  • Email alerts when hard drive fails on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (PERC5I, SAS)?

    I recently purchased a used Dell PowerEdge 2950. I setup the hard drives in RAID-5 configuration. I want to be able to get an email alert if one of the drives fails. I have been trying to determine what the easiest way to setup an email alert would be. The controller card is listed as PERC5I, SAS PowerEdge. From my numerous Google searches, it looks like I need to install Dell OpenManage Essentials. However ,this looks to be a giant application with tons of bells & whistles for managing many servers, when all I really want is something for this one server. Can anyone offer me any insight into what I could do?

  • Is it possible to install Windows Server 2012 on a Dell PowerEdge with PERC S100 card?

    According to Dell's own website, the Windows Server 2012 media driver "inbox" does not contain drivers for the Perc S100 controller that is in a Dell PowerEdge T110 II server we'd like to evaluate with Server 2012. I have found drivers only for Server 2008 R2, which is what the server is currently running. Is it possible to upgrade this server? (Booting up the Server 2012 DVD image leads to the expected result that it can not locate the system's hard drives or its hard drive controller card, as the drivers for the PERC S100 are not on the installation DVD image.)

    I Purchased the Dell Vostro 1520 a few months ago and recently tried using a PCMCIA adapter for the Compact Flash card my camera uses. I can't get the laptop to find the card. Tried going online to see if a CF card should work, but have not found a clear or definate answer. I do not want to deal with Dell on the phone as even 800 #'s cost me more than it's worth to use. Hoping someone can let me know if I'm wasting my time trying to get the laptop to read my CF card. It's the only type card I have to try the input slot, so can't test to see if the input slot even works. Thanks, -- ‹(•¿•)› Jim

    Hi I'm a little confused to say the least when it comes to video formats and protocols. I'd like to view my laptop output on my HD TV. The TV has HDMI, S-Video, and RCA inputs. My laptop has a VGA female port on the side for driving a 2nd monitor, and an S-VHS output at the back. No, it has no DVI, which I've heard is a poor decision from DELL, and even poorer decision on my part to buy it. Can I get true HD output from this to my TV? What cable do I need, or would I need a converter? Any other suggestions are also welcome, such as how to get something close to HD on my TV. Thanks! Bernhard

  • How to find out if the screen is WLED or RGBLED on Dell Studio XPS 16?

    I just ordered the Dell Studio XPS 16 with i7 and 16" RGBLED screen. This upgrade from WLED LCD to RGBLED LCD charged me more $$. But now when I view the order online, it lists this part as "320-8335 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam". When called Dell, the rep says this part is RGBLED screen and the "premium" is for RGBLED. I want to make sure they are shipping me the RGBLED screen and not the WLED. Is there any way to verify this after I receive (either from Device Manager or BIOS or somewhere in system settings)? Also, is there any published specifications / criteria that we can run (some third party software) on this monitor which can tell if this is WLED or RGBLED?

  • Bluetooth drivers for Dell Latitude D830

    I haven’t been using Bluetooth on my D830 before but now I got myself a Bluetooth mouse in order to get rid of the receiver for a wireless mouse. And then I discovered that Bluetooth did not work anymore after I installed Win7. Browsing Dell support pages for a a driver found me one (browsing by computer model etc..). But that drivers does not work. Installation looks ok and everything but no devices are found. i kept looking and found this driver, also at Dells site: http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R231570&formatcnt=1&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=333170 And that one worked!  Problem solved an I am now happily using my Bluetooth mouse instead.

    I just reinstalled a fresh 12.04 because I couldn't even get booted on my previous installation anymore. I just installed 8GB of ram on this laptop, but the problem happened even before this, and all I have installed in this run on Ubuntu is: ia32libs, Oracle JDK7 and the 32bit JRE junipernc jupiter The laptop has never been used very heavily, so could someone get back to me on this, let me know what further information you need about my machine, or files to upload.     I have installed 12.04 on a dell vostro 2420 (previously 11.10) and wifi is gone now but wired network remains. I've reviewed the other questions and tried some stuff but no luck yet. The following is the process so far so hopefully someone can help: After installing 12.04 using the additional drivers utility did not bring up any proprietary drivers and using synaptic on installation then reinstallation of bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter does not help bring up any drivers either (tried rebooting after as well) I have made sure in the bios that the wlan is turned on, and it appears the laptop does not have a wireless hardware switch, only the keyboard function shortcut which turns bluetooth on and off on the taskbar but there is no lightup of the wireless function on the laptop itself. Dell does not appear to have any drivers for ubuntu and google does not appear to be much help :( Thanks in advance!

    I bought a Dell XPS13 with ubuntu 12.04 pre-installed. I want to reformat and repartition the machine but as I'm far from being a linux guru, I'm afraid to erase something important that could have been preinstalled by Dell. On the disk, there are 3 partitions: /dev/sda1 - Ext4 Linux bootable 248GB - witch is the system+user partition I guess, /dev/sda2 - Extended (?) of 8GB - What is this partion about? /dev/sda5 - Linux Swap of 8GB - whitch is for RAM and need to be reconduct (why only 1xRAM and not 2?) Do I have to care about /dev/sda2 ? According to you can I reformat to create a partition for /home whitout losing anything important (except user data of course) ? Thank you for your help

    i have the windows XP media edition running on my Dell Inspiron E1405 with all the hardware working properly. Recently i wipe out the windows and installed the Ubuntu 12.04 LTE using the CD and the installation process completed successfully but my wireless stopped working after. computer wireless indicator turned off and i can't even do the wired connection as well. it is Broadcom BCM4311 adapter. i tried to download the driver from the dell website but they don't have the Linux version of the driver if its that causing the problem. i appreciate your help that can solve my issue. thank you.

  • Still no wireless after b43 with Dell Inspiron 1525 (Ubuntu 12.04)

    So I followed the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1974006 about how to solve this issue. It worked for a bit and then stopped. After doing a modprobe I could at least see my network and click on it but it would not connect (I can always see it if I look under the listed wireless networks under VPN Connections, however). I'm thinking, from what I read at least, the issue might be that my wireless switch was on during those first steps. Do I now have to undo the b43 install and do it again? Or is there something else I could try? I just made the switch to Linux yesterday, so I am hesitant at this point to mess with anything on my own. I should note now that it was installed by someone who knows what they are doing, so we are all good on that front.

    I updated from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 a couple of days back. My machine is a Dell Inspiron 15R with a Radeon HD 7670M Graphic Driver. When I was using 12.04, I was able to install the propriety driver using the notification you usually get. But after the upgrade, the graphic driver is not getting installed. I am not getting the notification to install the driver And I also tried to follow the steps given - What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? I tried the legacy as well as the usual installation procedure Both ways I failed and my graphics went to the fallback, disabling Unity Note: My laptop is getting heated to 80 degrees and can shut down at any point.   • how to diagnose a hard system seizure? Dell+Ubuntu

    I've got Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Vostro 420 desktop, a little over a year old, which I use for plain vanilla work stuff (email, web, terminal, text editor). Every now and then, at totally random times, it completely freezes on me. Hard. Mouse and keyboard stop working, cursor stops blinking, clock stops moving. All I can do is hold down the power button on the front of the box to shut it off. Sometimes it happens after several months of continuous uptime; sometimes it happens a few minutes after a reboot, while all I've done is open a terminal to look at log files, or maybe firefox to do a google search. Each time, there is nothing at all in /var/log/messages at the time of the crash. This makes it seem like a hardware problem, and indeed a few months ago I opened the box and wiggled everything and the problem went away for a while. But now it's back. I went in and checked everything, took out each RAM card and reseated. No luck. I ran all the system diagnostics (the long version) and everything passed with flying colors. Something is messed up in this box, but without any useful logs or failed tests, how in the world am I going to find it? And of course, Dell's not gonna help me cause I went and replaced Windows with Ubuntu. What steps would you take next to track down this problem?
