  • How to combine wildcards and spaces (quotes) in an Windows command?

    I want to remove directories of the following format: C:\Program Files\FogBugz\Plugins\cache\[email protected]_NN NN is a number, so I want to use a wildcard (this is part of a post-build step in Visual Studio). The problem is that I need to combine quotes around the path name (for the space in Program Files) with a wildcard to match the end of the path. I already found out that rd is the remove command that accepts wildcards, but where do I put the quotes? I have tried no ending quote (works for dir), ...example.com*", ...example.com"*, ...example.com_??", ...cache\"[email protected]*, ...cache"\[email protected]*, but none of them work. (How many commands to remove a file/directory are there in Windows anyway? And why do they all differ in capabilities?)

  • Reason for perpetual dynamic DNS updates?

    I'm using dynamic DNS (the "adult" version from RFC 2136, not à la DynDNS), and for a while now I've been seeing my laptops with MacOS 10.6.x churning out updates about every 10 seconds. And seemingly redundant updates at that, as the IP is more or less stable (consumer broadband). I don't remember seeing that frequency in the (distant...) past. The lowest time-to-live that MacOS pushes on the entries is 2 minutes, so I have no clue what's going on. ...     I am running Samba on a CentOS server, and I am experiencing a problem where it allows me to connect to the server and see a share, but shows the share as an empty directory. I find this behavior strange. Here is the stanza in my smb.conf for the given share: [seanm] path = /home/seanm writeable = yes valid users = seanm, root read only = No Here's what I see on the server side: [seanm@server ~]$ ls -l -rw-r--r-- 1 seanm seanm 40 Jan 4 13:45 pangram.txt And yet: [seanm@client ~]$ smbclient //server/seanm -U seanm -W WORKGROUP Enter seanm's password: Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.33-3.29.el5_5.1] smb: \> ls . D 0 Fri Jan 7 10:08:55 2011 .. D 0 Fri Jan 7 07:58:31 2011 58994 blocks of size 262144. 50356 blocks available This behavior is present on both a Windows client and a Linux client system. The behavior is present with the firewall on and with the firewall off, so it's not that. Neither /var/log/messages nor /var/log/secure have any complaints about Samba. I doubt that SELinux is a problem: just in case, here are the relevant settings. Edit: SELinux probably is the problem, judging by the fact that the issue goes away when I set SELinux to "permissive" or issue setsebool -P samba_export_all_rw on - both of which are unacceptable for production environments. What the heck kind of context does a directory need to have on it for Samba users to actually get files from it? I consider rolling your own rules and/or context to be deeply sub-optimal.

  • 403 Forbidden error on Mac OSX - Apache and nginx

    Hi All, There are a million questions like this on Google, but I haven't found a solution to my problem. The default Apache install on my Mac is giving 403 Forbidden errors for everything (default directory, user home directory, virtual server, etc). After sifting through the config files, I figured I'd give nginx a try. Nginx serves files fine from it's home directory, but it won't serve files from a subfolder of my user directory. I've configured a simple virtual host, and requesting index.html returns a 403-forbidden. The error message in nginx's log file is pretty clear - it can't read the file: 2011/01/04 16:13:54 [error] 96440#0: *11 open() "/Users/me/Documents/workspace/mobile/index.html" failed (13: Permission denied), client: 127.0.0.1, server: local.test.com, request: "GET /index.html HTTP/1.1", host: "local.test.com" I've opened up this directory to everyone: drwxrwxrwx 6 me admin 204B Dec 31 20:49 mobile And all the files in it: $ ls -lah mobile/ total 24 drwxrwxrwx 6 me admin 204B Dec 31 20:49 . drwxr-xr-x 71 me me 2.4K Dec 31 20:41 .. -rw-r--r--@ 1 me me 6.0K Jan 2 18:58 .DS_Store -rwxrwxrwx 1 me admin 2.1K Jan 4 14:22 index.html drwxrwxrwx 5 me admin 170B Dec 31 20:45 nbproject drwxrwxrwx 5 me admin 170B Jan 2 18:58 script And yet, I cannot figure out why the nginx process cannot read index.html.     How do you allow a specific user permission to write to an NFS partition? I've mounted an NFS share on my localhost (a Fedora install), and I can read and write as root, but I'm unable to write as the apache user, even though all the files and directories in the share on my localhost and remote host are owned by apache. For example, I've mounted it via this line in my /etc/fstab: remotehost:/data/media /data/media nfs _netdev,soft,intr,rw,bg 0 0 And both locations are owned by apache: [root@remotehost ~]# ls -la /data total 24 drwxr-xr-x. 6 root root 4096 Jan 6 2011 . dr-xr-xr-x. 28 root root 4096 Oct 31 2011 .. drwxr-xr-x 4 apache apache 4096 Jan 14 2011 media [root@localhost ~]# ls -la /data total 16 drwxr-xr-x 4 apache apache 4096 Dec 7 2011 . dr-xr-xr-x. 27 root root 4096 Jun 11 15:51 .. drwxrwxrwx 5 apache apache 4096 Jan 31 2011 media However, when I try and write as the apache user, I get a "Permission denied" error.   • In WPF: Children.Remove or Children.Clear doesn't free objects

    I create some UIElements from code behind and was anticipating the garbage collection to clear up stuff. However, the objects are not free-ed at the time I expected it. I was expecting them to be freeed at RemoveAt(0), but they are only freed at the end of the program.   • Getting an ASP.MVC2/VS2010 application to work in IIS 7.5

    I've recently downloaded beta 2 of VS2010 and started playing with ASP.NET MVC2. Initial development was done with Casini, but now I wanted to run the application from IIS 7.5 (I'm running Windows 7). I've installed the IIS6 metabase compatiblity and I run VS2010 as administrator so I can use the "Create Virtual Directory" button from the "Web" tab of the project settings. This created the web application entry in IIS, but it doesn't work. When I go to the main page (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/) I get a HTTP 403 error. When I go directly to one of the sub-pages (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/Home/) I get an HTTP 404. So I guess for some reason the URL routing isn't working. I've already added UrlRouting as a module and a handler to the web.config. In my searches this is offered as a solution for some similair problems. But for me this still doesn't work.   • Development Environment in a VM against an isolated development/test network

    I currently work in an organization that forces all software development to be done inside a VM. This is for a variety of risk/governance/security/compliance reasons. The standard setup is something like: VMWare image given to devs with tools installed VM is customized to suit project/stream needs VM sits in a network & domain that is isolated from the live/production network SCM connectivity is only possible through dev/test network Email and office tools need to be on live network so this means having two separate desktops going at once Heavyweight dev tools in use on VMs so they are very resource hungry Some problems that people complain about are: Development environment runs slower than normal (host OS is windows XP so memory is limited) Switching between DEV machine and Email/Office machine is a pain, simple things like cut and paste are made harder. This is less efficient from a usability perspective. Mouse in particular doesn't seem to work properly using VMWare player or RDP. Need a separate login to Dev/Test network/domain Has anyone seen or worked in other (hopefully better) setups to this that have similar constraints (as mentioned at the top)? In particular are there viable options that would remove the need for running stuff in a VM altogether?

  • nVelocity - Template issue when attempting 'greater than' comparison on decimal property

    I have a simple object that has as one of it's properties a decimal named Amount. When I attempt a comparison on this property as part of an nVelocity template, the comparison always fails. If I change the property to be of type int the comparison works fine. Is there anything extra I need to add to the template for the comparison to work?   • Flash Builder missing fundamental things

    All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike.     If you go to http://moederdagontbijtplacemat.nl/ you will see a progress bar. The application is loading a fairly large SWF from the server using the Loader class. Strangely enough, the progress bar immediately goes to 100% (but the loading still takes a while after that). The code is below, but you'll see it's basically too simple to break. It has worked when the application was on a different server, so I though maybe the new server wasn't sending the size of the large SWF in the http headers. Firebug does show a progress bar though, so that is not the case, the information should be available.   • .NET 4 RTM MetadataType attribute ignored when using Validator

    I am using VS 2010 RTM and trying to perform some basic validation on a simple type using MetadataTypeAttribute. When I put the validation attribute on the main class, everything works. However, when I put it on the metadata class, it seems to be ignored. I must be missing something trivial, but I've been stuck on this for a while now. I had a look at the Enterprise Library validation block as a workaround, but it doesn't support validation of single properties out of the box.     Is it possible to load an external HTML file into a variable and then use this variable to load the SimpleModal dialog?     I created a quick game in VS Express (2008) and used the built-in deployment tool (click once?) to create an installer. I took it to another computer, ran it (Windows XP) to install from a burned CD. It created the program but only for the logged in user. Is there a setting I'm missing for installing it to all users on an XP system? Or is this a limitation of the Express edition's installer?

    I'm using a game physics library (Box2D) which only supports convex polygon shapes. However, I'd like the level builder to be able to just specify concave polygons without having to worry about that. So, how can I automatically break apart a concave polygon into convex ones (or even all triangles). Speed would be cool, but ease of implementation is more important. The breaking apart will only be done on game initialization. (My language is Flash/ActionScript 3, but that shouldn't matter)

Flexible Deployment Targets Support for all the most common Java EE application servers At the moment we are getting grief from infrastructure as we are giving them WARs built in ant. They are used to taking EAR files built straight out of RAD or RSA. Does SS Tool Suite have the capability to build compliant EARs for Websphere 6.1?

What am i doing wrong?
