  • ISP issue browsing "sonos.com" - need to diagnose and prove [closed]

    I am unable to browse to a website "sonos.com" with my ISP (virgin). I have ruled out browsers, PCs, macs, routers, wifi, etc. Other ISPs (even other virgin connections in different areas!) supply this site no problem. I am 99% convinced there is a DNS issue lurking here. There is something fishy about the DNS for the site : What I notice is that online DNS sites tell me the right IP address for "sonos.com", but not for "www.sonos.com". Anyway when I type "sonos.com" the browser (any/all of the 4 I tried) fail to display the page. Firefox gives a "connection was reset" error. If I browse to sonos.com using the IP address it works OK. Browsing to www.sonos.com or sonos.com works fine with other ISPs of course. Questions: 1 Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? 2 Any suggestions as to tools/monitors to help investigate/prove what is going on I can then take this up with virgin and/or sonos.   • What's the Matlab equivalent of NULL, when it's calling COM/ActiveX methods?

    Hi, I maintain a program which can be automated via COM. Generally customers use VBS to do their scripting, but we have a couple of customers who use Matlab's ActiveX support and are having trouble calling COM object methods with a NULL parameter. They've asked how they do this in Matlab - and I've been scouring Mathworks' COM/ActiveX documentation for a day or so now and can't figure it out. Their example code might look something like this: function do_something() OurAppInstance = actxserver('Foo.Application'); OurAppInstance.Method('Hello', NULL) end where NULL is where in another language, we'd write NULL or nil or Nothing, or, of course, pass in an object. The problem is this is optional (and these are implemented as optional parameters in most, but not all, cases) - these methods expect to get NULL quite often. They tell me they've tried [] (which from my reading seemed the most likely) as well as '', Nothing, 'Nothing', None, Null, and 0. I have no idea how many of those are even valid Matlab keywords - certainly none work in this case. Can anyone help? What's Matlab's syntax for a null pointer / object for use as a COM method parameter? Update: Thanks for all the replies so far! Unfortunately, none of the answers seem to work, not even libpointer. The error is the same in all cases: Error: Type mismatch, argument 2 This parameter in the COM type library is described in RIDL as: HRESULT _stdcall OurMethod([in] BSTR strParamOne, [in, optional] OurCoClass* oParamTwo, [out, retval] VARIANT_BOOL* bResult); The coclass in question implements a single interface descending from IDispatch.

    I would like to set up a server similar to Google's. Their domain acts like a double domain, like you can use these URLS, "play.Google.com" or "apps.Google.com", to go to different sites.. For example, my domain would now be "my_domain.com" but i would like another one to be "domain2.my_domain.com". My question is,what is this officially called and how do i set it up? I'm not sure if you need two servers or just 1;

  • Using both .co.uk and .com domain

    We presently have a .co.uk domain that has been live now for around 9-10 months, recently the .com version of this domain has become available and we've purchased based on reading that suggests you should try and go for .com where possible. My issue now is, what should I do with the .com? Should I use this in favour of the .co.uk or use both? I'm concerned that rankings might be affected if I completely replace the .co.uk with the .com. Any suggestions?

  • SSL/https setup for herokuapp.com address rather than my actual domain

    I have a subdomain of my site pointed to a rails app at mysite.herokuapp.com. I bought a certificate from godaddy and seem to have that all set up correctly. So that when I go to: http://mysite.herokuapp.com or http://dev.mysite.com it's redirected to: https://mysite.herokuapp.com or https://dev.mysite.com The problem is that when I visit dev.mysite.com, I get the error: Safari can't verify the identity of the website. But when I go to mysite.herokuapp.com, I don't get the error. I wanted this to be set up the other way, so that dev.mysite.com did not cause the error. I'm not sure where I went wrong. I used dev.mysite.com when generating the key and when setting it up at godaddy.com. Any ideas where I should look? P.S. The old site is hosted at dreamhost and the DNS info is stored there as well. So I created a subdomain there of type cname which points to mysite.herokuapp.com.

However, if I put www.domain2.com, everything works fine. I don't see any difference between two VirtualHost config block, so I wonder what does make the difference. Will it also release the IRecordInfo interface? Or i have to manually get the encapsulated struct and deallocate each member myself and then use CoTaskMemFree to deallocate sturct. However, I have been repeatedly told not to do this due to likely problems with SEO - the business is very SEO dependent, and being a rental chain, needs to be strong in local results. So the question is: Is there an unavoidable hit in Search Engine Optimization when redirecting to a central .com domain? What measures can be taken to soften the blow? What comes to my mind is explicitly specifying a lang attribute in the html tag. Are there any other ways to specifically point out geographical location for sub-directories?

  • Calling Excel from PHP 5 through COM fails on Windows 7 when Apache started through Task Planner

    I currently write an application, which controls Excel through COM: The app creates a COM-based Excel instance, opens some XLS files and reads their contents. Scenario I On Windows 7, I start Apache and mySQL using xmapp-control with system administrator rights. All works as expected. The PHP-based controller script interacts with Excel as expected. Scenario II A problem appears, if I start Apache and mySQL as 'background jobs'. Here is how: I created two jobs using Windows 7 Task Planner. One runs apache_start.bat, the other runs mysql_start.bat. Both tasks run as SYSTEM with elevated privileges when Windows 7 boots. Apache and mySQL work as expected. Specifically, Apache serves HTTP request from clients and PHP is able to talk to mySQL. When I call the PHP controller, which calls and interacts with Excel using COM, I do receive an error. The error seems to come from Excel [not COM itself] and reads like this: Excel can't read the XLS-file Excel failed to save the file due to an ill-name worksheet Interestingly, during the first run of the PHP-based controller script, it takes a few seconds to render the error message. Each subsequent run immediately renders the error message. Windows system logs didn't show a single problem report entry. Note, that the PHP program and the Apache instance didn't change - except the way Apache was started. At least the PHP controller script is perfectly able to read the file-system, since it provides the pathes to the XLS-file through scandir() of a certain directory. Concurrency issues can't be the cause of the problem. A single instance of the specific PHP controller interacts with Excel. Question Could someone provide details, why this happens?

  • Keeping up with Technology

    If you're like me, you have a hard time keeping up with all the technologies out there. The reality is there's too many new technologies (languages, methodologies,  tools, etc). One of the ways I try to keep up with everything is by using good ol' RSS feeds in conjunction with Google Reader. Google Reader is both an online aggregator of RSS feeds, and it also has a good companion app on Google Android. The nicest part of Google Reader for me is the "All Listings" view which gives me a reverse chronological view of ALL articles (mixed together) regardless of the actual RSS feed.  This way, I get to see the newest articles first. I can then choose to hide the articles I've viewed, etc. Here is a list of my RSS feeds. Admittedly, some of these are all over the spectrum. But you might find one or two interesting. .NET Rocks!   • Why don't Direct2D and DirectWrite use traditional COM objects?

    I'm toying with a little 2D game engine in C# and decided to use Direct2D and DirectWrite for rendering. I know there's the Windows API Code Pack and SlimDX, but I'd really like to dig in and write an interface from scratch. I'm trying to do it without Managed C++, but Direct2D and DirectWrite don't appear to use traditional COM objects. They define interfaces that derive from IUnknown, but there appears to be no way to actually use them from C# with COM interop. There are IIDs in d2d1.h, but no CLSID. Of course, I'm really new to COM interop, so perhaps I'm just missing something. Can someone shed some light on this situation?

  • Emails sent to outlook.com not being delivered

    I'm having an issue that is a little strange. I have a cPanel webserver that I own and have root. I was testing out emailing and noticed some issues. When I send an email to outlook.com address the email sends ok but nothing is recieved at the outlook mailbox.     New to Ubuntu. In the other sofware sources i have "Debian 4.0 eth" officially supported "non-us.debian.org/"; etc ... "ppa.launcpad.net" and installing applications has stopped working.   • Nginx rewrites incorrectly

    For some reason www.server-1.com/forum doesn't redirect to forum.server-1.com but www.server-2.com.
