  • Why does remote desktop connection flash from one PC but not others?

    I have 20 PCs (Windows XP) in remote locations connecting to the same server (Windows Server 2003) using Remote Desktop over a VPN. On just one of the PCs the remote desktop screen flashes (redraws) multiple times after connecting, the others don't. The screen resolution is the same: local is 800x600 32bit; RDP file is set to full screen, 256 color; remote when connected is 800x600 8bit color. Any suggestions what the problem might be, or what to investigate next?

    I'm installing a new server after this weekend, and it musth have both windows server 2008 r2 and linux (probably ubuntu) running, but I'm wondering which one of them I should run virtual. Windows will be used mostly for rdp and for serving asp.net webpages, linux will host some django-applications and a postgreSQL server etc.

    When using the standard Windows remote desktop client in Full Screen to connect to a large remote desktop, the result is usually that the remote desktop is resized to a smaller size matching the local display. Are there any RDP clients that in Full Screen instead leave the remote desktop at its original size and pan this larger area when the mouse reaches the border edges of the local display? Thanks Mike

When the stop event occured I was logged in via RDP but I don't remember and clicks in IIS Manager...:( there are no error messages in event viewer

    I'm interested in being able to control one of my computers remotely, without having to download and install a bunch of software on every machine I want to access my computer from. Is there a VNC client or RDP software that can be embedded in a web page? I realize this seems like it might be a web application based question, but the web application portion would only end up being one small portion of the whole solution. Would VNC really be the way to go for this?

I need to know this because our ISP enforces a cap on monthly bandwidth usage (i.e. the total amount data in GB that can sent or received in a month). So just wondering like how much KBs or MBs are transferred per hour in an average RDP session.

    Hello, I have a VM with a .vhd file however, when I connet to the VM (by RDP) and make some changes (create a directory and add a small file with notepad) the .VHD file stays unchanged. The 'Date modified' of the .VHD stays at the starttime of the VM. 1/How can we force an update of het VM while the VM is running? 2/Where aree the temporary changes kept?   • Strange permission errors with Windows Server 2008

    I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts. I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network. I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group. That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there. But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues. For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF??? I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems? I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems. Anyone has any ideas? UPDATE: This is the info from the event log when I try to access via RDP: An account failed to log on.     At work and home, I use Server 2003 with Windows Shares. We also have a couple of Netgear ReadyNAS appliances at work, managed via the web interface. Is there a built-in Web Interface for managing Shares, or a free one available - for use in Server 2003 (or 2008)? The reason I ask is that it would be good to manage the Shares via the Web, rather then RDP onto the Server each time - and would allow other users to treat it as a NAS.

  • Two wireless NICs on a MacBook - can I bind all VPN traffic to one, and everything else to another?

    I frequently connect to my workplace over a VPN. I would like to continue watching videos from, say YouTube, whilst I work on the VPN, without degrading the available VPN bandwidth (say for an RDP session). Can I configure a second NIC to deal with only the VPN traffic, with everything else going over the primary? Specs as requested: Macbook Pro, OSX Snow Leopard, using the built in OSX VPN connectivity, the in-built airport card and a USB external wifi adapter.

  • Stop Windows 2003 queued error messages

    Hello, Each time I reboot a Windows 2003 server, after Windows has restared I get message dialogs for all the application crashes that happened since the last reboot. So after each reboot I have to click "Don't send" countless times, for crashes that happened weeks before. How can the display of these error messages be stopped?     ...when logged into a Server via remote Desktop? I see no way to Access Windows security. In "old" 2008 R2 there was a "Windows Security" entry in the start menu when coming via rdp. In the new Metro Start Menu, the username context menu allows me to lock the Computer or log out - but not Change the Password. Yes, I can go through user Management, but this is not something I want People to do ;)

I want to remotely enable the firewall on Server 2008 without locking myself out of the server (access via RDP) and then selectively add IP addresses to the firewall to exclude. i.e. block specific IP addresses. Are there any step by step instructions on how to safely do this?

    Hi everyone, I am running a Windows Server 2003 OS and am noticing that no one is able to connect to the machine through Remote Desktop. I have gone through the Terminal Services Configuration to make sure that we had the RDP-Tcp connection enabled and I've checked to see that the server was listening to port 3389.     A friend has a site developed in ColdFusion with MySQL and is looking for better cost-effective hosting as the traffic scales up rapidly. Azure comes to mind. I haven't used Azure myself, however, I believe it is possible to setup and interact with the web-server via RDP into a hosted Virtual Machine? I am curious if ColdFusion can be installed in the hosted Azure VM. Also, would the site have to be tweaked to run on Azure SQL, or could it continue to use MySQL? Thanks.
