Boolean Get Return GetValue(clipboardHasContentProperty) End Get Set(ByVal value As Boolean) SetValue(value) End Set End Property

  • How do I determine inactivity in a MVVM application?

    - by Jordan
I have an MVVM kiosk application that I need to restart when it has been inactive for a set amount of time. I'm using Prism and Unity to facilitate the MVVM pattern. I've got the restarting down and I even know how to handle the timer. What I want to know is how to know when activity, that is any mouse event, has taken occurred. The only way I know how to do that is by subscribing to the preview mouse events of the main window. That breaks MVVM thought, doesn't it? I've thought about exposing my window as an interface that exposes those events to my application, but that would require that the window implement that interface which also seems to break MVVM.

  • How can my controls size be NaN when it is actually shown?

    - by Stian Karlsen
I have a Grid which contains an Image in one of its columns. The image itself does not have any Width or Height set, but its size is correctly controlled through the ColumnDefinition set. From this I would assume that the image controller actually has a Width and Height set, but when I try to bind another element to its Width and Height it doesn't work. When debugging it turns out that the value of Image.Height and Image.Width are NaN. Why? <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="350"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="10"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"></ColumnDefinition> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid Grid.Column="0" Margin="5"> <Image x:Name="_image" Source="image.jpg"></Image> </Grid> </Grid>

  • Using NavigationService without XAML files

    - by UnclePaul
I'm trying to create some pages in my Windows Phone application without the use of any XAML. Everything is working, however, I'm failing to use NavigationService/ Journal with this approach and all my attempts to utilize it are answered by the usual "No XAML was found at the location {0}'" response. Yes, I can add an almost empty XAML file to get everything working, but is this kind of boiler plate code really necessary? Is it maybe possible to use the UriMapping to map certain Uris to specific classes instead of *.xaml files?

  • Why can't I find DataTemplates in merged resource dictionaries?

    - by dthrasher
In my MainWindow.xaml, I have the following reference to a ResourceDictionary: <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="MainSkin.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> In MainSkin.xaml, I define a datatemplate: <DataTemplate x:Key="TagTemplate"> ... </DataTemplate> Deeper within my application, I attempt to use this data template: <ContentControl DataContext="{Binding Tag}" ContentTemplate="{StaticResource TagTemplate}"/> The code compiles successfully, but when I attempt to load a Page or UserControl that contains this StaticResource, I get an exception saying that the TagTemplate can't be found. What am I doing wrong?

  • Best method for Binding ComboBox

    - by LnDCobra
I am going to be developing a large project which will include a large number of ComboBoxes. Most of these combo boxes will be bound to a database field which is a related to another daataset/table. For instance. I have the following 2 tables: Company {CompanyID, CompanyName, MainContact} Contacts {ContactID, ContactName} And when the user clicks to edit a company, A TextBox will be there to edit a company name, but also a ComboBox will be there. The way I am currently doing it is binding the ComboBox to the Contacts dataset, and manually updating the Company MainContact field in code behind. Is there anyway for me to bind the selected item to the Company MainContact field in XAML and the items to the ContactName and eliminate the code behind? Reason for this is when you start making 100's combo boxes all over the application it gets long winded each time creating code behind to do the update.

  • XAML get new width and height for Canvas

    - by Jack Navarro
I have searched through many times but have not seen this before. Probably really simple question but can't wrap my head around it. Wrote a VSTO add-in for Excel that draws a Grid dynamically. Then launches a new window and replaces the contents of the Canvas with the generated Grid. The problem is with printing. When I call the print procedure the canvas.height and canvas.width returned is the old value prior to replacing it with the grid. Sample: string="<Grid Name=\"CanvasGrid\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation\">..Lots of stuff..</Grid>"; // Launch new window and replace the Canvas element WpfUserControl newWindow = new WpfUserControl(); newWindow.Show(); //To test MessageBox.Show(myCanvas.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 894 Grid testGrid = myCanvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 StringReader stringReader = new StringReader(LssAllcChrt); XmlReader xmlReader = XmlReader.Create(stringReader); Canvas myCanvas = newWindow.FindName("GrphCnvs") as Canvas; myCanvas.Children.Clear(); myCanvas.Children.Add((UIElement)XamlReader.Load(xmlReader)); //To test MessageBox.Show(myCanvas.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 894 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens Grid testGrid = myCanvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens //Run code from WpfUserControl.cs after it loads from button click Grid testGrid = canvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens So basically I have no way of telling what my new width and height are.

  • drag-drop and data binding in MVVM

    - by Benny
My ViewModel: class ViewModel { public string FileName {get;set;} } and in my View I bind a label's content to ViewModel's FileName. now When I do drag-drop a file to my View, How can I update the label's Content property, so that the ViewMode's FileName also get updated via binding? Directly set the label's Content property won't work, it just simply clear the binding.

  • 'Auto' option missing for TreeView subclass

    - by Jared
I've created a custom control that subclasses TreeView. Right now it's completely empty, doesn't override anything. However when I place an instance in the designer the 'Auto' value for the Width and Height fields is no longer available as it is with the default TreeView. What am I missing?

  • Value Object and View Model Property

    - by William
I am working on a solution that used DDD for architecture. I have a property in my ViewModel which points to a ValueObject, the view model also implements INotifyPropertyChanged interface. The value of the ValueObject will change as a user enters data on the front end. The problem I am running into is the value object is suppose to be immutable. How can I work around this issue? Thank you in advance.

  • Programmatically Setting ControlTemplate Item

    - by Robert
    I'm having trouble figuring out how to programmatically setting the "Stroke" of my arrow. I'm using these buttons in a menu bar and I want the one currently selected to have it's arrow change to green and all the others gray. <Style x:Key="FooterGrayButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="MinHeight" Value="35" /> <Setter Property="FontSize" Value="16"/> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="0,5,10,5" /> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="White" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <Grid> <Border x:Name="Bd" Background="#FF535A65" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="1" CornerRadius="10"> <Path x:Name="arrow" Stretch="Fill" Stroke="#FFB1BB1C" StrokeThickness="5" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Margin="5" StrokeEndLineCap="Round" StrokeStartLineCap="Round" StrokeLineJoin="Miter" Width="13" Height="23" Data="M0,0 L1,1 0,2" /> </Border> <ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="15,-2,30,0" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}" SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" RecognizesAccessKey="True"/> </Grid> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="True"> <Setter TargetName="Bd" Property="Background" Value="#FFB1BB1C" /> <Setter Property="Stroke" TargetName="arrow" Value="White"/> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="False"> <Setter Property="Stroke" TargetName="arrow" Value="#FFB7B7B7"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="#FFB7B7B7"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style>

  • MVVM - what is the ideal way for usercontrols to talk to each other

    - by Sandbox
I have a a user control which contains sevral other user controls. I am using MVVM. Each user control has a corresponding VM. How do these user controls send information to each other. I want to avoid writing any code in the xaml code behind. Particularly I am interested in how the controls (inside the main user control) will talk to each other and how will they talk to the container user control. EDIT: I know that using events-delegates will help me solve this issue. But, I want to avoid writing any code in xaml code-behind.

  • how to switch views according to command

    - by Veer
I've a main view and many usercontrols. The main view contains a two column grid, with the first column filled with a listbox whose datatemplate consists of a usercontrol and the second column filled with another usercontrol. These two usercontrols have the same datacontext. MainView: <Grid> //Column defs ... <ListView Grid.Column="0" ItemSource="{Binding Foo}"> ... <DataTemplate> <Views: FooView1 /> </DataTemplate> </ListView> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Count}" /> <StackPanel Grid.Column="1"> <Views: FooView2 /> </StackPanel> <Grid> FooView1: <UserControl> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Title}"> </UserControl> FooView2: <UserControl> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Detail1}"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Detail2}"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Detail3}"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo.Detail4}"> </UserControl> I've no IDE here. Excuse me if there is any syntax error When the user clicks on a button. These two usercontrols have to be replaced by another two usercontrols, so the datacontext changes, the main ui remaining the same. ie, FooView1 by BarView1 and FooView2 by BarView2 In short i want to bind this view changes in mainview to my command (command from Button) How can i do this? Also tell me if i could merge the usercontrol pairs, so that only one view exists for each viewmodel ie, FooView1 and FooView2 into FooView and so on...

  • Displaying xaml resources dynamically?

    - by Robert
I used Mike Swanson's illustrator to xaml converter to convert some of my images to xaml. The convert creates a viewbox that contains the image. These viewboxes I made resource files in my program. The code below shows what I'm trying to do: I have a viewmodel that has an enum variable called PrimaryWinding of type Windings. The values PrimD and PrimY of the enum select the respective PrimD and PrimY xaml files in the resources. <UserControl.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="PrimTrafo" DataType="{x:Type l:Windings}"> <Frame Source="{Binding}" x:Name="PART_Image" NavigationUIVisibility="Hidden"> <Frame.LayoutTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0.5" ScaleY="0.5"/> </Frame.LayoutTransform> </Frame> <DataTemplate.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding}" Value="PrimD"> <Setter TargetName="PART_Image" Property="Source" Value="Resources\PrimD.xaml" /> </DataTrigger> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding}" Value="PrimY"> <Setter TargetName="PART_Image" Property="Source" Value="Resources\PrimY.xaml" /> </DataTrigger> </DataTemplate.Triggers> </DataTemplate> </UserControl.Resources> <!--The contentcontrol that holds the datatemplate defined above--> <Grid > <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*"></ColumnDefinition> <ColumnDefinition Width="1*"></ColumnDefinition> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ContentControl Grid.Column="0" Content="{Binding PrimaryWinding}" ContentTemplate="{StaticResource PrimTrafo}"/> </Grid> This code works. Only I can't resize the drawings to the size of the grid cell. I added the ScaleTransform class to resize the image. Is a Frame the wrong class to hold the drawings? Should I use the ScaleTransform class to resize the drawing to the size of the cell? And how can I do that dynamically?

  • Silverlight 3 ArcSegment to always draw circle's

    - by kapaboo
Hi everyone, Ok, my arcSegment must always draw Circle's. For this reason I calculate the Arc's Width with the following formula: arcXRadius = (4 * Math.Pow(height, 2) + Math.Pow(distanceArcPoints, 2)) / (8 * height); so Arcs.Size = (arcXRadius, height) But seems that the height is scaled down when drawn. I want to add a small Circle to the Arc's middle (highest point) so when you drag it it changes the arc Height but also changes the Width so it will remain a circle. Here's how I calculate the Circle's (highest) point: Point middlePoint = GetMiddlePoint(arcPointA,arcPointB); double arcYRadius = arcSegment.Size.Height; if (arcYRadius <= 0) return middlePoint; double angle = arcSegment.RotationAngle; Point ellinewPoint = new Point(); ellinewPoint.X = Math.Cos((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.X; ellinewPoint.Y = Math.Sin((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.Y; Until Arc's.Size.Height Property gets Closer to the Width my Circle is not at the right Point. So maybe someone can give me a hint or tell me what am I doing wrong. Cheers, kapaboo

  • Rogue PropertyChanged notifications from ViewModel

    - by user1886323
    The following simple program is causing me a Databinding headache. I'm new to this which is why I suspect it has a simple answer. Basically, I have two text boxes bound to the same property myString. I have not set up the ViewModel (simply a class with one property, myString) to provide any notifications to the View for when myString is changed, so even although both text boxes operate a two way binding there should be no way that the text boxes update when myString is changed, am I right? Except... In most circumstances this is true - I use the 'change value' button at the bottom of the window to change the value of myString to whatever the user types into the adjacent text box, and the two text boxes at the top, even although they are bound to myString, do not change. Fine. However, if I edit the text in TextBox1, thus changing the value of myString (although only when the text box loses focus due to the default UpdateSourceTrigger property, see reference), TextBox2 should NOT update as it shouldn't receive any updates that myString has changed. However, as soon as TextBox1 loses focus (say click inside TextBox2) TextBox2 is updated with the new value of myString. My best guess so far is that because the TextBoxes are bound to the same property, something to do with TextBox1 updating myString gives TextBox2 a notification that it has changed. Very confusing as I haven't used INotifyPropertyChanged or anything like that. To clarify, I am not asking how to fix this. I know I could just change the binding mode to a oneway option. I am wondering if anyone can come up with an explanation for this strange behaviour? ViewModel: namespace WpfApplication1 { class ViewModel { public ViewModel() { _myString = "initial message"; } private string _myString; public string myString { get { return _myString; } set { if (_myString != value) { _myString = value; } } } } } View: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.DataContext> <local:ViewModel /> </Window.DataContext> <Grid> <!-- The culprit text boxes --> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="166,70,0,0" Name="textBox1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" Text="{Binding Path=myString, Mode=TwoWay}" /> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="166,120,0,0" Name="textBox2" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" Text="{Binding Path=myString, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <!--The buttons allowing manual change of myString--> <Button Name="changevaluebutton" Content="change value" Click="ButtonUpdateArtist_Click" Margin="12,245,416,43" Width="75" /> <Button Content="Show value" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="12,216,0,0" Name="showvaluebutton" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" Click="showvaluebutton_Click" /> <Label Content="" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="116,216,0,0" Name="showvaluebox" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="128" /> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="116,245,0,0" Name="changevaluebox" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="128" /> <!--simply some text--> <Label Content="TexBox1" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="99,70,0,0" Name="label1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="61" /> <Label Content="TexBox2" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="99,118,0,0" Name="label2" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="61" /> </Grid> </Window> Code behind for view: namespace WpfApplication1 { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for MainWindow.xaml /// </summary> public partial class MainWindow : Window { ViewModel viewModel; public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); viewModel = (ViewModel)this.DataContext; } private void showvaluebutton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { showvaluebox.Content = viewModel.myString; } private void ButtonUpdateArtist_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { viewModel.myString = changevaluebox.Text; } } }

  • Accessing XAML Object Variables in XAML

    - by Asryael
So, what I'm trying to do is access my Form's width and/or height to use in a storyboard. Essentially, I have a Translate Transform animation to slide what are essentially two pages. The animation works fine with hard coded From/To variables, however I need to use soft variables that enable the animation to start from the left/right of my form no matter what size it is. <Storyboard x:Key="SlideLeftToRight" TargetProperty="RenderTransform.(TranslateTransform.X)" AccelerationRatio=".4" DecelerationRatio=".4"> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="PageViewer" Duration="0:0:0.6" From="WindowWidth" To="0"/> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="BorderVisual" Duration="0:0:0.6" From="0" To="NegativeWindowWidth"/> </Storyboard> However, I have no idea how to do so. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I'm guessing it has something to do with: From="{Binding Width, Source=MainWindow}" However, when I attempt this, I don't know how to make it negative.

    Hi, I have a storyboard as a resource in a rectangle with a simple doubleAnimation. <Storyboard x:Name="EffectStoryboard"> <DoubleAnimation From="0" To="500" Storyboard.TargetName="WaveEffect" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Val0" RepeatBehavior="Forever" Duration="01:00:00" /> </Storyboard> I start the storyboard in the loaded event of the rectangle: private void Rectangle_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Rectangle rectangle = sender as Rectangle; if (rectangle != null) { Storyboard storyboard = rectangle.Resources["EffectStoryboard"] as Storyboard; //DoubleAnimation doubleAnimation = storyboard.Children[0] as DoubleAnimation; //if (doubleAnimation != null) //{ // doubleAnimation.BeginTime = new TimeSpan(0, random.Next(0, 60), random.Next(0, 60)); //} storyboard.Begin(); } } The problem is that when I uncomment the commented code, the animation won't start anymore. Even when I use non-random values in the timespan. Why?

  • Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon'

    - by user354433
I'm having trouble using the Ribbon control from the Office 2007 RibbonControlsLibrary.dll. It works for most people but not for me. The fault I get is: Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon' defined in assembly 'RibbonControlsLibrary, Version=3.5.31016.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation The problem is probably not with the code since it works for other people. Its the Ribbon class thats causing the problem. If I remove any references to the Ribbon class but keep the references to RibbonWindow I don't get any exceptions. Any help appreciated
